True you may not find it but if you do I can guarantee it will not be over 30.00
I have found many rare titles like ICO at Gamecrazy for 7.19. Gamecrazy doesn't use ebay as their pricing guide like gamestop and EB do. I use to love Gamestop but lately thier prices are just insane. Another example is a used Dark Alliance II for the PS2 is used for 49.99
I just don't shop their anymore.. I travel the extra 5 miles to the Gamecrazy stores.
For a cheapassgamer like myself I see no really good deals at GS and EB anymore

GameCrazy is a better value as a whole, but there's a big drawback with them too: at least here in Metro Detroit, the GameCrazy stores are a fraction of the size of their competitors and their selection sucks. If I walk into an EB or GameStop looking for a certain game, there's a good chance they'll have it (even if it is overpriced), but GameCrazy is very, very hit or miss.

The PS2 one is a port of the DC version -- odds are it just has to do with demand. Fact is the DC never sold that well vs. the PS2 which you have a huge consumer base for -- thus more ppl who are willing to fork $$$ for a game that's rare. You'd think it'd be the other way around. Of course, it still might end up that way many more years down the line when the games we have are considered collectibles like the NES/Atari cartridges of yore.

it was $69.99 instore before. i guess it went up $10 since then. this and Disgea 1 first print (until they reprinted them) was the most expensive game at Eb/Gs.
i actually passed on this several times at the store. i did buy it 2 years ago at $44.99 (-10% with the edgecard). managed to buy 2 of them (sold 1 on ebay for about $98). i wouldnt be surprised if Nocturne goes up as well cause that has a very big potential.

PS2 version is probably sought after now because it's the only version that's playable on a next gen system. You've got all these guys that got a PS3 because they just have to have it. Now, they're going after all the uber rare games so their collection will be "complete".

I still have my DC copy. It's crazy how much people will pay for it for PS2. Regarding which version is better? DC would make the most sense. The arcade version was done on the Naomi board. Dreamcast and Naomi are essentially the same "system". Thus, Naomi games on DC are pretty much arcade perfect. Both Capcom vs SNK games are also Naomi. I have both (import) for DC. I don't know the details, but have heard the PS2 MvsC2 was not a perfect port.

<shakes head>It amazes me that 2-D shooters, 2-D Castlevania games and Capcom fighting games are in high demand, but I always thought the whole point of new tech was to MOVE FORWARD?????
And to me, who kinda dislikes most things Capcom anyway, I have NEVER understood the fascination with 2-D anything from them, nor with the popularity of their Devil May Cry series, which to me had a broken camera.
But, to each their own, now if I could just find about 10 copies of this game to hoard and Ebay, I could buy a couple PS3's.

True. I have a friend who is addicted to this game.
I bought Swap Magic for 20 bux, downloaded MVC2 for free, and was like
"Look! I got a game $100 game for $20 bux!"
He wasn't impressed:
"Nah, I'm cool with my DC version, the PS2 has some slowdown issues."
I was like huh? Then I realized that he plays super fast with Magneto, Storm, Psylocke, Iron Man, Sentinal, etc. He'll do like a 50 hit air combo without breaking a sweat... and he's not even considered a top player.
Whats cool about the DC version of MVC2 is that you can make custom soundtracks. I mostly make heavy metal sondtracks, while my friends makes 80's tracks; transformers music, top gun, and music from other fighting games.
Also, I was able to find SVC Chaos (europe) for the PS2.

This has nothing to do with mergers or competition. This is about how much people on Ebay are paying for it--there's no way to drive the demand down now that the game is OOP.

Yes it has a TON to do with mergers and competition. Competition leads to lower prices. You think it is just some coincidence that prices have really skyrocketed on these "rare" games since Gamestop and EB merged?
Do you not remember how many rare PS1 games there were? What did Valk. Profile get to? Maybe $59.99 towards the very end of when they were carrying PS1 games. Same goes for Suikoden II. When EB was around and had close to as many game stores as Gamestop, they were NOT charging ebay prices. Why? Because you could go 20 feet across the mall and hit up another store that more than likely had the exact same game.
And yes, on this one game they might be $15 to $20 cheaper. Though you can find M vs C 2 for $89.99 quite often on ebay. Unfortunately on most other games they aren't.

If it isn't broke don't fix it. Most 2D series suck in 3D (Zelda, Mario, Street Fighter, Metroid, etc...) 2D fighting games are, to many, more enjoyable than 3D. I personally like the controls better; in addition, the colotful "drawn" look of 2D games is more aesthetically pleasing than the more drab look of so many 3D games. I like a lot of 3D games, but some things are better, and should remain, in 2D.

As many have mentioned the DC version is far superior.
There were a lot of problems with the PS2 port of MVC2. Slowdown is definitely an issue for the PS2 version. There are also stages (if I remember right) that cause slowdown in the PS2 version. On top of all that there are actually new glitches in the PS2 version (lag/inconsistancy in supers, Ryu's almost infinite fireball throwing, etc. etc.). I think there also might be inconsistancy in sprites sizes and combo timing/frames. One of the more interesting things is I believe the PS2 version actually took out the Juggernaut glitch.
I do understand why the PS2 version is in so much demand. PS2 owners who want to have this game will definitely pick it up as opposed to buying a Dreamcast for *maybe* 1 game.

