$199 shipped, free HDMI cable, 5 free HD DVDs.
Plays HD DVDs and upscales standard DVDs to HD. 720p/1080i output. Builtin decoders for DD+, TrueHD, and DTS-HD. HDMI & Component output.
Give it a shot, your jaw will drop when you see what HD DVD can do over standard DVD. Also, this model will work fine with 1080p HDTVs as they use inverse telecine to convert 1080i to 1080p with no resolution or signal loss.

I still don't understand why Blu-Ray is 2-3 times as much than HD DVD.

It doesn't offer much if anything over HD DVD, right.
That being said, can you really go wrong for $199? :)

Let me say I've purchased from value electronics before and the store is great. Their owner there really takes care of his customers and will provide you plenty of support well after the sales transactions.
Jump on this deal as its great.
You'll score 5 free movies, an HDMI cable, and an HD DVD player that also upconverts your standard DVDs.....for $199, you can't go wrong. I recently purchased an HD-XA2 from value electronics and love it.

If you bought the 360 drive at a store can you still return it? This thing is superior in every single way.

I could, but I won't. Can't justify the additional $70 when I need to buy books.

How much is the HD DVD drive anyways (for Xbox 360)?

But you don't get the 5 movies.
Plus books are overrated, I never used about 99% of them. I think the only book I used "daily" (classes were ever other day) was an english book and that was "only" $25-30.

Eh, the movies aren't worth phoning home over.
The books? I've been in college nearly ten years, it's time to be done. ;)

Does inverse telecine upscale the 1080i to 1080p? How exactly does it work? And great deal, but still deciding on it.

It's a great player... it also makes my old DVD's look fantastic (even DVD-R discs).

I don't know if it's a great deal or not but at amazon the Toshiba HD-A2 is only 238.00 with free shipping. I just ordered one! That is the cheapest I found and this is new NOT a refurb.

I agree. I have it also and it is by far the best upconverting DVD player I have seen.
By the way, thanks Ruined. Your advice in a prior post convinced me to trade in the A20 for the A2 and saved me a total of $200.00.
