Excellent catch, I'm tired of leaving my PS3 at 700p just so I can play R6V every once in a while...that would be awesome. :D

What was going on when this was taken?

I'd like to know what it could be applied to.

I do know that in-game music is already in place, but it'll take the developers to work that into their games. So what this is, I'm not quite grasping as you can already play music while working in different XMB tabs.

Notice it says "Quit Game".
This is the PS Button menu.

Apparantly, every PS3 demo unit showed the same options while playing a game and hitting the PS button.

Here is the intervew: (http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=567411)

Q.
Linking to games, the 360 has a feature to allow music in the HDD and network to be played back as game BGM.

K1
PS3 already has such function in the system software. It is up to the game developers to use the function. Same goes for pictures and videos.

That is what is confusing me. If it is up to the game devs, then how can it be worked into the XMB on all of them?

Also "soon" in the thread topic is a little misleading because you really have no idea when this'll be released right?

dallow
07-19-2007, 04:10 PM
Thing about that is that those engineers were talking about custom tracks in games. Like if the game had the option of checking the music on your HDD.

This new pic seems like it's some kind of universal custom music thing ala 360.

NamPaehc
07-19-2007, 04:28 PM
Yeh... I totally understand that. What I am saying is confusing is, that Sony has made it seem, from the start, that it was going to be the developers who deside to use the custom tracks or not. And now it seems to have changed for some reason. Youtube video of actual custom track via "game" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qzNWSviUbj0).

I'm not agaist it, I'm just pondering the reasoning is all. If it is really true (where is there not more sources for this?) ,my thought is that it was there but no one was using it so they figured they'd give the people what they wanted regardless.

dallow
07-19-2007, 04:36 PM
That sounds reasonable.
Might as well just give the people what they want if it's that easy to implement via the PS button.

I have that Cat game. I did notice you could access certain things, didn't know you could access music. Will have to try that.

it'd be nice if the damn ps3 could finally recognize the file structure on the Ipods properly................ Ipod useage on the ps3 now is pointless and pathetic. My 360 could use the ipod properly at launch.

But I guess the ipod thing is minor only until they can get the damn custom soundtracks in game.

Just so everyone knows, the updates are "universal". At least via internet update. So when they are out in Japan, they are out all over the world.

Only thing that you need to wait for, IF you are going to update any other way, is for the file to be uploaded on your regions website. Shouldn't download from other regions, at least if you listen to Sony (warranty issues) but I bet the files are mostly the same.

It is like 8PM Japan so if it comes out Tuesday it could be here soonish. Anyone remember previous times?

Yay, PS3 owners don't have to pay for their wallpapers!

You know, you don't have to pay to use a custom image as your background on 360 neither.... theme is one thing, but you don't have to do it just for a background pic... lol.

Rough Google Translation, translated (from GAF)

As for the function which is mounted with the update of PS3, the cross media bar (XMB) the picture is indicated in the background, the indicatory font is modified in regard to “customization of the wallpaper/the indicatory font”, “input of picture letter” at the time of message compilation to the friend and Internet browser using the USB keyboard of marketing, letter is input “inline letter input with Internet browser” and improves the playback quality of music CD directly “rise converting output of music CD” and so on.
You can customize the wallpaper on your PS3. I personally hope you can just change the theme of the XMB as well. It also adds emoticons for messages to your friends. Details a few changes for playback of music CD's and keyboard input as well.

Other modification point is as follows.

<Modification point of PS3 system software version 1.90>

-Rearranging the game which is retained in the hard disk is possible Move games in XMB up and down. Possibly in other folders?

-In the option menu of the disk “the disk it removes and” adds You can eject games, CD's and movies from XMB by pressing triangle, and selecting "Eject Disk"

-At the time of idea contest modification of file and folder “folder classification” selective possibility Not very sure about this. It seems like you can change the way your folders are classified, but that still isn't informative.

