I don't agree. There are scores of people who weren't able to get any, even with advance knowledge. I bought two last week, and my store sold out before Sunday. Best Buy was also wiped, I guess they did the price match here.
Leave it to CC to have something great on sale, and have minimum quantities. The entire city of Atlanta is sold out at CC.
I hate the CCs in Atlanta. Luckily I have relatives that live in Albany that picked me up some cards =)

First of all, my Circuit City pulled all the 1600 points cards and tags. Nice.
The Best Buy in Schaumburg (IL) will 'no longer price match'. I tried to get 6 in one shot on lunch and was told they'd only do 2. I tried reasoning with them that there's no limit in the ad, but no dice. They've got a bunch, but they're not doing the price match after me, according to the store manager (tool). Oh, and I was originally told that points cards aren't accessories... till I pointed it out to them three times in the ad.
Toys R Us won't price match.
Off to the Bloomingdale BB and CC after work.

Had to do a special order from CC. God, what a nightmare. At least I'll have the points by next week.

Went to Circuit City on North Ave in Chicago this morning. No cards, but picked up a flyer and went next door to Best Buy. 20-30 cards on the shelf, I took 4 to the CSR. He knew exactly what I was doing, called over his supervisor for the approval. Out the door in less than 10 minutes, no hassles at all.

Looks fine on my screen:

Shows OOS for all the stores in my area, save two.
Save that link... searching for "1600 points" yesterday pulled up the page, today it pulls up a bunch of unrelated cell phones and other crap.

I put in a special order at the Circuit City up on Sawmill. I paid my $40 and I'll get a phone call when my 4 cards are in. So, didn't have to pricematch. I will say I was up at the Target at Easton on lunch and they're out of the cards, so I'm sure some price matching has gone on.

So I got the cards PMed @ Walmart. However, these are the cards that you have to swipe through the register to activate. They clearly say on the card "no valid unless swiped."
However, the incompentent manager continued to persist with me, saying that "oh if you scan the barcode then void it out, it'll be still valid." Basically, two of my cards weren't scanned at all. Do you know if the system is acurate...am I with two dead cards?

SUCCESS! Painful, time-consuming success! I'm not even sure it was worth it. :P
I ordered 4 of them online last week and went in this morning to pick them up and price match. Long story short, the following occurred within the 45 minutes-hour
-I was told they were part of a package
-I was told that they were not the same item
-I was told they were 17.99 therefore not valid
-I was told they were normally $30 and the price in the flier reflected the discount already
-I was left standing at the customer service desk while she went to talk to the manager no less than 3 times for a minimum of five minutes each time
I finally asked to speak directly to the manager, at which point she agreed to get him. After another 5+ minutes of the manager not coming to the front of the store, she took $37.99 (???) off the $84 I was originally charged for the online order. She said she was only taking $37 off because of the tax. I realize I was still charged more than I should have been, but at that point I didn't care.
I ALWAYS get shut out of the good deals because I'm not a savvy pricematcher or I can't argue with customer service because I don't want to get combatitive. I wasn't letting this one slide.
4 cards for $47 is still a darn good deal, even if I did get taxed twice. It works out to be close to my hourly rate so I'll just consider it another hour of work. :P
Thanks speedy!
Sorry to hear about all the CRAP CC is pulling on this deal but at least you got a fair deal.
If I were getting screwed over like some CAG'ers have reported, I would starting filing letters of complaint with your own state's Better Business Bureau as well as notifying the Attorney General.
We've got an excellent Attorney General here in Connecticut and he no doubt would very interested in hearing about what's going on in different cities with Circuit City. They (as a company) really can't afford bad press at this time and if the media spotlight were brought to bear upon them, they might do the right thing and suck it up this week.
Honestly.... what can they say? Could they get away with: "Well, the ad is open to individual intepretation?" I think not.
The deal is laid out EXACTLY as I stated, and as it is stated in the ad that by now ALL of CAG, SD, FW as well as the rest of America has seen.
There are no asterisks pointing to mini-print at the bottom of the page stating that anything OTHER than 2 XBOX 360 LIVE accessories $19.99 & UP need be purchased in order to obtain the $20 discount.
I think that if would be far better for CC to admit that they had no idea that this deal would have this HUGE impact and for them to say that they will honor the deal for any interested parties through Saturday. That is what honorable companies do. They admit and honor their mistake except when to do so would cause them great financial harm (which might mean in this instance that they set an 6 - 10 card limit per customer).
The tactics that they are resorting to in their avoidance of this deal (ie. swapping out peg boards where cards were previously displayed and putting other items up in their place; telling customers that you need to buy this Elite XBOX in order to get the $20 discount; telling customers at store opening that 1 customer appeared before store open to buy up every card that was in stock) are pretty crass and foul in my opinion.
The bargain hunters in all of us really love to cash in on a good deal every now and then. It makes us feel good that we were paying attention and were able to stretch our spending dollars just a little bit further. But NO ONE likes to have their time wasted on a deal that some Circuit City stores have decided not to honor in any manner.
But keep in mind that this deal was an ADVERTISED deal. Which means that someone at Circuit City thought it up, got it approved and then got it published in the hopes of generating store traffic / sales volume.
Circuit City in effect said to all of us: "See what we've got for you starting on July 29th. Please come by and spend some of your dollars on a product that we're offering to you at a special price."
To those who were shut out or made to feel like they were just imagining what the ad stated, I really urge you to report what happened to you to the media, your attorney general / the Better Business Bureau.
I really wish that I were able to tip off the media to what is going on without jeopardizing what I do for CAG, DVDTalk and other sites and readers.
I have already helped to alert the media to another potentional scam being put upon the citizens of Connecticut but I have done so in my regular persona which is not at risk.
My Speedy1961 persona is a different matter as the recent PS3 price drop brought to light. These large corporations potentially could get peeved at what I write / post each week and I avoid being in their sights for long periods of time. What I do for you all is a labor of love and one that I take quite seriously. As such, I must protect this persona if I am able to continue what I do for you each week.
But you folks as consumers should report what is happening out there since those who were shut out were victims of wasted time, effort and money.

