Yes a lot of people are on the fence right now but I'm specifically wondering how the software BC has progressed so far

http://faq.eu.playstation.com/bc/bcGames.htm

A lot of games apparently work even with software but as I looked closer, a lot of games seem to be missing/they're behind. I.e. god of war 2 and yakuza werent there as well as a few others. Either the list is incomplete because they still have a lot of work to do, or there's a lot of purposeful ommissions to make the BC % seem better than it actually is. Does anyone have a EU PS3 and can comment?

I've been wondering this same thing-wondering how well it really handles BC.

Also I'm assuming that it gets updated from time to time like the 360, though I know it launched with a lot more games compatible than the 360. (Although to Microsoft's credit, they are still working on it...though Peter Moore's attitude about it stunk.)

This is the best article I could find. Actually the percentage is higher than anyone thought although there are some key ones in there like MGS Subsistance. I can't find God of War 2 on the official site but their spreadsheet version has God of War 2 listed. Either way it looks like the BC is better than Microsoft's at least.

This may make the decision I *want* to make (to hold off) a bit easier. How's hardware BC work? issues? flawless?

I wonder what "issues" these games have? As I recall with the U.S. PS3 list, some of the "issues" were actually really minor...but who knows.

Weirdly, there's a ton of European Final Fantasy 10 SKUs on the list, and most have no issues, but one says it has major issues.

Most of my games seem to be listed, but Tomba! (Tombi! in the U.K., I think) isn't listed.

A lot of the Playstation 1 Final Fantasy games say they have major issues...which could mean anything. Could mean you can't save, for all I know.

Keep in mind that story is from the launch period in regards to the 1.6 PS3s. The 1.7 and 1.8 updates added/patched a number of titles.
