Corruption is nowhere near as hard as Echoes. It's not even as hard as the original Prime. Part of it is because of the new controls, but also too many people complained about the difficulty of Echoes and so Retro tuned it down.

Add me back guys. I'm not even sure everyone I added has the game because I think I just went down the line of the last couple pages  But hey, it doesn't hurt to have more Wii friends for whenever they decide to let us do things with it.
So with the vouchers feel free to send me a couple. I'll return the vouchers in equal amounts i.e. send me 3 I'll send 3 back.

I didn't even know you added me. We really need to give warnings about this sort of stuff. Too bad you can't message strangers >_<
Zen Davis, try playing it on Veteran. After the 3rd boss, it starts to nuke you like no tomorrow. At least it did for me.
As for the disc update, I have NO IDEA what it did. The message thing was already there FYI. That came in the last update. My only guess is that it has to do with sending Friend Vouchers via WC24.

what's the veteran difficulty setting most comparable to? Is it like the default difficulty of Metroid Prime 2?
I think it's about like normal mode on MP2. At times it seems slightly harder, but maybe I'm just a wussy.

That's what I chose first. Almost got myself killed trying to take pictures of the first boss on Bryyo. A little disappointed though, the pictures aren't that big when viewed on your message board. Still a 'neat' addition I s'pose, could come in handy for giving tips for others.

Yellow tokens pop up for killing bosses and finishing some key events, but I've also gotten them on occasion for other "special" instances.
For example, at Skytown, there's a path you can only cross using the screw attack. I found a red variant of a phazon enemy, and killing that unique got me a yellow.
I'll add Tybee and Apossum to my list, and will get some more vouchers sent out later.
And I think I'm starting to understand reviewers mentioning the easiness of the game. I just killed Omega Ridley, the final boss of the pirate homeworld, and it wasn't that hard at all. You just need to learn when you can absorb energy in boss fights (go hyper mode!) and learn how to deal with all the attack variants. I've had more trouble on large groups of pirates than most of the bosses. But those bosses are fun.
And for those who have played through a good chunk: Samus just looks more and more badass with each increase in Phazon corruption! Never thought I'd say a neon purple/blue color set is badass. And watch how her eyes change in the scan visor; at the point I'm at, Samus is starting to look a little too disturbing...

Samus is too badass for a knife, she should just have a melee punch to the face that's a one-hit kill. Maybe like a Phazon-punch or something. Walk up to a pirate and crack em in the jaw and they fly across the room dead. Nobody fucks with Samus.

I dunno, it would be sweet motion control action to grapple lasso an enemy towards you with the left then swing with the right and slice'em with one of these ;)

When one entire arm is essentially a giant canon, trying to hold a melee weapon isn't exactly practical. ;)
Speaking of which: If Mega Man and Samus had a kid, would he have two canons for arms?

Samus has been under the control of the control of Dark Samus the entire time. All Samus can manage to do is destroy the physical shell of Dark Samus and so the spirit of the Dark Samus inhibits the AU unit and becomes Mother Brain. Samus then dies and is reincarnated as a baby.

The Valhalla is either an endgame or an optional area; I'm not far enough to know exactly what it's used for, but I know you unlock more areas using the energy cells you get occasionally from the planets. You also get some more missle/energy tank pickups as you go.
Don't worry about the Valhalla for now. Just focus on getting the 3 pieces in Skytown. Then go fuck up the Leviathan seed. :)

Which of the three piece do I go to first?
The piece that was closest to you is the first one you'll go after. However, you have to search around for a bit for the right passageway; you'll pass "under" the object a few times and eventually you'll get to the top part of that room. There will be a Berserker Lord fight in that room; you can get the first piece after that.
Then it all starts to fall together. You have to get the pieces in order. You'll pick up the seeker missiles before all this, if I remember correctly.

No, the address book is a bit more difficult than (I think) it should be.
From the Wii Code Thread: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=115788
Finding Your Wii Code
Quote:
It's a bit hidden. Go to your Mail (lower right envelope icon from Wii Menu), from there select the Letter/Memo icon in the lower left corner. You should have 3 options now, one of which is the Address Book...
Once you add people (and they add you) and if you keep WiiConnect24 on, your address book will update sometime while the machine is off. MP3 uses all the friends you have added and if any of them have MP3 save data, they'll show up under the Extras menu from the main page of the game...

Actually, I'm almost done with that as it is, and I only have to hunt for two of the 9. 6 I came across during my normal play, and 1 is right outside the front door of the Valhalla. And considering one of my favorite things to do in a Metroid game is hunt down every upgrade, the energy cell hunt just gets added on to my expansions hunt.
But, fuck, that one on Bryyo where you had to get the statues head, then put it on the statues and have it smash open the debris, then open the secret passage from one side, then fly over to a different section, then go pick up the giant Federation battery, then open up and go through the OTHER side of the passage, then go drop the battery on a device, then finally get the energy cell? That sucked. I have never been that confused on how to approach a puzzle in a Prime game before.
Now, off to get the "storage" cell in Skytown and a few more powerups, then it's off to the end of the game!