i'm in chicago atm...i just went to a CC with a BB next to it...about an hour away from my house...called CC right outside BB and they said they had it in stock...stepped inside BB to PM it but they said they can since CC dont have it in stock...told them i just called...they refused to PM...stepped inside CC and they said theres a mistake on the ad and they wont honor it...spoke with the manager and CC corporate for about an hour and they decided to sell me 1 pack(2 points card $10 each)....so now i'm planning to go to a different BB and price match using my receipt...
question...will that work? PMing using CC receipt at BB??

Your best bet when price matching anywhere is to have an original copy of the ad circular. Having a CC receipt with you when you go to BB only proves that they _had_ the cards in stock at the time, and not necessarily now that you are standing there at BB.
BB PM is certainly sounding like YMMV right now, considering how widely this deal is being discussed... I'm going to give the East Hanover, NJ BB a shot after work today, but am stopping by CC first to pick up the flyer. I already read on XB360Fanboy that the CC down the street has up a sign claiming a misprint and that they're not honoring the ad so I'm not planning on doing anything there other than pick up the flyer.

Well I struck out. Placed an order on Saturday for 4 cards with in store pickup. Drove down there today, and they didn't have any cards. He was going to give me 4 4000 point cards for the same $40, which would of been insane, but when he checked stock on those, they were also out. So he wrote down his information and told me to call him when they come back in stock online (since I live about 20 minutes away) and he will overnight them online for the same price. I also got a $24 gift card since the order wasn't ready.
It could've gone worse, but it could've went a lot better. I noticed the cards don't even show up on their website anymore, so hopefully they get more in stock soon. edit: Actually the link still works it is just searching that doesn't show it.
I also got struck out at Best Buy, they claimed they only matched actual prices and not deals like that. Lame.

I once waited over a half hour and they finally reported back that it wasn't in stock at the competitor's store, so no dice. I don't know how Pyramid Head got around that requirement with all the checking they did on the deal ;)
Believe me, I was just as surprised. Just the fact that the guy was conversing with the manager for so long and the sort of hedging he was giving me made me prepared for defeat, but I guess I'm a real salesman, har har.
Though, I know their policy is that they only PM if it's in-stock at the competitor, and all they had to do was place one call to CC to find out it wasn't, so I wonder what they were spending all that time doing while I was waiting?

Well, I must say that this is why I hate CC and love BB. I called the CC in E. Madison and they said that they were out, so on my lunch break I took a Printed out copy of the page for the CC add to the BB across the street and asked if they price matched. They said of course they do and I then proceeded to pick up 10 cards, 16,000 points, for $105 and some change.
All I have to say is this is the reason I do most of my electronics business with BB as they have always treated me fare and not tried to screw me over like all CC's seem to.
Good luck to anyone trying to get this deal as I'm just happy that it worked out for me.

Funny story about the cards. I went to grab some at my CC, only for them to be sold out. I asked the guy if he had any in the back or what not so he took the tag and did his magic and no luck. So on my way out I grabbed an ad and went accross the street to Best Buy to price match. I went to the register and the lady talked to her manager and her manager said she had to call Circuit City to see if they had any. So here I thought I wasnt going to be SOL. She came back and said they would happily price match that for me. So within 5 minutes Circuit City must have decided they had cards to sell.

Quick update to this. I talked to the same guy again over the phone, and he told me just to place an online order for 2 4000 point cards, and he would adjust the price so that one of the cards is free and I don't need to pay shipping. I just needed to call him back with my order number. Unfortunately by the time I placed the order (stupid CC.com was having issues) he had already left for the day. Agree I was able to get them Sunday at around 11am with no issues.
I asked a question on the CAGcasg a few weeks ago about this Online Sites getting off easy with price "mistakes" unlike B&M. And this is why at least when I worked retail here in the Good old Commonwealth of VA there would have been no question on honoring it. If its in the Ad the store must Honor it until they make it known that there is a Price mistake ie: a Sign will do. And they cant use shady tactics like you have to buy an elite, granted it's been a few Years and things might have changed but I have never had an issue with anything like this locally. I agree someone needs to step up and say something about this obvious Bait and Switch in some cases and just flat refusal to honor there ad in others.

This is getting annoying, I think someone screwed up and now they just realized this is pretty much buy one get one on these point cards. The funny thing is that the flyer shows the 1600MS Point card as part of the deal.

Then it did work. Like I said they have to be in stock for store pickup.
You could try a different zip code if you are willing to drive.
I know, it didn't work for me ;) I could always try to see if there are any in-stock in Road Island but the gas I spend to get there might not make it worth it.
Has anyone tried calling customer support since the discount isn't being taken off on the website if you order two 1600 Point Cards?

I might try again later with a different CSR, because someone mentioned on FW or SD they were able to adjust over the phone. Would save the hassle of dealing with managers, etc. if it works over the phone.

Cleveland OH update:
CC sold out. Went to the Best Buy on Brookpark Rd and successfully PM'd 6 cards, all on the same transaction to boot. She called the manager over and he didn't even think twice. He even mentioned he needed to get some before they were all gone.
They had cards scattered in a few different places. There were maybe 7 cards left after I took mine. Good luck Cleveland CAGs!

