I just got the latest Nintendo Power and inside was a preview for Battallion Wars 2 that stated it would have co-op for the main story and head to head multiplayer. This was news to me and thought it deserved a discussion. A new addition to gameplay will also be nautical warfare. The controls also sound perfect, as the wiimote aiming adds to the action/rts nature of the game. Allowing you to point to the unit you want to shoot or change to.
It did not state it in the article, but I hope they fix how you group and command troops. I can imagine the wiimote lending itself in the same manner as a mouse when on the map.
Apparently it is coming out in September. Although that seems a little sudden given the lack of press.
So what do you guys think? (And sorry if this is old news, I didn't see it posted anywhere else.)
EDIT: Wet Ninja Linked this IGN Article:

EB says the game got pushed back to October, so we'll see about that.

I've been looking forward to this game, I'm sure Nintendo will be showing this next week, so I'm really looking forward to what the press has to say about this game.

That's awesome. I still need to beat the first game though. I'm stuck.

That's awesome. I still need to beat the first game though. I'm stuck.I couldn't get through the first one... absolutely loved the concept, but the controls just weren't there for me. I'm hoping the Wii version will correct that, but at worst it'll have the co-op to carry it through - spread out unit control across two people.
Sweet, and a timely post too, since I just preordered this Friday night (using the Trade 2 Wii games deal at GS). Yeah, GS has the release date as 10/29 - so not just pushed back "to October" but almost beyond ;).

I was really hoping that co-op mode would be online, so I did some reading around. I found this article (http://uk.wii.ign.com/articles/727/727452p1.html), which says that co-op and two other multiplayer modes will indeed be online. Here's hoping the month-long delay is to polish the online gameplay.

It sounds like it'll be fun... hopefully when it arrives, it actually will be fun.
Online would've been nice though. Online is a nice touch but I'm wondering if I'll bother to try it online with Nintendo's damn friend code system.

batallion wars was one of the games i picked up and played this summer. i did have a really good time. and if the online goes well it could be one of nintendo's big titles. i'm very curious how it will go.

I wonder how many player co-op it'll support.

I wasn't interested in this until I heard it's going online. Now I'm very interested.
Hopefully the single player game has some more save checkpoints. I quit the first game out of frustration.

Hell yes. I never got the first one but always wanted to and with the new stuff like co-op, I am not going to pass the second one up.

So are we going to get a headset for the online co-op or a keyboard? Or will we just have 8 family fun preset phrases to use that won't allow online predators to capitalize on Nintendo's online network?

Use your DS as a microphone!

I really hope we get the headset.Unfortunately, as useful as it would be, I don't think Battalion Wars is a popular enough franchise to push accessories. They waited till Pokemon to throw one out for the DS. No clue where a headset would be supported until they activate those ignored USB ports.

USB mic would suck since the USB is on the unit, not on the remote. Boogie is going to have a mic and will use the nunchuck, so I'm assuming there is a solution (maybe the nunchuck will attach to the mic that will attach to the remote)
(edit to show that Boogie will actually come with a USB mic that will attach to the unit - oops - although I still think they should insert the mic/headset connection between the remote and the nunchuck assuming it is technically possible)
(from wii.ign.com - http://wii.ign.com/articles/790/790806p1.html)
Boogie will come bundled with a microphone when it ships later this year. The microphone is USB-based and will plug into the back of the Wii console. The game is designed so that you'll be able to choose whether you want to play dance mode or karaoke mode. Or, if you call a friend over, one of you can handle all the dancing while the other belts out bad vocals.

Was thinking the same thing. Bluetooth is only like, the most popular wireless headset technology EVAR.

Bluetooth is only like, the most popular wireless headset technology EVAR.I was actually still thinking wireless USB, but I guess there's no reason it can't use Bluetooth. I was trying to figure out how they would associate each mic with each player, but that's really irrelevant with voice chat.

It would be nice if Nintendo would just let us use any Bluetooth headset for online voice chat.

A Bluetooth master device like the Wii can only connect with seven other devices, so you couldn't have 4 controllers + 4 mics anyway.
Does Xbox Live support voice chat for all four players? I know it uses a different technology, so I would think it would be technically possible.

I don't know many games that would need to support 4 players online from the same console.

Online play just changed this game from a rent to a buy for me.