Thanks a lot! That's the one I've been having trouble with. Where are thestatue's head and giant federation battery?
Ah, hell, here's the whole process for you. But I want a fucking friend voucher for this. ;)
There is a room past the place where you got the missiles for the ship, behind that orange door, where there are three statues, each activated differently. Activate the one up top (the ice missile one) to freeze the gel waterfall. Go up past the waterfall, and go through the morph ball areas. You'll end up back in the "hidden" room where you will shoot open a new platform that lets you reach the orange-door on the top. That will lead to the statue's head. Have the ship pick it up.
Go back to the room with the three statues, activate the "heat" statue. That leads to a room with two objects that can be destroyed by a "heavy impact". Look for the statue behind the ship missile expansion, drop the head on it, and it will break both objects open. Go through the passage, and you'll see that underground connection pathway I was talking about. Open it on that end (and grab the energy tank between the wall jump area) and notice that you can't yet reach the other side. Go back to your ship, and fly to the area in the lower left (not the main or fuel gel area, the other one).
Go back to the second pirate turret you destroyed earlier (the one through the "left door", if you will). The federation battery is there. Have the ship pick it up. There is a passage right under that battery. It leads to the other side of the underground pathway. Open that end, and go though the now fully-open path, back to the area where you finished the statue. Head back to the "hidden" place, drop the battery next to the gigantic federation mining tower, and you'll see how to FINALLY get the energy cell.
There you go. For anyone else reading this, if you want to save yourself a ton of frustration at the scavenger hunt near the end of the game, see the above spoiler. :) This one alone is nearly worse than the fucking sky temple keys from Echoes! The others have been easy so far, but this...

I picked this up on Wednesday night and had to take a break from it last night, but I had a vacation day today, playing most of the afternoon and now I'm trying to wrap up Bryyo (I think I'm almost done).
So far an awesome game! I was wondering how they'd pull of the controls and I picked up on advanced almost immediately with no issues (I think CoD3 for the Wii helped me with that). I thought I'd hate other people in the game (Metroid's been about isolation on alien planets for the last 20 years, after all), but the voice acting and the little bit of the story make it work really well.
I'm down to trade vouchers (PM'd a few people already), so if you'd like to trade with me, just PM me and I'll add you and trade you back.
Thanks!

Although I am liking the game, I'm a little pissed that, despite turning off hints, the game still kinda holds your hand about where you need to go next. I enjoyed walking around like a buffoon in the first two games.
That's probably my biggest gripe so far, with the other being the missile upgrades and health upgrades seem to be in way too obvious places. I remember having to scour the terrain for them in the previous games, not come across them naturally through the course of play.
Also, for those wanting to be a snobby purist about some of the changes, you can turn off the "achievement" notifications in the options menu.
So, my setup is advanced control scheme, veteran mode, hints off, achievement notification off. I'm a jerk.
All snootiness aside, I'm really liking the game. The graphics blow away any Wii game out there. Just got the plasma beam. Ready to tear it up some more!

me too... i'm glad i did too. if i would have bought the game, it would have been a waste of 50 bucks... or so it seems thus far.
I played an hour of Metroid and had to stop playing because I felt dizzy and like I had to throw up for some reason. i went on the computer afterwards, and what do you know, after 5 minutes i felt fine.
I decided to get off the computer after 30 min to go shoot some hoops for an hour. Feeling like a million bucks, I decided to give Metroid another try, and yet again I felt sick after about like 10 minutes in this time. I closed my eyes for about a few minutes and switched to Mario Strikers Charged and played for over an hour and felt fine.
I'm not sure what it is about Metroid that's making me sick, but I'll give it one last try again tommorow evening. If i feel sick again I have to label this game worse than WiiPlay or Pokemon Battle Revolution.

That's strange. Wonder what would cause that, especially if other fast paced games don't cause problems. Do you have any type of phobia that the game is triggering? Just an off the wall idea. If it continues then I would return it or trade it in quick while it still has value.

LoL... obviously it would be my personal opinion, not a worldwide fact.
Anyways, this is the first time I felt sick playing a game in my whole life. Metroid isn't even a fast past game so its wierd.

You know, it's weird, but this is the first game I've ever played in 20 years that makes me feel sick too. It's not like I haven't played the hell out of every major FPS back from Wolfenstein 3D, but this is the ONLY one gives me a major headache and a queasy stomach every time I play. I wonder if it's the weird slow spinning with the remote... Elebits didn't make me feel this way, so I dunno.

No where close...
My MP skills are rusty as I keep getting my head handed to me on Bryyo. I think I'm being too stingy about hyper mode...

Hell yeah, I got that shit too, man did it make running around pointlessly less necessary. I've still spent 13 and a half hours so far and I've collected everything on those 3 planets, but have 27 pickups left.
It also dled data for Tallon IV and Aether but I dunno wtf that added to the logbook. The whole thing isn't really necessary though after getting x-ray visor and since I scan like crazy, but it made it take a lot less time since I could see about where I needed to be looking.
And as for motion sickness, I have pretty weird motion sickness (I can't read or play video games while riding in a car or I'll get queasy), but I've never had a problem with any video game at home.

Yeah MP can make me a bit sick. I think the 60 fps and smoothness doesn't help, but it also has a narrow FoV which I think is the culprit.
I learned back in the 1st MP to look at the game like a movie and to accept that it's a bit claustrophobic instead of fighting it or picturing myself in the game if that makes any sense. And I just got used to it so it doesn't bug much now.
Oh it also doesn't help that it has all those bright explosions and lasers and bright colors.
HL2 and MoH on the pc were games that also made me a bit sick.

I beat it at 93% last night, and I know I still had 2-3 upgrades left in two of the planets, and probably 1-2 on the other planet(s). I'll go back sometime this weekend, pick them up, and see if there are any extra bonuses for 100% completion.
And those other two planet downloads are for kicks. They let you know how those two planets were doing after you saved them in the earlier games. Read the Aether log, it's kinda interesting.
Has anyone chose to save after beating it? I want to know if the tokens carry over to your new save file, kinda like a newgame+ idea.

