Saw this online, not sure if it's B&M as well.
Prices beat the DDD 20% sale by a couple of dollars and I've hardly ever seen these sets on sale at a B&M after release.

It's on the second page for Music, Movies and Games. Doesn't mention TV shows but it should be worth a try. Also says discount for regular prices only but in my experience it should fly unless a cashier tries to intervene.

Oh yeah, Best Buy is also running a promo starting today and throughout the summer where you get a $10 certificate for every $100 spent on music, movies and games. You have to register for it and from what I can tell the certificate is only good on music, movies and games. If you take the survey when registering, which is really short, they'll credit you so you only have to spend $90 to get that first $10 certificate.

Just got back from the store and IT IS CONFIRMED IN STORE!!!!!
EDIT: Also, apparently if you're reward zone member, there's a survey to fill out on the site that supposedly gives you a $10 credit on your first $100 purchase. I did the survey but I didn't see the credit on my account and it wasn't given to me at the store. I'm not sure how long it takes to get the credit on the account, or if I'm supposed to receive it in the mail. Just an FYI.

If you sign up, for every $100 you spend you get a $10 certificate, but since its a Reward Zone thing you probably have to wait 30 days before getting it. What the survey did was it took $10 away from the $100 you had to spend, so now if you spend $90 more you will get it.
If you click on the Summer of Entertainment button at myrewardzone.com you can see you have $10 on your meter.

Do the Justice League cartoons made by the people who made Batman and Superman TAS, and do they take place in the Batman/Superman TAS universe?
Yes Justice League S1 and 2 and Justice League Unlimited are both on the Batman/Superman TAS universes. They are done by the same people and the quality of stories you expect from them, in fact they are better in many aspects.
Justice League Season 1 is the only one that is not "as good" as the others but still good enough to be worth owning.

Great deal guys. I own all the DCAU shows and I got Batman: The Animated Series, Batman Beyond and Justice League and JLU almost immediately when they came out. They are FANTASTIC shows that should be in every animation fan's library. DO NOT over look Batman Beyond as it is unique and quite awesome. DCAU is phenomenal and I can't recommend it enough.
Also, don't forget the movies one day to round your collections out. Mask of the Phantasm, Sub-Zero, Mystery of the Batwoman, and Return of the Joker Uncut (which is especially outstanding).

I filled out the survey and then went to the store. Odds are that the system simply isn't that fast so I'll check over the next few days to see. Right now, as I check my reward zone account, I don't see that $10 in the meter. Of course, it doesn't register the 100 I spent today either.

* Possible 10% off opportunity.
It definitely works, but check this out!
In store there are signs that say ALL seasons of Batman: TAS are $15 as well as signs that say ALL seasons of Batman Beyond are $15. I pointed this out to clerk so I got Batman Beyond S2 for $15. I pointed out the 10% coupon worked on the other two seasons of Batman Beyond so she manually took off another 10%. $13.50 for each. I also picked up Justice League for $18 each.
Unfortunately Batman TAS 2-4 were not in stock in my area, so I took a camera phone picture of the sign on the off chance Circuit City would price match. THEY DID. The guy laughed at first because the picture was blurry, "What am I looking at here?" But he gave it to me anyway. They had seasons 2-4 and gave me the 10% difference, so all those seasons for $13 each. It's the summer of George!
I still need Batman TAS S1, but I might just use another coupon for that and get it for $13.50 at Best Buy. 50 cents more expensive but might be worth putting it towards that $10 for every $100 summer deal. When does it end anyway?
Also some advice, for JLU S2 and all seasons of Superman TAS, they're about $15 each from DDD when they offer the 20% off deal. So if you can't find those, I wouldn't bother buying online since BB shipping isn't free.

I am pretty pissed at BB atm.
Went to the store, and saw where Batman: TAS always sat, empty. Had a sign saying Volumes 1-4 were $14.99. Asked a clerk if there were any in back or anything. Guy didn't really seem to know what we were talking about; it is sorta hard when there are about 3 different animated batman shows. He left, came back and said they never got any in store.
Went to check it online (which has 2-4 at $5 more than in-store which I think is ridiculous), and there are NONE (according to the website) in pretty much all of Nor-Cal. So on top of paying an extra $15 for three sets we needed, we paid $6 in shipping as well. And it's not advertised, so I didn't bother trying CC to PM.
I did have a $15 GC (from a mistake they made before), so that made it a little better (something like $17 a set for 3 sets). But I still think it's lame, even though I know there is nothing that could really be done about it.
Oh, just checked out their policy:
What if I find a lower price at another Best Buy store or on BestBuy.com?
If an item you purchased at Best Buy is advertised at a lower price at another Best Buy store in your local area or on BestBuy.com within 30 days of your original receipt purchase (14 days for select categories*, 60 days for HDTVs purchased from 6/3/07 through 9/29/07), we will refund you 100% of the price difference. Simply bring in your original Best Buy receipt to the customer service counter while that lower price is still in effect.Looks like we can perhaps still get the $14.99 price... wait, it says if it was purchased online at a lower price... wonder if it works the other way around.

