Just follow the rhythm, and remember that you don't have to hold the notes.

Do you start it after the tree is done singing? Also how many beats is the little solo you have to play?

If the tree sings bon bon booon wait untill hes done and you press O O O. in the same beats as the tree, same as the main story. The noise the trumpet makes when you do it right is very high pitch and "musical" when you are not pressing it right it farts.

Since I preordered it at Gamestop does someone actually call you when it comes in? i got a voicemail yesterday from some generic woman that says Patapon should be in on Wednesday.. but they didn't say what time or anything.
I guess I can go by tomorrow after work and see if my copy is in.

Defend before he attacks. Don't worry, your Yuripons (spelling?) will keep attacking while your Yatepons (spelling?) will defend. They really aren't that hard once you get in the rhythm of attacking and defending (and once they engage you in battle you don't have to worry about moving forward when they leap back until they leap all the way off the screen).

My issue right now is the rain drum miracle with the X button. I don't know what the beat sounds like and it's getting on my nerves.

You're doing the right thing lol. That minigame, like a lot of things in Patapon, doesn't make itself clear. The tree won't always drop an item with every sucessful command execution. If it drops a leaf, it drops a leaf. If it drops timber, stones, fancy sticks, and the like, then so be it.

So keep doing what you are doing and hope for the best.

There's a youtube video that explains the rain dance thing. The directions don't flat out tell you that you need to actually get a Fever going to then input the Rain Dance command. It's really easy after that but omg if you don't take the time to keep that storm going while you cross the desert. SHEESH! You get fucking roasted.

GameStop and Planet X don't get any extra copies of games on release date aside from pre-orders so we went on a mad dash calling up stores trying to find out who carried a free copy. Bf and I were kinda bummed that none of the gaming stores had any to buy unless you preordered, as we were looking forward to getting the game, but thankfully the Best Buy we passed on our way home had plenty of copies to go around.

Still a really addicting game, and Hatapon is my favorite Patapon.

I played the game for 3+ hours last night. Just couldn’t put it down. My one big complaint about the game is that it really doesn’t tell you what to do.

I kept dying in the desert and was told to get the Dom drum and Juju rain thing. I just had no idea how. Took me forever to find something on the internet explaining what to do. I had no real problem with figuring out the X-XX-XX to get the rain dance started.

I was also having a hard time beating the T-Rex boss again. Finally figured out to just do the hunting level about 10 times and build up my army. Get enough guys and you can kick butt.

My one big question is what is all the stuff that you collect good for? That one thing on the main screen shows you your inventory. What can you do with the stuff. I had read someone say you can upgrade your dudes to different colors. How do you do that and what does it do? Again, I wish the game would explain things to you.

Hoffer, next time if you're confused about what to do, listen to what your patapons say in the village. It was either at the festival square or at the skirted patapon that clearly told me to go to the plains to start that portion that eventually led to the rain juju and Don drum.

My main problem was getting the rain juju. I had noticed the totem and did the combination on it. Problem was I only did it once, saw it move around and that was it. I finally figured out I had to keep doing it until it released the Rain Juju.

I was just reading about the different colored soldiers. I guess that is based on what type of metal you have. Certain metal give different colored(and powered) soldiers.

I guess these are the things I wish the game would explain. I guess it gives me a reason to read internet forums during work. :D

No. Do you know what it really says? Do you? It says when the start the 'Ju-Ju dance'. Now I ask you sir, if you played the demo and had forgotten wtf they dance they do is called when they go into Fever, you would have been in the same pickle that I was in. I'm not mad or anything... just a little... frustrating.

An easier instruction would have been... "Combo into Fever Mode and then hit X-XX-XX"

Use the defense when he's about to attack, spam the attacks when he's walking back and forth.

I just got back from Circuit Fucking City, after trying to get a copy of Patapon and Professor Layton. I looked in their case and didn't see Patapon, so I asked the customer service guy if they had it. He was, mind you, the only person I could see that would be checking people out (nobody at the registers). After waiting for a few people to do returns, he looked it up on the computer for me, and it told him they had a copy. He checked the back room but came back empty-handed. Then he told me that he would check the case, after he rung up the customers waiting behind me. He rung up fucking three people before checking for me, only to come back empty-handed again! Now I waited fifteen minutes, and I got no Patapon! I'm going to put in an order as soon as they open up for an in-store pickup, hoping that they don't have it by 24 minutes after opening. If their computer shows that they have one, I think the website will also show that. It worked with my Zune, only they gave me another guy's in-store pickup, ruining my chance at the 24 dollar gift card!

