I said I wanted to get three vistas, never said I got them. Because I obviously didn't have enough points to get them, and then they disappeared. So, I cant get them now. And Yeah, I do have a lot of time. I work 7 days a week 8 hours a day, and do nothing but sit on a computer.

I got 24,158 points playing legitly for about 5 days...yea it's a HUGE pain, and takes a LOOOOOOONNGG time (time you will never get back) but it can be done. There's NO reason people should be using bots/macros when you can play legitly and get all your points. If you really want the points, earn em legitly.

If Live Search Club ever gets more puzzles (at this point, I'm kinda doubting it) and fixes itself up, then maybe I'll try for a Zune

If you weren't so new here, you'd know I got the other thread shut down because I complained about all the cheaters.

I'm the last person to use any other method than the right one, and I ended up with 5000 points.

Good gravy. It's taking me a long time to actually earn points. My mom plays clink for me when I'm at school but when I get home, I play flexicon. It's taking a really long time. I have been trying to play everyday for as long as I can with out my eyes hurting. I finished Crosswire and Chicktionary. I both did them legit. Right now, I am playing all games legit and still earning little points. I hope they add more prizes for the 5,000-20,000 area. If I don't want a tee shirt, I have to wait until 20,000 for a Zune. Oh well.

I'd probably say all of those would be incorrect, but thats my opinion.
Confirmation email just means they got your "prize order" .. nothing more. They can decline your prize even after its shipped out by intercepting it back to their warehouse. Legit accounts have lost points, so its not just accounts that had a cheat of sorts in any form. If they likely banned for botting, I'd assume they would be able to see any other accounts via IP or something, but thats the only one I wouldn't say 100% for sure. Honestly though, nobody knows anything at this point.

At this point there are no guarantees... Legit accounts have lost points, people have received prizes without getting any sort of e-mail confirming their orders, and from what I can tell it's been awhile since any prizes have shipped. There's no rhyme or reason to the things that MS is doing with accounts or prizes.

I hope you're right but with all of those prizes on the line I think it's more like their looking for all of the accounts that earned the tickets the legit way and only sending the prizes to those people.

I don't really see how they could tell the difference if they weren't monitoring it which I am sure people would have been banned by now if they knew who the cheaters were.

In all honesty I don't think they would flat out deny the prizes to said people. First of all, the prize with the biggest demand would be Vista before the switch to the lame Home Premium version (not sure if it still is. It might be). Microsoft WANTS Vista to be in as many people's homes as possible, obviously without giving it for free. Even if people botted, the hits were still there, and they will still get money for those hits. By the time people got 6000 points for Vista Ultimate the company probably already had made a lot more than an Ultimate's worth just out of their search hits, bots or no bots.

Anyway, I've e-mailed them to ask if people who ordered Ultimate before the switch will still get Ultimate or the new Home Premium version. Still no reply but I'll get back to you whenever I get the answer.

Other than that, I don't really recommend people e-mail them about their orders. They always give the generic response of "it will be within 10 weeks", therefore not answering your question at all. Just don't bother.

We could all offer opinions until we're blue in the face. All we can really do is guess. Who knows. However, even basic webservers track pageviews by IP and even tell you what page directed you to them. I have little doubt that they have a log saying when you logged in and when you earned points...

Conversely, how do you look over the records of 3 million accounts? That end just doesn't seem feasible. The best I can gather is that they made a script to pick out people that earned over X points per hour and then look at those by hand or something...

If you're talking account by account verification, that could take 10 years, not ten weeks.

Another thing to consider is the sheer size of that data. It could be well over a terrabyte. While that isn't much in terms of corporate storage or even home servers (I have 1.5 TB) The fact that that would be all text... this post is probably 5KB if that... The effort to sort through it would be monumental.

Users of Microsoft Live Search Club claim that people are using macros and other software to automate Live Search Club queries for the sake of collecting prizes awarded for playing Live Search-based games. One such macro, LIVEMACRO, is described as "an unattended macro or 'bot' used for quickly winning club.live.com games. All it takes is a minute of configuration before it happily earns thousands of tickets for you." Presumably, this increases the number of queries processed by Microsoft's search engine.

But Compete claims its metrics are immune to software-based manipulation.

Microsoft says it is dealing with the issue. "As for click fraud, there is always a risk with these kinds of promotions, and we are working diligently to shut down any illegal activity," a Microsoft spokesperson said last week.

However, use of a macro or bot to play Live Search Club games, while it may represent a Terms of Service Violation, isn't necessarily against the law.

Indeed, Microsoft appears to recognize this. A screenshot posted yesterday on the Facepunch Studios Live Search Club forum shows what is purportedly an e-mail from a Microsoft Online Customer Service representative to a Live Search Club user. "I understand that legitimate players use cheat codes to obtain tickets in Live search club site," (sic) the message says, in what's either a poor choice of words or recognition that cheating is legitimate.

I think that's just badly worded. What I think they meant there was that legitimate players (i.e. real people and not bots) are using sites like anagramer.com or anagramssolved.com and they know it. That's sort of like "cheat codes"... it's not a bot or macro, the people are actually playing the game themselves... they just happen to have all the answers.

How do they define cheating? If I use a site to get the words to type in for Chicktionary am I at risk to have my points removed? My vocabulary isn't nearly what it would need to be to play the game without some online assistance!

I'm up to 7k now - I have a feeling by the time I'm done with this I won't want to see another word puzzle game for years!

I was out of town for a few days and missed the site being down for maintenance and all the people losing tickets. My tickets haven't changed, but then again I've been playing a lot less often after I ordered my 2 items so my balance was really low. And I do not have a 360 Gold subscription.

