Alright, so there are two real purposes for this thread now: to encourage Raymond and Darren to finish their fucking games, and to arrange new games. Since the old list(s) no longer exist, please post your Bnet name somewhere in this thread. No, I don't care if it's the exact same as your CAG name, or if we play together regularly. Just do it.

1: Lost a Race War with some Penny Arcade guys. Kinda hard when I'm playing a different race (Terran) and don't have any allies.
2: Represented CAG well, winning two 1v1s with a Penny Arcade Zerg. He was slow with his pool in the first game, and I contained him with Dark Templar, Corsairs, and Archons in the second.
3: Looking good, Oktober. We can change maps every time we move on in the tournament. Or vote on them. Or random all the way. Whatever. Thanks again for putting up the maps.

Edit: As it turns out, I was right about Paranoid Android. A fixed version can be found here (http://broodwar.ingame.de/kommentare.php?newsid=68226#comments). Just click on the image to download it. I watched the replay of my game with DARRENC, and wondered how the hell his mineral count was so much higher than mine early on. Then I looked at the location of the mineral lines for the 1 and 2 positions. Then it all made sense.

The new version also includes an observer map.

k it's been updated with new version of PA. You should go ahead and download it again Crotch since I renamed the map for consistency

Also, I say the map pool should be like four to six maps, or maybe even three maps since the tourney might be best out of three and then we could just play those three maps and have a set "game 3 map" to avoid deciding which maps to play during a round. Or like have what Crotch mentioned and have different maps in different rounds

So just say what maps y'all like and I'll see what the general consensus is on the maps, or if there are any more that you strongly recommend

Also, as far as the tourney is concerned, it might be too early to ask, but, should it be like single elimination or double elimination or round robin or what?

If we're going to pick three maps per round, I'm gonna (tentatively) go with Paranoid Android2.0 for the first round, Velocity for the second, and Azalea for the third. Though I still like my idea of having a different map for each level.

I would prefer either single or double elimination.

Edit: If we do double elimination, there is no way in hell every game will be best of 3. Only the final/last couple of games could be best of three.

Paranoid Android is in for sure. It gives Zerg scouting a wee bit of an edge, but it's still a neat map. I'm liking Azalea, Gaia, and Python, so they are definitely in for the 2v2. Velocity is good. I dislike Monty Hall, and BlitzX - though the latter is not as bad as the former. Longinus and Reverse Temple - close enough to LT - are... alright. I'd like to save Luna for 2v2.

Oh yeah, it's pretty f-ing insane and fun. But usually dwindles down into: You control Protoss, I'll control Zerg, and you control Terran.

Ya, generally the strategy is "I'll run the protoss base, you run the zerg base" but I would love to do some 4 on 4s like Strell suggested. It makes for some amazing micromanagement.

I have only ever played something like that in Age of Empires 2, though you could only do it for one civilization. It was quite neat. I would definitely be up for it in SC. Beats some fucking Penny Arcade Race War.

Darthbudge and I tried out Monty Hall yesterday and we both think it should be taken out of the map pack. The main problem are those mineral walls everywhere. They make it a little to easy to turtle. The other maps seem fine so far although I still haven't played on all of them.

Hey you know there's a trick with those mineral walls, you get two workers to mine the same mineral patch. While they're stacked on top of each other, you order one to move to the area behind the minerals and the worker will go THROUGH the minerals (allowing for a fast expansion). Pros do it all the time. But like I said, the map is probably too advanced for us

Oktoberfest, I'll upload your current map pack to my server. For the finished site, the plan is to make it so maps, replays, and other files can be uploaded by registered league members.

Googling around, and rereading the info on Battle.net, it looks like the site and database might have to be created before an LDK can be received.

