View Full Version : Help with trade: Need a Mod.

I recently did a trade with a CAG. I have 0 feedback so according to Shrike I sent him Rainbow Six Vegas and he said he would send me NBA Street Homecourt when he received Vegas. He asked me if my game was "like new" I said yes. The game plays flawlessly on my system and I've never had a problem with it since I bought it in November.
The CAG sends me a PM today stating that he received the game and that it was completely scratched up. He said he didn't try to see if it played and I found that immediately odd. I know I have 0 feedback and I must automatically look like the guilty party. He said he's going to get a Mod to help resolve this issue and I am doing the same thing by posting here. I told the CAG to call me or talk to me on AIM since using constant PMs is tedious but he declined of course because that would be off the record. (I don't blame him) I just want a mod to come in here and help me out.
He said I would have to pay the shipping back to me if the game were to be returned. I sent him a perfectly working game, and he was dissapointed. How can we resolve this?

like new and plays flawlessly are two different terms... was the game scratched when you sent it? Id say he ships it back and everyones happy?

Pictures of the disk would help a lot. Ask him for pictures.

True, I had bought a game off Ebay when the seller stated it was like new.
When I received the game, it had a lot of light scratches. According to the seller he said it played perfectly on his system so he never bothered to check the bottom of the disk. Seller appologized for this and offered a full refund (I kept it anyways, I got it at a bargain price :P).
This could possibly be a similar situation. I'd say if he's not satisfied then just ship it back as well. How would he pay shipping though? Just send it back first class, it's only around $2-3 tops.

A scratch to me has to mean that it is unplayable. I know certain people have different descriptions. A scratch for someone else could mean a little scuff. It might have been my mistake seeing as I'm new to video game trading. I just want to get this resolved. It probably was my mistake with wording but this guy is acting like I committed a crime against him.
Here's a sample of our PM. I wasn't trying to attack him or anything.

Soooo...you willing to release the name of this CAG? I'm curious for multiple reasons

Yea, I kinda hate that attitude towards shipping things back, unless of course the item is bulky and would rack up $6+ to ship back and it's fully the other person's fault.

To me a scratch is a scratch is a scratch is a scratch. Anything with a Scratch is NOT Like New. Something that you buy New has Zero Scratches. Like New to me means played but other that being opened and played it is in as good of condition like a brand new one right out of packaging.

Wait why should Ganonoslayer have to pay out of his own pocket to ship the game back? The OP said it was in "Like New" condition. Regardless if it works or not, if someone stated they were gonna send me a "Like New" game and I received a scratched up game I would pretty much be the same way.

From what I am reading here, it sounds as if the user you are dealing with is over-reacting, but I obviously don't have the full story.
I am all for making people happy, so I would suggest forking over the $2-3 if he doesn't want to keep it and getting your game back. I'm sure there are lots of CAGs who would gladly take your game in a trade... just so happens you are dealing with a CAG who likes his/her games MINT.
Hope this doesn't dissuade you from using the trade forum!

Same here.
I ALWAYS make it a point to ask about every detail before I agree on a trade. I ask about the condition of the case, manual, GAME disc, etc..
Now if he did ask those specifics and you claimed "like new", then you are at fault :/
If not, then it's just a case of miscommunication and not pointing out specifics on both sides.
As for the shipping, I would waive off $2-3 if it wasn't totally the other person's fault. Any higher than that and I'll have the other person pay for return shipping. Of course I haven't had to resort to returning any items yet *knocks on wood* <--- Of course this is the way I do things, b/c I'm a nice guy to a point.

At this point I think all there is to do is pay for the shipping, kindly ask him to forget about leaving feedback, and apologize for the mistake.
That's the only way this will end well.

I don't think it's over reacting. Why did the OP even say or use the word like "new" when clearly it was far from being like new. I could see if he said good condition or even made a mention about certain scratches on the disc but he failed to do that. I think it should be up to the seller or trader to point out any flaws the game, case, insert, or manual have before selling/trading. It really shouldn't have to be asked.
Maybe it's the way I sell, When I say something is Like New, that shit is basically in Brand New Condition other then the fact I opened and played it :D
I suggest to pay the 3.00 Shipping and get your game back. Be open and honest with everyone you deal with on the CAG Trading Forum even if they don't ask you to go into detail about the game. Basically go by the rule of thumb, Would you like to receive/purchase a game you are sending to someone else?
Good Luck :D

I agree with the "Like New" wording, but I suppose that I wouldn't be as up-tight about receiving the game with a couple LIGHT scratches. I have received games from CAGs that I weren't exactly as advertised, but I didn't pop an O-ring over it.
At this point this is all speculation though... we can go round and round all day but seeing the disc is the most relavent part now.

