Today I decided to really sit down and use the remote play features between my PS3 and PSP, but I noticed some problems.

- If I'm not within 100 feet or so of my PS3, the local connection chugs

- Even being super close to my wireless router, the internet connection chugs and barely connects. Maybe I should take my laptop offline?

- It randomly says my PSP and PS3 aren't registered to each other, or the PS3 is not in remote play.

Common problems? Or do I have to configure something I'm missing?

I can't use Remote Play or else I'd help you.
As for the choppiness, I thought there were settings to help ease the load.
Something about how much to load, or what the quality should be like.

Just stuff I remember reading about.

Hmmmm, interesting, hopefully someone can fill me in on lightening the load.

I hate to NOT add anything helpful to this thread, but I tried setting remote play up last night and couldn't connect. I registered my PSP, went into Network / Remote Play on my PS3, then went into my PSP and chose Remote Play. I said local connection then chose Playstation 3 (not home wireless) then it said it couldn't find the SSID .... I just haven't gotten around to researching it.

I got remote play working last night. It seems that I was being a dumb ass and after hitting Remote Play, I thought it wanted me to hit O to go back. When I DIDN'T go back and left it on that remote play screen, I was able to connect over just fine.

That's a pretty freaking sweet feature and wouldn't doubt that Sony develops an applet that lets you initiate a session from the Sony PSN site in the future.

Ok, I did some digging around, and these guys had the same problem as me

http://community.eu.playstation.com/showthread.php?t=96042

This part is what interest me, and I'll have to try it.

Since all the settings on my router are for security purposes it was preventing the PS3 to be viewed outside of my own network.

What you'll need to do is port forward port number: tcp 9293. Once you do that, the PS3 become available to the outside world. If you are still finding issues with doing port forwarding, you can also make the PS3 a DMZ host, which just opens up all the ports for the PS3. I don't think it's a security issue since the PS3 doesn't have a traditional operating system, but I could be wrong so first start with the port forwarding, then if that fails, resort to the DMZ solution.

Also, I found out that my WLAN power saver was ON on my PSP.

I turned this off and it made a HUGE difference connecting to the internet through my PSP.

Hopefully this will fix up my LAN connection with remote play. I'll report back later when I try everything. :D

Ok update.

The LAN works smooth as butter now. A bit choppy if I go far away from my PS3, but connecting has greatly improved.

I opened up the ports, and I can now conect via the internet! Problem is it still chugs pretty bad. However, I'm not sure if this is due to having so many things connected to the router at once or not.

UPDATE UPDATE!

I removed th ports on my router for shits and giggles, and now its running extremly well....whaaaaat.

Ok now I'm super confused.

However, I'm going to assume without these ports open, the PS3 wont be able to reach the outside world, and thus, I can only use the feature at home, which would be kinda pointless.
