We tried making games for all 15 of those minutes. Me and choppa and always join each other's games, but Zin can't ever join and we can't join his, so we gave up. It works on occasion, just not that night.

I've got an 8GB usb drive on the way. It's replacing a 4GB that I keep programs on in case I need them for fixing computers. As it stands, I managed to fill up the 4GB to the brim and still found that I needed several more gigs of space for programs, updates, and various ISOs.

I'm probably going to turn the 4GB into a walking ISO zombie with Starcraft and Broodwar leading the way, followed closely by several small freeware games and some abandonware.

Eventually, I'll probably buy a 16GB usb drive and carry a full Lucasarts library with me at all times.

Until then, stfu. I don't care to deal with it.

Round 1: Me (Protoss) Vs Jarvis (Zerg) on Lost Temple|
We're equally rusty at this point, I figure. I get the NE start point, and Jarvis the N. I tried my standard 10gate 12gate build, but fucked it up and instead did something more like 10gate 14/15gate. Despite my mistake, and despite Jarvis' scouting, he was still woefully unprepared for my first two Zealots. They arrived before he had any Zerglings, and just as his very first sunken was coming in. With a steady stream of men on my side and nothing but slow-building static defences on his side, it was an easy win.

Round 2: Me (Protoss) Vs Jarvis (Zerg) on Lost Temple|
A rematch. Same start for me, but Jarvis had S this time. I didn't fuck up my standard build, but my men got split up en route to his base (which is the hardest place on that map to rush), and got my ass kicked. I ended up leaving 4 Zealots at his ramp while I built up. I expanded and sent one of my Zealots deeper into to his base to scout - and saw a half-built Spire. Goon and Corsair pumping commenced, and a series of battles took place between his Mutas and my anti-air in my main base and at my expo. He never took his natural, but I did eventually push out, find, and destroy expansions he had in the north base and its natural. He surrendered after I destroyed his second expansion.

Round 3: Me (Protoss) Vs Jarvis (Zerg) Vs Jarvis' Friend Adolfo (Terran) on Lost Temple|
All three races represented here. This was a good FFA. Adolfo attacked Jarvis' expansion with his M&Ms, Jarvis attacked me with his Lurkers, and I harassed Adolfo with my Dark Templar.
However, after a royal ass-forking from Jarvis' Lurkers (I had sent all my Obs away) and some of Adolfo's cliffed tanks killed most of my economy, it was war time. I gathered 4 control groups worth of Zealots, Goons, and Observers and launched 'em at Jarvis' base in the SW - glorious victory. After a minute of rebuilding, I did the same to Adolfo in the NE. Win.

Round 4: Me (Protoss) Vs Jarvis (Zerg) Vs Adolfo (Terran) on Fastest|
Adolfo requested to pick the map on this one. We have decided that he never gets to again.
Adolfo struck first (I think - couldn't see Jarvis), sending about a billion M&M&F towards my base. Fortunately, he had neglected to make a scanner, and they were repelled by two Dark Templar (OHKO against Marines). I built a couple of groups of my standard units - Goons and Zealots - and launched them at Adolfo. Apparently angered by the map choice, Jarvis sent about ten of his Lurkers to his base at the exact same time. Jarvis attacked the NW of the base while I went for the SE, though I eventually retreated because Lurkers are scawy.
Anyway, after killing the Lurkers that chased me back to my base, I massed Carriers. Pretty much just GG from there. To be fair, Jarvis wasn't actually trying at that point.

Round 5: Me (Protoss) Vs Jarvis (Zerg) Vs Adolfo (Zerg) on Lost Temple|
Here's a lesson - when I say "I should get to bed" in the channel, that means I'm rushing. And that's exactly what I did. Caught Jarvis teching. Looking at the replay, I see that Adolfo had the same idea, and had a few Zerglings moving to his base when he surrendered. He re-rerouted them to me, but my Zealots returned before they made it. Built 2 Dragoons and an Observer and killed Adolfo's roving Hydralisks. He surrendered before I hit his ramp. Game over in ten minutes and four seconds.

- it's 9 on LT that is hardest to rush
- if you're losing as Zerg because you're teching, you're not getting enough sunkens and/or you're teching too fast
- if you have no zerglings when a protoss has two zealots, something is wrong with your build order (going 12 hatch when players are at 12 and 3 on LT is very risky since those bases are very close to each other)
- no point in not taking your natural
- LT sucks

just a few thoughts :lol:

and some bonus:
- marines with +1 armor can take 2 hits from a DT with +0 attack
- zealots with +1 attack can kill a zergling with 2 hits rather than 3 hits with +0 (upgrades are very important in pvz for both races)
- one psi storm + one dragoon hit will kill a lurker

Lost last night's game. My own buildings restricted my Dragoon's movement, so even when I saw Jarvis' drops coming, I couldn't do anything about it. On the plus side, my High Templar racked up about a billion kills.- it's 9 on LT that is hardest to rushWeird. I've always had more trouble with 6. Or 7. Or... 6:30. Or whatever the hell that is.