Scans and tokens carry over into your next game. I beat it on veteran with 83% completion, but just didn't feel like finding the missing items.
Of course I just read about the hologram, which would have made the game even easier. Was trying out the hyper mode difficulty and noticed that nothing in the GFS Olympus needed to be scanned, so the second play through will be even more action oriented since I know the puzzles and there is no need to scan anything.
For anyone who has beaten the game what did you think about the voice over during the end credits, it took me by surprise. and for those who haven't beaten the game: stay through to the end of the credits.
BTW the 100% ending according to what I have read shows a ship following Samus after she flies away from the GFS. Maybe a hint towards the start of Metroid: Dread

That's strange. Wonder what would cause that, especially if other fast paced games don't cause problems. Do you have any type of phobia that the game is triggering? Just an off the wall idea. If it continues then I would return it or trade it in quick while it still has value.
FPS games are the worst for motion sickness, and I'd imagine this one would even worse than most since it's so shaky when moving (if you're using advanced controls) unless you have super steady aim and can keep the cursor in the middle of the screen all the time.
Thankfully it doesn't bother me at all.

I liked it at the very beginning. Norion was kinda boring. Yeah, the boss battle was legit, but I guess I was kinda annoyed by the whole "hey, there's a buncha other people getting involved in my fight. fuck off." thing. So yeah, I hope it gets better, because right now it's nowhere near as good as Metroid Prime 1. I don't remember anybody involved with any bosses, at least not that fought them. What I was talking about was the final boss in Norion Ridley I know Rundas comes and keeps you from smashing into the ground dead but he didn't really do anything in the fight. Sure, as a tutorial, that segment is perfectly okay. The boss fight was awesome, especially since I'm a long time Metroid fan. I was just getting worried that the whole tutorial segment was the whole game since no Prime game has had that long of a tutorial. Phew.

Elebits didn't make me feel this way, so I dunno.
yes! i knew i couldn't have been the only one!
Mark me down for the crazy motion sickness as well. However, now I go everywhere in morphball mode and it's gotten better. :)
OMG Zen! I stop feeling sick when i switch to the morphball mode too.
First person shooters + 60 fps = dizziness for some people. My ex-girlfriend was like that. She could not stand to watch me play any first person shooters.

Just beat the boss at Elysia and spent the last hour or so running around picking up expansions and collecting fuel cells to take to the Valhalla.
My opinion stays the same since my last post. The controls are fucking phenomenal. I'm really really surprised by the game, since the way Retro was describing it before launch, I was expecting it to completely cater to n00b soccer moms. I'm sure they had plenty of pressure from Nintendo to do so, but they managed to keep just challanging enough. =] I really wish that turning hints off would completely prevent NPCs from saying, "Hey, why don't you go check this out?" And I also wish that voice acting could be turned off.
But despite that, the game has far exceeded my expectations. Chacrana, when you get to Bryyo, it's classic Metroid. Stick with it!

Geez this game is good. I'm on the west side of Bryyo now. Only died once so far, but that's just because I didn't catch on to the scenario fast enough. #-o
It was where you need to switch off the two jamming signals so you can call your ship to come bomb the pirates for the first time. I spent quite a while killing wave after wave of flying pirates before I realized, too late, that I needed to be doing something else. Took care of it in 2 minutes after that. Oy.

They probably did that so it didn't require constant scanning to unlock the stuff. I do nothing but scan and I, too, have a ton of reds but I would imagine many people won't get near that many. Yellows, and of course greens, are in too short a supply right now for me.
I just bought the Mii Bobblehead. I had no idea it went in the ship. Very nice ;).
Anyways, I need WAY more friend vouchers. If anyone sends one I'll send one back. Since this game is console specific code, rather then individual Mii codes like in Mario Strikers, if I were to send a voucher your way.. would you AND your son get one? Or just you? Well, I can answer that. The vouchers come to the system and get shared - but not in a good way. If I start up his game it says how many friend vouchers there are to claim (sent from CAGs). If he takes one, then it is gone for good. So, yes, your friend could snag all of the ones sent to you . It is whoever claims them first. That's why I need twice as many (but, like I said, also have twice as many to send out in return).
Doomed - you get red medals from scanning people/pirates/monsters. You get blues from scanning lore (usually fairly obvious computer terminals or paintings, things like that). The "normal" stuff is not necessary to scan.

Oooh! Because yesterday a CAG sent me a friend voucher and when it came up it asked me how many I wanted to get credit for. I was kinda confused since I thought.. Well, if someone sent me 4, why would I only want 3?! But this makes much sense now! Thanks for clearing that up for me!

Don't do it! I tried out the other settings earlier to feel the difference, turning was way too slow. Some enemies and especially bosses are way too quick to not use the advanced setting. It really is the perfect FPS handling. I wish there was a quick turn around, I often press Z and down on the analog out of habit from RE4.

What is it in by default? I was kind of annoyed by what seemed like slightly slow turning when I was fighting Rundas. I've never looked at the settings so it is what it is by default.

Its in the lowest by default I think. After IGN's video review I immediately just went into advanced in the options before I even started playing.
I'm thinking I have enough friend vouchers. I had earned about 16 and sent them out and recieved more then I can return. I probably have enough to get all the bonuses but my past 2 hours of gameplay got me no new vouchers. I'm thinking of starting a new file real quick, and kill 1000 of those bug things in the beginning for a quick 10 vouchers to pass out to the people I owe them to.

I think default is old school prime lock-on with no free aim.
I think default is old school prime lock-on with no free aim.
Definitely not. I didn't change a thing and there ain't no lock-on happening. Well, the camera locks on to a target, but you still have to aim the Wiimote. And the lock-on is flaky as hell. It is actually a hinderance in some of the boss fights as it breaks frequently and then you have to recenter. It seems like it breaks every time you get hit or something (though not every time, I can't quite figure it out). I'd rather just control the camera myself than have that happen.