-“BD 1080p 24Hz output (HDMI)” of “BD/DVD setting” with “entrance” selective possibility It reads like you can force 24hz output for Blu-Ray over HDMI.

-At music CD output frequency” of “music setting” ““44.1/88.2/176.4kHz” selective possibility You can change the frequency of music to either 44.1, 88.2, or 176.4 kHz

-With bit mapping” of “music setting” ““type 2” selective possibility Select Type 2 bitmaping for SACD?

Operation “picture quality adjustment” of panel in “image audio setting” modification Pertains to those screens that we saw the other day. It allows you to change the PS3 video settings in-game.

-Is retained in the hard disk of [memorisuteitsuku] and the digital video camera animated picture of the AVCHD type which reproducible From what I understand, you can make those little animated icons for digital video that you have on a memory stick (that are in AVCHD format), and those animated icons will be retained the next time you plug it in.

-Record in the media and the time of animated picture file playback on the hard disk, “slow (it returns)” with, “scene to reset”, operational Sounds like animated .gif support. Mike Works' Thriller will be the first one I watch on it.

-While the playing of PS and PS2 standard software, output setting modification possibility Allows you to change the output settings while you're playing PS one and PS2 games, like the upscaling options and smoothing

“Ahead linking adding addition to the book mark” in “the file” menu of [intanetsutoburauza] Adds bookmark function in the file menu of the web browser

-Adding “browser security” to “the tool” of [intanetsutoburauza] This is some kind of browser security function that's found in the tool section of the web browser. It sounds like a private browsing mode for the PS3 browser. (Basically, porn mode.)

-When AV indicating [abata] in the kyat, reacting to sound, it reaches the point where [abata] moves No idea

Furthermore, rise converting output of music CD is connected, PS3 and the audio equipment being the HDMI cable or the optical digital cable, at the same time, it is necessary also for the audio equipment to correspond to the sampling frequency of 88.2kHz or 176.4kHz.

With the system software version 3.52 of PSP, function in order to play is strengthened PLAYSTATION Network title.f

PS Blog Update. (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2007/07/23/firmware-190-coming-soon/)

A quick update: we have a new firmware upgrade in the works for PS3, it will be available for download in the next few days. Firmware 1.90 brings with it several new features, many of which readers of this blog have requested – I’m happy to report.

Customization is one new feature: you can now personalize the wallpaper on your XMB with a photo. This was one of the top three requests we received via the blog’s contact form. When viewing a photo, simply bring up the options screen by pressing the triangle button and selecting “set as wallpaper” from the options displayed. Additionally, you can now change the order of the games displayed under the game icon on the XMB.

Another new feature focuses on added communication elements: When you’re sending messages to friends on PLAYSTATION Network, you can now use emoticons. We’ve added a bunch of emoticons that can be easily accessed from the virtual keyboard. Also, another cool addition is, when an avatar is displayed during voice/video chat, the avatar will move in response to audio.

Finally, on the more technical side, you can now play AVCHD videos saved on a Memory Stick or digital video camera, and we’ve added the ability to upscale audio CD output from your PS3. Now, there are two requirements for this feature: the device you’re outputting to must support a sampling frequency of 88.2 kHz or 176.4 kHz, and your PS3 must be connected to that device with an HDMI cable or digital optical cable.

Oh, and one more thing: you can now eject discs using your controller by selecting “Eject Disc” in the options menu after you push the PS button.

Several other minor options will be included in 1.90 including a few new display options that will allow you to adjust your display while playing PlayStation, PlayStation2 and Blu-ray movies. More info on these options as well as detailed info on the rest of the 1.90 additions will be available later this week. We’ll update this post with a link to that info when it’s available.

We’re working on additional features for our next update that will incorporate more of your feedback, so as always thanks for all of your support, and please keep those suggestions coming!

does that mean 24 fps? Does that mean movies that are in 60hz will be output at 24 hz? I thought 24 hz would look good output to 24hz but how would something like 60 translate to 24?

