View Full Version : So what are you guys playing now? Part deuce

Everything needs an electrical cord. It's tricky because you have to design the electrical cord so it goes straight into the outlet. Meaning you have to build it straight out from the outlet, and then left or right into the input. If you try otherwise, it won't actually connect.
Thanks Botticus, I figured out what I had wrong--I had to rotate a part so the electrical cord went into the outlet like you said! It was a little confusing looking at the sample layout at first.
How are you doing in Etrian O? I stopped playing for awhile, but want to get back to it. Just got a little burned out grinding so much.

I was going to start a new thread, but I might as well talk about it here first.
Does anyone else get really nervous about their Live Arcade, Virtual Console and PSN games? Like what's going to happen if they don't carry over into the next systems nervous? I know it's still a while off, but it makes me very leery about purchasing any of these games if I can't have them long term :-/
That's part of the reason why I'm so anti-download service. I don't trust MS, Sony, or Nintendo enough when it comes to transferring over the shit that I bought. So since I haven't bought any downloadable stuff that I care about, it's not an issue for me... but I would be nervous if I had something I cared about on there.

huh, that's weird. I'd have figured that game would've been spit-polished to the nth degree. I guess not.
Is the general consensus that they're going to keep Sigma on the PS3 only or might it see some daylight as a 360 title? At this point, now that I'm awake and thinking ratioanlly, it's more the controller than the pricey new system that makes me ask that.
As for The Darkness, I have a feeling it would be a buy-play-sell type of game. How long is it?
I thought they said that it was going to stay a PS3 title. Either way, has Team Ninja ported any of their recent games (No, Sigma is not a port)? I wouldn't expect it to happen here simply because the game is so optimized for the PS3.

I can see things being the easiest with MS, ok with Sony, and messy with Nintendo.

How are you doing in Etrian O? I stopped playing for awhile, but want to get back to it. Just got a little burned out grinding so much.Yeah, it took me like 20 minutes to figure out why my stuff wasn't getting power, since most games with that sort of activity would have the electrical cord automatically connect if you put it in the adjacent square.
In Etrian I'm approaching the end of the 5th floor, just hit level 19. I hope the first warp is on the 5th floor, cause even though I haven't minded the grinding yet, its unfortunate that it takes almost an entire day in game time to get back there when I want to save.

But I don't see these companies taking a step backwards with their next console and no longer supporting an almost-free revenue stream; hell, I'm guessing the DS2 is going to have its own portable VC service. I'm not sure if MS or Sony require any sort of validation or connectivity to play those games, but as long as my Wii doesn't break, I can play Contra III on it forever.

Assuming that the 720/PS4/Wii2 have all the games from this generation ready to download right from the start, it would be very easy to bring over your games from the 360/ps3. In the 360's case, you'd have to be signed onto your xbl name to play the games, and the ps3 games could be re-downloaded as long as you're within your 5 download limit (you can download every game you buy up to 5 times).
Now with the Wii, I guess if Nintendo figured out some kind of validation linking you with your mynintendo account, that could work. Otherwise, I'm stumped and a little nervous to download any games.

I haven't bought any XBLA or PSN games. My PS3 came with some great games but I have no plans to pay for something I can't physically own. I know it sounds old fashioned but I don't trust any of the companies to seamlessly incorporate anything from this generation into the next.

 So we ended up getting it after all did we? Anyway about NGS to those who have played both Xbox versions, if you still have the Xbox versions would you get rid of them and just keep NGS? As I kind of don't like having three of the same damn game is why I am asking. From what I played thus far NGS is probably the best version but I am not that far either.

I finished off Hour of Victory's campaign last night, only have to finish off a few levels with the spy character to forever shelf it.
My $17 copy of DDRU from CircuitCity.com showed up yesterday. I'll hold off on buying the dance pad till there's absolutely no worthwhile releases in the pipeline.
My copy of Vampire Rain failed to ship yesterday, so it'll probably be the weekend till it shows up.
Super Paper Mario is so good, I almost wish I didn't sell my Wii for a profit.

