Where is better to price match - Walmart, or Best Buy?

i was looking to get 2 3 month live cards, but after checking 2 circuit city's, i went to order it online but it was 27 shipped
instead i just went to buy.com and bought 12+1 months of live for $32 after GCO and free shipping

I thinK I got lucky. I ordered some online at 8 this morning, and got to the store at about five after ten and picked up a flyer as soon as I walked in so I could do the pricematch. The guy at online pickup had to pull my cards off the shelf, and he adjusted it no problem.
I got home and was playing Pac-man CE for a while, then the phone rang at 10:45 and my caller ID showed it was Circuit City. The gal on the other end apologized and said that my recent online order was out of stock. If I were dishonest, I could have asked for a $24 gift card, but instead, I told her not to worry, that I had picked my order up already and that someone had pulled it off the shelf for me.
It was weird that she didn't get around to trying to pull my order until a half hour after the store opened.

I was able to get both of my purchases from last week price adjusted. I bought 4 on one receipt and 2 on another. It took the manager a few minutes of reading the ad and me explaining for him to manually override it and give me $60 back on my credit card. I checked for the hell of it and just as I predicted, no 1600 point cards in stock. I went in the store a few minutes after they opened at 10. It is best to get these price adjustments as soon as you can. I used to work at CC and I know from experience if they don't want to sell these as buy one get one free they will put up a sign saying there was a mistake in the ad and they don't have to honor the ad. Also they put out emails to all the employees if there is a price mistake and they say not to honor them but if you are quick you can get it adjusted before the word gets around. Also there was a big sign up in the games department that said "buy 2 accessories and get $20 off" and it had the same items pictured as the ad (including the 1600 point card) so unless they take that sign down too and post an ad retraction you should be able to get in on the deal in store provided you can find point cards.

I guess recently I have been soured by CC. I went there to PM a monitor that Best Buy had advertised in their ad. The first problem was, I went there and no one would help me. One girl was counting money from her drawer in the middle of the store. This is totally wrong in the retail sector. Someone could've took money with ease, as she just had stacks of it out.
When I eventually did find someone to help, I went to buy it and the Customer Service manager would NOT PM. I asked to speak to her manager, and she said "NO". I'm assuming he was not there.
Just a horrible way the company is run (at least the one by me).
I will take the ad to Best Buy and get RZ points :)
Well now you know why a shitload of them shut down a couple years back.
Anyhow, off to take a shower, buy a newspaper and beg at Wal-Mart.

After 20 minutes of bitching... success!
At first EVERY EMPLOYEE gave me an attitude stating "It's only 10% off" then I showed them the GIANT BILLBOARD right infront of the games AND the Flyer and it took them TEN more minutes before they overrided it in their system. They only had four cards, and me and my friend ended up splitting them. So it worked out after alot of kinks. CC fucked up on this one big time, and I can't believe i had to wait 20 minutes through this ordeal. They also gave me an extra $1 off for whatever reason but I'm not complaining about that.

Yeah, they gave me the 'with an elite' line. Ordered 4 cards for pickup and tried to get it adjusted there... wasn't gonna waste my time. Did end up getting Lost Planet C.E. for 35.99+tax though...
The cards have been dropping off stock in-store all around according to the website, so obviously some people are arguing well enough or getting the right people to ring em up =\
i just PM'ed at my closest walmart...showed them the ad and even though they sell the 1600 points cards for $.02 cheaper they went ahead and rang them up for $10 each....came out to $21.55 for 3200 MS Points...thing is i got 4000 from smarterchild a couple days ago...anyone want to trade something for some points? PM me

I ordered online this morning - two 1600 point cards. They were supposed to be in stock at a location about :45 minutes away, so I figured "what the heck" and ordered them for store pickup.
When I got there they had been able to pull one for me but not two, so they were going to price adjust the online order down to the appropriate $20 off and then also give me a $24 gift card for the problem. I asked if I could go ahead and get a 4000 point card instead and still get the gift card, and the manager said "sure." So I ended up with $70 of points for $26 bucks plus tax. :D
now all we need is some good xbl games. whats a good one?

Basically It was a whole fiasco where you said certain words to him he would require you to install the MSN toolbar for MS points from 100-400 points. However, he was exploitable in the sense he would constantly give you points. Some people got over 10k (even 20k!) + points out of the "exploit" and don't have to worry about buying point cards for a LONG time. It was a charitable cause so I'm sure MS just did it as tax write off.
Either way, heres your chance to screw Circuit City out of losing money on these points while MS still gains. I doubt CC is gonna do another one of these deals for awhile as every store is different on handling the transation. Circuit City pulled a big fat DUD on their customer service and way of handling these situations.
However, I would like to thank SPEEDY for the headsup. If it weren't for him I would have never been able to get MS points at more then 50% off. Bomberman here I come!

Circuit City is the running joke of big box stores.
Anyone have a link to Wal-Mart's pricematch policy? My local Wal-Marts are a little... uhm... ethnic, and I'm worried without a good understanding of the policy to walk the clerk through the process, they'll think it's too much work and shoo me away so they can go back to gossiping and staring at their stick-on, oversized nails.

It's worth it since CC is losing even more money now, and it was only a 15 minute drive for me which is not even a half gallon of gas ($1.50) I think the biggest "not worth it" is if u make $50 an hour and your wasting 20 minutes waiting for them to overide it (my case).

I say go for it. Circuit City needs to get their acts straight when putting out deals like this. How can they expect someone to go in and spend thousands on their items with such shitty customer service? I'll be buying their items that they lose alot of money on like clearance games and this shit. I'm never buying anything at retail price from them ever again.

You missed my temper tantrum about them not PMing Monty Python a couple months ago. Straight out lied to my face, and corporate didn't care.
If they try to get over on me, I'll step it up a level.
I picked up my points a little before. I order online went their and the girl credited me the price of the 2nd one. So I got 2 cards for 21.19 or whatever it was. The girl new about the ad mistake at first she was like I think we're giving 10% off because of it, but then she said if I can get it to work then whatever so she asked someone how they're doing it and she said credit me and walla got 3200 points for half price.

That sucks. Not price matching one of the best movies ever? Man, the Knights of Ni need to kick their ass.
Atleast alot of people are having success it seems, but there shouldn't even be a failure rate of any % considering the deal is ADVERTISED. There are SIGNS next to the XBox 360 games even SHOWING the points card. That is why I can't believe it took twenty minutes for them go override my situation. False advertisement is a big no-no.
My CC was out (big surprise) so I tried to price match at Walmart and they claimed they don't price match B1G1 free deals, which this essentially was. Manager and everything came over.
ARGH.

