I just stumbled across this, is it true? And that the games are in DVD like cases?

Those games all came out in the past year or two (Under Defeat, Karous, and what looks like Baldr Force EXE); just the last few ports trickling over from NAOMI before Sega stopped producing GD-ROMs. There hasn't been any remanufacturing of systems, though.

New Dreamcast releases will continue to flow even after Sega stops manufacturing GD-ROMS.

from what i understand the dreamcast is pretty much the most homebrew friendly system of like ever.. since it can boot games without lock protection..

too bad there is no servers to play games online with.. that'd be awesome..

I read that Sega of Japan will no longer repair Dreamcasts or Saturns after September so a rerelease seems highly unlikely.

No, it's not coming back.

I'd love to have DVD-size cases (WITH MANUALS) for my DC stuff, but without manual resizing it just wasn't worth it to me.

Guys, the whole discontinuing GD-ROM support is merely speculation and rumor. Sega has NOT confirmed any of that. o_O It's just that considering the era Dreamcast started is now done, developers aren't making games for a system that not only isn't being supported, but is now considered outdated due to the current generation of games.

There was only a short timed re-release and it was mainly refurbished Dreamcasts over on Sega's Japanese online store. Once Dreamcast died outside of Japan, it stayed dead. Even Sega finished Japanese support with Puyo Pop Fever.

That's Trigger Heart Excelcia on the far right. Awesome game.

The topic title gave me the impression of U.S. versions of Japan games. :(

I wish the Nintendo Wii could play all the CD games of Sega!

The Wii it will never play those games. It is also about time since somebody started to port games to the rightfull place on the Dreamcast.

Like for example Odin Sphere is really a Dreamcast game but they are just porting it to PS2.

The day of SEGA's sweet sweet return is dawnin near.

Uhhh, no. Odin Sphere was developed as a PS2 game from the beginning. Dunno what you're talking about...

LOL, are you one of those nutcases who thinks that Sega would be stupid enough to re-enter the home hardware market? Never, ever gonna happen, dude. That's just not their business anymore.

I garantee you will see Odin Sphere and a comeback of SEGA system.

Okay, you're just trolling now. There is no way you could actually believe what you just posted. You simply cannot be that...unintelligent.

The third game looks to be titled "Exelica," though there is some tiny text that I can't read above that.

I have one, and I have some games for it that I'm interested in playing, but there's something wrong with the dreamcast...

Not in the US, I don't think...could be wrong.

I somehow think it's more reasonable to assume that the poster wouldn't think that a game that started development long after the market for Dreamcast died. You don't know if he's being sarcastic or not, but it's more logical to assume that he is.

I thought it was a PSP title first, then moved to PS2.

Wait, I might be confusing it because I remember seeing the original Odin's Sphere trailer on the Princess Crown (the kinda prequel) on PSP over two years ago.

Yeah, you were confused. It was always announced as a PS2-only game. Though, I have Princess Crown on PSP, and I never saw an Odin Sphere trailer on there...though I didn't play it too terribly much.

Is there an official or at least a semi-official place where I could get my DC repaired?

Also wasn't Princess Crown on PSP just a remake of a Saturn game? Maybe that's where the confusion on Odin Sphere is coming from.

Probably just cheaper to buy a new Dreamcast than go through the hassle of getting yours repaired. That is, if you can find one. I see them a lot at pawn shops for $15-$20.

And you're right. Odin Sphere was originally for the Saturn and then ported to the PS2. You can tell, because the Saturn was a superior system and the PS2 couldn't handle the game aka the slowdown.

And Odin Sphere is the sequel which was originally developed for the Saturn. The Saturn was very powerful system, so when ported to the PS2 there were issues such as slowdown and framerate drops.

And yes, I'm being sarcastic :-P

I dunno... the Saturn did have that 4 meg RAM cart. Throw that in there with Odin Sphere and... it still probably wouldn't work.

I thought as much but I wasn't sure.

But it's not so far fetched of an idea. Wasn't Shenmue originally developed for the Saturn? And look at that, it eventually made it's way onto the xbox (Shenmue II, anyways).

I remember before a few consecutive E3s from maybe four and five years ago there were rumors that Sega was getting back into hardware. If only it wuz true.

The sale of my Dreamcast was the only time in selling off my old consoles that I hesitated and cried a little on the inside. I miss her everyday. She was a good bitch, a fine bitch.

Too bad Sega has become so awful since going third party. At first it was great, then it just let itself go. Like a married woman.

I remember when IGN caused so much crap flinging when they pulled their stunt of faking a new release plan that turned out to be just them reviving their Dreamcast site (which hasn't been updated in who knows when now).

www.eStarland.com

Go under the services tab and then click complete list for console repairs. They charge $22.00 for a dreamcast repair.

I would have said Sega still does repairs on Dreamcasts, according to their website, but then I noticed they ask for a sales receipt as proof of purchase for systems less than six months old (literally impossible, so the section may be extremely outdated). Plus if you don't have one or it's over six months old, then you'd have to pay $55 to get it repaired, along with seperate costs to ship AND insure it.

Sega hasn't rerelased the Dreamcast now but they did on Feburary 16,2006. They sold refurbished Dreamcasts from Sega of Japan's website.

I am not sure that the end of GD-Rom production would necessarily mean the end of Dreamcast games. I have some back-ups that play just fine on standard Cd-R's.
