Anyone else notice that the wii fit pad does a really good job of determining body positon based on how you shift your weight around?

Anyone else think this could be amazing for sports games or first person shooters?

Really, if they use this peripheral with other games... it could really be a monster.

could be good for skateboard or surfing

It looks like it could have some potential if combined with the regular controller (and the skateboarding/surfing/snowboarding idea is good). We'll see.

Portential to be awesome? Yes. Likely to be awesome? Nope. Even though it looks quite useful in a good number of things, this will likely be just like your average bongo, fishing rod, or whatever controller. Wii Fit(ness?) will have to sell pretty fucking well and get a lot of these pads out there in order to see them show up in other games.

I don't know if that tiny (and probabl somewhat fragile) pad could handle that sort of thing.

Hoverboard game and Zapper = killer app. You know Kojima saw that thing and got a chubby.

At least as pedals for Mario Kart Wii

Seems like a bit too awesome of an injection of interactivity/technology to relegate to being a one-game accessory.

I'd be shocked if Nintendo didn't give it a decent multi-game push not long after Wii Fit is released...especially considering, in all likelihood, it WILL sell a ton of units regardless.

Could be perfect for Mario & Sonic at the Olympics. I do like the idea of using it as pedals in Mario Kart and as a surf/skate/snow/hover board.

That's what I'm afraid of too. Nintendo keeps adding things on to the Wii it takes away from the controler remote.

It would be great for dancing, track and field, surfing and skateboards, but I don't it will be used for any of those besides Wii fitness. If it is not used for Sonic and Mario Sports than Nintendo really let everyone down.

I see it as the next Gamecube bongos or the Nintendo DS rumble. They work good for the 3-5 games that use them and then they are conpletely forgotten about.

If it can be used to simulate walking, where you shift your weight to move...then it could potentially remove the need of the nunchuck for movement. A first person shooter with just the wiimote perhaps? Or using two wiimotes for dual guns - which we cannot do yet because we need to move with the nunchuck.

They were complaining that it wasn't "calibrated" right at E3. If a multi-million dollar company can't get it working for a high-profile presentation, what chance do I have in my living room?

With this and the Zapper, all Nintendo needs is an updated ROB.

They need to pack this in with the system as soon as it's ready. This is pretty much exactly what the Wii is made for. It will be the killer app of all killer apps.

Plus, you know, it'll encourage developers to use the step for future games. And imagine the awesomity.

Remember, there is a long way to go before release.
If it was ready today they would release it now.

That's pretty funny. Reminds me of that REZ vibrator (http://www.gamegirladvance.com/archives/2002/10/26/sex_in_games_rezvibrator.html) (which was real)

I have no interest in it as I have no interest in standing up and moving around to play games.

I get a ton of excercise, and when I actually have time to play a game I just want to lounge on the couch and chill out. Flicking my wrist in Zelda is one thing, standing up and wobbling around on some platform is another.

Miyamoto mentioned that he only wanted to present wii fit at this E3. I think that in itself means that Nintendo wants to make this peripheral a major part of the wii. By having Miyamoto present it, they are probably also trying to convince 3rd parties to take notice and develop for it. If all they want out of it is one game, then I'm not sure why they would give it such a central position for this year's presentation over the other franchises.

Lets hope this actually becomes a peripheral that is actually USED properly unlike you know, things like virtual reality 3d glasses and headsets, the sega activator... I could go on and on.

Lets not develop just 1-2 games for it instead make like a whole series or something, use it properly! Lets not forget about it after making 1 game that goes with it... I think we are all sick of trying to find places to put those special controllers that only work with ONE game (not to mention the cost associated with purchasing these controllers + the games that go with them), you know like the Bongos and the SNES super scope, yeah I have a super scope and its so huge, and its a real pain to store, not to mention I have the box to deal with as well.. I have to literately have a whole corner of my gaming setup dedicated to it. Either that or shove it in the basement with the rest of the "lost' gaming console peripherals. At least the bongos are a start, and they come in a sort of normal sized box, and they make more than 1 game for them... but overall they weren't that fun, I went back to the GCN wavebird very quickly after trying the bongos.

This is a really sophisticated device, it's not like bongos or whatever.
There is no way this is not going to be used in revolutionary ways, in great games.

Nintendo is a games company period, unlike Sony and MS. They know what they are doing.

I think it's pretty exciting personally.

Yeah porieux, it's hard for me to even imagine this being some underutilized offshoot accessory.

I fully expect it to be a pretty important addition to the Wii arsenal.

Squeenix interested in using it for RPGs? I'm intrigued.

IGN: Is there going to be a Final Fantasy-themed fitness game (http://www.gonintendo.com/#)?

Toriyama: There are no actual plans to take Final Fantasy (http://www.gonintendo.com/#) into the fitness genre, but that whole system and mechanism of using your weight and balance to control games is something we’re interested in incorporating into future RPG titlesWill it be cool or sad that the first RPG on the Wii might be due to the balance board?

Too many pieces of space taking, dust collecting plastic junk to keep in my house. With ever new perhiperal the Wii comes out with the system feels more and more gimmicky to me.

No, not really.

Looked "passable", at best, at E3.

The soccer heading gets you moving, sure, but it didn't seem particularly accurate.

I think it's a good idea, even if Nintendo lets us down and dosn't use it for games that most gamers would be interested in they are supporting the group that bought the system for games like wii sports.

Now, if you excuse me, I'm off to pre-order Rock Band and all the instruments!!!

You forgot that it only counts as gimmicky if you don't like it (and/or if it's made by Nintendo, then it's kiddy and gimmicky).

God I hope not, if Nintendo does this with FPS or sports, it will ruin the, "sit back in your lazy boy chair and play games" relaxation enviroment that we've all love.

Squeenix interested in using it for RPGs? I'm intrigued.

Interest is one thing; development is quite another.

This thing just screams "bongos" to me. If Nintendo couldn't be bothered to get other bongo games to the market, why does anyone think that this will be any different?

Every time some peripheral comes along, the manufacturer swears up and down that it will get tons of support, revolutionize gaming, and be so totally worth your dollars and storage space. And, inevitably, reality falls way short of what's promised.

Probably the most successful peripherals are the EyeToy and the Guitar Hero guitar, and the latter only works with Guitar Hero games. The EyeToy did respectably well, but there are still only a few games for it. And not all of them are good.

It's one saving grace is that it can be supplemental -- i.e. the games can be designed to work differently or better with it, but still work without it. But then, that was true of the EyeToy, too.

I would love for Nintendo to do it right and prove me completely, horribly wrong. And if they can do it with anything, it's the Wii.

But I don't think it's gonna happen.

I think it will get supported. Nintendo made 3 bongo games so this is sure to get more then one. Besides the Wii is a huge hit and Wii Fit could be the next thing to keep the momentum going. Sure standing up and leaning in game sounds lame now.

But how long ago was it that people said waving your arms around to play would never catch on?

Wii Fit is going to be huge. It could probably sell as well as Wii Sports in Japan and as well as Wii Fit here. Skateboarding and Dancing games could work out pretty well on the thing.

An RPG though...man, I have to see that. I think it could save JRPG's if you can manipulate it when going for an attack, and you shift your body weight quick enough to do more damage. Although, I wouldn't want to stand while playing an RPG for 3-4 hours at a time.

If this isn't a contender for a Balance Board game, then cancel the whole thing right now.