Went in at 10:01. Of course they have one 4000 points card, and a single 1600 points card. I figure, what the hell, and go to the register. Of course, they don't ring up correctly. They take me to customer service. After fighting with them for about 15 minutes, they did the price adjustment, so I paid $53 for 5600 points.
The best line they gave me was, "This card isn't in the ad", and the guy holds up the 4000 point card. I'm like, the ad states $19.99 AND OVER. This card is $50.
Finally they caved in.
What was more interesting is that I went over to BB right when they opened. Again, they only had a single 1600 point card, and a 4000 point card (wtf). I grabbed them, went to customer service, and they had no problem price matching the deal at all. The total again was about $50. It literally took me 3 minutes from standing in line, to checkout at Best Buy, compared to almost 20 minutes over at CC (and I was the only one in line at CC).
It's no wonder that company sucks so bad.

Time consuming... but successful in getting 4 cards through this deal.
First Stop - Best Buy:
Walked in right when they opened (they were busy with all the Wii purchases). Grabbed two cards, CC ad in hand... score. Price matched with little problem. The manager was telling the cashier we normally will call for a price match, but it is only $20, so it was not worth his time. Total time in store: 5 minutes
Second Stop - Circuit City -
I ordered 2 cards online this morning for in-store pickup. I figured that if they didn't have them, I would at least get a $24 gift card. As expected, ONE employee taking care of all customer service, phones, pick-up. Dozens of other employees hanging out. After about 30 minutes in line, a second employee came over to help. So I told him that it was cheaper in store, to please match the store price. He had no real problem with it... but he did say, "I think you need to buy a system." I said, "No. It does not say that in the ad." He didn't argue. He did answer his cell phone for 3 minutes while trying to sort this all out. It took him about 10 more minutes to get the transaction to go through. Circuit City CS is awful! I am no Best Buy fan either, but compared to CC there is no contest. Total time: in store: 45 minutes
Overall, 4 cards for $40 a little time and gas. Not a bad deal. Hope all goes well for everyone else.

My local Circuit City had three 1600-point cards in stock. Bought two, it wasn't in their system correctly, but once I showed them the ad they corrected the price with no fuss. Also got the additional 10% off that some people here are reporting.
Also PMed another two cards at Best Buy. Somewhat unusually for that store they actually called CC to verify the ad.

Exact same story with me, although I gotta give some credit to the awesome attitude of the BB employees. I had 3 people involved in my run (one at register, one to approve, and one to type in the PM codes 6 times :))
I originally went up with 4, and asked if it would be alright to ask for 2 more (nearly compromising the whole operation), but he checked the ad and said it was cool.

Anyone order for in-store pickup and have them PM when you got there?
I ordered four from my local store for full price ($85 or so including tax) When I brought the ad up to the pickup window, it took her a while, but she eventually adjusted my order, making each card $9.99, so I got a $42 credit refund. I also found Hitman: Blood Money for $20. Even though the sticker said $30, and it rang up at $30, someone had crossed out the price on the little white card on the rack and handwritten $20, and they honored that price. Score for me today.

I went to the Eugene, OR location and there were 3 young men lined up at the front and rushed to the Xbox section only to be disappointed by the empty rack of 1600 point cards. Luckily I ordered 4 for in-store pick up an hour beforehand :)
I asked them to price adjust and they had some trouble because they were ringing up as $17.99 like everywhere else. The head CSR lady came by and said I had to buy the headset pictured with another accessory in order to get the discount (WTF?). I politely read the sale out loud again and asked her if 2 4000 points would give the discount. Eventually, they were able to manually forced the discount and I was on my way out.
For anyone doing in-store pick up, as long as you stick to your guns, you should be able to get the discount applied.

I had bought 4 from one CC earlier in the week and 2 from another. I didn't have any problems at first as I got my refund for the 2. Then when she tried to do the same for the 4, she said something about they only let you do one special promotion per ticket/receipt. So, I mentioned if I could return them and rebuy and she said that you can't return them  Luckily there was another CSR there who apparently had dealt with this earlier and said you have to put them in as BOGO free instead of whatever she was doing. I checked just to see if they had anymore in stock (to reinvest my newly acquired refund) and they were out.
All in all, ended up with 9600 points for a little over $60. I might end up getting some more later in the week though considering I don't find deals on these very often, and usually I don't want to buy whatever game they attach these two for the extra 5 dollars. I was foolish and missed out on the Gears of War deal last year as well, even though I saw plenty of them in-store. Oh well, great deal. Thanks as always speedy. Good luck to everyone else.

I ordered 2 for in store pick up. Waited about 20 minutes in line b/c there was only one CSA working, and then another 20 minutes for them to figure out how to refund me my 20 bucks and change. After some trial and error, they ended up doing a return on the cards and then rebuying it at 10 bucks per card. Took some patience, and I felt sorta bad for the CSA. She was getting pretty flustered.
Oh well, now to keep an eye on my credit card account to make sure the charges went through accordingly. Wouldn't want to end up having paid 60 bucks for 2 1600 cards :P
Edit:
Oh, and HarassmentPanda, my store said no such thing. It seemed to be agreed upon that someone had made an error in their system, and that the promotion was valid and should have been coming up correctly. Whether this is true or just their take on the situation remains unclear.

