UPDATES on CC $20 off XBL Accessories Deal

On sold out cards...
I showed up about an hour after open and ALL the points were gone. I got to talking with the sales guy, and a guy came in about 5 minutes after open and bought everything they had (can you say "hoarder").
Anyway, after talking for a bit he said they could order more for me, and they'd come in either tomorrow or the next day, I just had to put $4 down on it.
So all you unlucky CAGs, if you didn't score the points, go back and they should be able to order you as many as you want.

Some CAGs are reporting 1600 point cards ringing up at $17.99...
The reason they are coming up at $17.99 is because somebody screwed up and instead of having the $20 off deal in the computers on the 1600 points card, there is a 10% off any type of Xbox 360 Live accessory sale that automatically rings up in the system. It's bizarre, but whoever is in charge of putting these updates into their computers is terrible.

I got everything adjusted correctly pretty easily so that I got the proper deal though.

A bit disappointed CC isn't doing loss leader sales on new releases that week, but they make up for it with 2 for 1 points cards!

Another quickie question, is there a limit on how many items per visit you can buy with the $20 off XBL accessories promo (I assume there is, but have to ask). i.e. can I buy 4 1600 points cards for $40?

Holy crap - I just looked through the list of Xbox Live Arcade games I'd want to get when I finally snag a 360 (which I'm assuming I'll do within a month or so...just waiting to see how that price drop rumor pans out), and I'm bewildered. Gonna have to grab at least 4 cards, and that'll just get rid of my "must have" wants from Live...and that's without looking at DLC or fun little things like Bejeweled I might wanna grab just for the heck of it.

Lemmie ask real fast - what games on Live should I just try to get on the Unplugged discs and other methods. Don't various accessories come bundled with games anyway? Any I should specifically look out for?

(EDIT: also, how long until points expire? If I pick em up during this deal, and don't use em (put em on an account I guess I mean) until...say mid September, will I be fine?)

O_o
07-19-2007, 10:31 PM
I don't think they expire. And the only things that come with XBL games (other than Unplugged) are the headset and camera combo box things

gunm

As a rule, they don't PM promo deals (ie B1G1, $20 off two or more, buy this, get that free, etc), just the actual prices themselves.

(EDIT: also, how long until points expire? If I pick em up during this deal, and don't use em (put em on an account I guess I mean) until...say mid September, will I be fine?)

Freebies that go around:
(1) Joust
(2) Contra (given away during the Old Spice Contest, a little harder to come by)
(3) Frogger (Arcade Controller amongst other places)
(4) Uno (Camera/Camera Bundle)
(5) Robotron 2084 (Camera/Camera Bundle/Assorted other places)
(6) Astropop (Xbox Live Arcade Retro Stick)
(7) Timepilot (Xbox Live Arcade Retro Stick)

Only *1* volume of Unplugged and it doesn't appear others are coming, sadly (at least not any time soon). On the first disc is: Outpost Kaloki X, Wik: Fable of Souls, Hardwood Backgammon, Bejeweled 2 Deluxe (that should solve your desire for Bejeweled), Geometry Wars Evolved, and Texas Hold'em. There are other demos on the game, but they're just that--- demos.

Of the games you can pick up with codes, Uno is probably the best.

Points do not expire. That is, unless M$ expires. ;-)

In regards to the XBox Price Drop Rumors: Didn't M$ come out and say very clearly "We are not dropping in price?" If there were even ideas that they might, Sony's non-existant drop makes sure they won't.

To those who doubt Speedy: Seriously, in the 2+ years he's been doing this (at least), he's never been wrong on an add. There have been YMMV issues with stores and managers, but those warning of doom and gloom miss the true awesomeness of Speedy (then again, the "amazing deal" is why this thread is at 3+ pages already when it normally is barely past 1 1/2)

Speedy, the buy 2 get $20 off on XBL accessories is advertised as a reduction taken right at the register when you check out, correct? This would stink if it ended up being a CC rebate where you have to wait for 8-10 weeks to get the $20.

Thanks again for all the work!

For those assuming this means no 360 price drop on August 1, remember this ad comes out BEFORE August 1-- they couldn't (and wouldn't) advertise a half-week price drop.

You wouldn't see a price dropped unit until the August 5th ads (unless they did a Thursday ad or something which they do sometimes).

I'd really like to pick up a couple points cards at BB (CC is a bit of a drive, x2 for the price match) but I don't know if they'd give me any trouble price matching given how it's worded...

Thanks again for all the work!It won't be a rebate, it'll be done at the register.

