Anyone know if the 6 Handy Treasures DLC is worth downloading?
http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3164000
List of each item there.
None of them look game-breaking.

Mural Town is when you'll really appreciate this game is in HD. Enjoy!
As for the DLC, as much as I loved this game, it is definitely not worth it to me. Maybe if I was just starting out. At this point, all I'd be playing for is the leveling achievements and the monster list (since I have all but the one boss the game glitched me out of having in my list for some reason). Now if they come out with some bonus dungeons that might be a different matter.

I'm about 16 hours into this game. Am really lossing time to play tho with classes and so many games coming out. Just got Rachet from gamefly and with COD 4 and Assassins coming out soon I might have to put this on hold for a little while, unfortunatly.

What shadow classes did you guys combine for the chars? I've followed this thread a bit for ideas and I'm sure it'll even out in the end, but are any combos generally looked at as the best for each char?

I just keep everyone at their given shadow class. However, during each quest...I'll stop and grind up the Generalist. I think Maro's Monk shadow has peaked on new skills so I may be moving him over Guardian. I'm also slowly leveling Kluke under white magic to get the HP regen skill and Jiro under black magic to get MP regen. But for basic questing, etc...I just keep them with their usual ones.

That song does get annoying. What's worse is I sometimes find myself humming it after I shut off the game.
That said, I'm on to the period of the disk 3 where you're set free to do all the optional stuff. Next up: Sea Cube fun
Does anyone know where i can find the lyrics to the final boss song " the seal is broken? " i just passed the game and have been having this song on loop on my pc for awhile. very fun game. liked it way more than i thought i would.

Here's all the info I could find:
Blue Dragon Shuffle Dungeon (400 MS Points) - 11/16
Download this new content featuring a dungeon that changes every time you enter. Along with more than 30 new items, powerful monsters, and more than 10 hard-to-beat bosses, there are certainly some challenges in store for you.

Thanks, Linkin. It sounds interesting. All I have left to do in the game is grind levels for the achievements and I've stopped playing as a result. This may help out a bit. But man, I am reluctant to pay even 400 points for this...

Blue Dragon just had a Price Drop at Gamestop (Universal I'm guessing) to $39.99 New and $34.99 Used. Can pick this up as part of Gamestop's After Christmas Buy 2 Get 1 Free Used Games, or get it at CC this Sunday for $31.49 New.
Credit goes to buckythekat (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/member.php?u=112307) for posting the Price Drop on the Video Game Deals forum (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=164592) .

Totally agreed. The demo slaped you into the game with nothing to go on. I would've prefered to just play the first hour of the game.
I just started playing a few days ago and despite all the b*tching and moaning I heard from Blue Dragon this is a soild game. Most CAGs I talked to were recomending Eternal Sonata over this so I took their advice and now I wish I didn't. Played about 20 hours of ES hoping it would pick up and get exciting but no luck. Switched over to Blue Dragon and I can clealy see it's a much better game.
I normaly don't buy guides but I picked this on up. Seems like it would benefit from it

I'm near the end of the game and completed all the sidequests but the aurora ruins forest one. (I havent used a guide but I looked after and I ended up doing the sea cube first and going to the easier parts instead after that...), but, if I want to complete my monster record/item record and all that stuff, after I beat the rest of the game will it let me continue playing, or do I have to get everything before I enter the final parts of the game?
Well I been telling people that Blue Dragon is a lot better than ES. I also got the game guide. Usually on gamefaqs there is enough info but for this game the faq on gamefaqs isnt that good. The guide is also handy to make sure you dont miss any of the one time monster/item/achievement.
There is a warp device before the final boss. But if you havent been using there guide there is a very good chance you missed some of the one time item/monster. You can also start a new game plus i think.
Spades22
01-20-2008, 02:31 PM
Don't think I missed anything. I used an online guide only for possible missable things (as well as this thread especially...on one page someone mentions the missable stuff), and I also examined everything/talked to everyone over and over so when I found the guide I had everything anyway.
But if theres a warp point thats good...I guess thats the last place to go back and get everything then?