I've just spent a lot of time looking for a good CMS (content management system) for our needs, but haven't come up with much. The perfect script shouldn't be too big, but if it comes down to it, I'll use one of the big, all-purpose ones. A lot of sites seem to use custom CMSes, which doesn't do me any good. Most of the gaming-specific CMSes are for news sites or FPSes, and the one StarCraft-specific script I found can't be downloaded anymore. I did find a Battle.net specific one, but the documentation is crap and the customization options don't seem to be all that.

So I'm still looking around and testing things I find promising. If I don't find an all-purpose CMS that works out, I'll look into using a small group of scripts (Gallery (http://gallery.menalto.com/node/53079) might be good for uploads [I've used it before and it's awesome] but I'm not sure about the rest). The advantage of a CMS, however, is that it would use one login for everything.

Or we could wait on Blizzard, if they really are just lagging on getting the LDKs out...

I wish I would of checked into CAG for general discussion on PC Games a lot sooner, there's a lot of great discussion going on in this forum. I'd love to join the CAG league. I don't know if I'd be available for the tournament on the 8th though, as I won't be free until that night.

But I'd love to play with you guys. Keep in mind that I'm not that great. For a frame of reference, since the EB sale I recently bought the Battle Chest and I've just finished the original SC on single player mode again yet when I play online against people that's a whole new level.

I'm getting better but I really suck at microing my units. I'm the guy that tries to use storm on mutalisks but by the time I get the spell off they are in a different location and I hit my own men instead.

I'm still trying to get used to the units on BW.

2: UMS (Use Map Settings) games are online games that do not really resemble regular matches at all. Turret D, Smash Bros., Micro Maps, Hostage Negotiation, etc.
3: I just re-beat the vanilla campaign myself. Every time, Zeratul and Tassadar just get that much better.

Little update on the site stuff:

Site Status

After much noodling around, I finally found an excellent script (http://www.proclanmanager.com/) to run the backend of the site. There's some cosmetic tweaks to be done here and there (especially if you're a fellow Safari user), but for the most part, the customizations have been made and/or planned out for implementation first thing tomorrow. As The_Crotch noted in his recent update, the site will be down tomorrow morning while I finalize everything.

User Account Info

As for the features on the new site, we'll be able to keep track of matches, upload and download files, conduct polls, etc. all automatically. Unfortunately, there's no "user registration", and users have to be entered manually by an admin. However, that's the only major drawback in what I believe to be a fantastic script.

With that said, please contact me ASAP (via PM or otherwise) if you want an account, and let me know what username you would like (preferably your Battle.net name. Also note that usernames can only contain letters and/or numbers-- no special characters!). Once the new site is up and the accounts are made, I'll contact you with your account name and temporary password.

Moderators Wanted

Speaking of members, I'm now taking names of people who would be interested in becoming site moderators. Mods would be able to post news, events (ie., tournaments), and polls in addition to the regular user features of being able to upload files and screenshots. I figure we'll need three mods at the most. Also, I'm considering extending account creation to mods, but want to see how things go at first. (ETA: Darthbudge and The Crotch have been made mods. I think this should be fine for right now.)

I would like to also point out that if you are having trouble hosting games on Bnet (and opening router ports (http://www.portforward.com) doesn't help), you and your opponent can play a game through a virtual LAN through the program Hamachi (https://secure.logmein.com/products/hamachi/vpn.asp?lang=en) (download the free version). Make your own server and password and tell others the server name and password and have them join it. Then go to the LAN (UDP) multiplayer option in Starcraft and you'll be able to make games and others will be able to join. I've been using this with my friends for the past few months with success most of the time.

(If you find that people can't "see" your games, have everyone restart their Hamachi client)

We went to the French River (near Sudbury) and stayed in a lodge (http://www.cranes-lochavenlodge.com/) up there - it was a very nice, relaxing vacation away from the ringing phones and television sets. The last full day we had there, I managed to catch a fat 40" northern pike - weighed somewhere around 20-22 lbs. Also managed to catch up on reading (Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad... excellent read) and play through some Pheonix Wright (up to case 4!)

i never felt i had the upperhand in that match. early on you killed all my overlords and i had to defend after that. i did feel i made some very poor mistakes though. at the end when you attacked, i had a ton of gas and i never built any scourges.

i guess it was close when we traded expos, but i never really thought i had a legit chance after my overlords were killed. i've never had a zerg player fly scourges into my overlords before. very well played on your part.