If it's like the past promotions they've had, they'll ring up the first accessory, which gets entered in normally. When they ring up the second accessory, the register should recognize that they're two XBL accessories and offer the $20 off across both accessories, which will knock $10 off each one. This was how it behaved for the Buy 2 Wii games, save $20 promotion, as well as previous promotions.

Assuming they set everything up correctly, it should be painless and automatic. If they didn't, expect a mess on both PMing after the fact as well as buying it during the promotional period.

Great, I'll definitely have to pick some points up then.

As for price matching, how long does CC price match for? Also is it pretty seamless when you go in to match price or do they tend to act clueless and screw around with you instead of just giving you your money back? I have never tried it before. Thanks!

The best part of this - XBL point cards are showing up as items that can be done for in-store pickup. :D Buy them on the website, then go in to pick them up at the store. Excellent. :D

Thanks! They should match their own prices at 100% of the difference for 30 days after you make your purchase. You could go pick up the cards today and then go in on Sunday the 29th to do the PM, if you wanted. It'll be a little more work for them to do on a PM, because this will (in theory) be so easy while the sale is going on. Getting the cards now makes sure you have them in-hand for the sale.

How long do they hold items for pickup? The ideal solution would be to order in advance, but not go to pick them up until the day the sale starts and do the PM in one swoop... I know BB holds for 8 days, but don't have experience with CC's in-store pickup at all...

Damn, I was hoping CC would do a $10 off on Strikers on release like they did with BBA and some other titles. I will be trolling for that $20 GC however... So now I need to figure out the most cost effective way to get Strikers at release.

Also, for $15, if you don't already have Lego Star Wars II, I highly recommend it.

No rebate requirement noted on Page #22 where this deal lies.

I'm interpreting the language just as Circuit City laid it out in the ad:

"Save $20 with the purchase of any 2 XBOX Live accessories $19.99 & Up".

That statement is above the XBOX 360 Live 1 Year Card, the XBOX Live 1600 Points card and the Wired Headset for XBOX 360.

To me (Joe Consumer) upon reading that I think: "Hmmmmm..... I can buy any two of those products or in combination and get $20 off the total price. Please Mr. Circuit City employee, I'll take two of the 1600 points card for $39.98 - $20 = $19.98 + tax. Thank you.":D

I'm in total agreement with everyone here at CAG which is why I marked the deal with ++++ and put in the CC statement.

If you are thinking about getting a 360, you should pick up at least a couple cards. There are plenty of great games on XBLA... Pacman: CE, Bomberman Live, Geometry Warts, and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. To me, those are 4 "must download" games and with the 2 points cards for $20... that's all 4 of them for $20. Great deal. And then there are more games that I'm kinda iffy about, because they're $10 each, but at $5 I would download them in a heartbeat.

question:

I'm still unclear on how price matching at circuit city is going to work if I buy them now. If I buy them now and walk back in on sunday will they actually honor the 50% drop or do they have the option not to since it is a promotional multi-purchase deal and not a straight price drop?

Likewise if i buy online for store pickup and wait for Sunday to grab them will my CCard be charged in store for the now discounted amount?

Is there any experience regarding how Circuit City has handled multipurchase pricematching situations in the past?

I worked there for a year and a half. All you do, is go purchase them today, or as soon as you can. If you are getting 2, get the 2, getting 4, get the 4, and so on. The CC that I worked at always got their truck on Wednesday/Saturday which usually held all the stuff for the ad for Sunday, so if you get there and they don't have all the cards you are looking for, don't get discouraged, just wait a few days until the trucks arrive and they should have a lot.

Worse case scenario, if you get there and the cards are not available (after the sale has started) then you can go up to an associate and have them special order the products for you. You'll get them at the discounted price and you just pick them up whenever they arrive.

Now, after you have bought them (if before the sale), you just go back when the sale has started, go up to Customer Service, and say, "Hi, I just bought these last week & now I looked in the ad and I realize that I can save 20 dollars if I purchase two x-box live items over $19.99, so I would like to get this matched, please."

They can't give you a hard time about it, it's part of their policy to match competitor's (and their own) prices. Although, I do feel like they won't be sending a lot of the points cards in preparation that people will be doing this, thinking people won't bother trying to special order them for the deal either.

On a side note, I really hope Strikers is $39.99 somewhere, or some special deal comes up because I'd love to get it at a discounted price.

Thanks for the ad's, speedy, I didn't think they would be made available so soon! Here's hoping Best Buy has Strikers for less or for a deal.

Is $19.99 not MSRP? I was guessing that this would be one of Nintendo's reduced price titles (Brain Age, etc.) I'm still planning on picking it up at $19.99 even if it is MSRP.