The monster & item records have several moments in the game that give you 1 chance to fight a certian monster or obtain a specific item (most by stealing rare items from bosses). If you missed that 1 chance you gotta start over from the begining and without a guide or FAQs it's likely you missed one.
Spades22
01-20-2008, 02:58 PM
Aren't the "stealing items" ones only present in the 3rd disc mainly at the end with the Nene items? If not maybe I did miss one...eh...isn't there also a downloadable thing called "New plus" or something?
Not sure what it does, but hopefully it allows you to keep the current item/monster record you have and start from any save game on your HD. I have my saves all full and generally I've kept saves no more than like 2 hours between each other in case I needed to go back
I'm quite sure I didn't miss the monster one though. I used a guide from loc or something on gamefaqs for that and it seemed complete.
For the items, I just used this threa...on a someone lists the missable items.
Rodimus
01-20-2008, 03:12 PM
You're probably right about the items. I'm halfway through Disc 2 and I haven't encountered a boss that has a missable item yet (I hope so) And I've been paying close attention to the guide.
But with those bosses you only get one shot at stealing that "rare" item. If you by chance get the common item you have to resart and challenge the boss again. That sounds like a pain.
Spades22
01-20-2008, 03:55 PM
ooh really? I tried getting the black belt from the Eat Yeet boss and once I tried for half an hour, getting this crappy item first then never getting the black belt. (with steal and treasure hunt...and loot also).
I tried again later and I got it on my 2nd steal in like 1 minute...so maybe that boss falls into that category also. (i.e. if you get the crap item first you can't get the black belt)
The game has been pretty easy for me, but right after the one point in disc 3 where I fought this other extra ghost yeet boss and was around level 40 I found him quite tough. I lost twice, so then I had to change everyone out of their generalist/suckier classes, put them on their best ones with highest attack/defense, and equip the accessories that prevent petrify and stuff. I used 3 corporeals and barely beat him in the end as everyone had about 100 hp left. I don't think that ghost yeet had any good items though,...

unfortunately i got mine last fall in the TRU b2g1 - but still think it was well worth it. started it up last week and have already clocked nearly 18 hours.......and this is coming from someone who got bored of DQ8 after about 15 hours or so. the battle system is just so customizable (swapping skills and shadow classes is fun!), the graphics are amazing, and the story isn't THAT bad so far. if the story doesn't pick up until disc 2 like some say, then i'll surely enjoy the rest of the game.
I don't think I've ever been so excited to find "nothing" before in a game.........

I've been playing this quite a lot as well.
Finished Disc 1 at 17 hours exactly and I'm at the end of Disc 2 at 22 hours.
Hoping to finish sometime next week.
I've been playing this again to rack up the level achievements. Since I'm so close I'd like to get 1000 points but the monster list one glitched on me as one of the mandatory bosses did not show up on my list. Fortunately it is near the beginning (end of disc 1 I think). Has anyone started a New Game +? I assume I have all my levels and items and thus I can breeze though the early levels and get to the end of disc 1 without too much time or trouble. I'm assuming I can use the Field Barrier and just blow through any enemies. It is one of the 4 robot bosses on the ship that I am missing. Also, I assume the New Game + adds monsters to the list you already have so once I get that one I ought to get the achievement. I am about an hour from racking up the 99 level shadows from each character (by sitting on the Poo Snake island with the barrier on while I do something else like play SSBB ;)). That should leave me at 980/1000 which is just frustrating. It will be a lot of work to get to 1000 but I feel like I'm so close I might as well get it done.

If you got to disc 4 then you DID finish as it only has 3 discs ;).
In terms of finishing, wow, I dunno as I'm at 99 across the board now. I did the final parts at a much lower level though - maybe in the 50's or 60's though it is hard to remember. Next time I have it running I can look at my save files to see where I was.
I think I'll give the New Game + a shot tonight - it seems maybe no one else has ever done this on CAG.