Hopefully I'll have this tomorrow!

EDIT : Never mind. Not available for pickup anywhere, apparently. I hate CC.

That happened because the game didn't really save after you beat him, as though you saved before facing him. You still have everything (the great spear of protection) though.

Has anyone mastered getting Fever time early? I've gotten it to happen several times now but I don't feel/hear the difference in my timing.

I've gotten the $10 off before. I ordred a case for my Guitar Hero III guitar. The case was clearly back there, but they thought I had ordered an actual guitar and not a case. When they went to the floor and found the case and it matched the item number, they came back and then apologized for taking so long and then I got my giftcard. :) It's possible for you to get it, but just like you said sometimes very hard. The best time to get it is to place an order overnight when they are closed and hope the morning shift doesn't pull the order in the morning and be there right when the store opens.

Here's what you do. After you get the rain started, build up another combo to Fever, and start the miracle again. Don't worry about the snail thing as you will be wailing on it enough to kill it before it crosses the finish line. Wash rinse repeat.

if you think the desert part is hard... wait till later. the game quickly becomes a bitch, but in the kind of way that you don't mind.

Finally made it across the desert. I'm kind of worried about how repetetive this game is so far. I probably have the rain juju rhythm memorized by now. Still, I love watching the patapons dance around and chant, and the drums sound so gratifying with headphones. I'm torn.

Just don't play it in huge stretches. Take your time with the game, do other things or play other games. It's a very casual game if you think about it. Do a hunt pretty quickly, take on a boss the next day, etc...

1st official PSBlog tip was posted. (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/02/29/patapost-friday-pata-tips-1/)

Head to the post there and ask for questions.

**MILD SPOILER WARNING**

P-Day 2008-02-26 (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/02/26/p-day-is-upon-us/): hordes of Patapon fans storm local shops (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jtik5zN5m2g) in search of drumming musical goodness; Thousands (millions?) of people found across the globe hypnotically chanting “pata-pata-pata-pon”. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPsheuAQxKU)
Ok, so that faux-news bit might be a bit of a hyperbole, but I’d like to personally thank everyone here on the blog (new comers and old timers) on the support, good vibes, happy thoughts and overall positive sentiments towards this little bit of land we call Patapolis… and welcome to the tribe. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c07rCLO3hjc)
Last post (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/02/26/p-day-is-upon-us/), we mentioned that we’ll be answering a few questions on gameplay and offer some tips as long as it doesn’t spoil the ending. (http://youtube.com/watch?v=GwExDG7n7Zg)

Crossing the Dessert
Many of you are getting fried (http://youtube.com/watch?v=Yby8PD0AVkI) trying to cross the desert, so here’s a little tip for you guys: hook it up with the Rain JuJu, Don drum and get a’ chantin’…
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2035/2235016637_9c500d00eb.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/playstationblog/2235016637/)

Rain Juju and Don Drum
Successfully Defeat the Great Guardian Dodonga.
Go back into the Patata Plain (first hunting level). March until you approach the totem pole at the beginning of the level (get close enough, but don’t go past it!). Press the buttons indicated in the Totem Pole, and of course, keep to the rhythm! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lRrM6tfOHds)
Pick up the compass and finish the level.
Find the secret level now unlocked and battle against the Dauntless Dragon Majidonga! This will give you both the DON drum (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZPXgQSPm8A) and the Secret Rain JuJu!http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2092/2184933579_a9d756f9a5.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/playstationblog/2184933579/)
Fever Mode (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pW2JWagMxKk) (aka Patapon’s Gone Wild)
Get your Patapons up to fever mode. This is done by successfully executing a series of commands (6-10) in a chain without breaking the beat.
Once you hear/read “Fever!!”, chant Don DonDon DonDon. Make sure to keep to the rhythm when you drum!
You’ll enter into full JuJu mode (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Y7JWqCz2M4) and get with the rain making!http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2089/2235016659_1f1323d57f.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/playstationblog/2235016659/)
Final Tip
You can equip different JuJu’s in the HQ, just scroll over to the right with the directional buttons and press the X button to select your JuJu.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2321/2183486823_2764a38172.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/playstationblog/2183486823/)
Keep the Fever Going
The hardest part is not reaching fever mode, but actually keeping it! This is where the Pata-(wo)men are separated from the Pata-boys (and girls). You must ignore all distractions (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yvHWyvexZA) and keep to the beat! Sometimes the Patapons will start talking and not chant, but you must not let that distract you. One easy way to keep the rhythm is by tapping your feet, or bobbing your head, or humming along… this will make sure you’re always on top of it and it will help you reach Earthend.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2299/2103267403_1f695f5b6b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/playstationblog/2103267403/)
Team Patapon
Working on Patapon has been a great experience, something that could not have been done with out the help of our marketing team (Chuck Lacson), PR (Alex Armour) and last but not least, the entire QA team (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PI4iDM09oRE) that incessantly made sure that all bugs were fixed… these guys have you guys in mind when they play through the title making sure that everything is on the up-and-up so you guys, the fans, have a great gaming experience. These guys know the game back and forth, from here to Earthend and back – that sort of knowledge is ka-ching… so we’ve recruited Rodger Aladray, our QA lead on Patapon, to help out with some tips here and there as well.
Thanks everyone for the support, keep the rhythm going and see you next week. Get those questions in!

