Can't create master account help

So i just got my PS3 and finally got the network issues straight and i'm connected. However, i'm having troubles making a master account. When i enter my email address for the account, it tells me it is not a valid id. I've tried over and over and double and triple checked and it still gives me this error message.

I tried again changing around the letters to make sure i used case sensitive letters and still not working. i also tried my secondary account and it wouldn't work either.

i gotta be missing something here. do i have to register or anything first? what am i doing wrong?

cox cable. i'm using or trying to use the primary email i've used for years. i also tried my backup yahoo and it won't work either.

Maybe those accounts are not eligible. Maybe you can try gmail.