No, the default is "standard," the middle option. Advanced takes a little bit of getting use to, but it's the only way to go.

Anyone else having trouble beating Mogenar? I tried 25+ times and the farthest I can get is destroying 2 of the 4 balls. And you can't beat him if your health gets to the last part due to hypermode not working with low energy.
Every other boss has only taken me 2 tries. Maybe the other stuff is too easy but mogenar is near impossible.

Yes, default is standard, which is just slower turning with free aim.
The lower option is the old lock on with no free aim, and advanced is the same as standard, just with much higher sensitivity and faster turning.
Advanced is the way to go, though it is annoying sometimes as it is so sensitive it's hard to keep the aim straight forward as it has a very small area in the middle where you're not spinning one way or the other. But it is the best of the three options.

I was thinking that I was fucked when I played that boss, but I was patient and eventually got it, here's what you do shoot the balls when he tries to grab them to make sure he never gets new balls in his body. Just avoid his attacks and wait around and energy comes up every once in a while. Repeat and get energy until you have enough to survive. It's really all about patience, it'll take a little time, but you'll beat him.

Yea I know how to beat him, I just can't get it done before he kills me.
Most of the problem tends to be when I have to plant bombs at his feet. You can't get within 5 feet without it hurting you, which doesn't really make much sense. When you do, it takes about 20+ energy each time. Then he runs right over you if you don't get out of the way.

You'll occasionally get vouchers for other things, as well. What I can recall:
Shatter 20 frozen reptile enemies on Bryyo. On that bridge in Skytown where there is a row of steambots all lined up, use the boost ball to bowl through them.
I'm sure I came across others, but I can't remember what they are. You also can get a bunch of yellow tokens at the end of the game for wandering around and killing the red phazoids you come across.
Oh, and the best way to kill a Metroid is X-ray visor + Nova beam = one hit sniping kills!

They should just make the boss easier after 20 tries so people don't get drained on one boss. I'm about to put the game up and forget it.

Swingman, remembering that holding a charge draws powerups to you. What I did was destroy a ball and bomb his feet and then just keep runing around dodging and shooting as need be. Various things bring energy to the field and doing a lot of charging will just draw it to you. It takes a while that way, but you can refill all your energy tanks if you want to via that method. I usuall just made sure I had 2+ before hitting the hyper mode again. You also don't have to get real close to the feet for the bombs to work. Try straffing the outside of his feet with bombs; don't go in between them.

That's what I did, I had blown up two balls and thought I was dead, then figured out that energy was coming up so I just jumped around with a charged shot collecting energy until I was full, then went for another ball, then collected energy until full again, then finished him off. I'm paranoid about energy so you don't really have to fill up all the way, but that's pretty much the pattern. I tried to stay away from the feet while bombing. How many energy tanks do you have? Maybe you can go pick up another one before you try again. IIRC I had 4.

I don't want to sound like a hardcore braggart, as I usually suck at FPSs, but I'm surprised people are having trouble with this game. I'm playing on Veteran and I feel like I've got fairly poor aim, but I'm finding the game to be really easy (and I'm only a few hours away from finishing it). It might just be that I've played both other Prime games on hard, so I'm kind of used to how Metroid games work. Like most bosses are pretty easy if you're really patient and figure out when and how they give you opportunities to regain health. Like most of them will shoot some kind of projectile that can be shot and you can gain health from it. Then you just need to pay attention to their attacks and how to play defensively. The third seed boss took me upwards of 20 minutes, but I beat him on my second try by being really patient and playing defensively.

It took me about half an hour to win that battle. Basically you bomb his feet and run away and then roll around and collect all the energy he drops. Don't bother charging as you're going to get caught by him. Just roll around and gather up all the energy he drops. It's basically a battle of attrition.
If you try to kill him right away, you're going to get hammered. Take out the front three and do whatever it takes to stop him from getting more balls. If you keep letting him get those balls back you might as well reset the game and try again. Until you're able to do that, the battle is unwinnable.

Actually, I don't think it would work.
You see, save files are tied to the Mii. Meaning if you tried to load it up to a different system, the Mii wouldn't be there...
See where I'm going with this? I beat it already and I have a strategy for you, although dangerous, it does work.
Go into Hyper Mode. Only fire in Hyper Mode. When you get low on Phazon, become corrupted (Phazon Bar goes red). Remember to drain when appropriate until you vent. You will lose minimal health. It's dangerous, but it makes the game a lot easier if you can do it effectively.
As for Good Ol' Strategy...
Destroy 1 Red Ball at a time, then destroy the hole. He can't regenerate an orb there if the area is destroyed. Go for the 3 on the front first. After that, he'll start charging at you, leaving his backside open for MASSIVE DAMAGE.

