oh man, this guy must be upset he can't lower the price.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe president David Reeves has been explaining why PAL territories won’t see the release of an 80GB PlayStation 3 by claiming that the extra 20 gigabytes “is not worth it”.

Can this guy be made the President of Sony, or at least the gaming part? He is the only one there with any common sense.

It's cheaper to produce a PS3 with the 80GB. SCEA is probably going to hit the 80GB version a $100 price drop to make it $499.99 or lower.

Wow, just when I thought the PR woes were solved with the firing of Kutaragi, this douche comes along and pisses on the PS3's modest wave of good news.

He's just made they can't have it. Everyone wants what the can't have.

For example, I want to world but I can't have it...yet.

it's not cheaper to produce, they just have a higher profit margin.

He's saying no EE = cheaper production, which I agree with. Not to mention these are probably going to be the units that get the less-expensive blue-ray diod.

I'm not saying Sony is making a ton of money, but I doubt they'd be losing any more than they are with the 60GB selling for $499.

In the US the 80GB model will be cheaper to produce. Taking out the emotion engine will save them a lot more money than the price difference between 60GB HDDs and 80GB HDDs ($5 price difference at Geeks.com, I'm sure Sony can get better prices than that).

I was all ready to pick up a PS3 like two days ago..

Its kind of funny how a handful of out of touch douchebags can change my purchasing plans... I'll still probobly consider picking one up when Ratchet and Clank and MGS4 come out..

the 60 GB's don't necessarily all have the EE.

If you buy it in the US or Japan they do.

Go away troll.

Not really, they took the EE out awhile ago, even in NA units. Some will have it, some won't.
depends on the production date.

I believe you're incorrect, but it's up to you to prove your point. They're taking the EE out of the 80GB, the 60s will continue to have it (thus why they're letting supply die out).

Sony already said, last week, that all US 60gb models have the EE "and would continue to do so". (at the time it made no sense, now that we know they're phasing out the 60GB it makes perfect sense)

People keep referring back to a website that posted a speculation/story back in like February for proof. While I don't normally believe a word Sony says, I believe them more than a random website that didn't have solid proof and just said "sometime in the future [April/May I believe] Sony will take the EE out".

They're taking the EE out, but doing it by changing the model around entirely.

it doesn't affect me at all, I already have my 20GB ps3 and i'm fine with it. Just saying don't come crying to me when your 60GB doesn't have an EE in it.