So what the hell am I doing wrong? I have hit Triangle-Circle-Triangle-Circle like 30 times in front of that fucking totem, and it just flips around and lands right back down. What the fuck.

So the only two options for missions are the Dinosaur again or hunting.

Getting mauled by the first worm. Any help?

RelentlessRolento
03-02-2008, 12:51 AM
win. no, just stand in one place and never really use the command to move forward since the worm always comes to you.as soon as you see him stand up straight, go into defend mode. actually any time he's standing waiting to attack just defend, only go for an attack between those times.

also, I took a break from playing this since I noticed it was affecting my sleep. I went to bed and couldn't go to sleep due to constant ringing's of the chants in my head. I would turn to one side of my bed and hear one chant, and then turn to the other side to only hear a different chant... damn it. I'm playing The Warriors on my PSP every once in a while to smooth me out.

I just replayed the desert hunting level, but there was only one kacheek and he was towards the very end of the stage so he ended up making it across the finish alive. I actually got a mission failed. :[

I'm trying to build up supplies to make better troops at the moment, because I've got an army of mostly plain patapons and the last few stages have been pretty tough. It's refreshing that you can't just breeze through the game, though.

On mission 26 aka Break Da Gate feat, Scorpiton! Talk about a hard mission. Those stupid demon missiles might as well be walls for my patapons. Annoying crap. Guess I'll just keep boosting my army with new divine weapons and materials.

Yeah the Totem dance, you have to keep the beat too. People weren't noticing the totem "sings" back to you the beats you play a lot like your army.

Dude. Someone explain the Fah Zakpon (flower) minigame to me. So I just hit circle with a steady rhythm through the entire song, with no variation? The flower seems pretty happy if I do that and it tosses up 2-3 items, but then they just fall on the ground. When do I press the button to catch them?

I personally just spam the jump button and usually get all 3.

No, it's not, unless you're bad at rhythm games.

Those issues you hear where people have trouble finding the rain miracle, etc... every time there's been an issue I just looked around the patapon village and one of the speaking patapons will give a really obvious clue as to what to do next. From there on, it's just a matter of a little experimentation.

Of course, Wombat got it so right that essentially, it's a holy war. Heck, the Zigotons don't even seem that evil. They're just another people that displaced the patapons. Makes the game even more funny in an ironic sort of way.

The best way to get food for the cook is the flower minigame. When I first started that stupid thing I could never keep the beat, but once you get the constant rythm down it is a really easy minigame which usually nets me 2-3 vegetables each time (the eyeball cabbage which is the level 1 vegetable is the most common drop, so for one Wooden Stick you usually will get 2 eyeball cabbages which can net you 2 stews from the cook).

I haven't gotten far enough for the blacksmith (I am about to siege the castle with the catapult. I've been screwing around refighting bosses a ton instead).

As for the blacksmith....

There's a hunting grounds that mentions a star in the description. Go there when it's not raining (I think it's the 6th or 7th grounds, I dunno). If it is raining, go in and just exit out until it stops. Anyway, you'll see some black enemy and a gold bird when it's not raining. Kill the black thing, and a star comes out of him. DON'T let the star get behind you, let it stay infront of you. He keeps dropping coins, and he'll drop an item that opens up a new boss (pretty sure it's the second form of the crab).

Anyways, the next time it's not raining do the SAME thing, and this time he'll drop the blacksmith's hat.

Hope that makes sense Rolento.

Go look at the first FAQ at Gamefaqs. It tells you which bosses drop what.

Also, what is your set-up like Role? I'm using Archers with one Devil Archer, Spearguys with two or is it one Devil Spearguy and an Angel Spear guy, and Megapons (only name I can remember lol) in the front. Full line-up for each. They all seem to be able to pound out the damage the most on bosses, causing them to stagger like crazy and drop all sorts of shit that's not just ka-ching.