Well, if everyone is posting their stories, I might as well do so as well.
Got up early to drive 60 miles to my nearsest CC on Sunday, only to arrive to the 1600 pt cards being sold out. Not to leave w/o anything, I bought (2) 4000 points cards, but havent opened them yet.
Went to a Wal*Mart today only to waste 40 mins and get the run around with them trying to pull reasons outta their A$$ not to give me the price.
Got back home and decided to try Best Buy. I asked if they did PM'ing, and they said they had to be in stock @ the other store. Only to out-smart them, I grabbed the 4000 point card to ahv them check (more likely to be in stock) and it was. LONG story short, I said I grabbed the wrong one and came back with (8) 1600 point cards and since "they" were in stock, I got the price!
TO HELL WITH WAL*MART! I love Best Buy, and always, cheat your way to a victory :)

Best Buy in Dedham, Ma price matched. I have four 1600 Point cards on speical order from CC already so I only got the pair at this Best Buy. At first I thought they were going to say no, the clerk called over one of the CRM to CS Desk and at first she was like "Hold on, I'm going to check online I think this deal is only good if you buy the Elite" I wanted to smash my head in a wall when I heard that. Since I knew first, she can't read, second the website would show the points not being in stock in any store nearby and lastly the 1600 Point Cards didn't have the speical promo on them from the online store.
But I lucked out, they price matched anyways and saved me from flipping out. All in all, once CC calls me up to say my shipment came in I'm getting 9600MS Points for half the price. SCORE!
I wonder if there has been a huge upsurge in DLC content purchases on XBLM. And I wonder, if so, does Microsoft know why? Hopefully they don't think it justifies their current pricing structure as it really reinforces the OPPOSITE - that people are willing to pay about half what they currently charge .

Why would it work on Zune MS Point Cards, the ad clearly states "++++ Save $20 with the purchase of any 2 XBOX LIVE accessories $19.99 & UP"
Zune MS point cards are not Xbox Live accessories.
Even CC's own website shows them under "Movies & Music/Digital Entertainment"

I understand your logic, but CC is shutting down people for trying to purchase something that is clearly listed in the ad. I can only imagine trying to explain to their management (who cannot even properly interpret their very own printed ad) that a zune card is the same thing and to honor that deal. ... but it's really a great deal and I can't help but want to be setup for the 360's entire console life.
Don't wanna hoard, but it feels more like a "save for a rainy day" type thing. You never know when a game you really want becomes available on Marketplace or DLC becomes available.
I guess I shouldn't care, but I'm curious as to why this came about. Could this be a sign that they're planning on cutting Marketplace points by half? Is Circuit City trying to liquidate their stock of these cards?
I got Virtua Tennis 3 and Condemned a couple of weeks ago for $13, and that seemed to be a pretty obvious case of clearing out old games.
What can possible be the explanation for this?
If not a permanent price decrease, maybe they're just getting rid of these cards since they're not selling and you'll have to just use your credit card to purchase future points online.
Just a thought.

Not to poop on people's parades, but I thought CAGS were against hoarding, and yet people on this thread are getting 6+ cards?
Two issues here:
1) These are not in short supply. Yes, most CC's have run out of them, but as I said earlier, most had very few to begin with even before the sale started. However, there are huge numbers of these at Best Buy, Walmart, and other places that may (or may not) price match. If you go to another store and pull of a price match it isn't really hoarding as the whole process is YMMV and the stock is much greater. Plus, we've heard from several people that even CC will be restocking these this week (unlike, say, some hard to find clearance game). AND, many have been able to get their CC's to special order them - that won't happen with any regular hoarded game item!
2) Also unlike some hard to find clearance game, there is a very legitimate use for multiple cards (yes, even more than 6). 6 cards = 12 800 point XBLA games. I could easily see myself buying that many more the rest of this year alone - and what about next year or after that?
This isn't a rare RPG or fighting game that someone really really wants to get but can't because the hoarders got there first. It is simply a deal on a common commodity. I have no problem with people buying as many as they can get as it is hard to pull off anyway, runs for a limited time, and will not cause any shortage of the item in question (over the long term anyway). I have no intention of selling mine, but I was monitoring eBay for kicks. Before the sale there were about 6 cards up total. Now there's tons - so clearly many out there were hoping to make a killing on eBay with these. I think they will be very disappointed as the market is flooded now (and you may find a deal there if you can't get them from stores!).
Most CAGs, anyway, I would hope, are simply using these to get cheaper XBLA games and DLC. I know this opens up many more possibilities for me - I may buy stuff like Mad Tracks and Dig Dug that I wouldn't have bought at regular points pricing...

The only way I'd buy MSPoints off ebay is from a trusted seller whos been around for ages, and the points came in the blister pack.
I went down to the one and only CC in the state just now and of course they were sold out of XBL point cards. However, I was successful in special ordering 4 cards at the advertised promo. It took about 20 minutes or so for the CSR to figure out how to do it, but in the end, it worked out fine (basically 4 cards for $10 each). The only downside is that it will probably take a while before my order comes in (like probably weeks). I'm not in a hurry though.
Hm, maybe I should've bought more...oh wells...

Getting as many cards as you can is justified. I can think of a few XBLA games that are coming out soon or rumored to come out that I want: Marathon, Puzzle Quest, Exit, and Ikaruga. There's also the possibility Rock Band may have about 100 songs to download one year after the game's release (as the developers have said). All of that extra content for games (GTA IV's episodic content for example) and a few movie rentals... Yeah, it would be cool if I could get set for life with points with a sale like this.
Anyways, Best Buy replied to my e-mail (basically the supervisor there made fun of me and laughed at me for trying to buy 8 cards and wouldn't give me a clear answer as to why I can't price match, so I want her ass skewered) saying "We have filed a complaint on your behalf." So basically I shouldn't expect anything to come of this?