Figured I would try to get some heavy gaming in on the holiday.
Xbox 360: Gears of War (Multiplayer): I am just loving this again, I got my chainsaw award last week, and now I am trying to get back to using a gun.
(I would continue the Darkness, but I do not remember where I was, and there is no apparent log)
PC: Warhammer: Dark Crusade -- I love this game, but Multiplayer is tough to get back into.

It's a good price, but you have to really ask yourself how much plan on using it and what games you actually want to play besides NGS and Okami.
If you plan on just buying it and playing through those two games, you could sell the PS3 on CAG for minimal loss.

Yeah, that's true, but for the PS3 the horizon is pretty far.

I keep forgetting about Lair. I hope that game actually turns out well. But yeah, I'm also interested in Heavenly Sword and... honestly, I'm not sure what else I want from 2007 if MGS 4 slips. Surprisingly, there's a number of Wii games that actually look playable later in the year... more than the 360 and PS3. PC has the best lineup later this year though, IMO... and all the multiplatform stuff like Assassin's Creed is going to be played on that.
I'm waiting on Street Fighter Anniversary Collection, Street Fighter EX3 and Street Fighter Alpha Anthology to arrive this week -- so I'll definitely be playing those.

But, as it stands, it's still way too much money to play one pretty port of a game I've beaten and own (that for some seems to be glitching something fierce).
In the end, being content is a good thing. Not everything has to be new and shiny. Looks like Godfather for the Wii might be seeing a price cut soon. I'm holding out for that for a "new" game to play.
Playing Separate Ways on RE4 right now. I like how they, mid chpater 3, drop you in a cage with the claw guy. That's nice, when you have like 1/2 the health you'd otherwise have there as Leon and no where near the firepower. I stopped playing tonight after I died too many times there trying to blow the locks off the door. Tomorrow is another day... another day where I will win all of RE4. Yes. A winner is me.0

Final Fantasy II on GBA...started this one a couple months ago and finding that I have to force myself to play it more than I did for the first one. It's not that it's bad, it's just harder to get into, though I do enjoy actual character names and the decent story.
Just started Donkey Konga 2 today and having a blast with it. I think I'm through two-thirds of the songs on Monkey, getting a gold DK on all of them so far.
And also just started Nanostray for DS, I completed the first 3 levels so far.

Maybe Apossum's PS3 is having problems reading the game or something, because it sounds like he's literally having an entirely different experience than we are. I am having absolutely no issues at all, so I dunno. And after I installed the game, the brief load times when you open some chests got even shorter, so... yeah.

A shame to hear NGS has those loading issues. It seems like Itagaki would have wanted the definitive version to be the best. Lol, you just had to bring me up. ;) Take a look at my game collection in my sig and you can see I'm far from being a Sony Viral Marketer (I support most all platforms)
Itagaki had nothing to do with the PS3 version. His other development team handled the PS3 version (who also seems to be making other PS3 games too). Also, could be wrong, but if you're playing on a 20GB PS3 and you install the game, loading can be slower, due to the 20GB having a 2MB cache (compared to the 60GB having an 8MB cache). Games like Gripshift and VF5 prove this (60GB has almost instant loading between fights, while the 20GB has a few second loading time). I only have a 20GB currently, but I'm planning to upgrade soon (I have less than 3GB left). Only reason I'm taking so long is because I want a 16MB cache and 250GB the most, but will probably just settle for 160GB at 8MB cache.
Nah, Mana Knight's a good guy. He's just passionate about his games. :)
Pretty much. When I worked on an RPG website (now its closed), writing reviews, previews, news stories, etc., most anyone who saw my reviews could say they were very long (2000-5000 words), extremely emotional, etc., and could tell I really enjoy playing games. I do favor PlayStation, but I still enjoy my games (on any platform), too much.;)
Anyway, my gaming has been a bit on the low side lately. I just realized I forgot to play PSP yesterday.:( I played some Super Stardust HD and got a higher score, but did not surpass any buddies. ;( The game is a lot of fun and very addicting. I played Ridge Racer 7 and I'm the top person on my buddy list (mostly Modojo and CAG members). Beat the Grand Prix and all Manufacturer Trials, so now I'm around 66% complete with the game. Played some Resistance last night for the first time in a while. Made me realize why I really liked the game (despite not liking most FPS). Played Forza 2 on 360. My progress is moving a little slow due to being in a weird position (not many cars qualify, and if I upgrade, run into walls too much and take too much damage).
I somewhat feel like playing an RPG on PS2, but can't decide which still. I've made heavy progress in Tales of the Abyss, Ar Tonelico, Atelier Iris 2: The Azoth of Destiny, etc., so I might play one of them. Or, I could finally play Rogue Galaxy, since I only played for 1 hour. :(