I have the sword/sheild guys up front, the spearmen in the middle, and musicians in the back. The musicians are so damn usefull if you get at least one as a purple one (the one with the viking horns) and an upgraded weapon. They turn into massive damage beasts.

I would allready like to see a sequel. More unit types, bigger armys, more catapults and other weapons. Somehow make those flying units work out. Coop multi player. a unit that captures and controls monsters. press a button to double the speed in fever mode.

Especially if you made a ps3 version you could use the rock band drum kit.

I like the idea of ONE type of aerial unit. A "Monsterpon" unit. A "Medic" unit. Multiplayer at all would be great and I think that more stage specific items should pop up. The one catapult stage wasn't enough :(. Oh, and sea battles.

BUT

New official blog tip from friday's update. (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/03/07/patapost-friday-pata-tips-2/#more-435)

Patapost Friday: Pata-Tips #2 (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/03/07/patapost-friday-pata-tips-2/)

So by now many have you hopefully have passed the nasty desert (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/02/29/patapost-friday-pata-tips-1/), took down a few bosses, and can catch the FEVER like you were one of those cats from Outbreak.
Now let’s talk about amp-ing up your Patapon (http://www.us.playstation.com/patapon/) army. As you have probably have found out, success in this game takes rhythm and focus (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ImTEZO-rko), but that will only get you so far. You are going to have to build a bad-a$$ army, arm them to the teeth, and know how to put them to work.

“Where do they get those wonderful toys?”
Helmets, Shields and Weapons “Oh My!” There are a ton to collect in this game, if you keep on fighting the Zigotons, they will drop goodies left and right.

You can also acquire more gear from boss levels. You can replay boss levels infinitely, but as the level goes up so does the difficulty so man up your troops as you go along. Just as a sample here are some of the helmets you can score:
wood helm = is standard issue
iron helm = boosts stamina
steel helm = boosts both stamina and defense
wind helm = quickens attacks and resists flames
strength helm = greatly boosts attacks
ancient helm = greatly improves basic skills
Giant Turtle helm = greatly improves defense
Divine helm = resists flames and has destabilizing capabilities“Simply Diviiine”
If you want the best of the best weaponry, nothing can beat “Divine Weapons.” While playing boss levels like the Mythical Stone Goliath Gaeen, you will see Mythril randomly drop.

Don’t run away or you’ll miss all the heavenly glory!
Take the Mythril to the blacksmith (which doesn’t unlock until later in the game), and if the user performs the blacksmith mini-game without error, the user will score a divine weapon. You can get one divine weapon per squad: Divine Spear, Bow, Horn, etc….

“Special Forces”
Not all Patapons are created equal. Rare-apons are Patas you customize yourself by offering things to Mater, the Tree of Life. To create Rare-apons mix any one of the top rare drops of the three categories (meat, rock, or wood). Combine 2 of the 3 rare drops together at the tree of life, to create a rare-apon.

Each of these Super-pons have special abilities:
Pyokola (Orange) = slightly better all around stats then your standard Yaripon
Mefeel ( Light Purple) = has the highest armor versus projectile weapons
Gekolos ( lime green) = has the fastest attack
Barsala ( Dark Green) = is the best rounded of all
Mogyoon ( Dark Purple) = deals the most damage of all
Tikulee ( Blue) = has the highest critical chance of damageSo which item combos yield which Rarepons? For this, we turn to Super Pata-fan AxelCloud’s YouTube page (http://youtube.com/user/AxelCloud). He (or she!) spent a good amount of time making home videos of his (or her!) uber-rare Pata-force.

Thanks AxelCloud, may you make it safely to Earthend!

if you look at the very first trailer, they were gonna have seige towers, cannon blimps and flying units. Sea battles would be rawking. "monsterpon" would be great do you mean like a guy who controls monsters or one who rides like mini dragons

;_; damn that all sounds so nice.

And by Monsterpon I mean like capturing the big animals from hunting missions to use in battle. But you can only use them once in a stage. After that they are let go at the end or die. That way it won't be broken as the bigger animals (the crab thingys, the beetle thingies) have high HP. So I think it would be cool to use one as a special weapon for taking down big bosses or castles.

EDIT: So I beat the game and...And what a funny ending. The Queen popping up out of nowhere was so weird though. I'm like "Shouldn't you be dead? People do die in this game!" I like that they hint at a sequel with the Zigatons as your new found friends (after you've probably enslaved them all anyway, you horrible patapons). But now I can so see all those fun things like blimps, sea battles, and controller monsters. It will be so much fun to discovery new tribes and animals with our Patapon army in the sequel.