Just beat the game on Veteran. Here's my spoilerless list of pros and cons as compared to other Metroid Primes.
Pros:
-Fastest paced Metroid yet (some backtracking, but in a good way. Not tedious just to increase play time like parts of the first 2. And the "warp" points i.e. your ship, helps a great deal in trimming the fat).
-Largest Prime geographically. Lots to explore.
-The least combat heavy of the Primes. I like combat, but not when it gets in the way of me trying to get from place to place. Despite its' more conventional control scheme, Prime 3 is an adventure first and an action game second. I loved it.
Cons:
-Voice-acted NPCs (well, any NPCs) were all pretty lame and took away more than they added. I mean an escort mission in Metroid. C'mon.
-Terrible opening. The "tutorial" phase lasted at least twice as long as it needed to and the early environments were really bland.
-Secrets seemed a bit easier to discover this time around. I finished at 87%. My record was 77% in both earlier Primes.
-A lot of the upgrades were a bit lame. Most of which were essentially "keys" that allowed you to get past specific doors and barriers, but had little impact on the core gameplay.
Neutral:
-Controls are neither better nor worse. Different, but equal is the best I can describe it. For the most part I liked them, but I felt like a lot of the bosses felt too similar to play because they often came down to precision aiming at the weak spot. The bosses were still wildly creative, varied, and a whole lot of fun, but just the idea of having to manual aim made them all feel a bit too similar.
-Bosses are still awesome (and plentiful).
-Environments are still very pretty (after the first hour at least).
So overall I'd say it was a worthy successor to Primes 1 and 2. If I had to choose a favorite, I'd probably still go with Prime 2 due to its' devious puzzles, secrets, and bosses, and it's hard to choose after that. I guess I'd say I liked Prime 3 a bit better than the first. It was a bit more hit-and-miss than the first game, but I felt like the pacing made it an all around more enjoyable experience. Hope you all enjoy it as well!

Mogenar sucks fucking balls!!!
Finally beat this fucker. Took a good 2 1/2 to 3 hours of trying. I had 5 energy tanks (which I think are the most you can have at this point) and still struggled.
Though part of it was that my Wiimote batteries were low so the aiming was a bit non-responsive, beat him on the 2nd try after changing batteries (after god knows how many before).
I have to say the whole hyper mode taking a tank of life each time is a bit lame if they're going to make boss battles require hyper mode shots to damage them in certain points.
This battle was needlessly drawn out because of that and having to dodge around and wait for chances to get health to be able to go into hyper mode and finish it off.
I'm still absolutely loving the game, but jesus christ was that boss a pain the ass!!
Wow, I usually suck at games like this compared to most CAGs (and take 3-4 times as long, usually, too). But is this boss you are all talking about the guy with the glowing red orbs and he snags new ones if you don't shoot them down? I just beat him tonight and, though he was somewhat challenging, I did it on my first try. I think I had 4 (possibly 5?) energy tanks. Yeah, the hypermode shooting is always annoying when you have to do it at the end of a boss fight, but as others have said you get plenty of health items (though seemingly fewer than in some earlier ones). Personally, I had more trouble with Rundas. I think I actually lost that one once. And the bosses on Elysia seem much easier for whatever reason (though I ain't done there yet by any means).
As for the length of the game, did I read correctly that someone here finished it around 9 hours? If so,. I'm at 8 1/2 and I'm at 22% I think. But I play very thoroughly (slowly and deliberately). I just got the plasma beam and I plan on going back for every orange door I remember seeing in multiple places.
Someone mentioned getting vouchers for other things. I wish I had known about bowling the robots on Elysia. Is that in the part where the bridge falls (and thus you only have one chance)? I did pick one up for finding a shortcut - freezing one of the gel falls (look up) and going through it to get a shortcut back to the ship. It was a nice thing, too, because it saved going through several rooms.

The bowling voucher can be had if you ball charge into any group of those weak robot dudes. They regenerate in this one ring shaped room that I believe is pretty close to a landing point.

Right right.
I'm pretty sure two weeks ago everyone was saying "MP3? F that, Bioshock looks awesome."
And besides, I thought all the casual gamers were on the Wii, and big tough mean 360 fanbase eats iron nails for breakfast and dont gots no time to play around like babies.
And then on top of that, no one was going to buy MP3, cuz only 80 year old polident mamas and 44 year old soccer moms actually own the Wii.
So which excuse is it? I can't sit around for your Monday morning quarterbacking much longer.
Or Tuesday, in this case.
As much as I don't care to compare Prime and Bioshock, you act like fanboys haven't been sitting around talking about how MP3 totally sucks and how Bioshock is totally going to rape it.
Edit: Besides, what do you care anyway? We all know Halo 3 is going to come out and sell more than (Bioshock + MP3) x2. At least, it is likely that it will.

And if you knew anything about sales regarding the Prime franchise, you would know that Echoes pretty much bombed compared to the first Prime. Prime 3 is a litmus test, as was Resident Evil 4 Wii, for other developers to see that hardcore games will sell on Nintendo's little white box.

I always thought the 360 was the system of choice for casual gamers? I was surprised to see the hype for Bioshock was much bigger than Metroid considering Metroid's a proven franchise. For those of you having problems with some of the bosses, especially when they charge at you, you need to learn to dodge. If you lock on to an enemy, you can move to the left or right and double-tap B and you will dodge. If you do this multiple times in succession, you can successfully dodge most attacks.
This move has been around since MP1, but I don't think it is documented anywhere in MP3. The manual for this game completely sucks.

Yep, so I'm glad it's doing well. But I'm not surprised. I figured it would sell well initially, as of the Wii owners a good chunk of early adopters are going to be hardcore Nintendo fans, and this is really the first big game for them since Zelda at Launch (games like SPM, Strikers etc. are kind of side series that dont' generate the same kind of excitement as a main series Mario, Metroid or Zelda).
Will be interesting to see if it keeps selling well and can get over the 1 million mark this year.
But at least this and RE4 should should developers that there is a marker of Core gamers on the Wii, and they can put out something other than fucking mini-game collections!

Just an FYI, there's no doubt Metroid will sell well, but it ain't anywhere near confirmed to be 400k.
1) Gamasutra charts Amazon sales (not any sort of national sampling). Metroid was the overall top seller on Amazon last week when it was released. It beat Bioshock, which was on its second week, so not terribly surprising.
2) VGChartz says that Bioshock sold 400k its first week. Numbers are questionable, but let's just go with it.
3) N4G, whoever they are, takes VGChartz numbers, misreads Gamasutra as saying that Metroid's first week bested Bioshock's first week, therefore Metroid sold > 400k.

