I used to pop in my copy of FV in my cd player and listen to it all day. Gotta love that 80's metal sound. Yeah I thought FV2 lost a lot of the impact that made the first one so great. At this point, I'm debating just cancelling, because I don't think they'll get these games to me by next Friday, which is unfortunate.

Morrigan, for every twisted nerdy reason that one might expect. I actually still remember the very first time I saw her, in the intro to the first DarkStalkers arcade game. That's kinda sad but I'm proud of it dammit!

Haven't actually spent much time on the original, but a brand new take on Saturday Night Slam Masters would be fascinating!

DarkStalkers, especially if they could manage to do something similar to DarkStalkers 3 for PS1. That one was great because it combined the roster and features from all the games - you could even select which version of a character's music to use. * Asuka’s old f,f+2 from T5DR is now done by inputting SS+2.
* Her new f,f+2 is the 2nd hit from d/f+1,2 string in DR. On counter hit it shifts into the auto throw.
* New string, 2,1,1+2. The last hit throws the opponent down and can be cancelled.
* Asuka can now do the last kick of b+2,1+2,4 as a normal move.
* Most of her animation is the same as T5DR.

MARSHALL LAW

* Law has a new low, high string. His right foot kicks the opponent on their shin, the left leg then throws out a high kick. This move is from the final fight in Bruce Lee’s “Way of the Dragon” (Also called “Return of the Dragon”).
* Law had a new costume that was similar to the one where Bruce Lee fought Sammo Hung in “Game of Death.”
* His item move is done with the nunchaku. The animation is similar to Maxi’s movement in Soul Calibur.
* You can use Law’s item move infinitely. When you do the move Law takes out the nunchuaku to do the hit attack then hides it afterwards.
* Law’s movement/animation has changed and is more like Maxi’s movement from Soul Calibur.
* DSS/DFS seems to be the same as T5DR.
* The animation for b+1,2,1 is different.
* Many of the other moves have different animations as well.

RAVEN

* New move. FC 1+2, Raven vanishes for a short period of time. During the move you can input 4 and his d/f+3+4 from T5DR comes out. Inputting 2 during the move will give you his old d/f+1+2 from T5DR.
* The command of d/f+1+2 and d/f+3+4 are no longer there.

If I wasn't moving, yea, I'd totally keep it locked in - I still have another Strikebang coupon tucked away, in case I get up to NY, get settled, and have some extra cash on me, and I'll just reorder. Right now, it's cutting it WAY too close to the line for me in terms of shipping and getting it before I leave - hell, I expected to *have* it by tomorrow, but SamSho f'ed it all up. If it ships on Tuesday, which is the latest they are telling me, it's just too close - what a hassle if it shows up and I'm not even here anymore, and I have to pay *more* money to get it shipped up to where I'm going to be.

* Steve has a new stance. It’s the “peek a boo” stance done by inputting f+3+4 or 3+4, f+3+4. The motion is similar to the main character’s fighting style in Hajime No Ippo.
* From the “peek a boo” stance, you can use a 1 or 2 punch. His 1+3 throw from the stance is 6-8 punches. If the throw whiffs, you recover back in “peek a boo” stance.
* According to Namco staff, you are stationary during the stance and can’t do any movement.
* d/f+2 launches on counter hit only.
* b+1 range is longer. It is now easier to connect combos on counter hit.
* f,b+1,1,2,1 is either removed from the game or has a completely new notation.

It seems that DENGEKI PLAYSTATION magazine printed an error in their most recent issue. Out of all the errors, it had to be that the release date for TEKKEN 5: DARK RESURRECTION ONLINE was incorrect and should have been listed as TBA. This makes millions of Tekken fans around the world unhappy. :(

So now the question is… when will we see Tekken 5: DR ONLINE come out?

Darkstalkers/Vampire Collection did not get a US release. It did get a budget JP release so if you have a way to play JP PS2 games you're set.

Vampire Collection was just the five arcade games with a bunch of unlockable art. The coolest part in my opinion was being able to select different arcade revisions of each game. It's a minor thing I suppose but it showed that Capcom was really trying to do the ports justice.

The closest thing to Darkstalkers 3 in the US was the PSP release of Vampire Chronicles which, like it's initial DC release, allowed you to select the different modes of gameplay and characters (Vampire, Vampire Hunter, Vampire Savior, VH2, VS2) . The huge drawback there is that it's almost impossible to play because of the PSP's crappy controls.

Haven't posted in the fighting thread in a while.. I'm real excited about CPS3 being emulated.. I played a game of SF3 online yesterday and the my opponent was lagged and the graphics were sucking but the potential is definitely there. looks like I'm getting rid of a small heft of my collection. I do every 6 months a clean out of what I need to keep and get rid of. I normally don't get rid of my fighting games, but I've held onto some for so long yet never touch them and don't care to keep them.

I'm going to probably bundle my PS2, two PS2 controllers, 1 grey PS1 controller, and my games that are worth crap and then sell off the more rare stuff...

Smash Bros is a game anyone can pick up and have fun with almost instantly with easily recognizable characters... Tekken and Soul Calibur don't really have that.

I can give anyone a Gamecube controller and they'll pick up on Smash pretty fast, and everyone has a favorite Nintendo character included - most people I've tried to get to play any other 3D fighter think they look too bland and take too much work to get any good.

Brawl is a day one purchase for me - any other 3D fighter I wait until it's at least the $20 mark. Kiddy or not, Smash Brothers is an awesome game.

