With Gamepolitics.com (http://gamepolitics.com/2007/06/19/breaking-manhunt-2-rated-adults-only-by-esrb/) reporting that Take Two Interactive is claiming Manhunt 2 has been rated AO by the ESRB, I felt it was time for a more intelligent discussion of this situation other than "this F****** sucks!" or "Rockstar is a terrorist group." The question is what will happen to the games medium when a HUGE game like this is given what is generally known as the "kiss of death" rating? Will stores change their policies? Will gaming finally become something that isn't "just for the kids" in the public eye? This thread is not to discuss whether or not Manhunt 2 is a bad game it is to discuss the overvall impact on the video games industry.
My opinion:
I think that Manhunt 2 will be the first successful AO game. I think that it will sell many copies online if stores don't allow it to be stocked. Once stores see how much money they are losing in game sales they may reconsider. I strongly believe that the game will show the mainstream public that gaming isn't just for kids anymore but I think that point is not very important in the longterm other than for preventing all of the restrictions we see now.
What do you think the impact will be to the medium if Manhunt 2 is in fact rated AO?