My final time for my first play through was 13 hours with 83% items collected on veteran, but when I check the Wii calender and add up the time it was closer to 20 hours. Basically I think the in game clock does not count time for cut scenes, menus, dying and restarting. Right now on my second run through skipping all the cut scenes I feel like I will probably clock in around 5 hours at the end of the game. Of course the lack of scanning will help that time. I would not be surprised to see a speed run of around 2 hours or less for this game.

Sorry, I just bought the screenshot tool last night and went a little nuts with it at Elysia. It's too bad those pics are so small, though, as they don't really convey the beauty of that place. I sent 3 because I didn't realize I took so many pictures that the Wii message board shunted some off to a second page. The last one I sent you was the best and I didn't see that till the end. I figured of all the people on my list you'd appreciate it the most, having not started the game just yet (but with an interest in playing it). At least it wasn't pr0n from Strell...
On a separate note, why the fuck doesn't Nintendo let you send pictures to email addresses? I wanted to send some shots to my email so I could post them here and it doesn't allow that. Yet, I think you can send pictures via email to the Wii. Wierd...

I beat the ice guy in one level. (fire level?) and there's a door I can't get through after that.
And in the jungle level, I get to that big radar jamming thing, yank the handle out, and try to aquire that landing site, but it says I need a ship upgrade first...

Now that you have the ice missles, you need to go somewhere where there is gel (the yellow stuff) pouring from some holes. Fire missles at them to freeze them into platforms and hop on them. There is also the room full of gel and you can make little spots to stand on by firing missles at the surface. You may have to do that first to get to the other part, I forget. But, basically, it sounds like it is an ice missile puzzle you have to deal with at this point. When you get the ship upgraded you go back to that jammer, pull it and then quickly call your ship as you have limited time.

I have been very impressed with the graphics. The ONLY time it is disappointing to me is when you run up to a door to get it to open - the door texture gets enlarged and pixellated a bit too much.
Sure, it doesn't hold up compared to something like Bioshock in HD, but it is definitely top of the line for the Wii so far. More impressive is the fact that it has a rock solid smooth as butter framerate throughout. I haven't seen a single bit of slowdown - something that can't be said for many 360 games.
By the way, for those wondering about the default controls, I finally got around to switching mine last night. The default is "standard" which is the middle setting. There is also "basic" and "advanced". In both standard and advanced auto-aim is turned off by default as well. I switched to advanced and to be honest didn't see much of a difference between that and standard. Also, I am finding that except for the ability to strafe/dash in certain boss battles the lock-on is more of a hinderance that a help (in that it disengages frequently which just gets confusing as you either need to re-lock or go to free-look anyway). I end up using completely free aiming for many of the fights.
Coolest little touch in the game so far for me - the little wheeled maintainance robots in Sky Town. Just walk right up to one of those guys and watch him to see the way they scoot around using their one leg like a skateboarder. It is nice little subtle touches like this that help make the game more immersive. And I want one of those for my house ;).

Hopefully it will continue! I love the way scanning works now, after I figured it out. Highlighting everything is much easier to interpret than orange and red boxes, especially at a distance.
I don't know if I should spoiler this or not for people who haven't played it at all, but what the hell (general question about what happens re: Samus as the game progresses): Does Samus lose all her power-ups soon after the start of the game? Or does she just start off with more than the basic beam this time (morph ball + missilies, at least) and recover things as usual? I was surprised I could do all this stuff right from the start.

Yeah, it will become fairly obvious by the obstacles and inoperable doors you run into what those upgrades will be. No huge spoiler here as they come very early - one of the first upgrades is the ice missiles (opens white doors among other things). I also like that you don't have to switch between a bunch of different beams and weapon types like in the first game. At least so far I haven't and I just got a few more upgrades (including a new main beam type).

You still get yellow tokens, but friend vouchers are a one time only thing. But don't worry about the friend credits, you can use a new save file to make more because it allows you to assign friend vouchers received to any save file.
You should have been awarded a yellow token for beating the first boss on the ship and the boss on Norion.

Yeah I remember getting them for those on normal, but I didn't get any on the replay on veteran. Do I have to play it in hyper mode to get anymore yellows? I'm pretty sure I'll die a lot in that mode and give up :-P

While I would say that I'm enjoying it the most of the series thus far (probably played 11 hours or so, but much less "game time" since a good bit was spent dyign repeatedly on one boss), I would still say that someone who didn't like the first 2 games won't be swayed by this.

Can someone tell me where it is?This part gave me pause as well. you'll reach a dead end where you need the grapple beam to go across the way and down a bit to reach a door. To the left of the gap is a wall with little bugs, etc. There's a small spot around there to bomb as the morph ball to get access to that wall and get over to the other side.

I thought I had reached a glitch in the game for a while when getting to this part. I thought the game had let me get to a spot that I could not get back out of. It took me about an hour to figure out what to do. I was pretty embarassed once I figured it out - it seemed so obvious.

Finished up Norion, stopped after getting to Bryyo.
I can't say I was thrilled with the little timed event thrown in there, but luckily when I died (couldn't for the life of me figure out where I was going) it put an extra minute back on the clock when I restarted.
Boss fight was awesome. Took me far too long to figure out how to stop Ridley from smacking me around when we were up close, so I finished it with a whole 30 life left. Though I guess I had an energy pack or two in reserve, never really felt like finding out how that stuff works.