WHAT?!?! When was Ikaruga rumored/announced to be coming to XBLA???
On another note, my Circuit City was out of 1600 point cards. They didn't even have a tag for these on the floor, but they had to pegs for the 4000 point cards.
Anyways, went to Customer Service and the guy tried to special order some for me, but the system wouldn't allow him to plus it limited it to 3 cards. Then he checked their warehouse stock in Cali and apparently their warehouse was out and that's why it wouldn't let him special order them. However, he said they usually get shipments of this kind of stuff on Wednesdays and Fridays so to check back then. Plus he said that if I came back and still couldn't get them this week that they'd still do a pricematch next week since they were OOS.
Next, I went to BestBuy and they were out. Yet I know they sometimes have these accessories in different places so I looked around. Found 2 FULL pegs worth of 1600 points cards. Grabbed some for my cousin and I, saw a clearance table, and picked up a Xbox 360 32-game disc holder for $4.99. Continued to customer service, walked up, pulled out my CC ad, and said I wanted to pricematch these. He immediately knew about the deal and called for his supervisor saying something like "We've got more Xbox cards". They overroad the system with no questions asked and corrected the price on my clearanced game holder (it came up as $7.99) and I was in and out in no time. :D
It sucks when I hear about CC or BB employees being jerks or giving people problems. Most of the time I get good/great service whenever I go to BB and sometimes at CC. Good luck to everyone trying to get in on this deal!

Anyone else try to PM at BB but get some bullshit line about how they can't PM bundles?
Technically it's not a "lower advertised price", which is all BB's policy, spelled out in very clear, large text, right next to the customer support counter, states it will price match. I confirmed this with a rep, who obviously had already had enough people come in the store today to attempt this price match.
Here is the text quoted straight from BB's web site:
The Best Buy Price Guarantee does not apply to our or our competitors' free offers, limited-quantity items, open-box items, clearance items, mail-in incentives, financing or bundle offers
I'm guessing they consider this a "bundle offer" since you have to buy two cards to get a price break. It's not like CC is advertising 1600 point cards for $9.99 each. Then BB would most certainly have to price match that.
Sometimes living in a big town is nice, and sometime's its not... I think the folks living out in the rural areas get these deals more often than us city slickers due to the lack of attention of having only one or two people try the deal, as opposed to the hordes around here.

I picked up 4 on a special order @ CC this weekend but today decide that I'd really like a few more... so I decided to see if the local Walmart wanted to get in on the deal.
I waited til after Circuit City closed locally (9pm) then headed out to Walmart (24/7) around 11pm. I figure this way they can't call to check stock and I'm more likely to hit somewhat more agreeable (or at least less concerned) night shift employees. I hit the electronic's department and the employee there said he didn't think they priced matched that but that I would have to ask the Customer Service desk to be sure.
So I headed over to the customer service desk, showed the guy there the ad and my reciept for CC showing that they rang up as 9.98. He takes it over to the manager there who looks it over and then calls for another manager (guessing the store manager) to call her at the extension there. He says '1 minute' and then we stand there for 2 minutes and he doesn't call. She gets tired of wating and goes "Okay, I'll match that." Apathy at it's finest.
I zip back to electronics, grab 8 cards and head back up front. They rang up and activated all 8 of them @ 9.97 a piece. :bouncy:
Now my only question is should I load all these onto my Live account right now? Or keep them in card form until I want to use the points.
Anyone know of these cards expire?

Are there 2 different kinds of marketplace point cards? I've never seen the one where they actually have to activate the points on the card?
Ya there are 2 different kinds... Ones that are sealed in a Plastic Container (Best Buy / Target / CC) and the ones that you have to activate at the register (FastCard activation) [Walmart]

A lot of you have valid points about stocking up on the cards. I'm not complaining about the fact that I can't find them (I found 8 at BB and CC said they'd be restocking sometime this week). It's just that IDK, moderation maybe? Anyways, if people are actually going to use the cards instead of sell them for $15/piece I'm fine with that. I think I'm just having trouble imagining people who actually need 9600 points. But I digress. Hopefully I can find some this week.

Shivering Isles alone is 2400 pts. There are lots of things to spend it on, now and in the future. The real problem is if your console dies and you have to deal with the DRM issues....

i haven't bought any cards yet, but i'd definitely use points for movie and tv rentals besides all the games and extras i want. just saying, i could easily use 9600 points in the next 3-6 months.

Had success at the Mira Mesa Best Buy for 6 cards.
Seems like I was the first one to try it out (on that day, at least) and was getting worried I was going to be SOL when it took them 10 minutes to get verification.
As of right now, I'm planning to sell at least 2 of the cards for payment via PayPal, any CAGs that are interested, please PM me a price and I'll respond to the best offer.

There are already alot of good XBLA games out and a lot of decent DLC for existing games. MS is all about DLC for current and future games so you know the amout available will continue to increase. GTAIV, Rock Band and GHII will all have some DLC. I'm sure Halo will have some as well. Plus all the movie/TV downloads available too. The XBLA releases will keep coming too, 1 or 2 a week.
I guess I'm saying that I purchased up a bunch of cards and along with picking up some things I wanted but didn't want to pay full price for in the past. Will I use all of them in the next 6 months? Not sure, but I will use some of them and I will use them all eventually, I didn't get them to put on ebay. Plus I wanted to make sure I'm covered for some future purchases. It is a B1G1 deal and that doesn't happen often for points. In fact, based on the disaster that CC is having I'm not sure any other retailers would want to touch this type of promotion with a 10-ft pole.

