Announced at an event in Cannes.
I've said it before, but if Ubi can avoid rushing it out the door, I have high hopes for this one. Reworked swordplay, rumored online mode.

I think they need a different development studio. It wasn't a lack of time, it was a lack of talent that made the first game.

I had a lot of fun with the first game, but that required overlooking or ignoring some flaws that were certainly fixable (graphical glitches, the disconnect between sword and gun play).

The first was fun, but they need to (and should) make huge strides with the gameplay mechanics. I'm glad they are staying with it, and hopefully ubi's strong early support is generating much-needed experience to make games that make the control system shine.

The first game had a lot of potential. But it was bricked up against a wall time-wise (HAD to be a launch title) and talent wise. Not necessarily that the people who made it were incompetent but that everything was so new. When you're trying to make an ambitious game like Red Steel while Nintendo is still finalizing things for there too-be-release system, it's gonna get sloppy somewhere.
I look forward to see what they can do with it a sequel. Maybe it'll borrow some control from MP3.

No one knows why the first game sucked. I tend to think that it had something to do with the rush to get it out for launch. Hell didn't Ubisoft admit as much?
The first game had that glimmer of potential so if they apply themselves this time who knows how good it could turn out.

Same here. Great game, but needed an extra 5-8 months of polishing.
I got high hopes for the sequel.

I had to remember it was a launch title and the lag/controll issues there was. Overall it was a good first attempt and I can't wait for a sequal if they fix those problems.

Red Steel 1 just wasn't a good game.
It was the first shown wii game, and it was one of the few non-port launch games. It had talent and time.
I only played multiplayer, but by watching the singleplayer for an hour, it just seemed like there was nothing to it except the controls. In its defense, there still haven't been perfected for Wii FPS's.

I agree. It needed much more polish, but what they had convinced me that Wii is excellent for the FPS genre.

They were lucky to sell so many copies because of hype that they can make a sequel.
I expect it to be much, much better.

I'm torn on Red Steel 1, actually. It was great fun, and more time would have only improved it. What I am worried about is the level design. Thankfully, they didn't go the way of Halo when faced with a brick-wall-deadline and copy-paste rooms endlessly to make gameplay length. But there weren't many times I was impressed with its levels. They were mostly vanilla. So I dunno if RS2 will be a delicacy, or simply be a filling, tasty morsel.

I thought the first one was pretty average (about a 7.0-7.5 game) that needed about 6 more months in development. Hopefully the next one wont be rushed.

Completely agree with you guys.
I thought the game was a lot of fun, and most importantly, showed how IMPORTANT that additional immersive aspect can be in the FPS genre. That game was a boatload of promising signs. It obviously had some issues in how it was all executed, but for the most part, it was more than sufficient. I thought sword play was a lot of fun (and surely that will only improve), I thought the implemented gestures were VERY well done, and beyond the infamous turning glitch when the reticle moves out of the bounding box, the pointing/aiming of the guns and the zooming were incredible additions to the FPS experience.
So like you guys said, this is a game that really deserves a sequel, and one that will surely receive a sequel. When all it would take to make a game truly AWESOME is a bit more polish and dev time, there's no excuse for not giving it another shot in a more ideal situation (no launch date to rush for, more experience with the technology, etc).

How did you guys get through the first game? The little aiming dot thing kept snapping back to the middle of the screen during gunfights. Did noone else have that problem?

All the time.
Usually, if I just move around the room a little, I can find the right spot where that isn't as bad.

I enjoyed the first one despite it's flaws, hopefully the development team learns something from Capcom (RE4) and make Red Steel 2 awesome.