Finally got back into Rogue Galaxy. Finished off the optional planet, started in on Zerard. Can already tell the two towers are going to be a pain in the ass. I assume I'm not going through it incorrectly by switching from tower to tower as I go up (or down, wherever the hell I'm going).

You have to switch back and forth on your way up, yes. But notice that you are skipping the corresponding level in the other tower when you do so. Guess what? You need to do it all again afterwards and hit those alternating levels (going to the top of the second tower). It is definitely the low point of the game, but it picks up quite a bit from there both story-wise and in variety of battling, so stick with it!
Saw earlier that you were getting GrimGrimoire. I'm about half way through. What I like about it is that is seems to be a fairly short game, at least to plow through the story. There are a ton of optional battles and I've only done one of those, though. It doesn't appear that you get anything by doing them, so I'm not sure if I ever will complete them all. As for the story, the battles started off fairly easy, then got really hard, and now seem easy again. Part of that is I have settled on a combo of phantoms and dragons which seems to be pretty powerful against whatever the other guy has. In one level the story pushes you to make some special unit but I found it was weak in comparison to the phantom/dragon combo.

Just beat Sonic 2 on the VC. I'm having an absolute blast replaying all my favorite games lately. Mega Man 2 & 3 and Mario 3, RE4 on the Wii, and now Sonic 2. I feel like a little kid again! ;)
Up next? Ninja Gaiden Black!

Good grief is Mega Man Powered Up unforgiving. Elecman was mopping the floor with me for a bit. Time Man's stage is the thing nightmares are made of (Luckily his weakness really whomps him. I literally got to him with like 3 pegs of life on my last life and still won), and Gutsman stage almost had me throwing the PSP out the window. Didn't beat it. Better left for later I think. :)

Few things about Nightshade:
1) Camera made bottomless pits impossible to see
2) Lock-on system often locked onto a very far away enemy for no reason, so if all you've got left at your disposal is a kick and that doesn't get you all the way over there, you're going to fall in that pit you can't see.
3) Enemies that block make you fall in bottomless pits you can't see.
4) Levels are completely uninteresting. At least Shinobi had legitimate attempts at environments. They all felt different. In Nightshade, it's industrial complex after industrial complex, and then you get to play the shitty boat level.

Now, for the Ninja Gaiden masters in the house. I beat the game when it first came out and really haven't touched it since. I just beat chapter 3 and was getting pretty rocked. Any tactics / suggestions for general combat that I may have forgotten about or simply never known?

Lemme guess.... flying swallow. flying swallow. flying swallow. Or at least, back in the noob days, that's what I did over and over and over. Doesn't work. You really need to learn a variety of moves. Running on walls is more important than even in this iteration, and... at least for the first stages, the whole running up the wall and then slashing downward move is invaluable. Square, Square, Triangle, Triangle, Triangle (or as much of that as you can perform with your current sword level) is my personal favorite move.
Good tip. I forgot I still have my wife's co-worker's copy of Black. Maybe I'll give that a spin to compensate for my lack of PS3.

I wouldn't say it's leaps and bounds better at all. they're virtually equal, with the small edge to Sigma for adding Rachel and good graphics. I find the new weapon is interchangeable with the dragon sword, but the animations for it are pretty cool. so yeah, very good choice on not splurging $700+ after taxes :)
as for survival, counters are the most overlooked key moves in the game. They take some good timing-- when you block an attack, there's a small flash between you and the enemy and a clang sound-- hit X or Y right when you see the flash or hear the clang if you're looking elsewhere. there's a tiny window of opportunity for it and you have to really watch closely for that flash. this makes busting out of a crowd of enemies very easy and takes the risk of getting attacked away, since you're invincible during most of the counter animation.
blocking and rolling correctly are also key-- when possible, don't block, but roll out of the way of an incoming enemy and attack when they whiff.

