I just found a Mario Kart 64 "Race Tracks" CD at a flea market in Santander, Spain. It has 29 tracks on it and contains basically every sound fron the game in those tracks. I have never seen this before and was wondering if it was rare it all or collectable....any value to it? The CD is really clutch and the "star powerup" will be awesome once I get in my car and really drive like an ass. Anyway...I checked EBAY and didn't come up with any results so do any of you know if this is worth anything? I'd be willing to trade, sell, or burn it for people if it is really worth it.

I'm sure Nintendo offered it in one of their old Nintendo Power catalogues. I know because a while back... long while, I purchased a CD Soundtrack for The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time.

If you just do a high quality rip and post it on alt.binaries.sounds.mp3.video-games (or whatever the newsgroup's called) I'm sure a lot of people will appreciate it. PM me if you're not sure what I'm talking about.
Anyway, it's not common, and it is fun, so go for it.

I did a few more searches on EBAY and found one at: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=62053&item=4023804 504&rd=1
--The CD went for a total of $43 including shipping....
I'm guessing this is very rare because I found only 1 on all of EBAY and only 2 websites that mention it. Seeing how this is very rare I am open to any offers people may have for it. I might EBAY it when I get back into the states in a little over a week. PM me with any offers about it. I cannot post it online because of the slow 33k connection speed that I have in Spain so sorry to all those who wanted to download it for free.
---Make me an offer on the CD....I'll reply to all and if the right one comes along will trade or sell the CD away quickly when I get back in a little over a week---

Well, it would be great if either you or the buyer could rip and post it....

Hey hotshot...how about contributing to the community before selling the CD for your personal gain?
If you just do a high quality rip and post it on alt.binaries.sounds.mp3.video-games (or whatever the newsgroup's called) I'm sure a lot of people will appreciate it. PM me if you're not sure what I'm talking about.
Talk to eldad9 and hear him out...unless the CD is still in mint shape (as in original packaging and never listened to), there's no reason at all for you to NOT rip it and upload the tracks to the internet.

Gothic...try and load up an hour worth of music with a 33k modem and a pay-per-minute service that I have here...after your done with that you can shut the hell up.
I'll be doing what I want with the CD too...ripping it online would be going against everything people bitch about on these forums about stealing games/software etc...Before I take something thats has value and give it away free why shouldn't I see what's out there? I'll be burning myself a copy when I return home...until then I'll field offers to whomever wants this complete...and very great condition CD. How collectable can something be if you can just download it for free from some random website?

Now, now, there's no need for that.
If the CD is new he immediately loses over a third of the value by opening it to rip it. Even if it's not, it will take time to use the proper tools (ripper, settings, create .nfo file, .sfv file and tracklist) and take a few hours to upload (although it's automated).
I'll be happy to explain how the process works and try to answer any questions.

Just thought I'd put in my two cents. -Jeff

Oh, I didn't for a minute suggest that you upload it before you get back! Also, burning it for one person doesn't seem worth the trouble when you can upload it on usenet and let the whole world enjoy it.
Though in truth I'm not sure if this soundtrack was posted before.

I didn't know they have two versions of the CD. I've got a Mario Kart 64 music CD (official from Nintendo) with 14 tracks and wasn't aware of another one.
Oh, and before anyone asks/demands, I've got dial-up, and taking a few hours to upload the music doesn't sound like the ideal way to tie up the phone line to the house while crippling my already slow connection.

why the hell would you put in your post that you will burn it for people when the only thing your interested in doing with it is sell it?? doesnt make any shaq-fuing sense if you ask me..

I'm going offline for the night...I have a MAC and am not sure if it will work with the upload service. I would rather sell the CD to someone first than post it up and degrade it's rarity. The CD itself is opened and in great condition. It is complete and plays perfectly. I'll check the PM's tommorow and recheck this thread as well. There is no way of me trading or selling this CD for over a week so to all of those people who are slamming me for not putting it online ASAP...relax and quit pushing me to do what is in the best intrest for you. Your not in the posistion to make decisions now are you? I'll post again tommorow but until then have a field day.
*EDIT* Death...I would rather sell the CD to a collector who wants the CD for it's rarity and value then trade away or sell away copies of the tracks on burned CD's. I won't be sending out any burned CD's until someone makes me a decent offer for the actual package. Having a CD thrown in a trade as a bonus to even things out sounds good right? I'd sure enjoy more of those. For now only the CD is offered for sale or trade and burned CD's will only...if ever...be offered up after the original is long gone out of my hands. I'm at odds with the whole free download thing. I'm sure everyone would love to download all the tunes from the game but in doing so I would cause the rarity of the tracks to lose their value...do you get where I'm coming from? I love the whole aspect of a rare find and ruining those really hurts the hunt for the originals.