1) Heihachi's power bomb throw is a 2 break(triangle).... You can tell the difference between throw breaks based on which hand is extended out more when the throw animation begins. In this case, Heihachi's right hand is extended out further.

2) The easiest way to earn money is to play Ghost Battle and level up accordingly. Don't bother playing arcade mode, ever. If you want cheap tactics to beat the CPU AI over and over, just let me know what character you want to use... It's pretty easy...

I was wondering the same thing... there's not even an option to play on another field. It's just different heights on the same plane. 3d fighter = never SSBM

Do PS3 since you'll be able to play online. If you travel alot, get the PSP one. I play the hell out of portables but that usually because I'm home less than out... and portables hold my attention longer than home consoles.

man i'm starting to hate the fanbase for SSBM... at least at work, 'cause they don't know aaaaaanything but talk like they know stuff. it's kinda hard to explain, but it's like typical scrubby stuff.


i would totally kill at work if they played 1v1 on a bunch of normal maps, but they keep playing free-for-all on crappy maps like pokemon floats and big blue, so i always get assed out by random stuff.

oh yeah, at AX, console gaming room is going to have a bunch of couches and about ten 52" DLPs. they're also replacing the bleach tournament with a 3s tournament. on the other hand, you can't bring in your own stick because if it breaks AX is liable and they don't want that... but next year they're buying sticks so yea.

To any and all stick experts:

how hard is it to pop open a factory-made stick and just switch around the buttons? Like, on a 360 stick, taking whatever button corresponds to "RB" and switching it with whatever button is in the top-middle position - that sort of thing.

See, it doesn't seem like X-Arcade will release a 360 adaptor anytime soon, so I'm thinking it may finally be time to get myself a dedicated 360 stick.

HOWEVER - and that's a big "however" - my main game is UMK3. And a stick is useless to me unless I can swap around the buttons to accomodate the UMK3 layout, since the geniuses at Digital Eclipse didn't deem it necessary to put a button config in the game.

Oh, and another thing... do any 360 sticks have eight buttons? The ones I've seen only have six, which is kinda problematic. An 4x2 button layout allows for the best of both worlds.
If I just ignore two buttons, I've got the 3x2 layout for capcom games:

XX LP MP HP
XX LK MK HK

and for MK I can just use the following layout, which approximates the arcade cabinet rather nicely:

XX HP BL HK
RN LP XX LK

Hopefully someone does an 8-button stick because I'd really rather not get 2 new sticks for 2 games!!! I see that the Wii is getting an 8-button stick so hopefully Hori throws some of that 8-button love the way of the 360.

if KI1 comes out on XBL (b/c they'll release 1, which will drive up hype for 2, then release 2 a year later, at 800 points each), we'll see-- people will praise it as the best game ever leading up to its release, then it'll come out and people will say "see?!! I told you it was the best game ever!!!" then a week later everyone will have forgotten about it completely, online will dry up and people will be off praising some other crap as the best game ever.

Here are some more details from the latest issue of EGM:

* Soul Calibur IV will run 60 frames per second(this was revealed previously).
* The amount of detail in the game will be amazing! “The leather straps on Ivy’s thighs make real-time indentations into her skin as she fights.”
* The development team is putting so much detail into the game that they are actually rendering Taki’s nipples under her leotard.
* New characters will be kept under wraps and revealed closer towards the release date.
* “Guard Impact” is back.
* Stage design is still very early in development. Make sure to take note of these screens as the game progresses.
* The stages will be far more interactive and play a bigger role in battle. They use Zasalamel’s clock tower stage as an example.
* The development team is hoping to reduce the rate of ring out victories by making stages much larger than before.
* The game will be based on the Soul Calibur III engine and will be reworked from the ground up for balance reasons.
* Patching the game is possible if any issues come up with gameplay, but “we don’t intend to make a game that needs to be patched at a later date.”
* The health gauge is going to be changed. There will be a way to beat your opponent that doesn’t involve the health gauge or ring outs.
* No tag-team play.
* In regards to Soul Calibur on the PSP: “We’re happy to hear that players would like to see Soul Calibur on the PSP, so we’ll keep that in mind.”
* The “Create A Soul” mode is getting major improvements, such as being able to change your characters voice and certain customizations that will have an effect on gameplay.
* Online custom character trading is a possibility, as well as bringing your custom character to a friend’s house.

Xbox Live has proven to be extremely laggy when it comes to fighters. DOA and 3S are great games but it's been extremely difficult to find people that you will be able to play without lag interfering with the action.

Oh, and the SF controllers for the PS2 are very solid. They're not Saturn pads by any means but they get the job done. The Xbox SF controllers are a whole other issue. The dpad is extremely loose and the buttons are unreliable.

i've played nearly 4000 matches on third strike, and sure lag can be an issue, but i've had plenty of lag free (or very near it) matches.

i guess part of that is the fact that i played most of those matches when the game was recently released, meaning there were lots more options on who to play. it's not perfect, but still can be very enjoyable.

i wish i had a ps3 for mk2, but i can't justify $600 for a $5 game. nothing else on ps3 interests me right now.

i've heard of people having lag problems with mk2 as well though, so generally i dont think its going to improve until netcode and internet connections improve.

as for ggpo, i should probably check it out, anyone down for some sfa2 matches sometime? anyone know if sf3 2i and ts will be compatible with it down the road?
