View Full Version : There's no way to play Region 1 UMDs on an imported PSP, is there?

So I have a champagne gold PSP (The Golden PSP!), and while UMDs seem like a complete waste of money to me, there's this one movie I want to borrow from a friend. Is there no software out there or anything that will let me watch Region 1 UMDs?

I think there's something like that if you have custom firmware.

While some claim that you can do this on custom firmware, I own two psps both with custom firmware (white and blue), and I have never been able to get a region 1 UMD to play on them. Others claim to have success doing the opposite (European/Japanese UMDs on a U.S. psp).

I guess you can try it, especially since there's really no better choice than being on custom firmware, and especially since you won't be buying the movie. However, I wouldn't get my hopes up.

Okay, I found Dark Alex's site. But all of the updates have almost no description of the products. Can anyone narrow down which software I need?

from what i've read the region selection for UMD movies has never actually worked with the custom firmwares.

Well, the claim is that it now works on 3.40 OE-A'. Assuming your psp has already been downgraded to 1.5, then you can go ahead and install that version. You're better off visiting sites like pspupdates.qj.net or psp-hacks.com, if you've never experimented with the install before.

If your psp is not running 1.5, then you'll need to downgrade (if you're on 3.0.3 or below), and again for instructions visit the sites mentioned above.

If you hold R when starting up a PSP with custom firmware, there are various options. Go into "Configuration" and there should be an option "Free UMD Region". I haven't tried it myself as I have no UMD movies, but I can't think of what else that option would be for.
