If this is a pure ps1 port (not sure if it is ) After you beat the game is there a new game +
Over 50 hours of gameplay with branching paths and multiple endings!: Are you skilled enough to get the one and only true ending?
I wonder if you would have to start back at LEvel 1 everytime you play though,
I wonder if that 50 hours is what it would take to get though all the endings or just get though 1 playthough...
Im thinking about buying this off Amazon. (got like 50 bucks left with a gift card)
but if is a very short game i dont know if i should get it or not... I could always rent it off gamefly but this might be one of the harder to find titles in the future..
IF buy it off amazon i should have it in hand JUNE 28
If i rent it off gamefly I would hope to have it in hand JULY 3 or 5 (about week later)
I think one major thing will be IS Dungeon Maker: Hunting Ground is good or not
If its good then it would keep me buzzy till gamefly would ship it if not then i would be leaning more towards buying (then again maybe gamefly will have this game with KEEP IT under 23)

My main question is whether or not they fixed the inherent brokeness of the original.

how was it broken ... never played it on the ps1

I remember reading it was way too difficult, and as a result got pretty poor scores.
my problem with the original is that when a character dies, it is gone for good. Hopefully the new difficulty settings will fix the difficulty issue.

Well.. I beat the ps1 and that game is really hard. You really need to level grind in order to survive the next stage. Every map your constantly fighting enemies who outnumber you by 2 to 1 or in high elevation. The only way to really survive is to use "re lite xp trick" in order to get the highest class. When you get that class they reward you with really powerful weapons or armor. Easiest way to get multiple ending is create multiple save when the story is about to branch out or be lazy ass and go to youtube
If Atlus does a straight up port, I advise strongly against getting this game. But if they retool the game mechanics such as faster animation sequence and lower difficulty curve, it might be worth checking out for srpg fans. Still i think there are far better srpg then this. People should really be playing Final Fantasy Advance, Fire Emblem, Yggdra Union or Shining Force Dark Resurraction then this.

I've read that it's supposed to be a port, I'm not 100% though. A review will tell us if its the PS1 game or not.
The official site (http://www.aksysgl.com/hoshigami/system_04.html) has an overview of the changes. Supposedly the difficulty has been toned down significantly - the original version is now considered "hard mode".
Roufuss

Does nobody really do any research before they just start talking about games coming out? Hell, I can't even understand the OP.
It's not a simple port... hell, I'd classify it as a remake of sorts over a port.
It's got difficulty levels, new music, new missions, new items, a new character, a new translation... hell, it's all on wikipedia:
A new character not available in the PlayStation version.
New missions.
New music.
New localization.
Three different difficulty settings.
Revised interface.
Ability to control the game with the Nintendo DS stylus.
Branching story paths.
Multiple endings.
Over 50 hours of gameplay.
Ability to trade items with other people who have the game
It's basacially fixing everything wrong with the PS1 version. Sounds like they really put a lot of time into it.
Hilarious that the one guy up above advises everyone to play better SRPG's when this one isn't even out yet, nor has he played or seen the changes  For all we know all these changes could make Hoshigami a kick ass SRPG. I'm definitely going to give it a try as it sounds like it's had a ton of effort put into it and may make Hoshigami Remix leagues better than the PS1 version.
nyprimus4
06-21-2007, 03:32 PM
Yeah it sounds like they are making the effort but apparently the original was crappy enough that waiting on reviews sounds like a much better idea.
Stella Deus was suppose to game that fixed the problem with Hoshigami. It made huge improvements but it is far from one of the better SRPG
cletus

I was gonna start a thread asking about this game but figured I would wait until it actually came out. All I know was the original was tediously hard and this DS version gives you 3 difficulty settings. I wouldn't mind another SRPG now that I've played pretty much all of them for DS/GBA.