I have some songs from that CD in mp3 format on my comp. I think i got them from Napster back in 1999, when my brother and i were really into game music.
If it isn't against any policy of this site, i'd be more than happy to send the few songs i have from that CD to anyone here - maybe someone who can post them online. I have Kalimari Dessert, Rainbow Road, and Mario Kart 64 Theme, Ending Theme, Koopa Castle.

Intresting. Can you post a list of all of the tracks and their run times?
brassguy04
07-17-2004, 01:14 AM
the tracks and times are in the ebay link he posted.
hmm - i just d/led another track off that same 'rare' CD off kazaa.
just because there is only one of something on ebay doesn't nesc. make it extremely rare or extremely valuable.
They are just tracks from a video game for crying out loud. I say share the tracks like millions of people have already been doing on file sharing programs like kazaa and napster.
It may be uncommon, but i doubt that valuable especially since it is already opened.
just my 2 cents.
If you're looking to maximize you profit on the thing, I'd suggest just listing it on Ebay rather than trying to solicit a lucrative offer from a group of cheap ass gamers.

the way i see it, if you are going to sell the game, go for it. but let's be honest, most people here won't pay $43 for that cd, because that's outrageous. sure, there are certain people that would be more than willing to pay that much, and that is what ebay is for. but, if you want to do something cool for the people on this site, maybe you should burn some copies or upload the tracks. it's not like this cd is readily available to anyone at their local store. also, burning some copies or uploading the tracks does not change the rarity, since you are only burning copies or uploading the songs. the amount of real cds actually pressed will not change, and therefore the rarity will not change.

Please do not distribute single tracks from kazaa. they lack meta information and are likely of inferior quality.
As for the original poster:
Making the files available on usenet does not lower demand for the physical disc; in fact, it may increase interest in it.
But if you're afraid it will decrease the final price, here's the plan.
1. make copy of CD.
2. sell original.
3. send copy to 1 - just 1 - CAG who will take it upon himself to prepare and upload the mp3 version.
4. everybody wins.

whatever, just trying to help. i thought you just wanted some tracks off the cd. 1 i just got off kazaa, the others (other 4) i've had on my computer for years, probably originally from napster.
what is "meta imformation" ? As for file quality - the file quality of the tracks I have is absolutely fine. Some better than others, but they all play very well and most of them are all CD quality or better.
Just trying to help, sorry.
eldad9

meta information, i should have said metadata, is information about information.
that is, the mp3 encoded sound is the actual information. meta information may include the track name, track number, composer, ripping software etc.

I have put this stuff on cds and mp3 players - im sure its all there.
but if you want to get the tracks from this guy - fine.
you were slightly right about the kazaa thing, although it depends on who you download stuff from: the 1 song i got off kazaa was low file quality.
The ones that I have had for years from napster are all very high quality.
I really doubt that this CD is worth more than $10, no matter how much it sold for on ebay.
if you think you can get the same, then put it up on ebay.

Not to get off subject, but I have the killer instinct gold cd, that was a pretty kick arse soundtrack.

Well, by definition really, it's worth exactly as much as the OP can get for it; I wish him luck. Personally, I think I'd keep it.

well said, thatstoobad. Especially about the "I don't want to burn it because it will ruin the rarity" argument. Which, if you think about it, is rather amusing considering the OP stated he would burn it for people.

Well, if he had a change of heart, that's fine. He doesn't owe us anything, and we probably won't die from not having the soundtrack.

I've gotten 3 PM's`about this CD so far...I will reply to all of them tommorw seeing that it is past 230 here. Im still taking offers on the CD and will continue PM conversations when I return to the states next Monday. I cannot do anything with the CD until I get home anyway. Like somone said before...my best bet would to be to sell iton EBAY...I'm a fan of CAG though so I posted it here first. Unitl I sell or trade the CD away no copies will be made. I will ask the seller or trader if they would mind me trading away burned copies. If the person allows it then Ill do so...if not then I wont. Its all up to whoever gets the CD in the end. I for one do not need the original copy and if I can bring in some money for it then Im much happier having a copy. Theres another week for bulllshitting on this topic though and I really appeciate you guys lending your thoughts about it in the thread. Keep those posts and PMs coming...

I got the Starfox64 CD from an EB for a penny when the game originally came out. It wasn't really quality music, but hey if people like the stuff I guess those soundtracks have some value

I bought this cd for 5 bucks around a year after MK64 came out at EB. However, he seems to a different version.