I wonder what the "set of criteria" is by which invalid activity is identified. It better not be speed of ticket accrual, since many of us who type like lightning breezed through chicktionary in mere minutes. And I was playing like a fiend when I first joined club live (like, hours a day).

Somehow I don't think it's as simple as that...people said they were losing points as soon as they played a game...I think it's a server glitch or something...especially since there are people who cheated that still have their points (ARGH) and people who played legitly, like myself, that don't have their points anymore, and for reasons unknown, can't log out

Yeah I've come across other big companies where you'd expect things to be related and they aren't. I had internet and home phone through Verizon, and even though they're billed together, one department has absolutely nothing to do with the other and they don't share records. Really annoying when one ends up having different info than the other and you try to fix it.

It's not statistically significant. There isn't enough of a sample size to indicate one way or another. Two answers don't count in the big scheme of things.

Same with both of my kids (they may actually have hotmail accounts though) But we also didn't use any bots, macros or type the answers in from a cheat sheet of solved puzzles any of which would be considered suspicious activity imo. Between the 3 of us we've received Vista Ultimate and a 360 Controller so far and have a Zune on order. Working on more points now for another controller. The puzzles really aren't that hard to do the right way.

It feels sucky that if you simply typed quickly the system went "too many points, fun=over". I managed to get the confirmation screen on flexicon when they implemented that, but that was more out of attempting to prove to myself that it existed (since before I read about it on this thread I hadn't seen it). I used google and dictionary resources for chicktionary and flexicon, but I also manually set a goal for myself of at least 1k tickets/day, sometimes reaching up to 1500 tickets per day. Like I've said before, as long as I get some stuff, they can have the 700 or so points I had left, I most certainly won't be bothering with trying to get Vista Home Premium.

If they dont ship the rest of my stuff cuz I type too quickly that is kind of gay. I cant see how hard it is for them to find the cheaters. On the terms and conditions the only thing I found about cheating is this:

Tickets or Rewards or in any Program-related materials. Microsoft reserves the right to disqualify Participants and void their Tickets if found to be tampering with or abusing any aspect of this Program or are otherwise not in compliance with the Terms as solely determined by Microsoft. All questions or disputes regarding the Program, including without limitation, those involving eligibility, participation, fraud and abuse will be resolved by Microsoft, whose decisions shall be binding on Participants.


This basically gives them the right to do whatever the hell they feel like, and it's not like they're doing it now anyways. If you complete a puzzle fast enough, they WILL delete your points whether it was from a bot, aide, or just pure speed.

It's very clear that they have no intention of actually tracking down cheaters. They know perfectly well that pure speed doesn't mean that you're cheating, but they could care less. They're just looking for excuses to delete your points. I'd also like to point out that they said Microsoft holds the right to disqualify points/prizes due to abuse or fraud or anything not in compliace with Microsoft's terms, but aside from that, they have no visible "terms" on what they consider fraud or abuse. They could delete legit points and say that they consider those to be fraud/abuse even if they're not, and they're already doing this.

In short, just forget about this goddamn promotion. Microsoft wants you to spend hours upon hours of doing the puzzles and if you manage to do it quicker (bots are an acceptable form of abuse, but not aides or pure speed. That's unacceptable), they'll just delete your points. Funny thing is, bots also give them search hits which they're getting money for, but when they invalidate your points, they don't invalidate the hits you gave them. They still keep those.
They just want to look for ways to keep your prizes and still get their money. Yet another way that Microsoft is ripping you off. Just don't bother and forget about this promotion.

Guys, no matter how fast you type, there is still going to be think time reading the clues and figuring out the answers that will be the limiting factor, not the typing speed. Unless of course you are just typing the answers in from a screen shot of a solved puzzle or anagrammer.com. I average about 3 minutes on a flexicon when I'm on a roll but I didn't lose my points, but then again some puzzles took longer than that when I would get stumped by a clue or two and have to switch to other squares solve the flexicon first then go back and fill in the missing answers.

There's still no indication that typing speed is what made people lose the points. If anything I would think repetitive patterns over long periods of time in solving the puzzles would be more the factor over speed.

I have a 360 so I ordered the controller with the adapter a while back. I also plan on using the controller with my PC. Would there be a problem using it for both? Yeah, I wouldn't count on there ever being enough points for the xbox360, considering all the cheating that's been going on. There wasn't initially enough points for it, then they started adding caps because of the bad people. Maybe one day they can ferret out the cheaters, then they'll raise the caps again, but you might as well consider it the electric lawn mower at Peter Piper Pizza: theoretically you can get it, but you know you'll never get close, and end up giving up for some parachute guys.

btw, what part of Ft. Wayne? My grandparents live out by the Amish community.

You can get help with playing the game, learn some strategy, etc.

There's also a Gold Rush solver that calculates what piece you should choose to win. You just have to be smart about how you use it. Like, if it tells you to choose something, think about what its telling you, because sometimes it spits out something that would make you lose for sure.

Whether or not you actually did is irrelevant as two of my accounts attest. Emailing them seems to get little beyond a poorly written canned email, if anything at all.

Theres really nothing we can do about it if you read the TOS. It essentially says they can revoke our points at any point they wish without explanation. Even if they don't, the TOS goes to further say they actually have no obligation to give you anything at all. Seeing how you agreed to the TOS by signing up, you can't sue or anything. Even better, theres a line in the TOS that says they can change the TOS at any time and you automatically agree to any future changes just by logging on after the change is made.

Long story short, legal bullshit keeps them from having to do anything for the thousands of search hits we give them.