Just got this about a week ago for $14.99 at frys and I can't wait to play it soon but with all the new games I have it looks like I'm pretty much back tracked right now.
You're right, I ment disc 3. Anyways I'm at level 40 with everyone, guess I need to level some more.
OK, I looked at all my save files and it is kind of hard to tell but I was certainly pretty far along while my chars were still in the mid-40's. I honestly don't remember when I did the ending but I do know that the New Game + allowed me to select quite a few of my saves going back to when I was in the 40's (all on Disc 3). I'm guessing maybe that was when I finished??
I can confirm that New Game + allows you to keep your levels and all items. But it is still a bit odd because I had to re-find the Creature Compendium to get the monster list to show back up and of course you can't use your skills until you acquire the shadows. Also, you can't use field skills until the "tutorial" pops up but fortunately that is pretty early. So from that point on I just activated the field barrier and cruised through nearly all of Disc 1 in about 2 1/2 hours (skipping cut scenes obviously).
The monster that glitched on me was Heat Wave Sai who is the last of the 4 robot mini-bosses Szabo sends after you on the flying fortress right at the end of disc 1 (not spoiler tagged because if you haven't gotten that far the names are meaningless and I want to warn people looking for the achievements to be aware of this). Note that this is an absolutely mandatory boss that drops in on you after you complete a certain task. And yet in my original playthrough he did not show up in my Monster list after I beat him. I was very careful to snag all the optional and missable monsters (see a FAQ for those if you care about that achievement at least by the end of disc 1).
Fortunately that achievement chimed in right after I beat him this time. So there's more confirmation that you can build on the monster list (and presumably item list as well though I did complete that one the first time) in a New Game +. Extrapolating from my 2 1/2 hours on disc 1 I would imagine you could blow through the game in 7-8 hours total with a New Game + and high-level chars. Actually, probably less since I think Disc 1 is the longest part.

I just picked this up for 14.98 at my local Target. Looks like a lot of fun although the beginning seems a little slow. Just a quick question: I usually get guides for the harder RPGs I play, so is one recommended for this? Basically I'm asking if there are a lot of misable items you can't go back and find later, or if the game doesn't give you and direction as to what to do next, or if it ever gets frustrating.

I just beat Jeelala, am at level 29, and 23 hours in. i have a feeling that i'm spending too much time exploring and fighting, but it's hard not to when there are so many different attacks and spells to try.
and so far so good on the monsters/items lists - i don't think i've missed any yet. glad to hear that a new game+ won't take long if i do happen to miss something though....

There are most definitely missable items and monsters. You can get by with a FAQ though. There was a nice one that listed what monsters and items you should have at certain points (by their number in the Compendium) and at what point you can miss them. It was very useful for me and if it was not for the glitch I had happen I would have had both lists done on my first playthrough.
I wouldn't say it gets frustrating but you do need to know where to go/what to do in a few cases so it is good to know ahead of time.
Some of the "action" achievements are a real pain - though in every case there is a save right before so make sure you use those so you can go back and redo if necessary. I had to redo the wagon protection one about 3-4 times and the Mechat shooting ones a few times as well (I think you can't take ANY damage in those and it gets pretty challenging - I think the 2nd is easier than the 1st, but the 3rd is harder). Heck, I even had to redo the "push A real fast" one near the beginning of the game as I let a robot through just a split second before I got the door closed.

If memory serves, you CAN take damage in the third [EDIT, I DUMB] second Mechat stage. The requirement there is that you have to destroy EVERYTHING instead: all the guns, missile launchers, etc.

Ah, OK, so maybe that is the easy one and the second one is hard. It is the one where you are flying down a tube-like thing and you have to shoot down a ton of missiles coming at you and can't get hit once.

Oh yeah, that is the third one. I was thinking of the second, the optional shooting state to get into the Upper Mecha base. The third is the tunnel fight against a land shark to get to the final areas, which is a PAIN.

Just finished up a few achievements, now Im 1000/1000!
Well, I watched the first two episodes of the cartoon with my youngest son last weekend. He's the one who watched me play pretty much the whole game so he knows all the characters and such.
The cartoon is a bit strange because, while the characters look the same and have the same names, they are voiced differently and the plot has been changed up. There's still Nene as the bad guy, but it starts off with Zola as a shadow-master (my term for it as she is being very mysterious in the first 2 eps) with Jiro as her apprentice (!). Jiro and Shu don't much like each other and are trying to beat each other up at first. Soon they discover Shu can summon the Blue Dragon (much to his surprise) but cannot control it. As a result Nene wants to find him so they leave Shu's village (with Kluke tagging along without any powers as of yet) to keep it safe from Nene's attacks. Very strange plot mixup when you have played the game... But there's still land sharks and Szabo and Nene's robot forces and whatnot. So my son got a big kick out of it.