You're using like 40% of it's potential.Buying a PS3 made me want to buy an HDTV. Once I got one, there is no going back to an SDTV.

Nah, it's not 4:3 most of the time. It's some bizzare ratio inbetween 16:9 and 4:3, leaving you with thin back bars on the side.
Apossum, yup, I'll give those tips a try. By normall tactic is block and then at an openining XXX,YYY, or try to get that swoop up and dowardward thrust with 2 Ys. You have to be blocking to roll, correct?
yep, hold block + any direction on the analog stick. also after that "swoop up" launching attack, hit X 3 times to slice them in the air, then do the downward stroke. it's a guaranteed kill.
Edit: get the westinghouse Whoknows! and prepare to never be able to look at an SDTV again without feeling you just contracted herpes. or something.

What brand? Not telling, but it isn't some Vizio, Sony, Samsung, etc.
I'll just say it had a small scratch on the back (which is why it was on the scratch and dent area) and my Dad bargained the guy to get it for $500 (the TV brand new is $750-$850). Mostly its a good TV, but I really want a Sony 1080p one. After I finish college and get a good job, I will buy one. I love hooking the TV up to my Sony surround sound 5.1 channel speakers. :D
I played some Super Stardust HD earlier this morning. When I played VT3 or other 1080p games, for some reason, they appear to look better in 1080i to me. I usually play my upscaled DVDs, PS1/PS2 games at 1080i, but I should probably try 720p.

What about Vizio?Don't buy Vizio. My Dad just bought one 2-3 months ago. The TV completely stopped working last week. My Dad wasn't able to get it repaired (of if he did, it would costs $150 and take 8-10 weeks to repair). So, he just took it back to Sam's Club and they gave him back his money (he spent $500 on it, it was a 32" btw) in store credit, and added an extra $130 store credit (brining the total to $630).

Amazing isn't it? I remember telling you that a long time ago and to get one. You were just kidding yourself by not having one. You weren't seeing what the PS3 could really do. HD just makes everything look so damn good, it really adds the "final touches" to the games that SD can't. If you ever go back to SD just to compare it will look really shitty, that you never would of noticed until after playing on HD. Anyway what do you have it set on? 720P, 1080P, 1080I?

I'm in the Rosa desert in Chapter 10. I hit two quick save points, and my save point is now "Near the Monument" or something like that. I have run into an invisible wall dead in the middle of the only path available to me. Is there a cutscene that I'm not triggering, or am I missing something I have to do previously? I really hope my game hasn't somehow gotten hosed up, cause there's nothin like playing 30 hours and then just giving up.

nope. There were a bunch of changes i didn't like, a bunch of little glitches I found along the way, and Rachel's missions were boring.
oh, to add-- I was smacking around every enemy with the Unlabored Flawlessness since chapter 9, had max ninpo (5), and max health for the last 5 or 6 chapters. I guess that's another thing-- it's much easier, even on normal. So would you be interested in trading the game now that you've beaten it........(puppy dog eyes)
sorry, beating normal is just the beginning :) now there's mission mode, hard, very hard, and master ninja mode; as well as the DLC coming out.

well...I technically beat that. after I beat normal, I went back to my final save, died 3 times, and fought the very last boss on Ninja Dog. and got a ranking of Ninja Dog at the end  (I don't think you can get anything over it...right?)

I'm trying to save up enough for the big ass whoopin paddle...would it be better to wear the ribbon that gives me extra essence..or the one that lets my UTs charge up faster?

i'm not sure how much extra essence the ribbon gives you, but full UT's give you lots of cash. I usually wear the faster UT armlet when I play...

Gonna try to hit up hard mode on The Darkness.
Just beat it on hard mode a couple hours ago. Wasn't nearly as hard as I thought it'd be.

after killing some enemies (when there's enough essence to do a full UT), put some space between yourself and the gang, absorb the essence and try to get a full UT off on the whole pack. it's tough to do since the enemies almost always strafe you, but you can usually bait a few of them into it, and kick the crap out of the one or two guys left.