My experience today. Got to CC at 11:30. Only one 1600 point card left and no more in back. Talked to a store manager and got a raincheck. Found two Plantronics headsets on clearance for $1.96. Decided to take the 1600 point card and get that and a year service card (12+1 regular-they didnt have halo version) and went to check out. They couldn't figure out what the hell was going on. It does appear that ALL accessories are 10% (Charge kit was $17.99 for instance) and than a seperate promotion for xbox live accessories. The headsets rang up and full price and after 15 minutes with the shelf tag they figured out they could deny the price since the model was the plantronic XYZ30 and the tage was XYZ10 (forget the letters..made those up but it was the model 30 and 10 for sure) SO off those went.
Off to BB down the street. Walk in grab two cards and off to register. Have to call manager over. At first no problem than the cashier is waiting for him to take the $20 off and he says "Oh. ANother $20 off. I think you have to buy the system pictured. " Me " Humm the add and fine print don't indicate that" Him " Let me call CC" Fast forward 15 minutes and it was a go. Left store and sent wife in to grab two more.
When I think about cc and this deal I beat we will see a retraction later this week. I am willing to bet this was supposed to be a promo with the purchase of the elite. The other option was all accessories were discounted 10% this week (Thus the problems everyone had with stuff ringing up $17.99) and that would cause the 1600 point cards to fall below the $19.99 price to qualify.
Oh and someone in Lincoln isn't going to get their cards because the one I bought was listed not in system (which meant they were supposed to have pulled from online order) ;)

Total bust at the Irvine, CA store. And the painful kind. One guy was hanging around holding the last two in gloat-mode, and was actually seeing if he could find more. He had the last bunch in hand.
I went to BB to PM and they said we PM prices only, not offers. So I went and sat down in front of a cafe for a short while to let the frustration vent out and then came home to play some of my backlog.

Just drove back from my local CC, no ad corrections anywhere...Got 4 cards, ofcourse they didn't ring up correctly, but the guy called his manager and the manager checked the ad and told him to ring each one at $9.99. So I got 6400pts for $39.96. Thanks again for the heads up Speedy!!!!
Left a couple at Huntington Beach, CA (Bella Terra Mall) Location, plus I'm sure they have more in the back...

is this a raincheck or like a raincheck?
I would say this is NOT like a raincheck because I have a receipt that shows I have paid in full the 4 cards. If it was just a raincheck it would just be a paper showing what I would like to order.
I will try to scan my receipt and post it later.

Another bad day for this CAG (yesterday I got shafted returning Guitar Hero to Best Buy).
First, I hit up Circuit City about 20 minutes away. Grabbed an ad and seeked the 1600 points card. None. They didn't even have the rack thing for it. Odd. I hope they get a shipment this week because that's the only way I think I can take advantage of this deal.
Went up the road to Best Buy. No cards at all. Guess a CAG/FWer/SDer had the same plan as I did.
Drove down to CompUSA which is near my home. They had 3-month cards for $14.99 and 1600 points cards for $17.99. :cold: Maybe I should've tried to price match, but they already had a lower price and the deal is for accessories $19.99+. I left absolutely befuddled by CompUSA's low prices... I know where to get my Xbox accessories now.
Drove to the Best Buy which is nearby as well. Wow... The manager was a bitch. I grabbed 8 1600 points card after finding out their 3-month cards go for $29.99. I wanted to sell a few here and keep the rest of Oblivion and some XBLA goodness. Got to the cashier. He got his supervisor (I think she's the manager. She always inputted the code for the old GGC coupons). She said, I can only have two. Then I asked her "Why not? There's nothing in the Circuit City ad about limits." She said, "You'd have to ask Circuit City." Huh?! Then she left and the cashier put everything in, but they totally missed the $20 off on the ad. So, he got the supervisor back and I told her I wanted $20 off and then she said, "Oh. We don't do that kind of deals." I asked her, "What do you mean by that?" She repeated what she said and looked to another cashier and gave her a look as if I was crazy or something and they both laughed. What the hell?! I left crushed. I'm contacting corporate and make sure her ass is skewered. It's one thing to deny me the deal, but to diss me like that?
This is the first time I personally have been screwed over by Best Buy's "service." They used to one of my favorite stores, but now they're dead to me. :( I probably should've gotten it price-adjusted, but I know she would've been at the customer service desk to authorize that kind of price-matching.
Any CAG's in Maryland, skip the Columbia/Elkridge, MD one.

GREAT SUCCESS!
I went back at Noon to talk to the store manager. Turns out the guy was there when I was there earlier, though he did say he was out for a bit, so maybe that's what the other guy I talked to meant. Yeah, sure, but I can appreciate covering for an employee screwup. So I explain what happened earlier, and he says, yeah, those are accessories, should be no problem.
So we go back, and of course the cards were gone by then. So he looks around for a bit while I charge up my rant, and right before I launch, he turns around and says "Well, how about I give you two 4000 points cards for $25 a piece?"
:D
Yes please. So he has the cashier ring them up and discount them, and either he didn't notice or didn't care, but I also got the 10% off on top of that. $45 plus tax for 8000 points. Yeah.
I have to admit, the store manager certainly did his job. The entire time he made it seem like he was trying to please the customer. I certainly walked away satisfied.
Bomberman Ho!
I went to the CC in Garfield Heights, OH. They were sold out of 1600 point cards but they honored the discount for my instore pickup order of 2 1600 point cards. It just took the CSR a while to figure out what to do.

Thought I'd share my experience.
Got to CC a bit after 10, after preordering yesterday. Rang 'em up for $19.99 a piece, showed him the ad and he tried to adjust the price. Said something about them not being in stock (guessing that the SKU in the ad is for the 'open' hanging cards vs. the ones in encased in plastic, the ones i bought). said he'd have to call corporate to see how to ring it up, and to come back. came back an hour later and he said, 'it's supposed to be you get the $20 off if you buy 2 accessories with an elite.' needless to say, i asked for a refund and left. grabbed an ad on the way out and walked down to Best Buy and got them to price match no questions asked. Score!

I managed to get 4 cards. 2 I got off the shelf at 10:15 am(there were 3 there)....rang up at 17.99....cashier had a bit of an attitude...but with help from supervisor, they finally got it to ring at 9.99 each.
I had bought 2 last week, and took those to customer service after about 20 minutes. She too had a hard time, (no attitude though)....and again with help from supervisor, got them refunded to card, then rang them up 9.99 each.
So I got 4 cards and I'm happy. May try pricematch later at walmart.
Sad part is, I inputed 2 cards, they seem to take ok, but my point balance is blanked out for some reason....may have to call MS later..

