I saw this article on Kotaku earlier today

http://kotaku.com/gaming/wii/my-parents-wii-party-281112.php

It reminds me a lot my experiences with the Wii this past holiday season. I got a Wii from my parents for Christmas. I had to beg my father to let me set it up in the living room. I wanted him to try it out, but initially he said no. So, I got my sister to play some Wii sports with me. After a couple games of tennis, my dad wanted to try, and then my mom joined in later. We played for hours. By the end of the night, my dad (who is usually very quiet) was talking tons of smack. My dad hasn't played games since he had an intellivision. My mother tells me that he's been looking to buy one ever since, but hasn't had any luck finding one.

My mom and dad's 60th birthdays are coming in August, and my sister and I chipped in and got them a Wii, plus a couple extra controllers. Its really crazy, because I never thought that my parents would ever be interested in videogames. I'm not complaining though, now I'll have something to do when I go home.

That Wii Party he described sounds awfully sureal, like something straight out of a canned Nintendo advertisement...

Scary.

Doesn't Kotaku have editors? I understand Flynn De Marco's first language is quite clearly not English, but they should at least have someone who speaks the tongue at least glance over the article before they post it.

Yeah it almost does sound like a canned Nintendo promotion, but it sure rings true to me.

After playing around with the Wii after I got it.. my mother bought my father one for his birthday, then my 79 year old grandfather went out and bought himself one.

Nintendo may really have something going for themselves here...

ya that does seem like a nintendo-sponsored advertisement...

but it does make sense... before the wii i was going to give up playing video games just because i grew tired of them... in fact the last game i bought was in jan 2005...but thanks to wii I was able to get my game back on