Finally started in on the GBA Fire Emblems. Unfortunately it's a little rough compared to Path of Radiance (shocking), but still fun. I'm guessing the handheld ones move a lot quicker than the console iteration, judging by the save files on my used copy - Chapter 18 in 6 hours? Wow! Took me something like 40-50 hours to finish 28 chapters on the Cube. Not that it will bother me if it's shorter.

I finished Aegis Wing on Insane with a group of random people on Xbox Live. The only achievements I need are Ace (Earn 185,000 points) and Teamwork (Score 10,000 points while attached in a level). I also decided to finish off Marvel Ultimate Alliance on Normal; I put the game off back in May and I guess I was near the end of Act 4. It only took me an additional 1.5 hours to complete the game. That's one less game off my backlog.

I just started Jade Empire. I wish I had known how amazing it is. I thought it was going to be like kotor, not like the perfect cross between fable and kotor. This game rocks and for the first time in a long time I have to force myself to put down the controller.

I <3 Fable
I remember a couple years ago, I got a huge urge to play it and picked up the lost chapters. I played it for about 2 months straight on my 360, and turned my guy into this ultra, super good, god-like character.
Great game that I think is under-appreciated. Can't wait for Fable 2.

Master Ninja is the highest ranking you can get on a stage correct? I am really liking NGS although it does have it's problems here and there. The mid loading is whats kind of lame IMO. I still think I am going to keep it and NGB for Xbox.

I keep switching off between Ninja Gaiden Sigma and Shinobi. They're both so good. I wish Sega would make a new Shinobi that wouldn't be mediocre. I really like the way they did it where the more you kill the stronger your sword gets. Makes you feel all cool when you take out a boss in 2 hits :-P

Im now playing Resident Evil 4 on my Wii. There is so much to do after you beat the game. I prefer everyone to buy it if they own a Wii.
Just finished a session of Virtua Tennis 3 and Forza2. I somehow managed to squeeze more Puzzle Quest in this weekend too, wedged in between taking the kids to swim class, the beach, and going to someone's first birthday party.
Just about 100%ed Super Princess Peach (DS) over the past couple days. Fantastic game. It's short to just get through the levels and beat it, but it has a lot of stuff to do after that 'final' battle. I don't 100% a lot of games, but this one stayed fun for me.
Starting to realize I'm a massive fan of 2D platformers.

I beat Mega Man Powered Up over the weekend on "normal". Goign through the eay levels and collecting the bosses as playable characters. Something is the save life is liksted as me having like 13/416 or something and I have no idea what that's even referring to.
Great game though.

Just started to get back into Marvel Ultimate Alliance, never had any interest to get past the second level. I'm also starting to play Rainbow Six Vegas online a lot more and have gotten a lot of the achievements, I'm also trying to complete the single player mode on realistic.

Popped in Dino Crisis 1-- blech! so outdated....
also started Final Fight Streetwise--- so far, it's living up to the ridiculous review relentless rolento (alliteration ftw) posted a while back. The review forgot to mention that Kyle sounds exactly like Solid Snake, but "hardened by the street" in the most generic way possible  I genuinely enjoy it so far-- pretty good for a 3D beat em up.

I was planning to get a 3D beat em up awhile ago after playing Yakuza but they all got not so good reviews. I was leaning towards Urban Reign though.

yeah, you can't go by reviews for these games. Beat em ups are supposed to be mindless, stupid fun as they always have been, yet reviewers kill them for this. didn't IGN give Godhand a 3.5? 'nuff said.
Urban Reign looks great..very cheap now too. I've been meaning to play that and Yakuza

Yakuza has is story driven which is why I was drawn to it at the beginning. Great game...too bad Yakuza 2 still hasn't been confirmed for the US.
And Urban Reign has been sitting at Best Buy for $9.99 for awhile. Can't bring myself to get it though

Ok, this is going to sound like the ultimate nerd thing but....a while back I bought Street Fighter Alpha 3 max for the psp at EBgames. It had no box, but I was so desperate for it.
Now, I can't stand how much it sticks out, so I tracked down an EB that had it with a box, bought it, and now will return the boxless version.
I feel shameful