So here's what went down for me :
I had ordered two 1600 point cards for $43. I went into the local CC and before I went to the counter, I went to the game dept. I bought 2 of the 3 cards there and had no problems PM'ing it to their ad for $21.40 with tax. Then I went to the car and dropped off the bag. I then went to the counter with my email and the ad. The CS guy checked the ad, refunded $20 to my CC and went to get me my cards. Turns out they hadn't pulled the cards and surprise, surprise : there was only one left! After a long while in the back, he gave me this offer : instead of 3200 points for $20 + tax, I could get a single 4000 pt card for $25 + tax instead. I could have made a big deal and demanded my $24 as promised online, but I decided to take the offer instead and not be a dick.
So bottom line : 7200 points ($90 value) for $45 + tax. Not too shabby! :D

I went up to the Columbus, OH Sawmill store and predictably they were entirely sold out. So, I grabbed a coke and went to check out and simply asked "So I take it you're out of the points cards." She said yes and then said she could special order them for me. So, that's what I did, put down my $40 and I have 4 1600-point cards on the way.
On a side note, I was making small talk while she was ringing it all up and mentioned "Did you run out of those super quick today?" and the cashier next to us said someone online ordered for in-store pickup all of the cards the store had first thing this morning. Thanks a bunch, horders. Kudos to Circuit City for being helpful with the special orders though, very cool that they do that and honor sale prices.

Was able to PM at BB after the CC in Rego Park Queens had none. They gave me a bit of a problem, saying that they usually limit it 1 set, and that they dont consider the 1600 point cards accessories, but they let me by 4 cards(2 seperate transactions), so I paid 43 bucks for 6400 points after tax!

CircuityCity gave me crap saying it wasnt an accessory but would give me $2 off each for their unadvertised sale. I even showed them their own website saying it is, but they said their website and store are different (screw you CC). So I returned all 4 I had ordered last week for in-store pickup.
Went to BestBuy across the street, picked up 4 with no problem.
On a side note. Last week CC to buy Hard-Boiled DVD and it was supposed to come with a free strategy guide and 10$ coupon. They never got it. I go back today only to find out that they did get them in (6 total) and sold out. I just bitched at them saying I was told you never got them and I could come back and get it. I told them I wouldn't have even bought the DVD if I had known they had run out of promotional items. The CSR even called 2 other stores to see if they had extra promo items left, sadly they didnt. I had opened the DVD and at first they said I couldn't return it, bitched at them some more until they finally told me I could return it.
Meanwhile some poor guy behind me had to wait 20+ minutes while I argued with the CSR.
Will probably go back Fri/Sat and get some more cards from BestBuy if I can.

I got the "Must purchase an Elite" response when I went to pick up my 4 on order. After a few minutes of discussion about the ad the manager gave in when she clearly didn't want to. The cashier helping me said that someone earlier in the day was denied by the manager and was unable to get them at the price I did. Unreal.

Well, I got the order in and paid in full, $64 odd for 6. Was only going to get 4 but after the hassle I thought I deserved more... Poor girl in CS had to override each one to 9.99 heh. They say I will be called, but I suppose I don't mind calling in twice a week just in case. Could try checking stock online too.
So despite the bad experience with the 'buy an Elite' bullshit at one store this morning, CC has slightly redeemed themselves at my more local one. Of course it shouldn't have happened that way anyway, but... meh, damn good deal nonetheless if you get it.

I camped my local CC for the cards (LOL, no need), and got all four they had. Their registers didn't have anything set up, so the cashier said she'd just take off $10 from each one. Instead, she set the price for $9.00 each and I got all four and tax for $38.something.
YMMV, but if try it-the registers don't seem to have any convenient way to simply take $20 off the price. Good Luck all, and thanks for the heads up, speedy!

I'm pretty pissed - not sure who else tried in Manhattan but this is what I experienced...
Union Square - deal not in the system - manager said i that I would be required to buy 3 to get 2. Took a couple of tries since the idiots didn't know that discounts of $8, $12, or $18 isn't $20 off. Took the 3 for essentially one free but not opening up just yet
79th and Broadway - no more cards but was told by a very unfriendly person that the promotion is incorrect even though they put a big poster advertising it and that the right promotion is 10% off only
I plan on going to Union Square during the week in hopes that I can deal with people that can actually read and do simple math
I had bought 6 cards, four from one CC and 2 from another on Friday.
Today, I woke up around 1pm and went to the Best Buy next to the CC I had bought four from. I was able to get four PM'd at Best Buy, and then I went to CC and was trying to get my price adjustment, but they'd only do it for two of them. I then decided to go back to the best Buy nearby, but didn't have the ad with me anymore and decided to go to the next CC to get my refunds.
At that CC, they gave me the refund for the 2 I had bought, plus I got them to refund the 2 the other place wouldn't. I then went to the BB by that CC and fhey had a ton of cards, but wouldn't even let me PM 2 of them. I then drove back to the first Best Buy to get more cartds, but once again, had forgot the ad, so I went into CC and took an ad, then went back to BB and got their last 2. So in total, I got 12 cards!

Is it legal to put out an ad with a price clearly indicated, put up an endcap display with a photo of the same deal with a picture of the item, no less, and then refuse to honor it? I'm especially pissed that some of you guys encountered SHAQ-FU'ing "made it up on the spot" offers for lesser deals. Seems like the classic illegal "bait and switch" technique. It's also really crappy to run an ad in every Sunday paper in the nation and then have like four of the item in stock in each store.
I got to my Circuit City this morning before they opened (only one in line!) and bought all four cards they had. The manager put through the discount without a problem after reading the ad (like any honest person would). The register didn't do it automatically; the cashier and manager thought that the software hadn't updated for this week's sales yet. They were even friendly about it.
I'm happy I got the deal, but I'm pissed for those of you who wasted time and gas being lied to by Circuit City. You should all file complaints with the BBB.

I went to the CC on Midlothian Turnpike, and they had 1 card left. I took the ad across the street to BB, and they price matched with no problem. The manager barely looked at the ad. She rang it up exactly as it was stated in the ad, buy one get one $20 off. They had several left, which, if they are still there on Tuesday, I will pick up if D&D Tactics gets decent reviews.
CC around here will usually PM anything, as their corporate headquarters is 20 minutes away from anywhere in Richmond. My wife used to work in their corporate headquarters, and we used and abused their PM policy to death. Usually the key to getting a stubborn manager to relent on a PM deal (or in this case actually honor a printed deal) is to threaten to call corporate.
Again, many thanks Speedy.

Man, I love CAG.
So I ordered 2 @ 19.99 each at about 8:00 PST this AM. I went into the store a little after 10:00. Some guy had come in right when they opened and cleaned them out.
So I see this guy running around to fill my order--behind the guy who already grabbed the points. I go to the Customer Service desk with a nice smile on and hand them my paperwork. Some dude walks away with it and never comes back. His colleague handles my order. "Oh we just called you and left a message, this is out of stock." OK, I say. "Would you like me to order more for you, I'll get you your $24 gift card right now." Sure, I say, and can I buy 4 total and get this deal?, I say [pointing at flyer] "Sure"
So she rings it up (and it takes about 20 minutes), and she applies the $24 gift card right onto the order. So, I'm getting 6400 points for $16+tax on $40. That works out to about $5/1600.
I think I'm going to be good on points for a while! :) At least I will be when they finally come in...