What's a good endboss strategy?

What's a good endboss strategy?

Personally, I had been farming so much ka-ching and divine weapons that my Megapons have two "Devil Horned" memebers in it, plus the divine horn, my yaripons have one "Devil and one Angel plus the divine helm and spear, and my archerpons have two Devils plus the divine bow and that really big bow, failnaught or whatever it's called.

First time I played I had none of that lol. And I got really really close to beating Gorl.

So as far as strategy goes...As you can see, that's my winning team set-up. It's gotten me to a level 15 Gaeen so they aren't a pack of chumps. Gorl has like three attacks it seems in both forms, total. That charged up super energy ball thing which I'm guessing can be defended. I don't think retreating will help but next time you play, see if it tracks. His snatch and zap move which I don't think you can really avoid unless you have your pons retreating before he attempts to take one. And after the transformation he has that belly slide move which can be defended against. So all I did to beat him was wail on him on all cylinders. My team was SO strong that he changed forms like after 4 rounds of attack. The best thing you can do is have the strongest weapons and to take something from the chef with you to give you that extra boost. He's really not hard at all. I found the Cioking to be much more difficult to fight. Plus, if you beat the shit out of Gorl enough he'll drop Mythril.

I find that close range attackers like Dekapons, Kibapons, and Tatepons to be useless after awhie in this game. Bosses like to keep you at arm's legnth literally so they can grab you or smash you or swipe at you. Plus they always retreat and if your army of archers/yaripons/megapons are strong enough you can get enough hits off when a boss is retreating to interupt their retreat. That's how you know you are kicking some ass. Plus you don't have to waste time catching up the boss. You can just keep attacking because he'll still be in the range of your Megapons. And since you are using all ranged attackers, that keeps the action away from your flag toting leader.

I have a bunch of little gripes about Patapon but I love this game and the price makes it so I can't really complain seriously. I should really stop grinding the hunting missions though...

I just could not get into this game at all. Even for $20. I ended up trading it on goozex for 650 points

I hope this means that another one will be coming out sometime. Maybe the PS3 version will continue the story.

it's not my fave PSP game (sill MGA2), but this game is very damn good. It did everything Loco Roco was trying to do. Definitely a better release than GoW IMHO.

Since GoW was just another GoW and didn't do anything to further game design in any way? Oh and it was twice the price and a third of the the average Patapon play time?

Yeah Patapon is in my top ten. For sure. I hated Loco Roco. I'd sell that piece of crap if it were profitable.

I feel like doing a top ten list.

10: Burnout Legends
09: Megaman Powered Up
08: Daxter
07: DJ Portable Max 2
06: Gundam Game (that one you know... there's been two so far. The really fun and good one! From Japan!)
05: Wipeout Pulse/Pure
04: Patapon
03: Jeanne D'Arc
02: Ridge Racer 2
01: Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror
00 (honorable mention): MGS: PO (It could have been perfect)

And some of the most jiggly tits this side of DoA. Mammary heaven.

I actually like MGA2. It's just that those top ten games managed to grab my attention, no, snatch my attention from me and force me to play them until I saw the end credits. I'll finish MGA2 one day. It looks like soon with this PSP game drought. I never played FF7 so Crisis Core is kinda meh to me. That leaves me with GoW which I'll get one of these days.

did everyone finish this game already? i just (finally) finished the demo tonight. finished in only an hour........had i known that it wasn't the 2+ hours i had read elsewhere, i would have dug in to this sooner. I love what i've seen so far........can't wait to crack the real game open.

hopefully i don't end up grinding the hunting missions though........I could easily see myself doing that......

very fun game........I sure hope it is rewarded with some good sales numbers.....

I finally picked this up today. I picked it up used, though, because it was $5 cheaper, and I got a free $15 game with it because of a BOGO free for $15 used games at GameRush. Oh well, I'm sure the sales numbers won't be affected too much by my 1 unit.

I can't wait to start playing through the levels past the demo.

Could that be a "Pr0nstar" shirt on the blond character? The game is "a new videogame property for boys and girls under 12"...

OK, I finally started getting into this game and I'm liking it but I seem to be stuck. I can't figure out the Don Don beat. I get into Fever and then repeat the Don Dons as they come up on the screen - it all goes well until I get to the DonDonPataDon instruction and nothing I do seems to work. Any tips?

Nevermind. I was hitting Don and I should have been hitting Pon. Makes sense now. I just crossed the desert!