06-21-2007, 04:20 PM
can anyone answer this question.
Once you beat the game do you get a NEW GAME +
or do you have to start all over from level 1
if you want to see the different endings it might take a long long time if you got to restart each time.
Interesting to know if that 50+ hours is to see all the endings or just to beat the game once
Hopefully they will have like 3 or 4 save spots so you can save them and pick different paths later.. like Phatasy star 3 did .
i probally just order it off amazon cause the dudes at CC and best buy both said they probally wont carry this game

Yep.
I really don't think this one is going to be published with very large numbers - small, relatively new publisher, niche genre, probably a low print run.

so the game has shipped.... amazon said the game was cancelled till JULY 25
est shipping is JULY 25 to AUG 9
Amazon is notoriously slow with game pre-orders. It varies wildly depending on publisher, but in general, I'd never expect to get a game "on time" from them. I usually don't care because I'd rather save on shipping/tax rather than get the game exactly when other retailers get it.
Hearing of the new difficulty options and general improvements makes me more interested in this game now. I better go look for review before jumping on it, though...

then they shouldnt be putting out
Shipping JUNE 26
will have item June 28
found a way to call them and they admitted they dont even know if they are getting it. Told me to call back later tonight to talk to a supervisor since they have no clue how to cancell an order and put the money back on my account
I got prime + 100 bucks in toy gc last thanksgiving. Well they tried to cancell it and its saying they are not allow to put the money back cause the code is no longer valid.
they said i could wait and see if i can talk to a supervisor tonight (doubtful) and see if they can figure out how to cancell the item and put the money back on the gc or wait till July 25 for it to ship. hell i probally could get it off gamefly sooner then this piece of ##$#$ site. and cheaper
I think im done doing business with amazon
They been pushing this game on the main site for the last month. Delivery date JUNE 26 if they knew they couldnt send it out for a month then they shouldnt been pushing this game on their site... I even called them last week to make sure those dates were right. Cause i needed this game BY june 29 and they said
AS Long as you pick 2 day shipping the game will get to you BY JUNE 29, now they are telling me AUG 8
Edit off the phone with Eb and they said they only have enough to fill Preorders and wont have any extras for weeks

well If you ordered off AMAZON YOUR #$#$#$#$$, and now you cant find this game anywhere in stores (eb webpage shows in stock but when you call they say its backordered)
We are very sorry for the delay in completing your order. I have
reviewed your account and can see that this experience has been far
less than positive. We strive for convenience and efficiency at
Amazon.com, but in this instance we have fallen short of our goal.
I'm truly sorry that your impression of doing business with
Amazon.com has been so negative.
As a representative of Amazon.com, I want to assure you that we
value our customers' trust above all else--it's the foundation on
which our company was built. Please know that we'll continue working
hard to ensure that you receive accurate service, and to minimize
the chances of anything like this occurring again.
Please allow me to explain that sometimes unexpected fluctuations in
supply can add time to our original availability estimate. We have
learned that "Hoshigami Remix: Ruining Blue Earth" is now back-
ordered, and our supplier has not been able to let us know exactly
when they expect to have more in stock.
please understand that we do care for our customers and do all we
can to avail this item for you, in spite of all the efforts our
reliance on suppliers and manufacturers for information about their
stock, has caused this disappointment. I am extremely sorry for this
situation.
Please rest assured that you will receive the order sooner than it
is estimated
I can assure you that we are working hard to obtain this item for
you and we will ship it as soon as we are able to obtain it. This
means that we will ship the item as soon as we receive it from our
suppliers even if the estimated ship date has still not arrived.
I'm sorry that you were not notified sooner of this change in
availability.
You won't be charged until we ship it to you. On the date of
shipment, we'll send you e-mail confirming the date, contents, and
method of your shipment.
We would understand if you'd prefer to cancel your order. You may
cancel unshipped items through the "Your Account" page, accessible
at the top of any page on our web site. To cancel your order, simply
click "Cancel items or orders." After signing in with your e-mail
address and password, you will be able to view your order history
and cancel your order for any item that has not yet entered the
shipping process.
so they were selling items they knew they wouldnt even have in hand.... My only hope now is gamefly will have it

I got today from local mom and pop store. I doubt i will find these anytime soon at TRU to take advantage of their current sale. Plus, I get the friend discount of $25. Not too bad, if you figure in the tax. Most of gamestop around here in nyc have plenty of these. Rpg sales just suck in generally, even Odin Sphere was widely available here when first or initial print run was so low. Let see if this game is really improve from the old version.

Depends here for RPG sales, I live in a vastly urbanized area so not too many RPG players, mostly players of stuff like Bully and GTA, so RPG's especially lesser known ones I can wait until they gamestop-drop to 19.99 each. But stuff like Pokemon sells no matter what.

Every EB / GS near me has copies.

