I am thinking about getting some of the Sonic Collections. I know Xbox has the better Sonic Mega Collection + (but what does this have diff than regular)? Also I know there is a Gems collection (which one is the best?). I would like to have the best versions of all of these collections so any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Sonic Mega Collection + is the best of them. It has Sonic 1-3, Sonic and Knuckles, Spinball, and the better Game Gear games. Gems has Sonic CD, but a lot of mediocre games beyond that.

Sonic Gems has one medicore game in Sonic CD and the rest are garbage. the Mega Collection has a ton of great games. Go with the latter.

The Game Gear games weren't all that much to scream about. Stick with Mega Collection.

The Mega Collection has all the major Genesis games and others like Sonic Spinball, 3D blast and Dr Robotnics mean Bean Machine.

The Gems collection has Sonic CD, the Figting game, Sonic Racing.

Yep can't go wrong with Sonic Mega Collection. Plus it's got a couple non Sonic games to unlock. I think they were Flicky & Ristar.

Sonic Mega Collection + on PS2 is the best, by far IMO. Sonic Gems Collection is decent too, but not as good.

The difference between Mega Collection (GameCube) and Mega Collection Plus (everything else), is that Plus includes the following additional GameGear titles:
Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic Chaos
Sonic Drift (the first time it was released in Europe and North America)
Sonic Labyrinth
Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
Sonic Blast

Plus, The Ooze and Comix Zone.

Other added features would include saving mid-game, and some extra Sonic Heroes artwork and extras on the disc to replace some of the GameCube preview movies (the awesome full-screen Sonic CD intro/ending movies seen in the GCN version were also replaced). The PS2 version has some slight emulation problems with some of the games, most notably an issue with delayed sound effects in Sonic the Hedgehog sometimes.
PC version had some really strange issues with some controllers, analog controllers would often not work at all without a 3rd party fix.

Gems collection is good if you want Sonic CD, but the rest is mediocre at best. Sonic the Fighters isn't TOO bad, and it's interesting to play such a rare game that didn't make it to most US arcades.

Just as a note, the GCN version does have The Ooze and Comix Zone, but only Japanese versions have it. All versions of the Xbox and PS2 version have it, though.

The PS2 version did have problems, as mentioned. It was due to Sonic Team not having much experience developing for the PS2. Sound was off at some points of StH and the resolution differed with the Xbox version.

If you've got a Saturn and can find it, I'd also recommend Sonic Jam just for all the extras on the disc like animated shorts featuring Sonic and Eggman.

Yeah, my eyes turned into question marks when he called one of the best Sonic games ever mediocre. I'm Sonic's friend. I would know.