It's actually the same in store. The sets don't ring up as $14.99 except S1. Most BB stores don't carry Batman TAS or Superman TAS for some reason. That's why I took a picture of the in-store sign and used it to PM at Circuit City.

All I can say about Batman Beyond is that all of my friends way back when have either never seen it or could recall some particularly excellent episodes. Almost all of them pointed towards the one with the return of Mr. Freeze as the reason they started watching/continued watching the series. Good lord.
And this is a bit extra but if anyone really loves the music from the series the best way to go about it would be to hit up iTunes for the soundtrack to Mask of the Phantasm. It only has music from the movie and it has a short running time but Shirley Walker's work just shines throughout. The first track alone...and not a bad purchase for $10, truth be told, for something OOP.
Batman Beyond got a lot of crap for being a "futuristic' batman and starring a teenage Batman, however even by following the Networks requests they made the show just as dark or even darker than their previous shows. Fans often say Season 2 of BBeyond has the weakest episodes however it is also the season with the most episodes. An excellent show.
Justice League S1 has a few stinkers since they were getting used to working with so many "heroes" but its not bad, and they nailed it with JL S2, JLU S1,S2.
I agree that ROTJ was the best Batman movie. I'd say Batman Begins is second, though.
Oh I wasn't counting live action movies, however as much as I liked BBegins superheroes work a little better as cartoons than realistic movies. Can't wait for The Dark Knight though.

i just realized that only batman v. 1-3 are the original 80-some-episode run of Batman: The Animated Series and that v. 4 is from The New Adventures of Batman or something. i don't even recall seeing that on TV. anyone who has v. 4 care to share an opinion on whether or not it's worth keeping? i know $20 is a great price, but does it measure up to B:TAS? the style of animation looked like teen titans, and I dunno if I think that's a good thing.
Vol. 4 is really good, the animation is different but the stories are still good. I might agree that it is the weakest of the 4 sets however it also features some of the darkest episodes. I don't want to say more without spoling anything. You also get dick grayson become nightwing and tim drake being the new robin.
you can't go wrong getting it, it was done by the same people.
jrt1138

Volume 4 is actually my favorite. I love the redesigned characters, especially Batman himself and Mr. Freeze (already an excellent design and by far the best villain in the series.) The set is worth buying just for the "Holiday Knights" episode.
romeogbs19
07-04-2007, 02:01 AM
well, if your best buy doesn't price match, you can find JLU seasons 1 and 2 as well as JL season 1 for $19.99 on Amazon. Oddly, JL season 2 isn't $19.99 but is at best buy.
I picked up JLU Season 1 off Amazon. Needed to pick up some law school books so was able to nab free shipping. This is the only one I grabbed. I figured the Superman TAS can be found for $15 later in the year over the holidays and I don't have much money and was told the JLU seasons are better than the JL seasons.