Update:
Since the other Best Buy (Lacey, WA) is close to my house, I decided to run out there... They had TWELVE 1600 point cards on the shelf!! I took all 12 to the counter... the girl had to call the manager, saying something like "more of those xbox cards." I guess the other guy came in earlier, had the same clerk, and only grabbed 4. Anyway, the manager came over and said I could only buy 3. I talked him into 6, using "3 package deals" as a reason. So, I got 6 more. He stood there and put them all in at $9.99 each.
I'm thinking of going back later before they close... and after the shift change and trying to get any that are still there.

My friend went to Circuit City this morning here in Macon, GA for the deal. They only had one 1600MS card. He asked them about the deal. The cashier told him that he wasn't aware of any such deal. He went and got the manager, who proceeded to come off even stupider.
He tried to tell him that the deal was only good with the purchase of an Xbox 360 Elite because it was pictured in the block. He quickly called bullshit on this, saying, "So by this logic, you're saying I'd also have to purchase Guitar Hero II and an Xbox 360 wireless controller since they are pictured too?" He just kept saying that he had to buy the console to get the deal. This back-and-forth went on for about 15 minutes until he finally stormed out.
When he got home, he called another Circuit City and asked them about the deal. Whoever answered went to ask a manager. He came back and said the deal was only for accessories. He said he had no idea where the manager got the idea you had to buy an 360 Elite.
This only increased my frustration, since I knew I couldn't get it from there.
This Circuit City has a history of not honoring deals like this. Back when Shadowrun was released in May, they had a deal where if you bought Shadowrun, you got a Xbox 360 game priced at $19.99 for free. When I and a friend went up there to do this, we were simply told, "We're not doing that deal." It was pointed out to them on the ad about the deal and just up and decided they didn't want to.
Anyways, I came home and grabbed my ad and went to Best Buy. They had five 1600 point cards in stock. I grabbed two and went to customer service. The lady spent 15 minutes on hold with Circuit City just trying to get a hold of someone to tell her if something was in stock.
While on hold, she asked me if I had been by Circuit City today. I told her of the shenanigans and she asked to see the ad again. She looked at it really closely and said, "This says absolutely nothing about buying a console." She asked me for the manager's reasoning and I told her about the "well, it's pictured with the deal". She rolled her eyes and said the people there are idiots.
She finally got a hold of somebody, verified that they had them in stock, and I happily walked out with 3200MS points for $21.38.
And on Monday, my friend and I will be filing complaints with the Better Business Bureau against Circuit City.

Haha... what a joke... it's too bad most of us can't really afford attorneys, cause this is one deal that ought to spur a class action lawsuit on principle. I'm sorry... there's just waaaay too much evidence in here of bait & switch tactics... whether they did it on purpose or not, they need to be held accountable.

I went to one of the CC's here in Knoxville today- had to wait for a while because they couldn't find the guy in front of my in the computer- had to listen to the employee whine about their new computers for a while. He took me to another register to ring me up and triied to charge me full price. I showed him the ad that I had in hand just in case and he fiddled with the computer for about 5 minutes, then sold them to me for $8.99 apiece.

Just thought I'd drop a note for the unlucky CAGs who got to CC this morning and found all the points sold out.
I showed up about an hour after open and ALL the points were gone. I got to talking with the sales guy, and a guy came in about 5 minutes after open and bought everything they had (can you say "hoarder").
Anyway, after talking for a bit he said they could order more for me, and they'd come in either tomorrow or the next day, I just had to put $4 down on it.
So all you unlucky CAGs, if you didn't score the points, go back and they should be able to order you as many as you want .
Just trying to help :)

Heh. I pricematched the CC advert at BB since my local CC was sold out. Now I have soem points for when I get my 360 in a couple months.
I'm not suprised these things are sellign but there have been better points opportunities for cheaper.
Wasn't there soem deal in the past where you could pre-order something, get the points for $5, and then cancel the pre-order?

I wonder how Microsoft is reacting to this, if this is a mistake that CC made. If 50k people across the country take up this deal MS is out of a million $. Since many people pick up more than one card, maybe 50k of these transactions can happen. I know that 1 million is a drop in a bucket compared to the 1 billion they are spending on the new warranty, but still I'm sure it's something they would like to avoid.

07-29-2007, 07:27 PM
Okay, so I went to pick up my cards today and I got a little bit hassled by the Supervisor & probably the assistant manager.
They mentioned that the MS Points are not accessories, but as "Gift Cards". Then I said, if they are like Gift Cards, then I shouldn't be paying sales tax for them.
They had a few issues with the other guys that tried...fellow CAGers in Pomona I hope, but what they did was that they had override the price and gave me half my money back (For the 2 other cards I paid full price), so one more victory to the CAGers, but I bet most Circuit Cities will post an "ad correction" for this fiasco.
I went to Best Buy and tried to PM for 4 more cards, but I lost. They said that they don't do "promotional matches", just price matches.
Edit: I noticed that I did not received a receipt for my refund...let's hope that money is back on my card, or heads will fucking roll

I can't remember a single time that points have ever been half price (or less). You are basically buying a form of currency here.
That was the promo for Halo 3 at BB. If you preordered, you got the card for $4.99. Cancel the preorder, and they charge you the entire $19.99 amount for the card.

Well I guess I got lucky. Took some effort though. This stupid loser employee tried to convince me that you had to buy the elite to get the deal since it wasn't working. I explained to him several times why he was wrong and then eventually they could not find the promo package that they thought exsisted when buying an elite. Another weird thing was that the points were ringing up 17.99....Anyway, long story short I got two adjusted at 9.99 each.

