No way, that trailer was awesome. The helicopter scene alone was worth the watch.

A couple of things I noticed:

- It may be possible to see interiors of cars
- Dangling may be a new play mechanic (as seen from the dangling off the truck and helicopter).
- Interiors look fucking incredible.
- You can see a lot further into the city
- The framerate STILL looks shitty. I was hoping they'd have fixed it by this generation. Of course, there's still plenty of time to tweak it but it is still a bit disconcerting (especially the final few scenes).

Wow, that looks awesome.

Seems like (similar to CJ from the last GTA) they're trying to make the protagonist more sympathetic. I think it's a smart move. I never cared to finish GTA 3 or GTA Vice City simply because the main characters were pretty reprehensible.

Now, CJ could be too but in the game's storyline, he's more of a guy put into a very tough situation.

Here's hoping they don't hold off on released the regular edition, I could care less about a bag and a box.

That sucked.

were you expecting to see the whole game?

I thought that revealed a lot. they do great trailers...too bad the game will probably bore me after 10 hours or make me give up when I run into a mission made impossible due to poor controls/unclear objectives.

I'm deeply impressed by this trailer. The story alone seems more compelling than the previous games, though to be fair I've not played those games much. Just as with Manhunt 2, it seems that Rockstar are pretty dedicated to making highly cinematic things.

Having said that, if I was to purchase this game, I'd prbably be sick of it in less than a week. That is my curse and those who do not suffer from it - I envy thee.

Five Cool Things About GTA IV
As you watch the new Grand Theft Auto trailer depicting life on the streets in Liberty City, be sure to watch for these cool additions:

1. Graphics
The coolest feature so far is the upgraded RAGE Graphics Engine (also used to power Table Tennis), which finally replaces Renderware under the GTA hood. RAGE now features a heavily customized version of Natural Motion's "Euphoria" physics engine, which got major attention last year when LucasArts demo'ed it as part of the Indiana Jones and Star Wars games. Expect even more excitement as you see how the teaming of RAGE and Euphoria affects movement, gunplay, climbing, and driving. Rockstar also points out that everything you see in the GTA IV trailers is capture in-game -- there are no underhanded renders here.
2. Sound
While the Natural Motion has a visible effect on the physical aspects of action and gunplay, even more noticeable is the game's audio system. Positional audio makes for the sort of intense, fun gun battles we've always wanted in GTA. The streets sound -- and feel -- real.

3. Tunes
Part and parcel of the audio system, of course, is Rockstar's trend-setting ability to craft a killer soundtrack. The new trailer is scored with "Arm In Arm (Shy Child Remix)" by New York City-based band The Boggs. The idea was to show a real street-level view of Rockstar's version of the city with a band that belongs there. To that effect, you'll be seeing even more licensed music from all genres and time periods, since the soundtrack team is no longer confined to a specific decade.

4. Time
While Rockstar is reluctant to discuss the details, time is a big factor in GTA IV. The new trailer indicates in subtle ways how the passage of time might affect the game, and there are clues that indicate some missions, or mission elements, might be time-specific. And if that's the case, then can multiple outcomes and branching storylines be far behind? Don't expect a mission flowchart that looks like a New York City subway map, but Rockstar could surprise us.

5. The Details
The vastly upgraded graphics don't just make for a shinier front end. Rockstar has worked to make GTA IV follow through, from the biggest details to the smallest. You can see it in the way Niko leans around a corner, or how he sways while hanging (in real-time, procedural motion) from the skid of a helicopter. It's the glance into a car and the ways in which the streets of Liberty City are teeming with the life we've been waiting to see from the series. Rockstar claims the new graphics, sound, and details make the game more beautiful, not more disturbing, and we're almost ready to believe them.

Yeah, I don't want to think about the YouTube videos that having planes in this game would've created. 'Cause we all know how tasteful the gaming 'community' can be and usually is!

I really can't wait for this game. It's seeming more and more like an "adult" offering in the truest sense of the word, not the suburban teenage 'gangsta's' idea of what "adult" should be. But make no mistake, it should be pretty damned fun, too.

Seriously, though it isn't just here. Seems like gamers from every message board seems unimpressed with the graphics. Maybe Nintendo was right with the Wii when they said that graphics have come to a point where no one bats an eye at them. I personally am in awe every time I see GTA4 in action.

I downloaded and watched it on my ps3. I have never ever hyped a GTA game and i know from just that trailer i want to buy it on day one. WOW! Rockstar knows how to sell it. I would be suprised if it doesn't sell a lot better than halo 3.

I got about an hour and a 1/2 into Saint's Row before I just totally grew tired of the "gangsta" vibe to it. It probably wasn't fair, but oh well.

This, on the other hand, seems like a well-crafted movie. The violence isn't the point, but a by-product of the story line / situation of the protagonist. This could turn out really well--and for the first time, I'm interested in GTA4 in a big way.

Well my one worry for GTA IV has been fixed: changing everything to look so much nicer might have screwed with the feel of GTAs semi cartoon characters, but after seeing some characters talk and react, I'm good.

that guys voice sounds familiar i swear he reminds me of someone from a cartoon. maybe that old doug cartoon i dunno. they could have used someone with a deeper voice and rougher russian accent but eh.

i think it's doing a good job of building the hype. and that is pretty much the trailer's job. but until i see some gameplay, i won't have a real opinion on the game. but the graphics and story look fun.

I had a similar worry. Trailer put my mind at ease there.

Leaning around corner, hanging off of helicopters, good looking interior enviroment shown, etc. The trailer is encouraging.

It should have car customization ala True Crime NYC.

That was pretty cool.

imagine if Sony was able to secure the exclusive rights to GTAIV... man they would've sold a hell of alot more consoles :D.

Now it's no longer a matter of whether or not to buy this game, but which console to buy it for. The PS3 I'm a bit wary because of the fickle controller and no rumble, but it's possible it will run better on the ps3 than 360 because it's optimized for the Hard Drive.

Your 360 has a hard drive. I'm sure they will utilize it, just like they did in Oblivion and other games.

Plus, 360 has the exclusive DLC, if you're into that sort of thing.

Trailer got me excited for GTA4 for the first time.

Looking better with every showing. I liked the scarface-like scene where it's pretty obvious he's being questioned upon entering the country. I hope there's a lot more organic, physics based gameplay, because screwing around with things and seeing what kind of absurd events you can create has always been the best part of GTA. I think crackdown raised the standard in that case with co-op.

I will be doing a lot of hanging from cars, I can see this.

i hope the have a deeper hand to hand combat system. gta sa was better than the others in that regard but that stuff still needs work. i want to finally be able to run and dropkick someone or clothsline them.

Not according to the last interview I read on GTAIV
http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=163233

During an interview with our partners in crime at Official PlayStation Magazine, Rockstar's creative vice president Dan Houser was asked: "On PS3 you've got a guarantee that every machine is going to have a hard-drive and, with Blu-ray, you've got plenty of storage, whereas on Xbox 360 there's no guarantee of a hard-drive and you're working with the DVD format. Does that create limitations?" To which he replied, "Yep."

He continued, "To be honest with you we haven't solved all those riddles yet." The difficulties aren't limited to working on Microsoft's box, as Houser explains that "both have enormous challenges" and that "both have their own particular pleasures and pains".
