PS3 Game Data?

I was looking at my GameSaves and I noticed there is a separate category called Game Data (if I recall correctly)? I had 4 files in there....Resistance, Motorstorm 1.2 and two others. What exactly does this do? Are these the Auto-Updates?

Just curious, as can we delete them or just keep them there?

I think they're the game patches and any data installed onto your hdd, which games like Virtua Fighter and Ridge Racer 7 have the options to do. I wouldn't delete them just to be safe.
