I had to travel to Savannah, GA on business recently and I saw a chain of gas stations in that area called EL CHEAPO. When I saw their logo it reminded me of CheapAssGamer. The logo was a cartoony donkey and its hind legs were kicking and bucking a big dollar sign. It was so funny. That logo would be perfect for CAG because a donkey is an "ass". haha!

Yes, it can be bigger, but should not really big like a banner. It does not need to be that shape, it can be round or whatever...

My thinking is that the logo will be placed the top right hand corner of the front page.

I believe that the 2 for using the logo includes the 1 for best design, so it is only 3 games being given as prizes. Also, I don't think it is likely that the best design would win as the best joke entry, as a joke entry is not so much a funny entry as it is an entry that is not to be taken seriously (although hopefully it would be funny as well). Still, you shouldn't let that deter you, design away.

I'm sure CheapyD could work that out. That seems reasonable to me. And if you're logo is used (you get 2 games - valued at $100) I'd say the same rule would apply. As many games as $100 can carry you.

Also, I think Gothic Walrus's logo is more serious than joke. I think it's the best logo I have seen so far, but I don't see in any way how it is a joke. I think his should win (well, I haven't seen the other serious entries) and be put on the main page.

CheapyD, I think you should put a little store together, and put the winning logo on a t-shirt or something. I'd definately buy one and wear it to school if the winner were Gothic Walrus's (as it does not say "ass" for school). I'd buy one no matter what for outside of school and stuff like that. I know of plenty a news story reporting a company going after "average joes" for copyright infringment (microsoft being a big one that goes after anyone...even if it's a pro-microsoft site). It happens all the time.

There are "fair use" laws concerning copyrighted property. You can use logos of other such companies for fair use such as promotion of their products. Using it to associate your brand with it is not fair use...such as putting someone elses logo inside yours. A store that sells Xbox items would be fine using the logo in promotional material such as a print ad. You dont need permission to do that.

The CheapAssGamer logo needs to be unique and its a stupid topic to even discuss since that should be extremely obvious. Not only is it common sense but he posted it plainly in the rules.

What does the "number of posts" have ANYTHING to do with the legality of using copyrighted trademarks?

I appologize for speaking for CheapyD. If it were up to me - and it's not - I would not allow or even consider a submission with trademarked logos. But that's just me. Although, I was trying to make a point that CheapyD did state that he'd prefer that they not be used.

Dimensions don't matter if the logo is bigger than what Cheapy wanted. In fact the bigger the better cause then you can shrink it to whatever you want and still have a large logo for other things.

He said submission date was the 16th, he didn't say he would post them right away. He is probably going through all the entries and deciding which ones he likes best and then when he is done with that I think he said there will be a poll to help decide which one to pick, though the polls really don't decide the winner CheapyD has the final say... which he should seeing it's his site ;)

I'm not really doing graphics design for a living, but I have completed three years of college for an associate degree in multimedia. I've actually done more than Photoshop in college, I also took quite a few 3-D classes using Maya.

I'm at Sacramento right now on a slow ass connection. Scored a lot of games from Circuit City to use it for the EB Games trade in. I just wanted to point out tha it should not be a public voting. It won't be fair because people that made banners could ask people who didn't to vote for them and they might listen.

You should make it so it's impossible for any kind of cheating to take place. But it's up to you, so whatever you do we have to go by. This is just a suggestion.

Sorry for the delay, I've had some major issues with the site, including having the front page comments getting spammed like a mofo from these Viagra and penis enlargement bastards. I think I have that problem fixed, and you should notice a general increase in site speed as of this afternoon (entirely different issue).

I also had a problem with Windows Explorer on my home PC crashing when I try to orgainze these logos. I read somewhere that it has a problem with Adobe Illustrator files and I wasted time trying to deal with
that too.

My apologies and thanks to all of you who spent time working on these logos, it is greatly appreciated.
My goal is to have the finalists up by Friday.

Hold your horses and let him look through them all. He did get 200 replies, which I think means EMAILS of stuff, not total number of pics. Correct me if I'm wrong, but a marriage and the superbowl are WAY more important (and fun, well, planning the wedding wont be) than surfing through a bunch of logo's.

I know you guys think that running this site just entails posting deals, but I assure you that is not the case. There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes that is more imporant than this logo contest. Trust me.

I would have told you such; it's the same reason I refused to enter defender's contest. Half of the people that submitted 20 logo's designed all crap, anyway, and are just doing anything to pad their chance to win.

I couldn't agree with the winners of that contest, because the new costumes looked like there were hardly any alterations from what she looked like originally. It seems like there the winners seemed to be picked at random.

But I don't think that will happen here, since what the contest asked for was a logo to help identify the site.