I'm having a hard time figuring out the reviews for this game. Haven't played it yet, but based on everything I've read, heard, and seen (trailers, gameplay videos), it looks, feels, and plays much like DQVIII (a game which I adored btw). Yet, sites that praised DQVIII for its old-school sensibilities criticize BD for the very same reasons. Boogles the mind.
I want/need a guide if anyone has one. Send me a PM with details if you have one.

That's exactly what I thought. But having played it I'd say for sure if you liked DQ VIII (as I did - probably my favorite PS2 game) then by all means play Blue Dragon. I would say it isn't quite as good, but then that's a tall order ;). It does have one advantage (over DQVIII and Lost Odyssey) - no random battles!

One major disadvantage in that the characters can be extremely annoying. I thought I could look past the characters and was actually enjoying the gameplay quite a bit, but I got 15 hours in and realized I didn't care about the story at all because I absolutely hated the main characters. My wife was also looking at me the whole time I was playing a game with such annoying characters. It wouldn't have bothered me if I wasn't thinking the same thing in my head.
With that being said I can easily see how reviewers could try and look past the characters and think they were being objective, but would knock other aspects of the game as a result.
If I have a hankering for a JRPG I will be trying LO or ES before I come back to this game. If I do come back to it I will be turning off the volume and listening to a custom soundtrack. I will also skip all cutscenes.

Just picked up the game last night on clearance at TRU. Got about 10 minutes into the game, and it froze. =[ Thought it might be a fluke, so I rebooted. Froze again in the same spot!
At this point I'm thinking, if it freezes in the same exact spot, there might be a problem with the disc. Sure enough, there were scuffs on there, a few of them deep-ish. Hooray for stacking discs on top of each other!
So now I have to go back to TRU today and exchange it, burning my $5 off coupon in gas money in the process. =[
Anyone else have a scratched disc problem with this game?

Yup.

In my case, the third disc has the most blemishes, so I'll be deep into it before (if) problems start. Don't think I can do anything about it since I bought the last copy...

So I went back to TRU, and it turns out I bought the last copy. For fuck's sake. I had a decision to make: try to run the disc through Skip Doctor or an equivalent, or get a refund. I decided to get my money back and pick up the game at a later date. If I can find it for $20 somewhere else, I'll pick it up. Maybe Amazon will drop the price again in the near future.

Yeah...see I actually saw the first couple episodes before getting my copy of the game. Still I actually am enjoying both stories...I dunno, I actually like it unlike some of the others here.
Today's episode was great though...I kinda wanted to see the unedited version to know what was actually said in this episode. Marumaro is just the character I expected him to be, a complete perv. See...in the show you could totally tell that they edited and made that fake flag. You could tell it was Kluke's panties in the way she put her hands in front of her skirt and when Marumaro got them off the pole and stretched the "flag" you could totally figure out it was her panties. Not to mention you know he groped her instead of the whole saying she was weak and that his fingers had cramps.
^^ I haven't watched today's yet - sounds interesting ;). Is Maru obsessed with Zola like he is in the game? That was probably the funniest part of the game.
D4rkewolfe
04-20-2008, 01:54 PM
Nope, he is obsessed with all cute girls. Zola I guess goes into more of the woman category and not a girl...so he doesn't seem to be too interested in her. He is obsessed with Kluke instead. Since like I said he pretty much enjoys groping her and they lured him with some of her panties (though it was edited like I said, by making his hand movements just saying he had finger cramps...and then the flag thing). Also, he wanted to get revenge on the Shu and others because he thought he destroyed the town they were in (and not just cause the town was great...but cause the town was filled with cute girls as he put it).
The whole obsessed with Zola thing was amusing and cute, his obsession with Kluke is definitely funny though, since it is filled with perversion and not admiration.

Yeah, finally watched it last night. Of course, his voice seems all wrong. And the perversion is definitely a wierd (and slightly disturbing) thing compared to how innocent he was in the game. It all seems very strange and off to me ;).

Cartoon Network at 9am Saturdays.

Guess I will post something about the game so it evens out lol. I'm on disc two now...so yeah.
Now back to the show XD
Seeing as how I started with the show...for some reason as soon as I saw that model character I expected him to be just like he is in the show. I met him first in the game and saw how wrong I was...then when he came on the show I was like "oh yeah...now that's what I thought Maru to be like".

