I just picked up the HD-DVD drive last month and everything was working fine up until this weekend. For some reason the HD-DVD drive no longer shows up in the Dashboard. Instead of having the option to open either HD-DVD tray or 360 console tray like you should have after installing the HDDVD software, my Dash has switched back to the original setup with only the option to open the 360 console drive. HD DVD still has power but when I put in a disc, nothing happens.

I tried to reinstall the software and it allowed me to do so, restarted the system and everything was back to normal. Even checked out an HDDVD movie and things played perfectly. So I shut down the machine and when I came back later t hat evening to watch a DVD, lo and behold, the HDDVD eject on the dash wasn't available again. I tried reconnecting everything again but no luck.

Has anyone encountered this with the HD DVD drive and if so, have you found out a way to fix this problem? Thanks!

Did you check the USB connection from the drive to the console?

I have tried connecting the USB cable in all the USB ports on the 360 and no luck. The USB ports are working because I have tried other USB items (Play & Charge kit & GHII Controller). I got the drive to randomly work one time this weekend, but I couldn't get it to work again after shutting it off. I have an extra cable that I found and I will try that tonight.

Double check to make sure your hard drive is seated correctly and firmly? I ran into this issue out of stupidity.