As for other questions/comments on XBLA, I think I play more of those games than I do retail games:

Bomberman Live! (EXCELLENT verison of Bomberman with 8 player online)
Worms
Uno
Band of Bugs
Geometry Wars
Texas Hold 'Em
A whole bunch of others I can't think of now.

Damn, just saw this today (after Shrike posted about it in the XBLA thread). Somehow I always miss these threads on the regular Deals page.

I always use trade-in credit to buy my points cards, so they run me less than half price usually. But if I can save that credit for other things and buy these straight up for half price that is great. I just wish I hadn't bought a play-n-charge kit a few weeks back at Gamecrazy (no returns there).

I still have a boatload of points from the Smartchild thing but I'll stock up on a few more. Then I won't feel so bad buying DLC for things like Beautiful Katamari later... And maybe I'll splurge on Mad Tracks and things like that in the mean time.

I'm not sure if buying now and price matching will work with this kind of deal, unless you get lucky. At least that's how it sounds from their site (http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/lookLearn.do?cat=-13317&edOid=105469&c=1#Guarantee):

Our policy applies only to advertised prices. It does not apply to special offers or promotions, including rebates, free-with-purchase offers, and special financing

Maybe the in-store pickup is a better option, since presumably you pay when you pick up, and the sale will be on, though it would be nice to confirm this will work.

One thing is for sure, I don't see the points cards lasting too long on Sunday...

Also, does Circuit City not charge your card until you pick them up or what? I've had 4 cards on order since Saturday or so, and I don't know if they pulled the money from my card or not.

Circuit City charges your card when you order. I placed 2 orders last Friday to "reserve" some cards for Sunday. After I checked my account and saw that I had already been charged, I decided to cancel the order and wait.

I've done my two in-store pickup orders for the cards I wanted to get, and will deal with it on Sunday.

How long does CC keep items on hand for in store pickup? What if you get there and they dont have any to hand out even if you ordered in store pickup? Do they compensate you? I wonder if i should just buy 4 cards today at another store and return them on sunday and rebuy since my store does not have any!

Does anyone know how Circuit City's register systems work? If I buy 10 points cards at $19.99 (5 paid, 5 free) a piece, would I be able to apply a $40 off $199 coupon before the $20 off each pair of points card comes off.

And is there a limit to the amount of accessories. Also is there a limit per purchase?

Edit: Reworded so it makes sense, lol!

1. I don't think they'll allow a promo coupon to be applied to a promo transaction. At best they would allow either 1 deal or the other but not one that would eliminate almost all profit from the deal.

2. No limit noted in the ad. If these stores are descended upon en masse they may post quantity limits signs.

3. No purchase limits noted either.

Didn't Speedy say that the 1600 points cards are pictured in the $20 off deal?

I was going to suggest what Shrike said - even if they won't adjust, they will most likely do a return/repurchase. I'm driving near a CC this afternoon on the way to picking up my daughter from a camp. I'm planning on buying 6 cards then. Then I'll return early Sunday and try to adjust. If, for some reason, it fails, I'll see if there are any more to buy on the spot. Then I can always just return the originals.

Of course, the ease of pulling this all off depends on whether they get the computer programmed with the deal. If it is like the 25% off clearance games mess a few weeks back there might be a lot of unhappy CAG's come Sunday. (For those who don't know, the 25% off didn't work automatically until Thursday or so - people had to get manual adjustments before that and it was a pain given that many CC employees seemed to think the $16.96 pricing WAS 25% off the original $49.99 ;)).

He did indeed. I'll have the ad in-hand on Saturday, so I'll know for my own satisfaction. :D

They should do a PM, as it's their own pricing on their own deal. I figured that it would be easier to have CC do their own pricing against the deal instead of BB or other vendors that might say "it's a with purchase deal, go fuck off". As the cards are pictured in the ad, it should be easier to get them PM'd with either CC or anywhere else. I'm making sure I have them from CC, so it'll be a return-and-rebuy if they don't do the PM correctly.

It's in their ad, it should be easy. If not, then ask for the MOD and explain the situation to them. Worked with the B2G1 sale from TRU a month ago, the end-line reps didn't want to do anything with it, and the MOD approved it.

Oh to Master Shake and ANY that read this post, please note the following:

I'm working on the Circuit City ad for 8/5 - 8/11.

Circuit City is starting a Gamers Saving Club which will save any member 10% off all video games, PC games, video game accessories & more.

It costs $19.99 for an annual membership.

BUT...........

You can get a FREE 1 Year membership with the purchase of any game console (Master Shake I'm thinking of YOU) or any hand held game system

Just another way to save CAG's another 10%.