A used DC and a copy of Marvel vs Capcom 2 would be approx. the same price for the game on the PS2 (going off of e-bay). Seems a bit much for one game that's much better on another system. And the DC has some excellent games for it and with a boot disc, you'd be able to play Japanese (and some PAL) games as well on it.

The DC version is the better port, but i'd still rather play the PS2 version, since I don't play competitively. I won't deal with the DC controller cause it gives my hands AIDS and I don't care enough to get arcade sticks and converters etc. for it.

Here's my current auction of it. I, like others here I'm sure bought it for 5 dollars at Circuit City back in 2004. As I still have the much better DC version, and plenty of convertors for controllers for the DC, I decided to let it go. As I type this there are over 4 days left on the auction and it's up at 47 dollars. I bet it looks nice upscaled via a PS3 but not that nice...

I got pretty lucky several months ago and found an eBay auction for 5 PS2 games for $55 shipped BIN, of which MvC2 (complete) was one. I sold the other four games for $25, so got MvC2 for net $30. I've owned the actual Naomi version of MvC2 in a Dynamo arcade cab, as well as the Xbox and DC versions in the past. Obviously, the real arcade version of MvC2 was tops, but I didn't have the space in my house to keep the machine at the time. I also had Capcom vs. SNK, Virtua Tennis and Guilty Gear X on the Naomi. When I build a house with a dedicated game/home theater room within the next two or three years, I intend to get a dedicated Naomi cab, since there are so many great games which can be easily swapped out for it.
I now play the PS2 port of MvC2 on my PS3, which is connected to a 57" 1080i HDTV. The upscaling on the PS3 does a pretty good job, and I'm happy enough with the PS2 port to not throw another console (DC) into my HT rack. I don't play MvC2 that much, but will not sell it, with the way the price has jumped over time.

I bought the DC version with a ASCII 6 button Capcom FT pad and a loaded VMU for the dreamcast for $31 on eBay. I also bought Street Fighter III: Third Strike for $17, Capcom vs SNK for $6, Power Stone for $19 and I'm going to buy a Dreamcast system for $15 at a pawn shop. The DC is definitely the bargain way to get great games on the cheap.
Also, does anyone know what anything about the Adaptec joystick vs. other joysticks for the DC? Thanks!

The PS2 has trouble reading blue discs because it uses 2 different lasers. That's why regular DVDs will work just fine but the PS2 won't read any blue discs. You just need to crack open your PS2 and adjust the laser a little bit. Or you can pay a guy $40 to do it for you and not have to worry about moving the wrong laser.

I have a launch fat PS2 and I've never had a problem with CD games (PS1 or PS2). The loud whirring of the drive is its sole annoyance.
In my experience, the only system that has had trouble with CD-based games was my PSone with ps1 games (discs won't load and the CD remains still in the system :bomb:)

I had to have the laser adjusted on my old fat PS2. I wouldn't have bothered but I needed to get my Virtua Fighter fix and Evo hadn't been released yet. Not saying they all suck, but alot of fat PS2 stopped reading CD-ROMs and just need a little readjustment.

How does the Xbox version compare with the PS2 and Dreamcast versions?
I haven't noticed much slowdown in the Xbox version (yet).
I believe it runs a smidge faster. The sprites are also bigger which affects combos, timing and so on.
The Juggernaut glitch is gone from the Xbox version I think. Also from what I've gathered from my fighting game buddies, there are some glitches that aren't in the DC version that appear in this version and the PS2 version. Though I think it's widely known (among fighting game fans) that the Xbox version is better than the PS2 version of this game.

something that really pisses me off about the xbox version is that the game does not take advantage of the system. where the hell was XBL and custom soundtracks?

something in the contract between Marvel and Capcom prevented the game from going online :bomb: stupid contracts.

I heard somewhere that Capcom wanted it to go on Xbox Live but Marvel said something about both versions being online or neither so we got neither....

From what I remember, any changes to the original MvC2 code such as Online Capability or Custom Soundtracks would require a new license to be purchased from Marvel. Apparently, Marvel was asking Capcom for way more money than what was offered for the original license. (I beleive this was around the time Marvel Films was really starting to become a very hot commodity; Blade II, X-Men, Spider Man, Daredevil, Hulk, etc.)
Capcom didn't want to pay the amount, so they just kept the game intact, assumed it wouldn't sell, and only printed in limited numbers. I beleive this also created bad blood between the two companies, that's why we'll never see a Marvel vs Capcom 3. Instead we got EA vs Marvel aka Marvel Nemisisy aka Marvel Smash Bros.

Bought it for XB when it came out for $39.99. Few months later was doing some trading and included it by mistake. The transaction was done and didn't want to do it over again. Figured I would pick it up again eventually no big deal.
Umm yeh forgot about it, and went to go get it about a year later and still can not justify paying more the $50 for it. If I find it locally I'll grab it.

Let's not say never. EA's licensce could run out and Capcom could come through with a one time offer for Marvel vs Capcom 3. Not saying it's probable but, at the same time, it's possible.

Indeed. I've walked into some and found nothing but junk...another had 3 copies of SMT: Nocturne at $12 apiece. Ya never know.