Just started playing this game and I gotta say its awesome. Its my first JRPG and I have about 4 hours into it.
For those of you who have played/completed..at what shadow level did you switch to another class? Do you stagger who is a generalist to obtain the additional slots? Im only at the Ancient Hospital now after the drill and everyone is I think shadow level 12 - reg level 10.

At the begininging of the game i stuck with their initial for a little bit and then i switched everyone to generealist to get the additional skill slots. you really wont get to expand upon them until you get field barrier 3 from there on its a cake walk to level them up. You learn all the skills for each at around level 32-35.
On another note I rolled to about 90 hours tonight and im right at the very very end everyones levels are in the high 70's , but i also got all the achievements and side quests minus the max all shadows and get everyone to level 99.

Once I got the 360 I was really into getting achievements but this game I could care less. I'm just enjoying it as it is...I could not see myself playing it over again just to get all the achievements. I'm actually enjoying the game as it is. I don't play it as often as I'd like, but the times I do I have fun, even if it is just skilling up.
I almost got generalist to 36 (got Maru there first) with everyone without a field barrier. I just wanted that done with and then level up my jobs.

Can you steal more than once from an enemy?
D4rkewolfe
05-03-2008, 09:58 PM
Yes, dunno if all enemies have 2 items, but like certain do. The crappy and good item. If you have loot and treasure hunter then by simply attacking (using attack and not magic sword or spells) you steal and cause of TH increase your chance for the better item.
I just beat this at 2 a.m. today. Felt it very enjoyable and actually liked the story. Reminded me of playing RPGs on my SNES. I keep hearing people bad mouth the story and everything, but well, I thoroughly enjoyed all of it.

if you're just going for all of the achievements, then there are really only two steals you HAVE to do. both of them are on disc 3, nearish the end. one of the dragons, and the second-last boss
and yeah, in order to get one you can flee from the enemy, but the other one you can't, so you have to reset/reload to try again.

nope. if you download some of the extra content you can use your last save before the final boss to start a new game plus. you do start with the same character/skill levels, and your item and monster logs are exactly the same as your last save was, but you have to go through the whole story again.
if you want to grind for levels, you should just do that before the final boss (or beat it and then reload your last save to grind). if you're missing an item from earlier in the story that cannot be found later in the story (like i was) - the final item you get after beating it can only be gotten again by going through the game again with the new game plus. :bomb:

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I recently really got going in Blue Dragon. I had picked it up in December and stuck it in my backlog. I started playing it a couple of weeks ago in my spare time and I'm about half way through disc 2 now. I'm really enjoying it so far. The story is interesting and it's keeping me into it. I just recently swapped all of my shadows over to Generalist and have been trying to get them skilled up now.
Did you all work on all of the classes for all of the shadows? I had gotten everyone past 36 for their original shadows so that they got all of the skills from them. I had started Kluke on Barrier and she was about 16 on it before I swapped her to Generalist. I had started Maro on Sword Master before moving him to Generalist, but I'd like to get him further down Sword Master as well. Having him able to Mow Down with Shu's type of damage on it would be nice.

in the end, attack amp (monk) is better usually better than mow down. with that, if you charge your attack, you can hit enemies in a circular range, meaning more in front, more in back; and there doesn't seem to be a damage penatly.
double strike (assassin)+attack amp is MUCH better than mow down. then you can hit a bunch of enemies twice.

Yeah, I've seriously leveled up multiple classes for each character in the last week. I've been working on the side quests and the exp & SP are coming at a great rate. Plus, it helps that I have 2 Black Belts and 1 Eyepatch spread out on 3 characters to double their SP.
I've done most of the sidequests now. I don't think that I will work toward 1000/1000. I like the game a lot, but I have a huge backlog of games and I'm ready to start on some of them. I have about 45 hours into this one now.

