Well, I had a really rough spring semester and had to leave my job as a lan admin at a local hospital to graduate. I have been looking for the past few months and finally am getting a bunch of offers.

A really well paying position opened up with the city, I came in for an assessment test against a bunch of eccentric IT guys. It was a bunch of essay type, morality questions. They said they were not going to do an interview after that, but called me the next day asking for an interview for the 25th of June.

Monday morning, the University calls and I am offered a short term position through October, they want me to start as soon as possible, I told them my earliest availability would be the 26th. I still have no accepted the job, I have a 2nd interview with them, but the guy told me I'm his first choice and I just have to do the 2nd interview as part of the process.

So do accept the position and just cancel If I get the city job? Should I be more upfront with the the University of my position?

Here are some of the pros and cons.

University
+(Guaranteed a Job)
- Lower pay no benefits but pay is still ok compared to most out of collage jobs
- 8-5, very boring grant/loan approval work
- Job ends in October

City
-(Unknown acceptance) The lady in charge is out on vacation, which is why my interview is next monday.

+Very High Pay
+20 hours a week (good for me as I am studying for the GRE)
+Less work

I once took a risk on a job where someone was out on vacation and they would call me back once that person got back in. I put another job off on the side thinking I would have the better job, and I was wrong. In the end I didn't get either job.

Go with the college until your sure that you have the other job, and then give the college your two week notice. Tell the better job you can't start for about two weeks. Just cause homeboy says your his number once choice doesn't mean you are. He could be telling everyone that.

Off-topic but that GIF of Hulk Hogan and Shawn Michaels kills me. Did he just wing it after he couldn't rip it off or was it planned that way?

Stick with the gov. job. Working for the city, is basically a job you never leave. You get options to retire early depending on how long youve worked and such. I would love to work for the city at some point.