I was able to pricematch today at BB for 4 cards. They had to call and verify that that was the deal. They originally told me that the deal was: Buy an Elite and get the 2 accessories for $20.00 off. Then they called CC and said that I was right :D .

07-31-2007, 03:25 PM
Anyone else have any success at their local Wal-Mart using a CC receipt to PM? Mine wouldn't take the CC ad due to their "gimmick ad" policy, but I wonder if they would take a receipt...or a copy of a scanned receipt...hmm.....;)

Sorry to hear about the gift card woes. This has actually been one of the better CC customer service experiences I've had. This morning the webiste show that the cards were in stock at my local CC. This perplexed me since Sunday I had a nice talk with the "Operations Manager" (whom looked like Pete from Pete & Pete... his hair matched his shirt) about all the wonderful reasons on why they had none and would probably not get any this week. So I decide to gamble on ordered 2 with the intention of negotiating a Price Adjustment upon picking them up from the store. The following is a paraphase of what took place once I arrived at the store during lunch;
..after waiting the requisite time for the two CSRs to discuss their social life:
CSR girl: "Hi."
me: "Hi, I'm here to pick up some merchandise." I hand her the print out.
CSR girl: "Oh, I know they were looking for this earlier and I could not find any... I'll have some one check.." the other CSR guy runs off.
CSR girl: "We didn't have a picture of it so we didn't know what to look for."
me: "...didn't have a picture." I'm confused, the girl types on the computer.
CSR girl: "Here it is... 1600 card right?"
me: "Yeah."
CSR girl: "Its on sale in the store right now.... $17.99... its cheaper in the store."
me: "O RLY?" Now I'm thinking crap... this ain't going well.
CSR girl: "Hold on." She runs off toward the guy and I see movement by the Xbox display. It looks the same as Sunday. She stays gone for a while.
Random grumpy guy with a bunch of computer stuff: "She go off to dinner??"
me: "Uh, maybe."
CSR girl returns: "We coudn't find any... You wanna cancel your order or wait until later?"
me: "Do I get the gift card since ya don't have it."
CSR girl: "Ya, sure" She hands me the card and my printouts. "We have a truck coming in a little bit you may want to call back later and see if we got any in."
I'm happy so far, but it still seems kind of back-handed the way a lot of stores are handling this "sale". I figure if they do get some in, they'll hold a couple for my order and then I'll go back for round 3.

Went to CC today at lunch, as soon as I went into the videogame section an employee told me if i was looking for the points cards to go to the front, they can special order them and I'll still get the discount.
Got 4 of them on the way. Guess I can buy Bomberman and Pac Man CE with my current points now.
Most of these points will be going to Rock Band DLC. I wonder if I should get a couple more.

Don't feel bad, the BBs here on Oahu are very strict about PMs. Every CS or cashier I've taken a PM to has followed the promo and inventory verification procedures to the letter. It's annoying, but it doesn't always hinder me getting a PM. This particular deal I know for sure they would've given me the run around on, so I didn't even bother. Thank goodness I could special order @ CC instead.

Both CC's I went to this afternoon were out of the 1600 point cards, as well. However, one didn't have Picross or Strikers in stock after 2pm, so I walked with a free $40 gift card.
In the KC metro, Oak Park Mall's new CC didn't have stock. The Metcalf and 119th location had plenty of stock sitting behind the service desk so people who asked for the games could be shown them instantly.

Checked one local CC. SMS was on the shelf behind the counter and they finally found Picross in a drawer in the game section. So no GC for me. I'm assuming if the one has them in stock, the other CC 4-5 miles away probably has them as well.
I think I'll just call next time and take my chances with the honesty/willingness-to-check of the person on the other end of the phone. Cheaper than burning gas.
EDIT: ^ Wait...one CC had them in stock but the other didn't? Crap, guess I will check the other location then...
Just a quick note NOT about points cards... I don't know if this has been mentioned yet, or if it was a YMMV thing, but I just got back from CC and my Strikers rang up $44.99.

No mas at the Independence CC in Virginia Beach. Tried to special order the 1600 cards, but the douche couldn't because they are not listed on the website anymore. He told me they won't be getting anymore in because they are off the website. I told him it was probably a glitch or something and he kept to the issue of it not being on the website. Then I looked for Mario Strikers and it was in the back, then had the dude helping me go back to look for Picross, but left without him knowing what happened. Aww. I just went to CC and they had both, BUT! Strikers is 44.99!!! I know its not as good as $20 off, but you DO get a discount getting it at CC. At first I was sad they had both, but when I looked at my reciept, I was happy knowing it was 47 including tax.

Did this happen to anybody else? I was told by my closest Circuit City that they were unable to special order anything but higher end stuff like cameras. So there's no way I can get the 1600 point cards through special ordering. But it seems like everybody else isn't having a problem with it. Bizarre.
This was specifically at the Darien, IL CC. I'm thinking I might head to Walmart after CC closes and give that a shot. This sale is frustrating.

