The only good shoto is Ken. You'll be playing against the same douche because there's only a handful of characters that are worth playing competitively with.

also, UMK3 was a good tournament. lotta decent players, even in the finals (although i swept the finals, the guy was still solid). fortunately for me, busta uppa wasnt in the tournament. i'd like to play him in a tournament setting however - although i think he'd win.
i think a cool thing to do would be have a fighter thread only UMK3 tournament. at least then we know that everyone would be reliable. if enough people are interested, i'll set it up. anyone who wanted to could throw in a small prize and rolento could whip up some artwork of whatever person wins as their favorite UMK character.
i think we could get 8 people together - so who is all interested?Count me in for that one!!!! Glad I saw this post... things have been heating up at work lately, and since I do 98% of my CAG posting at work it's been seriously cutting into my thread participation. But yeah I am all aboard for that tourney. I actually acquired my 360 during the last UMK3 tourney, which was why I wasn't able to take part in it. Thanks for the vote of confidence Jim! :D
also, here's some stuff... it was edited on an amiga!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PnAimfchqTwDidn't get to check the vid yet but I just wanted to show some love for the AMIGA. T'was my first love in gaming, that Commodore Amiga. You know how it is in some families... my parents wanted something "educational" so the Amiga was the sole gaming device in my house throughout my early years. Great times on that machine! The graphics, and especially the sound absolutely crushed the other platforms of the day. In recent years, I've noticed how much improved some games were on the Amiga over their original arcade counterparts.
There was actually a version of Street Fighter II released on Amiga, but I think it only came out in the UK. Definitely NOT an example of an arcade game that was improved on the Amiga, and I can only imagine how painful the 1-button control scheme must have been... but I'd love to have seen that one in action. Street Fighter with an Amiga-style sound scheme would make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

there's only three "characters" in starcraft.
i've also played people who destroy me with low-tier, and i'm pretty decent. until you reach top level, much of the game is knowing the system rather than tier whoring.

On-line duels: Virtua Fighter 5 supports Xbox live one
06.07.07 - Sega communicates that the flogging play Virtua Fighter will support 5 on-line duels via Xbox live one. The play mechanics are based besides on the newest update of the play hall version.

The DOJO mode new functions were added, among them rank lists, training move attitudes, improved throw and alternate training as well as an option, in order to adapt the position and the recovery factor of the opponent. The DOJO mode, in which the players can optimize their combat tactics, is thus more extensive than before.

That Sirlin fellow seems dedicated to making the online experience as smooth as possible, and he seems to be a real respectable pillar of the SF2 community. Also, he openly acknowledges the flaws of the HF netplay, so we know he's approaching things from the right perspective.

Are all your tourney's gonna suck like the SF 3rd Strike one? Lemme guess, the a-hole who's gonna win uses Ken, Ryu or Akuma?
Ya know, I thought about picking Urien or Yun, since they are my two mains, but I saw this post and decided to go exclusively shoto for the finals.
Ryu = THE CHAMP :hot:
so for the Fighter Thread UMK3 tourney we have..
jimfoley
busta uppa
relentless rolento

I love how the guy that doesn't add anything to the thread always tries to put down everyone else to feel better. Didn't mama give you enough attention when you were little? Or did she wean you off the titty a little to early?
Back to fighting games, Guilty Gear Slash for 20 bucks is pretty tempting. The other thing that caught my eye is Virtua Fighter 10th Anniversary Edition. Did they change anything or is it just an exact copy of VF?

Actually, isn't it the same thing that was included in VF4: Evo?

I tried GGPO after learning about it on this site and noticed it used a version of FB that requires old romsets. The latest romsets don't require CPS2 XORs anymore...

Well, GGPO is in the alpha stage, so still plenty of time for improvements.
Whatever rom I used worked just fine. I have no idea about XORs.

XORs are decryption tables that were necessary for emulators to decode before the CPS2 encryption was completely cracked (a couple months ago). Since then, all major CPS2 emulators have updated their rom databases (MAME, Kawaks, and Nebula) and no longer need XOR tables. This means that all legit CPS2 dumps are now playable.