Eh it's alright. Thanks bro. I ended up buying Seasons 1-3 of B:TAS ( I heard 4 sucks) and BB S 1.
S4 is actually quite good. A lot of the redesigns suck (Batman's and Batgirl's redesigns are probably the only real improvements in my opinion) and some of the animation is sub-par (the reason is that S4 was produced years after the first three seasons, and part of the deal to create new episodes was a lower budget per episode forced them to make redesigns that were easier to animate). A few of the voice actors changed but it's remarkable how many of the same people played the same characters, even all the way through JLU.
However, there are a lot of extremely good or plain fun episodes, including two of my favorites, Legends of the Dark Knight (I'm a huge Dark Knight Returns fan) and Over the Edge. Joker's Millions, Growing Pains, The Demon Within, Old Wounds, Girl's Night Out and Mad Love are all great episodes, too. There are some stinkers, too, like Critters but the commentary on the episode is worth a listen (listening to the creators wonder why fans hate the idea of Batman battling giant insects is pretty fun).
i just realized that only batman v. Batman v. 1-3 ran typically in the after school weekday timeslot on Fox. A couple years later when the WB launched, Batman switched networks to WB Saturday morning cartoons. It was aired side by side with Superman: TAS as part of The New Batman/Superman Adventures (with the greatest cartoon theme song ever) and the WB contracted an extra season of Batman with a lower budget (as I wrote above). The last season of Batman:TAS is actually titled either The New Batman Adventures but some of the creators refer to it as Batman: Gotham Knights. It doesn't really look like Teen Titans. Teen Titans looks a lot like anime, with exaggerated expressions and the quality of animation is actually higher. Still, it's made by the same guys that did v. 1-3, Superman TAS and JL/JLU. Teen Titans is made by mostly different group with a different target audience.
Personally, I obviously like S4. It has some throw away episodes, but I thought there were a lot in the series run anyway.
I don't have much money and was told the JLU seasons are better than the JL seasons. JLU is good but it's different. JL concentrates on the core seven characters and JLU tends to rotate around a lot of characters including lesser known heroes. JL has mostly one hour stories and JLU focuses on longer story arcs. JLU also uses a lot more computer animation. It makes things cheaper for them but I like hand drawn art a lot more.
Story-wise, JL S1 is fun but it isn't polished. JL S2 is excellent and unfortunately, there is an important story arc in S2 that plays roles in several JLU S1 episodes that will spoil things for you if you go back to watch JL.

Sorry, I'm a little too young to remember the older Batman: TAS Volume 1-3. I was actually kind of disappointed that after watching a couple of episodes from the first 3 volumes, they were older episodes. I'll probably get around to watching them later this summer. I grew up watching The New Batman/Superman Adventures, so Batman:TAS Volume 4 is the one I always wanted and will like.

Volume 4 is oustanding.
Just watch the episodes Over the Edge and Mad Love. Those are IMO the best episodes in all of Batman. The art is more streamlined and the models look WAY better for the most part. No more of the overweight look for Bruce Wayne and most of the other men. The redesigned Scarecrow is amazing. I think the animation and fight choreography is much improved in Vol. 4. as everything is just so crisp. This is the style the leads to the eventual look of JLU, which was refined further. I wish season 1-3 looked as sharp. I still love those though.

a little too young? you're making me feel old...I'm only 21 you must be VERY young to not remember it... oh well...
Watch an episode of the other volumes though, even if you didn't grow up with them and don't have nostalgia over them its the stories that get you into the show. Almost everyone agrees that the show is THE best take on the Batman character.

I Might splurge on Volume 4. I guess if I really desire it after volumes 1-3 I can pay full price. I'd rather just buy Beyond 2-3 now, then just get Beyond 2 and Batman 4.
How's the Superman show? I've never really been a fan of Superman ( i actually kinda hate him :P) because of the lame ass villians, but if they're portrayed as cool as Clay Face and Joker were then I might splurge....thoughts?

Superman has a problem with finding worthy villains (I mean, he's basically a god). The solved it by using Kirby's Fourth World characters as major villains in the show, namely Darkseid. The Superman/Darkseid arc is probably my favorite in all of the DC cartoons. It goes from Superman TAS through several Justice League episodes. Brainiac is a good villain for Superman, too.
The last season of Superman TAS, Vol. 3, is by far the best. It has some Apokolips episodes as well as a lot of crossovers (including two notable ones with Batman). Highly recommend it if you only pick up one set.

What kind of world is this where they advertise things not everyone can afford?
I actually think Vol. 3 of Superman is as good as a good season of Batman TAS. I love Batman TAS, don't get me wrong, but there were a lot of stinker episodes in every season people conveniently forget. By the third season, they really figured out how to make Superman's world interesting. And for some reason, The Parasite is probably one of my favorite villains. I guess it's hard to take a villain seriously when people call him Rudy.
Growing Pains - is one of my favorite episodes in the series.

I want this deal in store, damn it. I went to all the BBs in my area and they either have the ones I bought today - mainly Season 1 of Justice League (of America) and Season 1 of Unlimited. No store had Season 2 of Justice League (of America) or Unlimited. All stores were sold out of Batman TAS other than the one copy of TAS Season 1 that I found that was in good condition. Most stores still had Batman Beyonds, but their supply had also dwindled. The CCs were also out and the same goes for Walmart for the few seasons of any of the animated shows that they carried. I'm going to try to PM at Fry's tomorrow if I can/if they have it.

I've also never been a big fan of superman however TAS is very good and enjoyable. In fact it sets up a lot of villians from JL so I'd watch it before any JL sets(not a requirement of course). They actually make Superman an interesting character, the tone of the show is different from batman but not in a bad way.
It might be one of the last sets you buy if you dont like the character but you should def. own it at some point, its worth it.