I had a remarkably easy time with this deal, which is amazing after all the problems I read. I ordered 2 cards for store pickup back on Wednesday, but after reading the problems I decided I should hit up BB first thing at opening to try to price match before I went to CC and got in a big fight. Forgot it was Wii-Day but luckily they were all herded to a separate area to buy their stuff. Went to the same person at BB who's denied me 'bundle' PMs before but she had no problem pricematching this deal with CC-- I only got 2 points cards. (They had a ton more) In and out in about 5 minutes (I think the only other people in the store were the Wii line)
Went down to Circuit City to pick up my order, fully expecting a huge runaround. Showed the cashier my confirmation, she got the points, I mentioned I wanted a price match, she said "Oh yeah, these are on sale, I saw that earlier", took $10 each off, absolutely no arguments/problems with the ringup/etc.
So I ended up with 4 cards with absolutely no hassle or aggravation. Sorry to everyone who's having problems. And thanks to Speedy for the advance warning, although I'm not sure I really NEEDED 4 points cards!!

If the website is in fact down due to the MS points deal, then you'd have to figure they'd be losing plenty of business by online shoppers who are buying something else and have no interest in points whatsoever. They see the site is down, go "Oh, well" and click on over to Bestbuy.com or Amazon. Sunday afternoons are prime time for online shopping as most people aren't working.

Brought over the 4 cards I picked up earlier in the week from an in-store pickup order to my local CC and had it PM'd without any issue. The CC rep just adjusted the entire order $40 off + tax, as it was quicker to do that instead of doing the return + rebuy or the individual adjustments off each item.
Picked up the two 2-card orders I did for in-store pickup at that store, picked up both orders, then the same rep knocked $20 off each order, same reasoning, quicker and easier.
Total process took about 15 minutes or so, and I ended up with 8 of the 12 cards so far. I have to pick up the other 4 cards on the way home from work, as they were at a store that's semi-close to work but not from home. Should do the same PM there at that store, and I'll make sure to bring the receipts from the other CC just in case.
I didn't have any time to check for other cards at that store, though I'll see about that store when I get over there tomorrow. Might try for a PM opportunity or two when I run by CC to pick up a PS3 mem card adapter for next week's PM.

Mine didn't have any in stock, so I went across the street to BB and PMd them. The dipshit guy at CC told the girl on the phone that you had to buy 3 to get the discount. I need to go back over to CC tomorrow probably and find who it was and tell them that they need to get their shit straight before they open their god damn mouths.

Damn another NYC CAGer :P
I went to both those stores and even the E 86th one. None of them had em on the shelves when i came in (Union Square 10:30ish - 79th 11:00ish - 86th 1:00ish) But I had 4 cards for instore pickup at each of em...
The Union Square one didn't give me too much trouble with the money back took about 15min. because the CSR didn't really know how to fix it and had to get someone else to fix it.
The 79th area one didn't have my 4 cards so she just gave me a $24 Gift Card.
E 86th gave me some trouble about I had to get 3 cards 2 for $20 each then get the 3rd for free then I explained the ad then after some more talking she changed her mind saying that I needed to buy the XBOX 360 Elite to get that deal (because its pictured directly to the left in the ad) but after another 5 min. or so she finally relented and gave me 4 cards for the price of 2.
So I got 8 Cards for about $90 after tax and got a $24 GC

I was at my local CC @ opening - literally the first person in the store - Zero 1600 point cards in the store (online shopping showed it in stock, but who knows how accurate that is most of the time). Called a CC 40 miles away, they had 2 in stock; not worth spending $12 in gas and 2 hours to save a total of $8 - last ditch effort I started calling the local Wal-Marts. Found one about 16 miles away that had plenty of 1600 point cards - dropped by and scooped up 6 (9600 pts) and had them price matched for ~ $60. Good score since I use the points not only for the 360 but also for my Zune music - $.50 a song is not too shabby! Not to mention that I believe most of the arcade games (keyword most) are not worth $10 (not to mention 2400 pts/$30 for the big Oblivion expansion!), but $5 should set it just about right :bouncy:

I know the Burbank location hasn't carried the cards since GHII came out. They still owe me.
Still my buddy went to one location this morning, and I went to another. No point cards came in, but we did get rainchecks. I do hope they'll honor them.

Still my buddy went to one location this morning, and I went to another. No point cards came in, but we did get rainchecks. I do hope they'll honor them.
This reeks on another CC scam, like the 2Pm until the end of the business day 'gift card guarantee' that they seldom honor.
You should come to Riverside/Moreno Valley, they have a ton here. I wasnt able to get the deal at CC, but I was able to PM at BestBuy across the street.

Just got back from a succesful BB price match. Just took them up and showed the ad. They had no problem which works for me since i like my reward zone points. Hope to make a second trip this week. They had at least 40 cards at BB.
No go at my BB. Lame.

Sorry...haven't read the whole topic...but couldn't you also buy 2 one year XBL cards for $49.99 and get essentially get 2 years for one?

$50 + $50 - $20 = $80

So those that PM'd at BestBuy did you just bring the cards to Customer Service? Or did you ring em up at full price and had Customer Service refund the $20 discount?
I took the CC ad plus 2 cards to the manager at the front of the store and said I wanted them to PM the competitors ad. He said to go over to Cust. Svc. and they would honor the price match. The CSR looked at it, went back over to the manager I talked to before to verify and came back and processed the sale. I actually stopped her to run and grab 2 more cards. No hassle what-so-ever.

Well I had some success going today. I skipped going to CC completely and started at frys and looked for the 360 1600 points cards... we checked the case but we did not see any. He went to check the computers and he said they dont even have them in there system.
So I got to BB and they have a sh*t load of points cards originally I was going to get 6 of them but the person only let me PM for 2 cards... I was happy with getting something I will probably go back to the BB and do it again soon :)

I went and picked up my order from a few days ago.
The managered didn't look happy(almost like he had been pestered by people all day long about this deal.) to fix the price to match the AD but he did it with out any trouble.
Score 2 for me.
And on another bright note the Vegas Red map pack that I was going to buy... is free. :) :applause: Rock on.

Man you guys lucked out. Our CC had no cards. I went to BB and I think I got the customer service manager or something cause after he read the ad like 4 times, he was ok with it, but called to check in stock. So I went to Walmart and got shot down because the manager said it falls into their "No Gimmick" ads, which includes B1G1, Buy X get X off, X% Off, etc.
Sucks. I guess I'll try CC and maybe again at BB later in the week.