Is it to early to start asking about the 2nd round map? Personally, I'll like to see more 4 player maps and less 2 player maps being chosen. I like the extra bit of randomness in a 1v1 on a 4 player map. Plus, I've played those a lot more then 2 player maps. I guess I'm just more use to them.

Well, I lost, as predicted. But the good news is that I lasted longer than 10 minutes (my goal) to 15 minutes.

At first I was contemplating playing random hoping it would make him hesitate to build a certain way until he knew what I was doing, but then I knew it wouldn't help me anyway so I went Zerg. Oktoberfest (DarrenC) was Protoss.

I knew Oktoberfest was coming at me fast, so I tried to get some sunken colonies for defense. But he is very good at micromanaging and kept me occupied with his dragoons. I was able to slow his initial attack with zerglings but he kept whittling away at me. First taking out my Hydra Den, and then my Spawning Pool and the last of my sunken colonies.

So no Spawing Pool and I was a sitting duck, though I did have another expansion (very small one) going in the south. But its death was only inevitable. A couple of minutes later and he brought the whole army, dark templars, Archons, everyone. I did have one sunken colony for defense, lol. After suffering more casualties I told my last drone and zergling to "Run for your lives!" But they had no way out as the choke was blocked, so they looked at each other and jumped off the cliff to their deaths, 'Thelma and Louise' style.

Ok guys, have a very basic question because I was getting frustrated today when playing with Terran. How do you fight effectively with Marines and Medics?

Here's what was happening to me. I would select a group of 12 consisting of M&Ms. Hit 'A' and then a spot on the mini map. Well the marines would stop and attack on the way while the medics would go to that spot first, then stop, and then if close to a marine then heal. And then because of this they would be in between the marines and the enemy and then get killed pretty easily. Those that weren't dead were healing eachother instead of the marines!

Another case is that I had a group of M&Ms guarding a spot on my base so I had them 'hold ground' at the choke point. Well the marines did fine but the medics just stood there. I guess I should of just had the marines held ground but I figured the medics would do something since they were right there next to the marines. Uggh.

Any tips on how I should handle this?

Rperez, I have the same problems with medics, especially during attacks, because they move faster than marines and seem to have better path finding. So what ultimately happens is they'll rush a base and then just stand there, healing each other while a sunken/cannon slowly kills them. Then my marines show up with no healing support. I'm still working on this, but only option appears to be micromanagement.

Crotch, I will be gone until (at the earliest) 10:30 my time (9:30 for you). That is around the time I normally get on, so I don't imagine this to be a problem. Feel free to PM if needed. I'll respond if I can.

High Templar have the same problem as Medics, though their lower speed helps considerably. I suggest you just assign them to a separate hotkey. Of course, this will not work as you fill up your hotkeys, but by that point, I don't expect you'll need very many Medics.

My biggest problem - and I have complained about this pretty much every time I fight a Zerg - is just how unbelievably well Observers blend in with their surroundings. Dark Templar show up just fine - they actually look like something. But Observers? Just a little blemish on a random doodad, or a few extra stars in the background, or...

Oh, Lurkers are in my mineral line? Fuck.

set a movement point prior to your attack point with your marines/medics...

Stim the marines and attack move.. the medics will run along healing the marines as they attack, and you should have more control in their general movement -- they won't move too far IN that way.. they MAY be left too far OUT..

Remeber if you hold ctrl as you click on a unit it will select all of the same type on the screen. Sometimes I would have to do that with lurkers to make sure only they burrow. Otherwise you just have to micro it really well. That's the problem with playing terran. Of course, if you can do it then it's worth it.

