X3 killed off a few very important characters. Do you think they'll start over like Batman Begins did and use a fresh cast anytime soon?

They really shouldn't.

I don't think they will. Don't they have a Wolverine pic in the works anyway?

Patrick Stewart is 67, so if they do do one they don't need to waste time.

There is a Wolverine movie AND a Magneto movie in the works. This franchise doesn't need a reboot - all three movies have been enjoyable (well, the first two definitely) and there is nothing wrong - people will still go see X-Men movies. After Batman and Robin there was no way I would ever go see another Batman movie again unless drastic changes were made - it's totally different with X-Men.

Patrick Stewart is 67 but he is still good enough to captain the Enterprise E one more time to redeem for the flop called NEMESIS.

Didn't you guys see the part of X3 after the credits? when they show professor X has taken over the body of the guy in the coma. I've heard rumors of a new trilogy about Apocalypse, but yeah it would be a ways off with the wolverine movie coming out.

Via IGN:

July 20, 2007 - South African filmmaker Gavin Hood, best known for winning the Foreign Language Film Oscar for 2005's Tsotsi, has been picked to direct the forthcoming X-Men spin-off, Wolverine, starring Hugh Jackman. Today's Variety reports that Hood was chosen from a field of several hot directors, but adds that Fox was won over by his new film, Rendition (http://movies.ign.com/objects/857/857431.html), starring Reese Witherspoon, Jake Gyllenhaal, Meryl Streep and Peter Sarsgaard.
Underworld helmer Len Wiseman, and Disturbia director D.J. Caruso had been rumored as front-runners.
Wolverine is set to start shooting in November with a 2008 release planned. Lauren Shuler-Donner is producing along with Hugh Jackman and John Palmermo through their production company, Seed Prods.
"I have long been a fan of Gavin's work and know he will make a masterful film with the character intensity and action beats the fans expect," Jackman told the trade.
Hood will helm from a script written by David Benioff.
Variety scoops that Wolverine will tell Logan's origin story by mixing elements from established Marvel Comics along with Frank Miller's more recent graphic novels, Weapon X.

Man, I loved that movie. Some funny lines in it. I'll talk more about it in the Trek thread.

I hope so, James Marsden is one of the few actors I actually find attractive.

That's the beauty (in a way) of X3. In the end, nothing big really happened. Cyclops was never seen on-screen dying. Considering this is a comic book movie, that means there's no way to say he ever really died. He could be wandering the streets of Mexico without his visors yelling "Guys! This isn't funny!" Chuck died, but then in the end he placed himself into the comatose guy's body, so he's technically alive and kicking still. Jean has died and come back so many times in the comics that it's easily concievable for her to come back to life if they wanted her. Finally, Magneto was shown at the end to have gotten some of his powers back so the cure obviously isn't very permanent, which means Mystique could easily have her powers back too. In the end, X3 actually accomplishes nothing and they could easily carry on the X-Men movie series. I really hope if they do they bring Cyclops back because he's always been pretty much my favorite X-Men character and he just got absolutely dicked around in X3.

I'd love for them to come back with a second trilogy about Apocalypse. Have the first movie be about Sinister, the second be about one of the villians (maybe Mastermind since we haven't used him yet) trying to bring Apocalypse back, and then have the third be about Apocalypse himself. Hopefully one of the movies will involve Storm dying, if solely cause I hate Halle Berry since she basically ruined X3 by bitching and complaining about wanting more screen time.

That was me! I yelled that out!

I hated that Cyclops died. It was all due to filming schedule conflictions. Though I think he made the right choice in following Bryan Singer to Superman. It was all in the spoilers and comic book forums that he might be replaced by another actor, until it was revealed they found a way to have him be in the movie for a bit. Kill him.

Brett Ratner literally killed the franchise by killing everyone who actually was worth caring about in the X-Men franchise. Wolverine shouldn't have been the central character, you can write him into every Marvel movie for the next 5 years and it would make sense. He's friends with everyone!

I do think a franchise relaunch should be done. I'd set it to where they're younger and just starting out, use no name actors so there's no focus on one and Halle Berry won't need to make several emotional speeches about teamwork.

The director of Disturbia, Underworld, or Tsotsi?

Any of those guys would've been 20 times better than Brett Ratner, why didn't they hire them for X3?!!?!

I'm still waiting for the one day where they take all the actors from every superhero movie, and throw them into the "Civil War" movie that I KNOW will happen.

Damn right, I always thought he was one of the most charismatic X-men, damn shame he didn't appear in the movies. Of course that 3rd one was such garbage they probably would've just killed him off anyway.

I hope they make a *new* 3rd x-men movie, and just pretend the one they made never happened. I know I'd like to.

My friend and I joke that the next movie should open with Scott getting up out of bed, saying he just had the worst nightmare ever. We then show the back of Storm at the door (so we don't have to hire Halle Berry) and then immediately Scott blasts her with an optic blast that kills her and he goes "It's my team, bitch!" and then the movie continues on as normal and is the real X3.

I hope you didn't pass over "Batman Begins" then. "Begins" is just fantastic. Well worth owning on DVD.

I agree with everything but the relaunch. They should just insert a new movie after X2 and continue in a new direction (much like Singer did in Superman Returns).

It such a shame that all of the character building Singer did in the first 2 movies was shat all over by Ratner because he wanted to make a bigger and badder movie than Singer. Ratner lost sight of who the characters were.

Professor X became a dick (remember him snapping at Wolverine? I know the twisted direction they've taken him in the comics, but I don't care, it doesn't fot the movie).

Magneto sent hundreds of mutants into battle knowing full well that they were going to be de-powered. Ratner treated him like he was a "rule the world at any cost" bad guy instead of a "let mutants rule the world" bad guy. He was all about mutant empowerment and wouldn't sacrifice mutants to defend or better himself.

Wolverine (the ultimate loner) gave a "there's no I in team" speech. What the hell?

And all of the random mutants that Ratner thought was fan service turned out the be crap too. Psylocke anyone?

The best thing coming out of X3 was Beast. That has to be the greatest casting ever. The "Oh my stars and garters" line was awesome too.

Of course not - Batman Begins was awesome because serious changes were made to the franchise after the horrid "Batman and Robin." I don't think X-Men needs to be reimagined just yet (although getting rid of Storm would be a good idea).