Ugh, I was running around tonight to tie up a few loose ends before going after Nene. I grabbed the last few Mysterious items that I needed for the bracelet and necklace and worked on some missing barriers. I went looking for the cave with the corrosive poo and king poo and I guess I ended up in the wrong cave and ran into the Spark dragon.
Yay for me running around for an hour and a half without saving it at all. Needless to say, I died a horrible death to the spark dragon and lost everything that I had done tonight. It's my own fault, but I still turned it off in disgust and went and slaughtered bad guys on Heavenly Sword. They should've put a checkpoint before the Spark dragon though. :bomb:

Hooray for being paranoid!
I bought Blue Dragon yesterday, and I have a question for those of you who purchase the NTSC version of Blue Dragon.
I was wondering, the wrapper on Blue Dragon isn't like other wrappers found on 360 games. It almost looks resealed, but the MS sticker is still intact. I noticed the other copies the store had looked like this, so I looked on Ebay for auctions with new copies of the game and they look like this too. I even went to Circuit City and the one copy they had was the same way.
Is this like this due to the game having multiple discs? Is it supposed to be like that? I THINK it's manufactured that way, but I wanted to ask you guys since, well, you bought the game.

Sorry to resurrect such an old thread, but I just got this game today (for my birthday from my one year old son :) ). I have a question, but I'll preface by saying I am a father of two, work 10 hours a day, and I'm going to graduate school....I don't have a lot of time to play games, so I usually try to bust right through them. Thus, I usually get guides. A. Because they help me get through games with the minimal time I have and B. they make nice additions to the collections that compliment the game. So..
Would you recommend getting the guide for this game? I've played about two hours and didn't need one, but you know how JRPG's can get. Any thoughts???

No you won't need the guide but I say go ahead and buy the guide. The guide has nice maps that are good for treasure hunting but the guide doesn't have the locations for the crazy amount of hidden items (the hidden items you search for on walls and stuff.)
Yeah, Blue Dragon is one of those games where you literally leave no stone un-turned. Check every pebble and every tree stump, usually it's only 10 gold but sometimes you find bonus experience or a +1 to one stat or another. Don't really need a guide to tell you that. Although, I've heard the strategy guide does help you with locating all those rare monsters so it might be worth it for that.

Thanks, guys. I think I'll get it. Like I said, I like them as collectibles, as well.

If you like everything in the game, I'd get the guide,
I have the guide, its pretty useful.
I beat the game a long time ago though.
Well, I finally did get a guide for it, about a year after I beat it. I was able to get 100% completion (and all the achievements) just using a FAQ or two. So that's another way to go (plus I find them easier to read - never feel like I want to mess up a nice guide by actually using it ;)).
If you just want to play through the game and not be a completist then you definitely don't need a guide of any sort. But there are several missable achievements so it helps to know when those occur. There are also some rare monsters and items (which are also part of an achievement). The game glitched on me and at the end I had every monster in my list except one. And that one was a mini-boss that you could not avoid! It simply didn't record him in the list. However, the game has a New Game + option and I was able to restart and blow through the first few hours and get him again (fortunately he was early on).
This reminds me, though, that I should give the DS game a spin. I picked that up used from GS several weeks ago.

I still need to open this game. If only I could go back and finish Fallout 3 after 3 months...

Only if you truly want to complete everything in the game, i used the guide and got all 1000gs. I also like to use the guides as place holders in my rpgs, since i often put them down and come back to them alter on (sometimes years later) lol. It was a pretty good guide though.

I couldn't get the button mashing achievements in this game =(

I also gave up after about an hour of disappointment with my slow ass old thumbs.

I have slow ass old thumbs and can't play most twitch games or anything that requires multiple sticks/buttons at once (like most FPS and fighting games) worth a damn, but I still managed to get those achievements without too much trouble. Yeah, I had to do a few of them multiple times, but it wasn't too painful. That's not to say I didn't absolutely HATE doing them. I really despise it when games make those sorts of things into achievements. I'm playing Oblivion now and much prefer the way that one doles out achievements - though, dare I say, they are a little too easy in that game. I would have liked it if there had been more "completion" type achievements - like buying all the houses or completing X number of sidequests, etc... Except for the boss glitching on me in Blue Dragon I enjoyed that particular achievement (getting all the monsters on the list).

Can anyone tell me if this game has captions or if there are mainly text bubbles without the requirement to hear voice-overs or anything? I'm a deaf gamer, and I've been itching to play this.

It's got subtitles even during cutscenes so your deafness shouldn't be a problem. Good for you picking this up and enjoy.

Sweet! That makes my day. I'm so glad so many games have captions these days, with the notable exclusion of the first Assassin's Creed...