Well I'm on 24 hour callout and I got a call this morning and CC was in route, got in parking lot at 9:40 and I was first person there. As it got closer to 10 am a few vehicles show up, at about 9:53 a guy pulls up, then jumps out his car and stands at the door, at 9:55 they open the door. I get out and ask for a flyer as I walk through the door which took the associate about a minute to find(figured I'd have to fight for the price). As I walk to the gaming section the same guy that jumped up and ran to the door is standing there with 2 1600 points cards in his hands waving them and yelling to me "I got em". It was the only 2 also he had already asked if they had more which they didn't.
Thats the only bad things about deals like this, there are always some asshats out there with no courtesy, needless to say I was ticked :bomb:

Was able to PM at Best Buy at checkout with the approval of a manager. $60 for 9600 points is not bad at all. thanks Speedy.
My in-store pickup at CC was usueless today as their system was down and they only had one card behind the Customer Service counter in Sunnyvale. Oh well. This should last me for awhile and definitely help with the song purchases for Rock Band.

I was able to pick up the last 2 in my store, then told them I spoke to someone on the CC hotline, and they said I could special orfder them to the store. Asked if I could order 4, and it took them a bit, but they got it done. May go back later this week and grab a few more this same way, as with Rock Band coming out I'll need plenty of points!

Phoenix, AZ here. I called ahead to the nearby Circuit Cities only to find out they were out of stock, so I brought up the weekly ad on the CC website, printed out the page the offer was on (http://akimages.crossmediaservices.com/dyn_rppi/592.0.90.0/circuitcity/large/070729_22_sojg9.jpg) and set out to see if a few places would PM. Best Buy immediately refused since CC was out of stock (apparently they had dealt with people asking earlier that day #-o), and I guess Target and GS just don't PM at all.
Finally went to the Fry's Electronics and handed the customer service person the print-out. They disappeared for what seemed like 10 minutes, then finally someone else came out and told me they were checking it over with Circuit City, and disappeared again. Another long wait, so I'm already detecting a little stink-eye. After a while, they came out and sort of gave a bit of guff about how it says "Xbox Live accessories", so I just pointed out it was listed alongside headsets and controllers and Live! subscription cards, and they disappeared again saying they'll talk to the manager. Finally, after a few minutes they came out with a print-out to hand to the cashiere for four 1600 cards for $10 each. :D
So, success for me, but PMing is definitely a YMMV situation. They also asked for my phone number when finally putting the print-out together. I hope I wasn't black-listed!

The CC at Grossmont is retarded.
I placed a pickup order at the regular price for 2 cards and was planning to get a price adjustment at the store.
Manager: You have to buy an Xbox 3, corporate called us about it.
Me: (blank stare)...you mean the Xbox 360?
Manager: No, the black Xbox 3, it just came out.
Me: Well, I'm not going to be an asshole customer and keep these people behind me waiting, so cancel my order.
I proceed to point at the advertisement in front of her, and she still denies the price adjustment. Even both the employees at the registers said "Really? It doesn't state that in the ad."
The manager walks away, and as one of the employees finishes cancelling my order, one of them says "Hey, hold on, I'll ring you up" and gives me the discount anyway before the manager comes back. Finally, a fucking competant person at CC.
I then go to BB in Santee and got the PM no problem for 2 more cards, the manager asked "is this the same guy again?" so that means someone was hear earlier for the deal.
Scored 4 cards for myself in all today. Going to hit up BB Mira Mesa tomorrow to see if I can snag 2-4 cards for you CAGs if you guys still need some.

I had part of the day off today, and thought i might as well give this a shot. But i got to C.C. and they were all out of cards. Oh well.
I do see that there is another CT CAGer here. I did see someone arguing with the employees about the deal in the store. Maybe that was you Monsta. I went to the one in Meriden. Congrats to all that managed to get this. I have a feeling CC might not be doing anything like it for a while.
Yes that was me and my friend we cleared out the whopping 4 Circuit City cards. My wife was astonished as was my friend the "fight" CC was doing. They were giving us the blank stares of doom. Nice to see you and speedy are from CT.
If anyone here works at Circuit City can they please clarify how the hell they can pull "You must buy the 360 elite!" out of their ass? I've seen several posts about CC employees asking for people to buy it. What's the deal?

My local CC was out of 1600pts cards. Eventually the CSR did a special order for me, got a manager to price adjust it, and I got 2 cards coming whenever the next shipment is, at an unspecified future date. They are supposed to call me when they get in. Will it be an issue when I pick them up, that these cards have to be activated to work? I've already purchased them w/o the individual card being run through the point of sale system at the CC. Am I gonna have to fight about this in the future?
I tried to get my local wal-mart to PM, but the CSM went and printed out the policy, which said something to the effect of "We do not honor a sale price that requires the purchase of an item to get the sale price on the second item." It looked close enough to me, so I gave up.
Has there been a correction of this yet by CC?

What do you mean? I know I've spent far more points than that on arcade titles since getting my 360, along with some downloadables. Why the hell not stock up when they're cheap if you know you'll use them eventually? I got 8 cards and still plan to grab more before weeks end.

I went to the Lewisville, TX Circuit City at 6pm and picked up an ad went to the shelf where they usually keep 1600 point cards to find they removed all the tags and put other crap in its place. I asked an employee about them and he says they only had something like 13 cards to start the day with, but he can special order them like he did three times earlier that morning. I went to the CS desk and they tell me, "I can't do that, we don't really order stuff for our customers." He's the store manager and clearly an asshole, I laugh in his face and leave. Then I went to the Best Buy across the highway and the CSR says I have to buy everything on the top half of the page to get $20 off! WTF? I told her to check with the manager and he oks it without a second thought, 4 cards at $40 something, great fucking deal! I had a friends in Plano and Flower Mound BBs get denied so Lewisville is the place to go. They had plenty left, get em while you can.
Good luck!
BTW-CC said they were getting more on Tuesday so rip them off all you want then.

Yep. I got 4 there with very little trouble (and there were tons more on the pegs). They didn't understand the ad at first because the 1600 points cards ring up the same as at CC ($19.99). Once I explained the $20 on 2 thing (making it like a Buy 1 Get 1 free) they said "OK, no problem". Then I went to CC and had no problem whatsoever adjusting my receipt from last week. I didn't even have to explain - they just did it in silence. Very nice.

Fry's is usually one of the last places I go to PM anything since I've had the same "wait and see: experience with mixed results. If the discount is 50% or more of the normal sale price they have to have the manager's approval from what I've learned. BestBuy may sometimes be a pain but it's a walk in the park compared to Fry's or CC for that matter.