SAVER for free shipping.
Now it's not hard to find for anyone.
No other retailer looks to be getting this besides EB / GS, so this is the only other alternative. Plus, you just simply asked for a place to buy this game, to which I replied with the only available place. And really, you must live in an area with a strong love for RPG's and DS games if Hoshigami sold out at every Gamestop the very same day it was released. Chances are, if you just called, the employees were lying to you - they tell me constantly new release games are "sold out" and "I should have preordered" if the truck hasn't even shown up yet - I call back later that night, only to hear "Yea, we have the game in, quite a few copies". This just happened today with Hoshigami, and the guy assured me they weren't for preorders since no one preordered.

Meta critic average is 54 (http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ds/hoshigamiremix?q=hoshigami%20remix)
My early impression of this are very good despite the poor reviews. The game difficulty level have been drastically reduce from original version making it more enjoyable. On the easiest difficulty your characters don't die. The pacing of game improved as well. In easy or normal difficulty, you gain double the xp growth from original ps1 version. Couple of nifty feature like dual screen make stats and data make it more easy to read. The stylus is great for scrolling down deep menus. They also remove the redundancy of the confirm action. No more do you want to move or attack that spot yes or no for every single move?

Easy

Normal
* Enemy levels are predetermined depending on the stage
* Main character starts off with a a revive coinfeigm
* Perma death for characters
* Increased EXP given in battle
* Change equipment and restore HP between continuous battles
* Special ending graphic
Hard
* Enemy characters are at the same level as your highest level character.
* Perma death for characters

Your first problem is listening to Slidecage. I know someone who ordered this off the website yesterday, and it's already shipped, which is why I provided the link. Don't ever, ever listen to Slidecage. Honestly, cmon now, dude can't even write coherent sentences, and you're going to trust him?
Check back with your EB's / Gamestop's because I was made aware today that almost every store had problems with this game and it will start trickling in very slowly. One store wasn't expecting it in until next week, the store across the street just got in 6 copies today, of which I bought one, since the EB I called yesterday was a bit out of the way and I wanted to save some gas.
I think some stores are just trying to blow smoke up people's asses since both stores admitted to me there was a problem with the distrubutor / publisher / whatever in getting this in on the day it was supposed to come in, and it had nothing to do with "selling out" - chances are, your Gamestop's are going to tell you it sold out since they have *no fucking idea* what this game is. Either store had no idea what it was, nobody preordered it, the employee asked me what it is and how he's surprised he's never heard of it.

stores might be buying them from other places .... i ordered this off amazon and they said its back ordered till JULY 25. Well last 2 days called up to complain since i preorder this way back around June 4 or so and got an email today saying they were buying a copy off another amazon seller and would ship the game to me...
got a confirm email today the game shipped from amazon with 2 day shipping (should have in hand monday) even though amazon still says NOT IN STOCK and the Est av. date is JULY 25 to AUG 11
check on a few other message boards and other people who orderd from amazon orders still havent shipped and they have been told Not tilll JULY 25
so maybe if you call and complain to the store you want to buy from maybe they will get u one.

I'm tempted to pick this up even though it has received only average scores so far. The negatives mentioned in most of the reviews are stuff I don't care to much about. As long as they toned down the tediously hard difficult it sounds good enough. I really wish there were more SRPGs for the DS then just the current handful.

Get it while you can because this title will probably fade into obscurity real quick.
Bad reviews be damned, any game that's even remotely close to Final Fantasy Tactics is good enough to buy.

Odd, this game was up on the gamestop website for sale yesterday, several of the stores near my house list 1-3 items in stock, so it should be coming soon to a store near you.
Odd things have been happening with the stock in our Ebgames store, I don't work there but we have been getting shipments of games that never came in in the first place, a couple months ago I got fossil league there and the manager said that they never got it in before but it just suddenly came in, again its very weird.
This is another reason why we need some sort of rule on release dates, publishers, developers and retail stores should not be allowed to publish a release date unless they can actually deliver an ample supply of games ON that date.