I'm on my...2nd playthrough of the game. Not having to scan everything makes this game go by FAST. I still need a third playthrough to get 1 final scan though :( but I'll do it to get it, but that's about it.
It's the first time I've gotten 100% in a Metroid game. I also have to believe that this is the most enjoyable gaming experience I've had...ever. I can't think of a game that challenged me as much, was easy to play, and astounded me more than this game, from my initial playthrough on Veteran difficulty.
I played Bioshock, and liked it. But, I guess when I go into a game questioning its' greatness, and it is great, I enjoy it more.

Put in a 4:45 marathon this evening. Got through the first two bosses in Sky City (man is that place sweet looking) and the back tracking to get the screw attack and saved after doing the 2nd ship upgrade.
Wasted some time backtracking on Norion and checking out the Valhalla that popped up randomly though I couldn't do much there with only 1 energy cell found thus far.
Amazing game so far. And it does look like Mogenar might just have been a fluke for me to struggle with him so long, as I beat the next 2 bosses each on my first try.

Got through Bryyo last night and onto Sky City. Only took me one try to get through Mogenar, luckily, though it was a pretty fun battle. The game just has much more slow and deliberate and patient battles than I'm used to.
Only got as far as to get the boost ball, then backtracked to a save point cause it was late. And now that I'm reading a game guide, I didn't backtrack at all, apparently I need to go that direction to fight Ghor.

Well I'm in the last area after a couple hours of play before bed last night. I like all the action near the end. It feels very rewarding. And sorry to anyone who I haven't been able to send vouchers to. I just don't have enough and I think I exchanged friend codes with too many people. I'll try to compensate by making a new save or something.
So I'm really considering trading this when I'm done, since with EBstop's 40% stacking deal I pretty much get all my credit back. I haven't decided if I wanted to play through it more than once yet, but I'm leaning towards no and picking up later down the line cheap.

Just finished the game on Veteran. Took me 19:50, and I got 100% completion. Got all the way to 98/100 pickups on my own, but the last two were giving me a huge amount of trouble. I broke down and looked up where they were after a few hours of wandering around like an idiot. =\ Not ashamed I did though, because one of them I never would've found in a million years.
Overall, I really really enjoyed the game. I was extremely skeptical of the game coming into it, but I left a satisfied customer. I pretty much agree with everything Mr Durand Pierre (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showpost.php?p=3312727&postcount=1160) said, Metroid Prime 2 is probably the best to me, but I would probably rank the first game above 3. So, MP3 is my least favorite, but that is in no way a bad thing. These games are incredible.
Somewhere down the line I will play all three games through on hard/hyper mode in a row, but that will probably have to wait until next year. Until then, I will savor the fun I have had with Metroid Prime 3.
P.S. The graphics in this game are fabulous. Other developers should be ashamed of themselves for churning out ugly-ass games on the Wii.
Did another marathon session Thursday night. I've finished with Elysia and still no damn spider ball. When the hell do you get that? After finding the super-maps (the ones that show where pickups are) I headed back to Bryyo and Norion and encountered multiple spider ball puzzles. I really couldn't get many pickups in those places. It turns out I got most of them already except for these spider ball ones... I'm well into the next portion (won't spoil the name/location) and just got the X-ray visor. I just started last night. I finished the first section and got in my ship and headed to a place called Norion. It's pretty good so far but there is A LOT of scanning and the controls definitely take some getting used to. Also, pulling the wiimote towards me never seems to work on the first try but I do like the interaction with door locks and levers and buttons and stuff. Yeah, the default is standard.
Advanced works the same but the aiming is much more sensitive (i.e. there's not much of a bounding box in the middle) and turning is faster.

The key thing with the level pulling and other things (there will be a lot more later) is that it is NOT motion sensor based but IR-based. So if you keep the remote pointed at the dead center of the screen they all work perfectly. If you start to waggle around you lose contact with the IR sensor and it doesn't work. I think most people start waving furiously the first few times (I did too). It is really a more precise system once you figure it out.
Glad you've joined the party Javeryh. I think you'll agree with me that this game is about as close as you can come to HD-simulated-like-quality on a non-HD system...

If you wants the bobblehead, ship stickers, screen shot tool, the dioramas and a few of the concept art packs, then, yes, you do. I would certainly recommend getting 6 vouchers at a minimum so you can get the first 3 items.
A question for those who have gotten pretty far into the Valhalla:
I just got 2 more enegery cells from the Pirate Home World and have 2 (or possibly 3) more to find (one on Bryyo - I think I know where I just can't figure it out. Don't want a spoiler on that yet, so please don't say anything ;)). The thing is, I have 2 choices as to where to use the 2 cells I now have. I've gone a little in both directions in the Valhalla and can use the 2 cells either in the power generator thingy, or to lower the ramp on the other side of the ship. Without spoiling anything, does anyone know which is the more interesting destination? I plan to find the other 2 eventually and do both of course, but which would be good to visit first?

