here's hoping that they will revitalize the series for once........
i'd give it a 5% chance of happening.

I hope the graphics look better than DW Gundam. If they're going to continually rehash the gameplay, they could at least make this one look nice.
I did like DW4, but I don't know if I can get into a DW-esque game again unless they finally introduce some fresh gameplay to the series. Empires was a start.

They really need to put some effort into this.
Have graphics that are at least good (doesn't have to be great) and add just a little variety to the gameplay and I could see myself getting it. Also Make it cost around $40-$50 at release. No reason it should cost $60 if its a typcial DW game.
I can get into hack n' slash games (I loved the Drakengard games) they just have to have something that draws me in (Drakengard had the story).

Well, this series is huge in Japan and should definitely help PS3 sell, so I'm happy there's another. I'll buy the game regardless of how it is.

As much as I love this series Koei really needs to start making huge improvements to the gameplay. This goes for the Empire games as well.

The same games over & over again. I knew the stories & they should make the game go straight to the main stories.

Nice! I love these games, and I probably put more time into them than any other franchise. I hope they incorporate some of the stuff from Samurai Warriors 2 into this one. SW2 I believe is the best in the series. It had a great presentation, great music, nice combo system, and some excellent cutscenes. Hopefully Koei will give The Three Kingdoms the same treatment. Zhao Yun looks cool in that scan, and I want to see what Zing Cai and Sun Shang Xiang look like!
I can't wait for this!

I'm not real excited for this I got burnt out on DW/SW. If they change the game play more then I may pick it up for $40 max. I am guessing it will be just like the previous DW games same game over and over again....

Gameplay looks identical and unimproved from previous games. They're never going to improve the games if idiots keep buying them.

You don't like the games? Fine. But lets keep the insults to a minimum. Just because you don't like them doesn't mean you need to insult the people who do.
Not to mention, we didn't really needed another person to basically say "It's the same game lmao!" The first 5 people that posted that kind of got the point across.

I agree man, if you don't like the game thats cool but don't flame people that do. I used to love the series myself just got burnt out on it is all. I also am hoping they expand on the game play more to make me want to get a DW game again.

I'll continue buying them, because I do play them quite a bit and never regret buying them.

Hopefully it has easy achievement points and some more enticing gameplay. May give it a rent.
I used to enjoy play DW2/3 but it kind of started dragging it's ass.

It's not about inflating my score (which I don't care about), it's enjoyable to unlock achievements.

Yay, US release date. Also I like all the new character designs. Yue Ying looks awesome now. Though do we really need two characters with a bow? I blame Ina-hime's popularity on that one lol.
Also I'm not sure if I should get it for the PS3 or 360...

I think the DW series has gotten to the point where either you're a diehard fan, and will buy games in the series no matter what, or you're completely sick of the series, and no amount of new features, revamping, new characters etc will get you into it. There's not really much middle ground.
It's kinda like the Madden series. Every year they add some new features that to me, seem trivial, but there's probably some Madden Nut out there somewhere who will talk my ear off for hours as to how awesome that seemingly trivial new feature is and how much it impacts the game.

yeah, I'm fine with the main series for the most part. I just wish they would alter the games some more, even if it means drastically altering battles and the Rottk storyline. Maybe they could merge the Empire series with the original and take some of the gameplay elements from Warriors Orochi.
Warriors Orochi's storyline was a lot of fun because of the new plot and the way the characters interacted with each other.

All right, I'm bringing this thread up because I finally got the game on PS3. And while I'm enjoying it so far, as soon as I tried out Musou Mode with Zhao Yun, this one guy on the horse keeps killing me towards the end, so I may try as another character.
Also, there is an optional HDD install, and what's cool about it is you change equipment and so on before battle, while it loads in the background. By the time you finish, you can instantly start the next stage.

Yeah, I was thinking that. The first time I tried, but the 2nd time he just kind of followed me and wiped me out. I'll try again later.

This would probably be the best place to ask, but whats the difference between the regular version of a DW game and the Empires version. I've been getting into the genre lately and was looking to pick up more titles.

The Empires version is a tad more strategy based I believe. If you want answers, send a PM to Rei, the CAG Koei expert. :D

The Empires games are strategy focused. Basically you pick a territory on a map, and then proceed to take over the neighboring areas. You make alliances, tax people, etc. Battles are normal DW style.
I like the Empires games. They're not bad if you want a bit more thinking in your hack and slash.

Thanks Rei and TMK.
Just popped this game in yesterday after sitting on it for a week or two. I can't believe Lu Bu kicked the fuck out of me the first three times I tried the first level. It's more of the same, but the last one I picked up was DW4 when it first came out (no xtreme legends or 5 for me). I'm pretty disappointed that people still disappear when they're right next to you. It would have been nice to see the engine optimize to take advantage of the cell and maybe that wouldn't have to happen, but of course it went multi-platform.

just to add some explanation to the differences between Empires and other games:
Empires (based on DW5)
Choose a special event to participate in, like the naval Battle of Chi Bi. You can choose any army, which can be comprised of all generic model characters or ones that have special ones (like choose Shu to be Liu Bei, Zhao Yun, etc).
Now you get to do a Planning phase where you can consult your officers for what to do. Since there's no way of leveling up your weapons or acquiring horse through battle, you need to produce these items or have a smith upgrade your weapons. You create alliances, force people to surrender, build economies, move your ppl around, etc.
Once that's done, you can choose to attack a territory or defend from an invader. To win, you need to keep taking over bases until you create a chain from your home base to the enemy's main camp. So run into the fenced areas / forts and kill until you take them over. Defeat the enemy's main camp to win. Kill the land ruler in a battle or take all his lands from him and they're now under your control.
For special battles, only those that fight in Chi Bi (or whichever battle you chose) will make the special event occur. It's not the same as the one in DW5 or DW6. It's a generic battle like I described above. Nothing special really.
The object of the game is to control all the lands and unify China. Generic cutscenes w/ in-game graphics and some low quality videos from DW5 will be randomly shown as you progress...nothing impressive tho.
And then you get to do it again and again...and again. The replay factor is pretty weak: you can play to get all the different officers. There's 250. It's like Pokemon. Get them in your army and save the game to show a "GET" icon near their name. Recruit, bribe, search for officers, impress them in battle...whatever works.
There's also a Officer Edit mode where you can create your own character, change their appearance and give him any moveset in the game.
It's kinda fun, a good change if you're a hardcore Koei hack and slash fan. If you can't get into ROTK or Dynasty Tactics but want a bit of strategy w/ your hacking, Empires is a good (and relatively cheap) choice. Otherwise, stick to whatever flavor of Warriors you like. DW6, DW5 or DW5XL, SW2 or SW2XL, Orochi, Gundam....you name it.

The best way to beat super tough bosses is to get thwacked in the face until your health goes red. Then your mosou bar charges constantly and your musou attack does way more damage. So, kill all the guys in an area and look for Mr. Bu and put an arrow in his skull and run back to a clear area. Then pretty much just kite him in circles unleashing your musou attack as it becomes available. 99% of the time your musou attack will knock him down and give you a fair head start running away again. For the other 1%, run like hell swearing your ass off and hope he doesn't beat your ass down before your next attack charges.
Depending on your skill level, you'll want to attack one of two ways. You can start off with a simple combo (which he'll block) and then unload your musou (generally his defense will drop) or you can just start off with your musou and hope he stops blocking in the middle. The former is safer as you're invincible and he can't interrupt your attack. If you lead off with a combo he might just beat the piss out of you from square one.