Rule of thumb, don't listen to any Slidecage review on an RPG, as he nitpicks the dumbest, most inane shit possible. I'd hate for someone to be turned off by the game by a review that probably won't make a lot of sense. Here is Fatbeer's early impressions:

It superior to ps1 version on almost every single aspect except game mechanics. That remains unchanged.Look at official website for more details on battle system. Some people enjoy it for tactical strategy and some people hate it due to it complexity and linear skill tree. It all depends on users.

i don't recall game plus in original version. It's not a big deal since multiple endings are really easy to achieve if you got all the characters. Just let them die before you beat the game. The ds version have 7 save files, great for multiple choices in branching storyline.

There is no quicksave during battle for this game. It would be nice if they included it. Does it really matter on easy or normal mode? You get double xp. It does have special save slot for stages you have to fight two in row.
Jezzz.. the double xp is really broken when combo with relite xp trick. You gain one level after one or two uses. Figure that equation with coinfeign formulas you become unstoppable. It looks like I'm going to beat this game like faster than I thought. I'm not abusing it too much until I get all special characters. I hate to level them up later in the game

People still having a hard time find these? Most of 50 gamestop around here have 4 or more copies of Hoshigami. I think it's another one of those over exaggerated rpg fans saying this is rare

i think it was RARE in the first week since it seems the supplier had problems with shipping. Our local Eb at glenbrook only got 2 and said they probally wont get anymore. (not cause its rare its cause noone is asking for it)
I just went out today and got it for 31.79 at eb. I will return the AMazon one monday back to amazon (that is if it even comes)
Also got to run back monday and dump the gamefly one back in the mail monday if it comes (its been 4 days and still no game --- i think it got lost )
Before i open it IS IT WORTH 31 bucks. HOw long do you think it will take you to beat the game is it pure to its ps1 roots

game really needs an in game save mode. That 2nd battle took me over an hour ... Im starting to remember this game from the ps 1. I was thiniking it was something else and really didnt care for it on the PS1 LOL
O well at least its something to take on the road , it does seem the box lied and there is no way its going to take 50 hours to beat this game. Maybe on hard mode But no way in hell its going to take 50 hours on normal .
(I picked normal, easy just sounded too easy)

Yes, I too was tempted to pick it up then I remembered I really didn't care for the original.
Typically game boxes lie gameplay hours, I think they write them assuming you've never played an RPG before.;)

I finally beat this game. It's pretty long game, it takes about 30-35 to beat on normal mode. Maybe, longer if you do the bonus tower. They should really add a built in game save, some battles just drag too long. Overall, it pretty good game for turn based strategy rpg fans who want a new outlook with it RAP battle system. It doesn't feel like a must have game like puzzle quest. Story is pretty mediocre with it's typical jrpg storyline and battle mechanics is really broken when using archers or mages, they use less RAP points. Most of their attacks are really long range.

This a mini faq for those who don’t want to do the research and just get straight to the point,
useful information such as fast experience and coin growth without explaining the complicated stuff.
How does engraving systems work ?
Engraving is essential tool to boost things like magical attack strength or reduce cost.
http://www.aksysgl.com/hoshigami/images/system_03_33.gif
Look at picture above, all you really need to know is the assist of each element. To find a strong assist move clockwise by 2 spaces and the weak assist move counter clockwise by 2 spaces.
Example- Let's look at Amu(red) first. To find the strong assist,we move clockwise by two space which is Kashi(green). To find the weak assist, we move counter clockwise by two space which is ema(gray).
When combine properly, it can yeild high results. When we combine a level 1 strong assist and level 6 weak assist in it's corresponding color it will give you a huge stat boost.
Example- Let's use Amu again. We know that strong assist is Kashi with a corresponding color of green, so we use level 1 green type. The weak assist is Ema with a corresponding color of gray, so we use level 6 gray . When we combine the two in Amu coin it will yield a high stat boost.
To level a coin you need to fulfilled the requirements.
Level 1 to 2: MCP-30 POT-40
Level 2 to 3: MCP-50 POT-60 AOE-5
Level 3 to 4: MCP-70 POT-110 AOE-13
You can level up your coins with variety of ways- emblem or with two level one strong or weak assist.

They should really add a built in game save, some battles just drag too long.
I always wonder why people mention this for portable games. Can't you just close the DS/flick the switch on the PSP? Or do you really switch to other games that often?

what if your battery is almost dead and you want to save mid battle? :(
btw i dont know if anyone noticed, but in the review for this game on IGN, the reviewer calls hoshigami a remake to the ps2 cult classic lol