I had it happen without issue at one here. I think it depends on the person working the CS desk, most of the time, and I asked up-front before I ran off to get the cards.
The one rep OK'd it, the second rep who did the transaction made a huge deal about getting the actual ad, and was a little miffed when he could only get a copy of the ad.
In NYC you did this?

i just went today, and guess what....okay, here's how it went, i strolled onto the xbox 360 live accessories section at CC, and there it was, a boldy printed apology to customers stating: A MISPRINT on their circular and said that the website had mistaken/forgotten/or didn't care for this offer. what they forget to include with the $20 off offer was that you had to purchase an x360 elite system in order to get that offer. what kind of bs is that?! no way man! FORGOT to include that it was mandatory to purchase an elite system?!! i asked a CCemployee and asked him if it was true and he said "Yup..." C'mon, ithink it's just this location, i'm going to a different one tomorrow and see if this is true. i even showed the circular to the dude and he too said that was a misprint. I was just at the Naperville, IL circuit city and bought 2 1600 and they adjusted the price to 9.99 each. So if circuit citys are trying to give an excuse that you must purchase an elite it must only be at select stores.

It can't possibly be a misprint because they have the deal online without the system. (Alas, the 1600 point cards don't work with it, but other things do...)
What they should have done is say 29.99 and up, and all this crap wouldn't have happened. Or just simply exclude the 1600 packs... but they didn't.
So fuck em in the goat ass.

I would've done it at two BB's tonight, had the first store had any cards. The ops supervisor told me that someone stole all of them. :-s That they also had 7-10 arrests from theft in the last month. :-s :-s
I told him about the FastCard ones that Walmart has and that they have to be activated at the register. He thought that was a good idea. :D
There's two more along my work to home route that I think I'll try and hit up in the next couple of days.

fuck in CC screws me when I'm not even there on this one. The CS at BB thought I had to buy the Elite to get this deal so she calls a CC and they tell her it's a web only deal!!!! Then she brings up the webpage and finds the card through the web ad and of course it's out of stock online. I pointed out that the flier said nothing about web only and the website had nothing posted about a web only deal, and I've been to CCs with stands showing that part of the ad. I said "If it's a web only deal, how come it's not on there?" No go. Thanks random idiot at CC!!!

i tried my luck at a BB w/o luck. Wrnt to a few other stores, no dice.
I went to a circuit city and i bought 4... woo hoo! They put them on "special order" with no problem, and said I can pick them up when they come in.
I then went to ANOTHER circuit city and they said the promotion was not in the system and they were not allowed to order. I told them a friend (AKA me, at a store 8 min away) had gotton some earlier but no budge after talking to a few people.
So then I went back to the first CC store and I hit the motherload, lol. Came back aabout an hour later (another 2 people were getting in on the same deal in front of me) and said a bunch of my friends wanted some cards, and after sweet-talkin' them I got the to give me 16 of them total :-)
The girl next to him said they should probably only give like 2 or 4 away at most for that price, but then the guy was like "well how do I know if he left and came back, i'd still have to give it to him" -- etc. -- so he was fighting on my side. They limit 8 items to special order at a time, so he rung up two separate orders for me, with ALL the cards at the $9.99 price instead of $19.99.
You never find these discounted ANYWHERE.
So... if you have a circuit city nearby, give it a try... but if you have to drive-a-ways I wouldn't hold your breath... doesn't hurt to try.
I don't know WHEN i will get them (they said they had a lot of orders so it might take UP TO a month) but for aprox $160 why not, right...
... I'll prolly keep them all and spend them all on rock band downloadable content upgrades when it comes out, i cant frickin wait... though I already have 8000 points on my account regardless [havnt bought my load of xbox live games yet... should have my console next week BTW]
1/2 price games on XBLA, damn. I mean, bomberman for $5? *drool* -- I can see myself getting a TON of other games for 1/2 price, and i'm glad they have a demo channel unlike wii.
If you can't get the mother of all deals, they still offer the 4000 point cards, headsets, etc. and you can still get $20 off the higher priced items w/o a problem most likely.
If I have extras I might offer them up on ebay but i'll probably save them for ROCK BAND DLC... they are going to have full albums! :-D

I'm giving special order a shot at my Circuit City since I will be in the area tomorrow. My store is normally quietly and empty, but I wonder if they even know about special orders. I would assume Circuit City has caught on by now (doesn't seem like a good idea to be selling a $20 item for basically $10 each...).

I'm going to try a couple of other CC's tomorrow. If I can't find any on the shelves or get them special ordered, I'm going to send off a nice letter to corporate. I'll offer my services as a consultant as to why they are getting their ass handed to them by BB ;)

hmmm, I wonder.....
This points thing is easily one of the "worst" deals ever at circuit city and ought to win a prize at the end of the year for this debacle.
No I understand its a good deal in terms of money... these cards are not usually discounted... but there's been 3 deals in the past 8 months:
Best Buy - get a 1600 pts card and xbox live 12 month card and get pts free (while CC had 12 month live for $40 making it sweeter)
CC- Buy GH2, get 1600pts free (done two seperate occasions).
(havent seen other deals)
So this is a good deal. But it's a shitty deal when circuit city DOESNT STOCK THE DAMNED CARDS IN THE FIRST PLACE AND IS SOLD OUT EVERYWHERE.
Then when you luck out and find a store that has it, you have a cashier saying "it's on sale at $19.99, the $20 off is reflected in that price" and I said "no, the 4000 pt card is $50 and these cards are normally $20" Or you get a cashier who rings it up at 18 bucks. Or they say it's only if you buy an elite. Or instead of taking 20 off, they just charge you 9.99 per card (costing you something like 25 cents in sales tax, heh)
Sorry I'm just aggravated.