It doesn't matter. All the extraneous paths in Valhalla lead to extra missile and ship missile upgrades. There is also one energy tank somewhere, I think in a morph ball puzzle. You don't even need all nine to get what you NEED from the Valhalla. I think 4 of the cells are just for shits and giggles. Translation: more extra missiles and a couple of scans.
Oh, and for what you DIDN'T want a spoiler on, regrading Bryyo, if you get frustrated looking for it, I've got a help spoiler a few pages back (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showpost.php?p=3302748&postcount=1055) you'll want to read. Trust me, it's arguably the most convoluted puzzle in the game, and the only part of the whole game I hated.
I started my slow but gradual hyper mode playthough. Yes, you earn more yellow credits for boss fights, red phazees, and events, but all scan tokens and friend vouchers are once-per-file only. I'll give away any extra vouchers I might have missed; that post in the friend voucher thread with the list will be very helpful! But I missed #1 twice now. :bomb:
Oh, and for what you DIDN'T want a spoiler on, regrading Bryyo, if you get frustrated looking for it, I've got a help spoiler a few pages back (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showpost.php?p=3302748&postcount=1055) you'll want to read. Trust me, it's arguably the most convoluted puzzle in the game, and the only part of the whole game I hated.
Don't want to go there just yet, but does it have something to do with the large generator that you can lift with your ship and move somewhere (or so the scan said)?
Never mind - figured it out on my own. It wasn't that hard, really. There isn't much else you can do with that stuff. The only thing that threw me off was I thought for a while I needed a new weapon for that one part, but it turned out to be something else you do instead...
Another marathon session Friday night put me at about 18 hours and 87% done. Got the spiderball and hazard suit. Went back and got nearly all the pickups from the earlier places, except one that still says my suit isn't upgraded enough for it. I don't have much left so I'm not sure what it could be. I also got all the power cells and did everything in Valhalla except for that last door I can't get through yet.

It is really a more precise system once you figure it out... Thanks, that helps. At least it would, exept I already battledthe first boss that was a corrupted[?] hunter. I died like four times because I couldn't get the grapple beam to work.(spoiler for first 10-15% or so)

(Spoilers through 2nd boss in Skytown.)
Alright, yesterday I just hit a very small part of the game that probably wasn't supposed to be a problem, but something with the controls was weird and it took me as long to do it as to beat Ghor. The freaking half-pipe. Literally, took me 10 minutes to figure out the timing.
Also, did anyone else think it was even slightly sad to see your ship in such beat up shape? it just looked kind of pathetic, hobbling back down to the landing pad..

Just beat Elysia. Saved just at the start of the Pirate Homeworld. This game is fantastic and makes me realize that if it had to be one or the other, Prime 3 over Bioshock was the correct answer.

I haven't gotten to play this as much as I'd like this past week but hopefully tonight I can get some action in. You know this game is good if it is keeping me from playing Bioshock....!

Ah, well, grapple beam IS motion-based as it is using the nunchuk. I was talking more about the switch/control panel puzzles as being pointer-based. The grapple beam fighting can get frustrating when going up against Metroid Hatchers where you need to shoot them a bunch then pull off their tentacles and if you don't do it quickly you have to shoot them all over again. And all the while Metroids are trying to suck your face... .

Ugh, not what I want to hear. The grapple is easily one of the most annoying things I've had to deal with in the game even through the first couple fights.

Oops. Anyway, there were times where I got real close to my tv, grappled, and exended past my couch and it wouldn't work. Needless to say that boss made me really pissed.

Is there any way to get around the "send friend vouchers to unlock things" system? Because that's just a wee bit impossible for me, and I sure as hell don't want to miss out on anything...

There's a list somewhere of some actions you can perform to get green vouchers, but a lot seem to be on the difficult end.

Beat the game. Download a save and replace it with your own.

I am stuck in the part in bryyon where when you use the scan visor it says "security system is active, and a round object can fit here". I know it's the morph ball, but how do I get up there. I went to the door, scanned and it says it's locked. Please help:cry:. BTW, any other places i might get stuck in the planet?

I am not 100% sure on this, as I'm further away then that..but if it's where i THINK you are at..then try this:
Go into a morph ball, and set a bomb. It should pop you up right in there..then drop a bomb in there
Again if it's not, I do apologize. Hope that helped !

Alrighty, thanks.
Blackbird, I haven't played, but I'd guess you should try (bomb) jumping. If it works, I'm awesome.

Oops. Anyway, there were times where I got real close to my tv, grappled, and extended past my couch and it wouldn't work. Needless to say that boss made me really pissed. The trick is short, snapping motions. Flick the nunchuk to cast the grapple, be really still while it's attaching, and the snap your wrist up quickly and deliberately. You really need to be still while it's grabbing on, because I think once it's attached, it sets the reference point to whever the nunchuck is at that moment. In other words, if you tilt the nunchuk back too early, you'll have to flick it even farther backward for it to register.
Another marathon session and I'm 95% done with just the last part left. Unfortuntely, from the Gamespot walkthrough it seems I'm past all the possible locations for pickups and I still have 5 left . By the way, I got a message at 75% that I unlocked a better ending. Apparently, according to Gamespot, 100% gets you an even better one (unless they are wrong and 75% is all you need). For those who want to do a lot but not obsess over 100%, though, 75% is a nice goal.
I know I've cleared out Norion, Bryyo, and Elysia. So where the hell are those last 5? I guess they would have to be on the Pirate Homeworld (as I'm fairly certain I've cleared out the Valhalla too). Though it seems like I wouldn't have missed that many there.
Anyway, I'm over 20 hours now. I can't see how some of you got such low times, especially if you got 100%. I could see it being much faster if you didn't scan everything and didn't go back for any pickups (I also revisited the Vahalla several times - each time I got a new energy cell - you could save time by waiting till near the end on that of course). But trying for a complete scan set (except I apparently fucking missed a lore on the Olympus, dammit) and 100% of the pickups is fairly time consuming.

I finished this the other night. I think I'm gonna trade it in today while that EB 40% deal is still going. It was great but I just don't think I'm going to play it again.

There were a couple on Bryyo that I forgot about until I actually went back to that damned 'secret' area. You've already activated the map systems for all the planets to check your completion? Also, on the Valhalla, did you get the missile pack in the elevator room?
