View Full Version : GameSquare closing in Orange County, final sale
GameSquare on Beach Blvd and Garden Grove Blvd is closing sometime in August. They are selling everything from games, consoles, and guide books. It started on July 8th and the signs say that everything must go. There's a lot of PS2 games left with 360 games going the fastest it seems.
New games are discounted at 10% while older or used games are discounted at 20% to 30%. It's cash only and sales are final but you can ask the employees to price check the games before you buy them.

Went today to check out their selection. They have a lot of older games (N64, PSOne, NES, SNES, Genesis, and even some Saturn games). Unfortunately, even with the discount, the games are still a bit over the fence for me. I tried to pick up Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Fear Effect 1 & 2, and Grand Theft Auto 2. They quoted me a price of $37 and $40 for Resident Evil 2 and Metal Gear Solid respectively. Needless to say, those went back on the shelf. I did manage to snag The other three games for about $12 after taxes. Like the OP said, sales are cash only (no debit or credit) and sales are final so check the disks. Be cautious with any multi-CD/DVD cases as well. The clerk didn't notice that Fear Effect 1 & 2 were 4 CDs each, and I almost left with 2 each, so check before leaving.
I didn't really try to haggle with the guy, but I think that it would be possible to try and wiggle the price down a couple of dollars. The Gamecube selection is pretty good, but nothing stands out. There is a large PSOne section but it is filled with mostly haphazard titles, and the only ones worth mentioning are Heart of Darkness, Jade Cocoon, and Metal Gear Solid VR missions. There is a large section of Playstation 2 games, but I didn't really have to time to check it out. I did glance over it, and it wasn't filled with the usually cookie cutter games you see in clearances.
The biggest problem, however, is that absolutely nothing in the friggin store is in alphabetical order. You want to find a game, you find it the hard way.
If you have any questions, you can try calling, but the clerk didn't seem to enthusiastic about answering the phone (when he actually answered it and didn't just let it ring out).

Ugh, not to be mean spirited or anything (but I'm going to be anyway)..
Good riddence to this place going down. They're a bunch of price gougers who are constantly quoting Ebay.
Example:
About 2 years ago, I called around looking for Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne. The game wasn't quite *that* rare yet because it was just a few months after it was released. I was estatic when I called Gamesquare and they said they had it. They said it was only 35 dollars. I rushed on over to purchase it and then they were like, "Actually.. we checked Ebay. It's going for over 60 dollars on there, so we'll give it to you for 45". I was like WTF? You said 30 over the phone!! And then they were like.. FINE, we'll give it to you for 30, but we're taking away the limited edition soundtrack. Needless to say, I was pissed, and I rarely ever went there again.
However, I had the misfortune to go once more with my boyfriend while I was showing around the local gameshops. Once again, I had an unpleasent experience there when I was looking at the GBA games. I picked up Lufia: Ruins of Lore and turned it around to look at the price. I almost choked when I saw it was 48.95 O_O; When the clerk saw me flinching, she gave me a smile and said.. well it's going for 50 on Ebay!......................douchebags.
Excuse me and my rant, but I really despise that place.

Do you know if they are all shutting down, or is it just this location?

There's like only 2 or 3..
The 2 I'm sure of (that are both closing):
Fountain Valley -- Warner/Magnolia <~ this has changed to Game It or something.. and is just as bad as Gamesquare
Stanton (don't know the exact cross streets, sorry)

That's why I asked, I saw that the FV one changed name a while back, but I'm wondering if its closing because its the closest to me.

No, Game It or what have you isn't closing. They're under new management/ownership and whatnot so it's a 'grand reopening' for them.

Ah thanks for clarifying...it won't last though, Gamestop is right around the corner by Starbucks. They do have porn at "Game It" though which I found really odd.