I got somewhat lucky and found 1 1600 point card at CC today. I figured it be the only one I see this week, so got a 4000 point card to get the package deal. Better than nothing. Of course the 1600 point cards do not ring up properly as part of the deal like advertised, so I have to point out to the cashier that huge sign they had in-store with both items pictured.
Also, how are you people getting more than one free gift card at CC? Whenever I do the deal, they type my driver's license number into the computer and the gift card receipt they give me back has my name on it. I assumed this was to keep one person from getting more than one free card at different stores.

I ran out to a CC that said they had them in stock yesterday. However, by the time they opened, they were out of stock, meaning someone placed an in-store pickup during my commute time. I would have done it, but I didn't want to tie up ~$40 by paying full price and then getting it adjusted and credited back. They also couldn't do a special-order, as they had just changed their system over and it wasn't compatible with the warehouse yet.
I ran across the street to pick up 300, and on a whim, grabbed 4 1600 points cards to try a PM with at a cashier. I had tried earlier this week at a different BB at the customer service counter and no go. Anyways, I get up to the counter and she said she's been doing these all week and adjusts the price without a hitch.
When I got home, I gave a friend who hadn't been able to find any points a call, and we both went down there and got 4 more cards a piece. Later that night, he decided he wanted to make another run for more points, but we were told that their GM told them not to honor the deal anymore.
I've been quite lucky in this so far, and I don't plan on selling any of my points. There's definitely XBLA games and with Rock Band and GH3 DLC, I'll probably end up needing more points in the future.

Chicago area update.
I went to the Addison/Itasca Best Buy and they only had 3 1600 point cards, so I took two up to the register. The girl knew exactly what I was doing, and called the manager over right away to enter her password to pricematch. I was out the door with no questions asked in under 5 mins.
I then went to the Bloomingdale Circuit City - no pegs for 1600 cards, and a sign saying something about needing to buy an Elite to use the discount in the ad. It never said anything about a misprint, which I thought was VERY strange.
So, I went to the Best Buy further down the strip mall. They had a bunch of cards, so I took 6 to the register. The kid was going to do it, but another nosy cashier girl stepped over and told him the store manager said they couldn't pricematch it. The manager had called CC and they told him that they didn't have any in-stock AND that the ad was a misprint. Not that it mattered, but I told them it wasn't exactly true, but that it wasn't BB's problem - it's CC's.
Back to the Addison BB in a few days, as well as back to the Schaumburg CC to check again today.

I was able to special order four 1600 point cards for $40 + tax at a CC in Roseville, MN (near Minneapolis). Here's my experience with the deal:
I called CC around noon to see if they had any 1600 pt cards in stock. The guy on the phone said "No, they're sold out" without even checking the shelf. I asked if they would be able to special order them and he said "No, we don't do rainchecks or anything like that." Because so many people had luck special ordering them, I asked again "You can't even special order them?" Him - "Nope."
Bummer. Since there was a BB close to the CC, I thought I'd call BB Customer Service and see if they would do the PM. I asked if they would pricematch a deal in Circuit City's ad, and without even asking which deal they said "Yes, we will, if the item is in stock." Hmm.. seemed like it would be luck of the draw, to see who would check stock with CC and who wouldn't.
So after work I head over to CC, if nothing else, to get the ad to do a PM at BB. I grab a copy of the ad and head in, going straight to the game section. The girl there asks me if I need help finding anything. I said "Yeah, I'm looking for the 1600 pt Xbox live cards." She tells me she thought they were out of some, and sure enough, a few 4000's but no 1600's.
I asked if I could special order two of them and she said "Yeah, of course." She takes me up to the register. A few feet away is the poster detailing the deal, with the 1600 point card prominently displayed and priced at $19.99.
She types the numbers in for the special order. The first card rings up at $17.99 and the second card at $19.99, and no $20 back. She notices that it didn't ring the deal up correctly. "Hmm, that's weird" she says, and we both look over the ad and poster, confirming that yes, the cards qualify for the deal.
She calls up to her manager on an in-store phone, he agrees to discount each card to $9.99 and makes the changes. While she's talking to him though, I realize that if I can get the deal, I should get 4 cards instead of two. After she hangs up I tell her I changed my mind and want 4 1600 pt cards instead of 2. "No problem" she says, calls her manager again, he takes a minute or two to make the changes, and its good.
The girl tells me that it looks like two cards should be in Wednesday, and then the other 2 might come in Friday. I pay, thank her, and walk out of the store smiling from receiving $40 worth of Live points for free. The whole process took maybe 15 minutes.
It was a great customer service experience, so its really a shame that so many gamers are getting turned away by CC. The whole process for me was pretty painless and the girl didn't make me feel like I was trying to be a thief or anything, which rocks.

The best buy gave me the "bundle" line... i would have gotton them, but then another cashier came over as she was looking at the ad and was like NO! earlier someone tried to do that but we arn't supposed to, just as the poster above. nosey employeess. oh well.
I forgot to mention that at CIRCUIT CITY #2 I went to, the same thing happened with the $17.99... she was able to special order them, but couldn't get the $20 discount, only the 10% was in the computer. Needs to be a manager / someone else who is able to change the price to 9.99, and i was told "they wern't supposed to do that". Even after calling the manager etc. they didn't budge, even though the ad clearly states it. whatever.
They were like... hmmm if you can show me your friends receipt i might be able to figure it ouit, but i don't believe you. I wanted to pull the receipts from the other store out of my pocket, but then i'd have to make up a story about it being an imaginary friend that i had to buy the points for ;)
Hence why i went back to store 1, where they didn't care

Westbury - OOS last night, but got a rain check good for 30 days. This is actually nothing more than a scribbled signature in the flyer, but Westbury has been good to me before on things like this.
Hicksville - OOS last night and today, no more shipments and I "might" be able to Special order, they don't know.
Commack - OOS - Trucks on Tuesday and Thursday.
Massapequa - OOS
F this, i'll try PM at Walmart....

