DS Working Properly?

I just got a DS and have a few questions about its functionality:

Is there anyway to restore factory default settings on the machine? I want to try this and see if it remedies any of the following problems...

Is the DS supposed to freeze when it is on the home screen and you remote a cart?

I put games in properly, but every now and then the DS doesn't recognize there is a game in slot 1... is the common?

Is there a software update for the DS like the Wii?

And is WEP really the only way this thing connects to the internet??

Don't know about the other questions, but:

1) This has happened to me occasionally, but a reboot and possible reseating of game remedies it.

2) No. It does not have the ability to have firmware updates.

3) Yes. Or no security, if you count that as a type of security.
