Saw this very intriguing mystery thread over at GAF and felt we would all benefit with some discussion.
Perhaps E3 announcement?

It's actually based on a Haze developer diary from IGN. They have the video embedded in their report.
Basically, at two points in the video, a developer is playing a game with a blurred-out controller. Not quite enough to convince Kotaku, but if you look really carefully - and maybe it's just my imagination - but there are hallmarks of a rumbling controller. In the first instance, the developer puts the controller down with his left hand, and with no contact from the developer, the controller jolts to the right on the desk (the dev is 'getting killed' at this point, which might be in line with a violently rumbling controller :p)
The second bit is just afterwards..the developer hands the blurred-out controller to the other developer while driving a vehicle, and as he passes it, it looks like the controller is shaking..the pass-over is a bit fumbly, and the second developer expresses a surprised 'oh!' as this happens.
Both of these bits happen around the 10-11minute mark. At other points, the devs were playing it with non-blurred sixaxis controllers.
Apparently the vid was taken in May..make of it what you will, I think it's interesting though. If it is what's suggested, it looks like they moved very quickly to get the requisite stuff out to developers, and it would be pretty promising the controller releasing this fall/winter, along with supporting software.
And I think this is the actual video.

Possibly the worst name they could have used for the controller, worse then sixaxis. Shockaxis would be cooler, even dual shock 3 would be fine with me.

I thought Shock and Yaw was clever though, someone mentioned it once.
ShockAxis seems most likely.

Funny. Real Funny.
Anyways shockaxis does sound way to close to shock"asses". They should just get away from the whole axis love fest.

lol @ the title. This gen is all about PR and controller names. sony is finished.
the red PS button on the Motorstorm bundle box is more evidence of a rumbling six axis...why else would they randomly put a led in the button?

i believe the red home button on the ps3 controller has been in pr photos since before and during ps3 launch. At least I thought I remember seeing it. I guess their reason for continuing to have pictures with the controller with the red button was a sign of things to come?

Although I don't care for rumble much, I'm glad its coming to make PS3 more appealing to most. Some of the features of ShockAxis sound interesting and make it seem like it will be the best rumble ever, along with motion sensing. Can't wait. :D

Yeah, I'm interested in whether or not the Touch Sensitive or whatever tech Immersion and Sony were talking about makes a difference.

I'm sure it will super-duper awesome because the PS3 has it!!! I can't wait for the replacement program Sony will do so we can send in our old controllers for the new rumble ones!!!! Oh wait...

Why the hell didn't hey spend the time on the stupid L2/R2 half bumper half trigger things? thats what needs a redesign. I will relish seeing PS3 gamers finally have their controllers rumble and then that causing their fingers to slip off of those shoddy half triggers, rendering them pwned.

Yes you do. It took you a month to get the PS3 after launch. Did you not have a ride to the store? What happened? Sony was pretty upset about this.

Yes, as Ive stated many times Ive played Resistance and Motor Storm and several other games at my friends house who has a PS3 and uses it for games. He also have a 360 and Wii. So yes, I have played PS3 games. No I do not own any.

Honestly, I only ever cared about Rumble when the Dual Shock was first introduced in 97-98 and even then it lost it's nolvelty four fights into Tekken 3
However, I would like to have a heftier controller with better L2, R2 buttons (the ones on the PS3 controller are ass). Not sure if I would pay for such a controller, but it would be nice.

Meh, my guess is it will be as good as the Elite trade-in program (i.e. take a loss using craigslist) that you were so happy to do. Then again, Sony did offer a trade-in program for the Fifth Element, so it's possible we'll get something (highly doubtful though).

All this news about PS3 price drops and adding rumble to the controllers brings me joy. Maybe I'll finally pick up a PS3 around Christmastime this year. I'm beginning to think I made a mistake jumping onto the Wii bandwagon.

I know I made a mistake jumping on the PS3. Was honestly thinking, at the time, that the PS3 would still be $600 when MGS4 came out (my real reason to jump to next-gen). Kinda misguessed that. Ah well, still profited from the PS3, so no biggie.
Wii will make quite a showing at E3 too. PS3 just seems appealing because they have been horrible at keeping their big E3 secrets under wraps.

Welllllll...yes and no. I could probably create a decent backlog if I picked up every game I really wanted. Right now I could get RE4: Wii Edition, Mortal Kombat Armageddon, Sonic and the Secret Rings, and Medal of Honor Vanguard. Problem is the quality of said games. Of those four, RE4 is the only one I see myself enjoying, and the novelty of waggle controls has worn off for me. Add to that the fact that Nintendo is catering more and more towards the "casual" crowd, and you have one disappointed gamer.
On the other hand, the Wii is doing WONDERS for my budget. The last game I bought was Super Paper Mario.

Yeah, that's the problem, there are games I kinda want to try, but I know I won't really enjoy them.
Budget wise, it's a great system, just like my GC.

Yea, I have a feeling ill own it eventually. I bought my GCN when it hit the $100 price point. While fun, I still think I could've been fine without it. There aren't that many 'must have games' for me (on any system), so I usually just stick to one system.

That was my way of thinking as well. Seeing as the Cube was the system I played most last generation (and the fact that I couldn't afford a 360 or PS3 right away), I stuck with Nintendo. So far Twilight Princess has been the only gaming experience I've really enjoyed. Naturally I'll pick up Mario Galaxy, Smash Bros, and Metroid later this year, but unless some really big stuff gets announced at E3, those are the only Wii games I foresee myself buying.

Well, the Wii is brand new. E3 should give a good indication as to how this coming year will be.

I'm in the same boat as you man, that's how I know. Don't have a Wii, but have a PS3. I definitely don't regret it, but this first 8-9 months have been tough. Haven't really bought anything since launch.

Here's a gif of the action. One point of it.
Notice the blurred controller in the bottom that hits his left arm.
Some speculate it's just a cord being pulled, but others say you can definitely hear a vibration at that point in the video.
By eerie coincidence, it happens at the same time he's shot on the screen.
Why the blur? Why the blur?

Because it's a PS3 controller with a cock painted on it?

Clearly he's just telekinetic and can move small objects at will. That or he had a ps3 controller magnet injected into his arm.

I am not sure about the controller in that clip above, as it has a sixaxis shape, but I am pretty sure I saw some 360 controllers blurred out in other parts of that video. That would make sense, as I believe Haze is a timed exclusive.

The way he has his thumbs on the controller is the way you'd hold the sticks on a PS controller.
Symmetrically (sp?), you have to see the whole video for that.

The controllers on the Elite are black. I'm sure a ShockAxis is coming, but the PS3 "exclusive" status of Haze seems the most likely explanation here.

But it's a PS3 control that they blur.
He holds the thumbsticks like a PS3 control.
So it can't be a black elite control.
In any case.
ShockAxis should arrive soon.

I'll have to take your word for that -- I honestly can't tell if the sticks are symetrical from that vid.

It's pretty much the consensus of all of NeoGAF as well that they're symmetrical in the video as well.
Not just my crazy theory! ;)