And you're absolutely right about upgrades in PvZ. Zealot attack Vs Ling armour is the textbook example, but you had god damn better have some upgraded armour and shielding when Crax get put out on the field. In PvT, I don't even bother with armour upgrades. +1 to shields doesn't help much when the enemy does 80 damage or some shit.

it's probably best to use different builds each game instead of having your opponent know what you're going to do before the game even starts... well it doesn't have to be TOTALLY different builds, but like, have some variety

as protoss you could:
forge fast expand into dt/corsair, reaver/corsair, or just straight up zealots/goons/ht/archons
1 gate (2 zealot 1 goon blocking ramp) into 1 stargate sair
2 gate zealot rush into zealots/goons/ht/archons
3 gate speedlots /w +1 attack

as zerg you could:
9 pool speedling
3 hatch ling
3 hatch hydra timing attack (I usually see this since I like to forge FE)
2 hatch muta

or something like that, haha, I don't really have the greatest grasp on builds but you get the idea

I mainly run on variations of these two builds. I'll occasionally do forge first FE if I'm just dicking around.

These days, my rush is done more to keep Jarvis on his toes and to make him use minerals and Drones making static defences than it is to actually kill him.

Curiously, I've never made a serious attempt at Corsairs/DT. Jarvis works pretty damn hard to keep my Corsairs at bay most of the time, so deploying many DT just wouldn't be worth it.

it's essential to use CPU Savior to reduce CPU usage

also LAN Lantecy is awesome, cause you can eliminate all lag that comes from playing on b.net as if you're playing on a LAN. Basically you put a #LL at the end of the game name, and your game will have LAN latency. Anyone that doesn't have chaoslauncher with LAN Latency turned on will be dropped from the game

yep, that is indeed the way. Does it look bad because the laptop is widescreen? It's going to depend on which video card you have on there, but you can make it so SC isn't stretched out. I got a 8600M GT in my laptop, and I go to the NVIDIA control panel, hit the Change Flat Panel Scaling link, and choose the Nvidia scaling with fixed aspect ratio option. A friend's laptop with a 8400GS didn't have this option, I don't think.

No tournament anymore, sorry. We only did the one, and Oktoberfest pretty much kicked everyone's ass (though the Jarvis Vs Phoom games were fucking awesome to watch). It's just informal games now. I'd love to play right now, but SC has decided that it wants to be a fucking prick about things and not install the latest patch. basically I had the problem where I would get some error talking about an .mpq file when I try to update through bnet. Manual patching will get me an error with StarEdit.exe. My solution was to update through bnet with chaoslauncher on (weird, I know)

Actually, my main suggestion to you is to play Protoss, so I have a better understanding of what it is that you're doing. I don't know the proper timing for Terran builds at all.

After I learned about the BS mineral hacks that were rampant in SC, I stopped playing. for kicks, I reinstalled SC. and noted in the .15 or .16 patch that they fixed it.

I may start playing again for a while.. that or I'll load up Warcraft III. I miss RTS games...

my disks were too scratched to install so i downloaded the full version off the blizzard store. i cannot update to 1.16 though. when i try to update by logging onto battle.net it fails. the standalone patch utility doesn't do anything for me. anyone have any clues on this?

After my upgrade to 1.16 on my vista machine, it complains that it can't identify the version, and I'm unable to log into Battle.net.

I'm pretty sure my Xp laptop does the same thing. It seems like the issue is not isolated to a few people... hopefully they'll issue a new patch to correct the problem.

hmm, look on the previous page for a possible solution I posted. It basically involves going onto battle.net to patch while using chaoslauncher to launch the game

The reason I say this is because I had pretty much the same problem when trying to patch to 1.15.3 and using chaoslauncher solved it for me.

Me and Zinrae+that crew some of you know, have been having great fun with WH40k Soulstorm. Mechanics are a little different, but good fun all the same.

So, looking for a decent RTS, try it out. The biggest difference IMO is the units have much more life, so battles last longer. I don't personally like that, but it doesn't ruin the game by any means.

I got a hankerin' to play some Starcraft over thanksgiving, and found out that my Windows 7 desktop isn't fully compatible. It'll play, but the colors are all wrong.

I'm thinking I'll try the full on XP compatibility mode (which is basically a well integrated XP VM) and see if I can get it working. Otherwise, I'll just repartition my drive and set up XP for the times I want to play ancient games.

I decided to pick up Warcraft III frozen throne again because I SC was busted.. if anyone's game to play that I'm battle.chicken there.. I think i've been playing on East.

I found that thread before I decided to try XP mode to fix the issues; But, ya' know.. I never actually tried to launch the game..! I stopped when all the menu screens had the color issues.

I'll reinstall in windows 7 this evening and see if I get the wonky colors in a skirmish or something. If I don't, I'll pop on and see who might be around.

If anyone's got links to solid map packs that you all use when you play, I'll pull those down ahead of time so I don't have to download them.

Protoss are the no joke race. Play them fast and they can be quite devastating.

I like playing SC a great deal but I get the most enjoyment from playing it at LAN parties. I like to meet my opponents in real life. Must be the table top gamer in me.

You're not the only one. Almost every RTS after SC has that button now. So sometimes I find myself playing SC and wondering why my workers are so quiet...right before I get annihilated.