The fine print reveals that the Free Membership Offer cannot be combined with any other offer (like the MS 1600 Points one starting Sunday).

Free Membership With Purchase Offer good from 7/29/07 - 10/15/07.

Well, I'm certainly hoping restocks of the 1600 points cards happen soon. I went in this afternoon to buy 6 of them and could only find 2. They checked inventory and that's all they had. I'm glad they had 2 at least (and not just 1) - so at least I have one pair to PM later. I'll try another store later in the week for the other 4 I want to get.

Some other purchase possibilites for people: 3-month live cards are $19.99 - get 6 months for $19.98, a bit of a discount off the 12-month cards, anyway. Also, the 3-month kits with the headset, 100 MS points, and Joust are $29.99. The codes supposedly still work (though they all say they expired June 30th). You could get that and a 1600 points card for example... And of course plug-n-play kits which I would have gotten had I not just bought one at Gamecrazy. The 360 chargers ($29.99, includes one battery) are very nice too - much faster than my standard AA rechargeables charger.

You may be right - I just had it in my head it was "Xbox 360 Accessories", but re-reading speedy's post it is "Xbox Live Accessories", so maybe batteries and such won't work (though you could probably get an override on it if you really wanted to try). Well, if it is "Xbox Live Accessories" then they have even less reason to reject points cards (in response to enjoi777) as what else is there, really? If they don't count points cards and live memberships, the only things left as Xbox Live accessories are headsets and vision cameras .

enjoi777, I think you will have a fun time bringing the printed ad with a picture of the 1600 points card in to show that guy on Sunday. Hopefully he is there then.

And xplode427, it may be a moot point, but it seems mine charge up in 2 hours or so (maybe even less - I haven't timed them but they were done at least that quickly).

Crap, I'm definitely heading out tonight to buy my other 4 (got 2 already). These won't be available come Sunday if the FW horde is upon it.

Just a note - the CC store availability thing, at least for the points cards, is accurate. I bought the only 2 one store had and it now shows OOS at that store. Of course, there's no reason it shouldn't be accurate, but sometimes these things are flaky.Made me order two more cards from the CC close to home, where my other order is, and where I'll do my PM's. I'll check tomorrow around lunch to make sure it's ready to be picked up.

Yeah, it looks like FW is slow on the draw for this one, thankfully. Someone C & P'd the info from the thread here or the one on DVDTalk, the little fucker.

I bought my other 4 today, so I'm all set to PM 3 pairs on Sunday.

Thanks.

Thanks. As discussed previously in the thread, you have 14 days to pick up an in-store pickup order before it gets cancelled.

At least they gave credit to speedy on one of them. It's inevitable it happens, but at least he and the site get it's due credit.

Apparently, the 2 stores around here have an inventory of 1 point card and 3 point cards. I'm wondering, if I buy them all, can I get a price match to where I'd get $20 back, or does it all have to be from one store?

i'd say go for it. you can always return the cards.

Are they actually running out of cards? I don't feel like driving back and forth just for the price adjustment.

Who price matches Circuit City?

The conditions of the deal make it YMMV for price matching, but Walmart and Bestbuy are both possibilities.

Only places that would do PM's are Best Buy & Walmart. Target doesn't do PM's anymore. CompUSA might do it, if there's still one on your area. Other vendors, not sure.

Walmart might be a backup plan, though they've been more picky about doing PM's recently, at least for me.

I would think they wouldn't re-combine the orders.

Best you could hope for is have them let you return 1+1 and then rebuy them together. (which you'd probably get)

does anyone know for sure how in-store pick up works? Do they go grab your order off the floor as soon as it comes in or what?

edit: and why the hell do they charge shipping for in-store pick up?

someone posted this deal on the IGN xbox 360 lobby now.

http://boards.ign.com/xbox_360_lobby/b8271/147028098/p1/?12

my store is still showing they have points in stock for both stores in my area, so i might just wait and do an instore pickup saturday night, or just risk it and go in sunday morning.

My offer to help you figure out what is hot and what is not before you post them still stands, friend.

I could also help you pick out (as you get them) the hottest deal of the week to insert in the title. Might cut down on the laziness of the other posters.

Wierd, they quoted some place called "GameRush" (not affiliated with the Blockbuster game store). This GameRush site does not give you credit (so blame them, not x360fb). However, a reader at the xbox360fanboy site got your back, Speedy:

Real credit should go to speedy1961 over at CAG (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=145407) who had this deal posted 6 days ago. I hate it when that guy doesn't get credited with news by sites like "GameRush". Speedy was also the one to break the PS3 price drop. He gets these deals WAY early.

It ain't a rumor: it's happening.