This is an update for some Southeast gamers out there. My local BB in Charleston, SC restocked and I was able to PM 4 cards without any issues. They were very friendly and fast, no questions asked. It's amazing how smoothly things can go when an employee actually knows math.
Also got to give a :applause: to Speedy for his weekly updates.
Good luck to all the other CAGs out there trying to get in on this. See you on Bomberman and Puzzle Fighter.

I managed to find 2 1600 pt cards on the shelf at CC, but the store wouldn't sell them to me as "someone had already bought them with in store pickup." So the girl says she can order me 2, which she does, and then said that someone came in earlier that day and ordered 12 cards. Crazy.

I got lucky earlier this morning...picked up a 12 month live card and a 1600 point card for $45. Apparently, video games and accessories were all ringing up 10% off, so I got the deal plus an additional $5 off. Too bad they didn't have any more cards...

My special order pair arrived in the mail today. Not too shabby for ordering them on Sunday.

Shrike, you should be hitting Vegas with that luck.Would've been four of out of four, if the first BB I went to yesterday had any cards.
I'm going to run by another one tonight and see if I can make it 4(5) out of 4(5). :D

man, now CC's site won't even report if stores have them in stock anymore. They're trying to block this hard.
It's worse than that - 1600-point cards are no longer on CC's web site PERIOD. You can still get 4000-point cards, though.

They are still on there. Theres a link on the top of page 41 that takes you to the 1600 page.

Page 41? When I ask the site to show me every single Xbox 360 product CC carries, I'm only getting 17 pages. A direct link to the 1600 page (or to the page that has the link to the 1600 page) would be great.

Also, try using this code that porieux posted to see if your store has them available in-store:
http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showpost.php?p=3182068&postcount=801
Plus, my original link seems to still work:
http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=138280&linkid=j13774608k31063&affiliateid=k31063&mid=
The code from porieux's post is a better option to show if it's in-stock or not.

Called my CC and the manager knew exactly what I was talking about. He told me they are getting a truck tomorrow before they open, so hopefully they'll be on that.

Hopefully, they won't get mobbed and killed by mad CAGs. :D Especially if someone sneaks in an in-store pickup order in advance of the store opening.
Also makes me wonder if they'll limit quantities. :D

I tried price matching at the Bailey's Crossroads Best Buy but they also wouldn't let me price match like the Tyson's store. Tried to special order at two CCs, one couldn't do it since they couldn't find the price tag and the other wouldn't let me get the sale price for some stupid reason.

I'm right behind you Gen. Here in Springfield, VA, CC wouldn't let me order. Looks like they got some cards in today, but not of the 1600 (or they kept them in back). Went to BB right after to try to PM, and they gave me the "we don't PM package deals" speech. At least I had $45 in GC from BB, so I didn't have to pay anything out of pocket. Wish I could've gotten it to work though.

I got four special ordered on Monday. I'll keep using the online links in the hopes that I'll have an opportunity to get a couple in store before this deal ends.

Well, I had what is probably the best Best Buy experience I've ever had. It's a store I've rarely been to too, I just moved close to it last month. Anyway, the manager was at the service desk and she had no problem matching four for me. She scanned one and said "it's the same price" and I pointed out the $20 off two part and she got it. She had to call another manager over (they can't override themselves) and he hadn't seen it either but had no problem doing it and had her attach the CC ad to the sheet she filled out. I also signed up or RewardZone because she asked me and I hadn't realized it was free until then (I thought it used to have a cost). Anyway, now I'm set on points for quite a while.
That experience definitely returned BB a lot of goodwill from me, that store particularly. Now I wonder if the store by work just sucks, since that was the only one I had tried to get deals at before.

Ouch, almost had a close call myself at my local BB. They said they would only PM if they had it in stock. I was afraid they were gonna call them and I told them they had it in stock at CC, but I'd rather buy it here because of the reward zone points. And they took it :)
It actually was in-stock at CC, but that CC wouldnt even match their own ad, they said it wasnt an accessory even after i pointed out the fact that it's on their website (I had the print-out and "Xbox Live Accessories" highlighted.

Man, I just had an awesome experience at Best Buy (the first time ever?). I called up to see if they had any in stock and I mentioned the CC ad. They told me they were well aware of the special, they have plenty and that they would price match. Rushed over there, picked up 6 cards and some other misc stuff I needed.
I ask a woman working if I need to go to customer service or the line to pricematch, she points me over to customer service. The customer service woman says sorry CC is out of stock and they are back ordered, I had to turn away someone yesterday. The other woman says no don't worry about it, She said "I told him it's fine" we know they are out of stock! Go ahead and take 10 off each card.
So to that woman much <3<3. Pac-Man, Castlevania, Bombmerman, Lumines, here I come.

That's what I told them as well. No luck, though I think I'll stop there tomorrow if different people are working there, or during the day Friday when I have the day off.

I called my CC to see if they had the stock in for my in store pick up. After being transferred a bunch of times between moronic employees, I finally reach what I think is a manager who looks it up my order and says it's in stock. So I drive down to CC for a second time and it seems they are still out of stock and they only have half my order(1 card rather than 2) just like last time I was there! Another trip wasted. The employees are all clueless high school scene kids it seems. I couldn't even get the girl to give me the $24 giftcard since I've been there twice and my order is still not ready.
I'm really frustated with CC and its employees. I don't know if I plan on going back there again..I don't know if it means the same thing to everyone, but I value my time and the gas that I have to burn.
