Ram prices are at an all time low now and I've been wondering... should I get 4GB?
I have no use for 4GB now with XP Pro SP2. I currently have 2x1GB of Ballistix and I've never gone above 1.56GB.
I only want 4GB for Vista which I'll probably be getting when I start U of I this semester. I'm wondering if now is the time to or if they'll continue falling.
I picked up my first kit for $65 AR and now Newegg has a deal for same kit for $70AR going on now.:-k
What do you guys think?

I think memory prices has been very steady for the past month, so it might be a sign that it will not go any lower, but will eventually rise when demand exceeds supply. It has been like this in the past, so I'm not surprised if it'll be the same again. I'm getting 4GB (4x 1GB Crucial Ballistix 800) for my next build right now, even though I won't be building the PC until August.

I upgraded to 4GB. For the $60 or so I spent at Newegg, I can't complain.

buy it when you can use it, prices almost always go down.

If it's anything last last year, prices will go up in August when all the big PC companies buy up ram for the holidays and won't come back down till next year.

I just upgraded to 4GB, in terms of price it's pretty low, however you won't see much performance boost if any in terms of games at this time. It helps me run more background stuff though like BT

Which OS do you have?
I know I won't see a boost now since I only have XP but I heard a lot of people say that 2GB is minimum for decent Vista performance. I was thinking about 3GB total for Vista but figured that I might as well get 4GB since it's so cheap.

1GB is min for vista really, my GF runs vista fine on 1GB.
I'm using vista btw. 4GB is nice but Vista ran just fine at 1-2GB.
Many people have the misconception that vista costs the system tons of memory because of the way it manages it so it looks like it's always utilizing alot when it's really reserving it for programs to ensure they run smoothly since the memory isn't being used anyway. It's actually a performance booster.

Oh, in that case, thanks for saving me $70.

I'm running Vista great on 2gb. If I get a deal (great deal) I'll upgrade to 4, but I don't see the need right now.

For that price, get it. Just picked up 4gb myself. 32bit OS wont recognize more than like 3-3.5gb, so dont freak out when you put it in and it doesn say you have 4gb.

I've also been considering a move up to 4gb when I buy Vista Ultimate next month ... the price I paid for my 2gb of Corsair memory is fairly cheap now, so I can buy another 2gb set and Vista for about $350.

Do it you can never have to much ram.

DDR2 prices are falling just because DDR3 is on the horizon. Once DDR3 RAM is more well-known, about 4 months or so, DDR2 prices will rise again. That happened with DDR RAM. Prices shot down, and now they're more expensive than DDR2.
I'd say, unless you're planning on a new mobo anytime soon, get the RAM.

Speaking of running Vista on 2GB just fine, you should read this about Vista. Some guy put two and two together, and drew a conclusion. Not sure how accurate it is, but, meh.