Edit-Scratch that. I was out this afternoon and stopped in a different Best Buy and managed to find Seasons 2-4 of Batman. Not only that but they still had the incorrect sign up saying it was $14.99 each for seasons 1-4 so after a quick price adjustment I got seasons 2-4 for $45 total.

Epilogue is probably the best Batman-centric episode in the JL/JLU series. One of my personal favorites. If you want to be more completist, the Batman Beyond World makes another appearance in a time traveling episode I can't remember. Some pretty funny bits seeing Batman interact with old Bruce Wayne.

Yeah, it confuses some people. JLU S1 is actually S1 and S2 in one set. Thus, S2 is actually S3. Hope that clears things up ;-) If you want to get even more technical, some ppl reference the entire JL as one series, so JLU S1 is S3 after JL S1 and S2. :-)

Some of the JLU stuff was good (I really liked the Jonah Hex episode), but overall, it really seemed hit or miss to me depending on who it featured. JL had a few good moments, but I just couldn't ever get into it. I never understood the inclusion of Hawkgirl, and I didn't like that they used John Stewart for GL instead of Hal. It always felt to me that they were trying to recapture the magic of Batman with Superman, JL, JLU, and Batman Beyond but could never quite get there. It might just be a matter of taste, but I'd argue the JL series is -- at its best -- on par with Batman TAS and sometimes better. I agree with you. I never got into JL or JLU because the storylines were just all over the place. Too many characters and backstories I guess. Batman TAS was more focused and, to me, more "darker," which I appreciated because I always thought of Batman as a great example of the classic Greek tragedy.

The Epilogue one was the final episode of S1 (or S2 i guess since the boxed set represents both S1 and S2). I totally hear your view and sorry if it sounded like I was "jumping" on you -- by no means was I doing that. Like I said, you're entitled to your opinion. I agree it's a matter of taste and preference; JL is certainly different from Batman TAS. There's no way you can have the centric storylines of that series in a show that has dozens upon dozens of characters. IMHO, JL does a fantastic job of realizing characters in the timeframe it has vs. what most shows do (focus on a select core and do it for seasons on end). And may be it's something about the Batman but I'm tired of the character in general -- so JL represented a fresh eye towards many new characters and well, it always kept it fresh since there was so many to see and hear from.
Again, you're entitled to your opinion. IMHO, Batman TAS is very good -- near perfect at times -- with realizing storylines controlled and building on a few central characters. JL and JLU, on the other hand, I think is a much harder task to complete and an even harder story to tell with its many dimensions, faces and personalities. Given those extra difficulties, JL and JLU shine and are a forward evolution into the multi-layered story-telling found in more and more of today's shows. Batman TAS, in comparison, seem more simple and one-dimensional.

Thanks for heads up on restocking at B&M. Website says my store has them in now.
Got Batman season 4 today on a restock at my BB. Wish they had had season 2 and 3 though. Still, hopefully this deal will still be going tomorrow and I'll try either late tomorrow or sunday to pickup the other 2 sets at another BB as well as get season 3 of supes.

Wait, I thought there was a third season of JLU, but according to the sticker on JLU season 2, that is supposed to be the final season. Now I'm confused.
My bad, I meant to say second.

Batman TAS was 1 of the best cartoons of the 90's & one of my personal favorites,i thought the JLU was something that need to be done & way over due,as a DC comics fan, seeing all those superheroes & yes even the bad ones was something ive always wanted 2 see,my personal favorite episode was called "Clash",where Superman & Captain Marvel finally duke it out, in my opinion they shouldve had more episodes to do with those too wouldve been nice & now with the upcoming Superman : Doomsday dvd i just hope they capture the comic & do it justice & not water it down for kids

I am sorry to say but the DVD quality is pretty bad for a DVD release on the Batman Season 1 set. The picture quality just looks poor... it does not take away from the show's quality but it feels like i'm watching a really good youtube port. Bah maybe it's just me after all thoes Bluray movies but if they expected to charge $40 for this set (let alone $20) then they needed to do some touch ups. Thats my two cents, i am enjoying the actual content of the shows.

Just bit for Batman Seasons 2, 3, and 4, Batman Beyond Season 3, and JLU Season 1 on Amazon for about $95 total shipped, and Batman Season 1 and Superman Season 1 for about $37 shipped from Best Buy.
I want to get the rest of the Justice League and Superman box sets (especially after reading that JLU spoils some JL and Superman Episodes), but that sudden $130 was a stretch, I doubt I could cough up another $100 for unexpected DVDs.
Hopefully I'll be able to scrounge up at least a little more for the first two JL's before the sale ends (on Amazon at least)...