I never go on assumptions. It's the whole "you say/I say potato-tomato" thing sometimes.
Even if an item is listed with some sort of description, I still ask the condition. I can never complete/agree on a trade unless I know 100% what type of condition the item is in. It has saved me a lot of trouble/time from past "trade talks" that could have ended up like this.
I try to describe all the items I have w/out going overboard in my TL as well(e.g. Typing a whole paragraph) If I get PM'd, then I'll start writing an essay about it if need be ;)

That's the thing, my rule of thumb is that I have no problem receiving games the way I sell them. They work perfectly and that's what I trade for, to play games. We resolved the issue and everything will be fine. All while the mods were sleeping (:-#) Thanks for everyones input and I'll be more careful next time. I'm done with this bullshit for now. :D

Agreed. Personally I like my games Iget from CAG's as minty as possible. Maybe a few or so light scratches and I'm cool with as long as the seller makes me aware of it before hand.

Way to be late to the game.
I can't see myself doing any trading on this forum. While I don't want a game that looks like it's spent a week with monkeys, I've noticed I'm hardly anally retentive about my games. Sealed or unsealed makes no difference as it's going to end up unsealed eventually :D

meh, with the new shipping rates its more like 2.50-3 and if you cound a bubble mailer (if he threw out the one the seller sent) thats another buck or so.
Either way, I make it perfectly clear when I sell my items here or on ebay. I flat out say, " You are bidding on a mint and perfectly complete copy of major league baseball 2k7 on the xbox 360. I bought this game, beat it and am selling it in the same condition as it was when I bought it. Disc shows no smudges or scratches, and the case and manual are in perfect condition. "
And I mean just that too. In todays world some people just need to find something to be unhappy or bitch about. OP you can never be over wordy when describing what your selling, just to cover your own ass.

When I first started trading guides on here, I admittedly wasn't one to go into intricate details on each guide I had for trade/sale because as long as they're readable, I figured they were in OK shape for other CAGs to trade for.
Anyway, I started a trade with a CAG for a guide or a couple of guides I was looking for, in exchange for one of my harder to find guides which I had only a few of. I had tried removing the price sticker from the front of the guide to no avail and when it finally came off, it left a sticky residue, which I didn't dare try to clean out of fear of causing some fading to the cover.
Long story short, the CAG I dealt with complained about the stickyness and some creases which I had said were minor but they felt were extensive. So, yeah, one CAGs definition good is anothers of poor. But, have you ever TRIED removing the goo left behind by one of those stickers that have been on a guide forever? Not an easy task, I tell ya.
To add to the insults over my description of the guide(s) I sent them, they sent me my guide(s) I was trading for back in a huge mailer with no padding and they arrived flopped together inside the mailer.
In the end, we just both didn't leave ANY feedback for the other and called it a day. Anymore, if people want a super detailed description of the condition of a guide or game I may have for trade, I say ASK. Otherwise, I'll assume that you know that most guides come with SOME shelf wear.
That experience almost put me off trading with other CAGs, since I didn't want to deal with the aggravation of having to describe things down to the most minute detail. I buy games and guides to play and read, not sit on the shelf and go 'awwwww aren't they pretty'. Don't you?

Always describe your stuff as best you can just in case the person you are trading with is anal. Sometimes they can be hypocrites, but its better to have your back covered. If the guy doesn't really care about condition, he probably won't care when you say its been scuffed but works fine.
I also agree with the opinion that there is a clear difference between like-new and plays perfect. In fact, I've had to turn down some attractive offers simply because it seemed like other trader was dodging the question of condition.
Just pay the $4 and move on, its not that much in the grand scheme of things and you won't have to spend any more hours bickering about the issue. I assume that if you covered the return shipping, the other trader would be kind enough to not leave a negative feedback to such a new trader. (I remember like 99.9% of FB left on CAG are positive).