I never CTRL-click unless it's on a unit's wireframe. I always just double click.

I don't know why I seemed to do much better this time than I normally do, and I've identified the mistakes I made. It seems like you could have zealot rushed at any time and I wouldn't have been able to recover. Maybe the wall actually worked? Never seems to do so until whatever happened in that game.

I still keep thinking if you hadn't found the factories on the left, I could have made about 4-6 more tanks and then began an attack, all the while manufacturing about 6 at a time. That would have been interesting. Maybe I'll get another chance.

I'll be on tonight most likely just for fun.

Everytime I had an edge I felt like I was just about to lose it and everytime you had an edge I felt like I was just about to lose the game. 1: I find team melee to be especially hard. I usually handle the army while my partner works on the economy, but it's just too hard to coordinate. I'm always worried about running into a bunch of Valkyries with Corsairs, or tanks with pure Goons or something...

2: Darthbudge is now in charge. I updated a wee bit on the website, but he should be running everything else now.

Twice I ended up cancelling buildings Mike had begun last time because I had already done it. In all fairness, his Templar Archives started all of ten seconds after mine.

I thought we were both gonna handle the army side of things. I had divided the army into two different groups - the bigger one for me to handle, the smaller, more Reaver-heavy one for him. I don't really know how well that would work, but we abandoned that idea pretty quickly.

Just got a widescreen monitor today and I'm trying to figure out how to play Starcraft in a window to preserve the proper aspect ratio. Anyone come across this problem?

Tried the '-window' and '-w' commands on the shortcut properties window and no dice. I have an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro and tried adjusting the "Catalyst Control Center' to turn off image scaling and still no luck. Any solutions?

I'm thinking that of the currently remaining loser bracket people, play should continue until there is only one of the eight remaining. Then, that one player should have to face the loser of me vs darren. And then, the winner of the game would play the loser of ikai vs (whoever wins between me and darren), with the winner of that game playing the winners-bracket winner, still with double-elimination rules in effect.

Also, are we at best-of-three yet?

Is that how things will continue? Darth, did crotch leave any sort of template on how to proceed, or are things completely your call?

And, if this league is to have continued success we need more people to play. I'm thinking, maybe we can run tourneys only for CAG players exclusively, that will take place fully in one night. If we get 16 players or so, we can run a full 1v1 tournament in a matter of a couple of hours. I would be willing to run one of these as long as we could find a good time and date to do it. But, this should be discussed more after the conclusion of this tournament.

I'm back from my two shifts of tree planting, and feeling mostly alright. Had some serious pains in my thumb, index, and middle fingers of the right hand for the first few days of planting, but only minor pain in the thumb remains. Time for some Starcraft, fuckers!

Just posting some general information. There is a nuke anywhere glitch going on in the public games. I do not know if this is okay to post, but mod this post if its not okay.

The way to do it:
1) Click on a nuke-silo and set its "invisible" rally point on the ghost.
2) Use a comstat to scan the area.
3) Select the ghost and use the nuke ability.
4) The ghost will target itself since it is far away and when the nuke falls it will fall at the rally point.

I just got nuked out of a comp stomp game, so I went and did some research. Apparently it has been around for a while, just with a recent hack, it has become easier to do. Good luck to anyone playing in public games. I think I'll just stick to private games now.

Nuke-silo has no rally point, I try to set rally point but nothing happen, however if that's what you mean by "invisible" then ok.

I scan the area, use ghost to nuke, but the ghost will run to that spot because it's too far away. Ghost won't target himself.

How do you get it to work? Or does it only work with hack?

Guys (Phoom specifically) - sorry I haven't been on in a while. I've been having a few family things to deal with and just haven't been able to get on SC for a while. I know Phoom/Kyo has messaged me a few times trying to get a game going, and I'm sorry I didn't respond in time. Darth, go ahead and give Phoom the win - he's been trying and I haven't been able to get on, so I think he deserves it.
