My wife and I have been enjoying the DS I got her for her birthday, and she just got me one for Father's Day so that we can play games together.
So, my question is "what are some good games we can play multi-player without having to buy two copies of the game" (which would totally suck and basically make games cost $40-$70 for us)?

Metroid Prime Pinball and Clubhouse Games spring to mind.

I've read the Bomberman games have excellent single-cart multiplayer...I have yet to purchase a copy myself to try it out, though.

Yes, Bomberman is an awesome single-cart multi game, esp. since it's fully featured. Mario Kart only let's the other player use 1 character, and if I recall, you're limited in the amount of tracks too.
Yoshi Touch N Go is a lot of fun, although it lacks variety. Really simple, addictive game.
New Super Mario Bros and Mario 64 DS both have the same mini-games, but quite a few of them are a lot of fun against other players.
Tetris DS has a lot of new modes, and plus it's Tetris, so it's fun anyway.
That's all that comes to mind ATM.

Definitely Advance Wars, one of the best games for the DS so far. Also Brain Age, Meteos, Metroid Prime Hunters, Mario Hoops.

Don't only two of the games on there have single card play? I remember thinking it sucked that Monopoly didn't have it, which was one of the reasons why I held off on buying it.
Of course, it's like super rare now, so I regret that.

Good suggestions, I'd like to also add Zoo Keeper and Meteos to that list.