24 frame per second is the film frame rate and most (all?) film sourced Bluray discs are encoded at that frame rate.

60 frames per second is the video display rate on most TVs.

Since 60/24 is not an integer number, there is a motion artifact associated with going from 24 to 60 frames per second. Since they usually show one frame twice and the next frame 3 times (and repeat).

People would prefer to have 24 fps output to avoid this artifact.

In simple terms, a 24p output into a monitor or projector that can display it, gives smoother motion for 99.99% of movies.

I currently have my ps3 hooked up to a projector (Panasonic AE1000u) and it makes a difference.

...welcome?

Useless anecdote (not trying to rain on the parade or whatever, seriously):
I always hate when PS3 firmware updates come out, because this one old friend of mine who I kind of hate now always calls up wanting to come over with his PS3 so he can download the update using my intertubes (he lives out in the boondocks, and doesn't have access to any sort of broadband). I would tell him to buzz off, but I'm too nice to do that.

What's really annoying is that he always starts giving this weird sermon about technical video stuff that he doesn't understand (he's not technical at all), and he always uses terms like "distortion," "stretching," and "interpolate," (a term which he uses interchangeably with "anti-aliasing"), but in ways that are miles away from their proper technical definitions. It doesn't help that he absolutely refuses to really learn about what he's talking about, or to try and use at least vaguely proper terms, but if you point out his butchering of the terms, he launches into another spiel about how "oh, well that's just how I use the term, and I shouldn't have to change the way I think for anyone or any reason, so just deal with it." Bleh. So, yeah. Seeing as I don't have a PS3 or the intention to buy one, you'd think that I wouldn't care about it's firmware updates whatsoever, but in this odd way, I've come to dread their arrival.

The rearrange games function is completely useless, give me folders.

And you can't change video settings during PS3 games, that was misinterpreted from the early info from Japan.

• Change PS3 video settings in-game
How is this done?

Should be PS1/PS2 video settings.

Tried with a PS2 game and all you do is hit home and then go into settings. There it gives me two options: smoothing (on/off) and Screen Mode (Full/Normal).

Since, I gotta couple PM's I'll discuss this here...

- My PS3 'crashed' while updating to firmware 1.90. So far, I haven't heard of this happening to anyone else. I guess I'm unlucky.
- My PS3 first donwloaded the update, when while the install was occusing a brief message about 'corrupted data' occured. The screen went blank and then I saw the old PS1 logo, that displays the first time you boot your PS3.
- My downloaded games gave me a 'copy protection' error. Demos worked fine. I am in the process of redownloading these. (No biggie)
- My PSN info was lost, but entering my e-mail reactivated it.
- Also corrupted were my game saves, I had to delete these. Luckily, except for Resistance and Motorstorm, I wasn't too far into any other game
EDIT: Oh, shit I forgot about Gripshift.

- It now appears I have 1.90 functionality, although the firmware update seems lackluster.

DEXIX, it sounds more like your profile wasn't properly initiated, this save games linked to your console and profile no longer show up.

If you can somehow look on the hard drive I suspect your save games are still on there you'll just need to move them into the correct directory.

There are some pretty good wallpapers from the Transformers Movie (2007) here - http://weblog.404creative.com/index.php/2007/05/13/transformers-movie-wallpapers/

I have mine running the Megatron solo pic.

That site doesn't work for me?

Don't know what happened, the site was up earlier today. Oh well... sorry about that.

I updated to 1.9 with no problems. I love the in-game/movie upscale settings. Definately a lot easier to choose which looks best.

Whats the resolution that the theme image needs to be?

Crashed by system to a cold reboot at about the 50% mark; It mentioned something about corrupted data. I had to reenter in my PSN ID info and lost my game saves :(

Update: My downloaded games are giving me a error now; I have to re download them, I guess.

At least you didn't get the Red Ring of Death ;)

Oops, wrong system ;)

I thought the in-game settings would let you switch between 480p, 720p, and 1080i. oh well.