Yeah, I was going to say the same. At least at my Fry's, they are very thorough about calling to see if it is in stock at the store you are trying to PM. I once waited over a half hour and they finally reported back that it wasn't in stock at the competitor's store, so no dice. I don't know how Pyramid Head got around that requirement with all the checking they did on the deal ;). I didn't even bother with Fry's - luckily BB and CC themselves were pretty easy this time around. I did try to PM at Gamecrazy (mine does PMs - most don't) but they said it had to be a specific price (if it was shown at $9.99 they'd have done it). I didn't argue since the guys are pretty cool and I've gotten a few games PM'd there in the past. I would have preferred to use my GC credit, making it even cheaper, but cash at BB and CC will work. Now, what the hell am I going to do with 10 1600 points cards?

Well, I need to review the XBLA titles and check out what is coming out soon (I know there's at least 4 I want later this year - that's 2 cards right there). Plus I've heard Beautiful Katamari will have DLC and with half-priced points I'm more willing to get that kind of stuff. I'd be willing to pass some on, but not this early. It's only been the first day after all - it wasn't a 1-day sale so it's not like that means you can't get them any more. CC will probably restock (these aren't like some clearance game) and you can get BB or some other place to price match all week long. 1600 points cards are not in short supply ;). If people are still struggling with it at the end of the week I may throw a few up on my trade list.

Went to the nearest Circuit City by me,which is a half hour drive from my house with a friend, and they were sold out of the. They said some guy came it right as they opened the store and cleaned them out. Judging by the area where they keep them...just one peghook of them. They probally only had like 10 to 15 max. So I went to the Wal-Mart in the same city and they said they couldnt do it since it said "Save $20". Which I know is a bunch of crap because it also listed the price, and I know Wal-Mart price matches things as long as it doesnt say to take a percentage off.
After that went to a closer town and tried price matching at Best Buy. The cashier was going along with it just fine, but when she rang them up she said she needed an override and called a manager over and the manager denied the offer. Manager said "We can't do package deals. Where the heel does it say package deal on the ad?!! It doesn't. So she said she could let me do 2 and 2 only. So I'm like alright. Than she told me shed have to call the closest Circuit City to see if they had any in stock. Which of course they didn't since me and my friend just came from there. So she refused it it. Did however pick up a copy of Def Jam Icon for $30. They had a 50% sticker on it.
After that my friend and I tried our last resort, the Wal-Mart in that city. Took the ad back and they let us do it. :D
Funny thing is Best Buy had a small amount of 1600 point cards as well. Only had 10 on a peg. While Wal-Mart had about 100 or more. They had the Guitar Hero themed ones and Gears of War themed ones too. Pretty crazy. So me and my friend pitched in $50 a piece and bought 10. Took 5 each. Pretty sweet deal. I got $70 still, but I don't know if I want to buy anymore. I know its a hell of a deal. But I bought everything I wanted with those 5 cards, and still have 2000 points left. I know within time there will be alot of stuff I'm going to want though. Than again..I also want to save that money for Blue Dragon when it comes out...............decisions....decisions.
They probally only had like 10 to 15 max.
I'd be surprised if they had that many - that would be a lot of stock for most CC's. I went to 2 last week right when news of the sale broke and 1 store only had 2 and the other only had 4 (both showed OOS the night after I bought them so they weren't hiding more in the back). I just checked and the 3 stores that still had some in stock as of Saturday have now, as expected, run out. But from my experience I doubt they had any more than 2-4 to begin with. Best Buy, on the other hand, had plenty (at least 10 - if I see more than a handful I think they are well stocked, couldn't imagine 100 at a Walmart ). If I find myself by another Best Buy this week I'll try to get some more strictly for other CAG's. There's no use letting them rot on the Best Buy pegs at full price ;).

The best thing about Fry's is that they open before everyone else, usually 8am. So if you get there early and get a price matched, they will try to call the other store but no one will answer and they'll just give you that price.

I wouldn't say this is due to hoarders, but more due to BB's price-matching policy. Most stores will only price-match a price and not a deal and/or offer. That's why some people got it at BB and some people didn't. It's totally up to the discretion of the CRS or manager.

I don't agree. There are scores of people who weren't able to get any, even with advance knowledge. I bought two last week, and my store sold out before Sunday. Best Buy was also wiped, I guess they did the price match here.
Leave it to CC to have something great on sale, and have minimum quantities. The entire city of Atlanta is sold out at CC.

I am apprehensive that this whole special ordering thing at CC is going to be a fiasco. Would a CC employee please put my fears to rest, about whether it will be an issue that we have prepaid for the points cards, as some of the points cards in the past have been activated by the store's POS system at the time of purchase. This is to avoid someone scratching off the codes in the store or shoplifting them. Maybe it's only applicable to the Walmart cards that are deviod of packaging? It would suck to wait weeks for the shipment I specially ordered, then to get home, scratch the barcode, the points not work, and have to go explain to CC what they did wrong and convince them to return 'em.
My receipt did have the XBL 1600 points code CC product number on there, but I didn't see anything differentiating one points card from the other, or any date of delivery - it's only "unspecified".

The 1600 points card isn't even listed on CC's web site anymore.

Well, I checked the store that supposedly had them in stock according to the website and nothing. The girl did say she thought they were getting more during the week though so I'll keep checking.

SUCCESS! Painful, time-consuming success! I'm not even sure it was worth it. :P
I ordered 4 of them online last week and went in this morning to pick them up and price match. Long story short, the following occurred within the 45 minutes-hour
-I was told they were part of a package
-I was told that they were not the same item
-I was told they were 17.99 therefore not valid
-I was told they were normally $30 and the price in the flier reflected the discount already
-I was left standing at the customer service desk while she went to talk to the manager no less than 3 times for a minimum of five minutes each time
I finally asked to speak directly to the manager, at which point she agreed to get him. After another 5+ minutes of the manager not coming to the front of the store, she took $37.99 (???) off the $84 I was originally charged for the online order. She said she was only taking $37 off because of the tax. I realize I was still charged more than I should have been, but at that point I didn't care.
I ALWAYS get shut out of the good deals because I'm not a savvy pricematcher or I can't argue with customer service because I don't want to get combatitive. I wasn't letting this one slide.
4 cards for $47 is still a darn good deal, even if I did get taxed twice. It works out to be close to my hourly rate so I'll just consider it another hour of work. :P
Thanks speedy!