I liked that episode a lot, too. I was surprised to see Jerry O'Connel did Captain Marvel's voice. I think there were some legal problems getting Captain Marvel into the series earlier, because he was originally supposed to be the new league member in "Hereafter" but they had to use Lobo instead.

If you listened to the commentaries, they talked about how they had a lot of problems with cell dust. Namely, dust and other things just landing on cells when they were being photographed and it was especially noticiable since so much of the show was black. They said they figured out how to minimize it as it went on and eventually eliminate it when they went to computer coloring, but WB Home Video wasn't going to spend much money retouching this show. Heck a lot of their cartoons still aren't even on DVD.
Or were you talking about compression artifacts? Other than cheap menus in the first few volumes, I don't see any compression or transfer issues that aren't in all the Batman volumes.

So... volumes 1 and 3 from amazon for 14.99 each with free shipping and no tax, and volume 3 from buy.com with shipping, seems better then dealing with Best Buy, I might just do this myself if I can't find anything better.
Now, does anyone know if Batman Beyond Return of the Joker is included in any of the three volumes?

It isn't. I bought all 3 seasons and there is no Return of the Joker. Wish there was though.

Return of the Joker was a seperate movie than the shows.
I reccomend picking it up though as its a really great watch.
It ranks right behind Mask of the Phantasm for me...
You can even find it for cheap now...less than $5 at times. But make sure you buy the uncut version.....I cant stress that enough. The edited version just plain sucks.

Yeah, thanks for the heads up but I remember hearing about the butchering done to that movie a while back when it first came out and from seeing it on tv compared to a.... ahem... downloaded version I had once upon a time. But I added to the uncut version to a random order to complete the Batman Beyond set.
That is complete unless I forgot something besides the three volumes and return of the joker.

Well the episode of Justice League Unlimited titled "Epilouge" on the Justice League Unlimited season 1 set (the last episode on the set) which is basically the final episode of Batman Beyond which goes several years into Terry's future and we see a bit more of how being Batman affects him as well as some other things about the character and his origin. In fact the creators of the show did not think that there was going to be another season and created this episode as sort of the "end of the DC animated universe."
There is also part of the two parter on the same set (episode 13) called "The Once and Future Thing" which is a time travel episode and deals with an alternate future Terry and Bruce (and features some amusing interaction b/w Batman and "old" Bruce).
I personally found Justice League Unlimited to be a fantastic show overall so if you can add the first set to your collection it is probably worth it.
There is also a crossover episode (episode 40) of the series Static Shock which features Terry when Static ends up in the future and has to help Batman rescue an older version of himself. Of course, the Static Shock series has not properly been released on DVD yet.
And know you know....

I already had all of justice league and watched it fairly regularly when it was first aired, never watched static shock though. So my DC comics DVD collection consists of All of Justic league (both regular and unlimited), all of superman, and now all of Batman Beyond. I'm not sure if I want to bite on the Batman Animated series just yet though.
And I watched one episode of the new batman and haven't watched it since.
EDIT
And for some odd reason my Amazon order of Batman Beyond seasons 1 & 3, and Return of the Joker got a random 5 dollars off (as well as the free shipping).
Return of the Joker was part of that buy 4 for 3 deal, but I didn't get anything else to qualify.
Was there some other promotion I just failed to notice when I made my order?

you might have to email them as its a bit confusing.
First it was released as Return of the Joker in a snapper case with the edited version, fans complained and the Return of the Joker - Original uncut version came out (also in a snapper).
a little more than a year ago they re-released the movie in Keepcase packaging, however both versions now look exactly the same. The only way to tell is the back tells is by looking at the rating symbol on the back, if it says PG its the edited version if it says PG-13 its the undedited.

I finished watching Batman Beyond Season 2 yesterday, and put disk 1 of season 3 in my DVD player, but during the first episode it froze and returned to the episode menu before the credits were even over. I looked on the bottom of the DVD and it had several smeared white spots which I couldn't wipe off. I tried the DVD in my computer, and it just froze in the same spot.
I'm going to have to send it back to Warner Brothers since I wont be able to get to the Best Buy I bought it from anytime soon.

I took advantage of this Best-Buy deal to pick up volumes 2-4 of Batman TAS. Very satisfied with my purchase so far. I've been watching them all week, and I've only just gotten to the end of the second volume. With two more volumes to go, it will take me a month to finish it all. $60 well spent.
