Probably a stupid question, but would the DS wifi connector work directly plugged into a wired router with a female USB-ethernet converter?
I don't know a lot about this type of stuff, so I wanted to ask before I bought one to try it out myself.

The USB adapter is designed to plug into a USB port of a computer connected to a router. It doesn't interface directly with the router at all. It just creates a soft access point that broadcasts to devices that can connect to it (in this case, the DS and Wii). Which means it just makes that wired connection available wirelessly to the DS/Wii. I have seen it work with a machine that is wirelessly connected to a router, but it's suggested that you do it at a machine directly connected to the router.
If the router contains wireless ability to begin with, you don't even need the USB adapter, as you could just have the DS or Wii connect through that. You'd have to keep the security either off or set to WEP for the DS. If you want to use it for the Wii only, you can do WPA. For both you'd have to downgrade to WEP.
I don't know if what you are proposing would work (with the ethernet->USB connection), but I wouldn't suggest doing it.

I don't think it would. At least, the official Nintendo won't; it comes with a software CD that manages the connections and sets up the device.
