Now that the demo has been rated, it's only a matter of time until they release it!!!
w0000t!
Of course, this should have been expected. It's such an odd-looking game I'm sure a demo could help it ALOT sales-wise.
According to the latest list of age ratings to be published by Germany’s USK board, a demo of Irrational's Bioshock is due for imminent release.
Unsurprisingly, the demo has been rated 18 by the board, although its entry on the official USK website doesn't specify when we'll be seeing it on the Marketplace.
However, with Bioshock due to be released in all its horrific glory on the 24 August, we wouldn’t be too surprised if the demo popped up in the next couple of weeks, so as to ensure people get a full-on taste of what 2K Games and Irrational will be dishing up shortly after.

I'm sure they worked hard on the demo. Trying to sell an offline-only game to the 360 crowd is rough enough, a bad demo would sink it(no pun intended).
Can't wait to play it.

So the demo being rated for Germany means we're getting a demo soon here in the US? I hope so.

Don't the demos usually come out after the games?

That happened with The Darkness.. By the time the demo was up, I already got it from gamefly.
Back OT, I can't wait to play bioshock! I don't care if it doesn't have multiplayer, I just want to chat with friends while I'm playing. :)

Keep in mind that demos can and often do take a month or more of development time. They go through a full release cycle and approval just like the full game. The only time it's really a great idea for a developer to work on a demo before release is if they are pretty much done, and feel they can't really polish or add to the game much more until it's release. Which is pretty rare.
There are many a developer out there bitter about demos because they feel it took away from their dev time, and the game suffered for it. But a lot of publishers force them to do it so they have no choice.

I believe that Ken said during his E3 junket that the 360 version of the game was finished. I wouldn't be surprised if the team that was in charge of handling it was placed in charge of creating a vertical slice for download on Live.
The official forums are a buzz about this-- sadly since its Friday and close to release I don't think we're going to get an official comment on this one until monday- And I wouldn't expect the demo out anytime in the near future, either extremely close to, or after the release of the game itself. At least we get a demo, I do not think the PC will have such a luxury as it was (at least as of E3) still going through its testing/polishing.
Nice that people can get a taste eventually-- still day one for me as it always has been.

What I find funny is that I believe one of the devs said their wouldnt be a demo at all.
Ill give this a download, see if its worth 60 or not.

If anybody's played System Shock 2 on the PC, they know the huge potential (and expectations to live up to) for Bioshock. That game was AMAZING. This game could be just as good, if not better if they held to their standards.
And I'd rather have a polished single-player game, than a hastily thrown-together-slapped-in-at-the-end-so-they-can-put-'multiplayer'-on-the-box-multiplayer component.

I love the fact that the 360 has demos. Although its a plus and minus for Microsoft. They sold me on Ace Combat .. a game I would've never thought of purchasing before I played the demo. Conversely, I dont think I'll be getting Blue Dragon despite the fact I was pumped about it before.
And to stay on topic, I cant wait for Bioshock. I just preordered the Limited Edition bundle at Gamestop:

I'm completely sold on Bioshock already, so I'm not sure if I'll even bother with the demo. I'd kinda like the experience to be completely fresh when I get the full game.
Good news for those on the fence about it tho.

I'm in the same situation. I've already preordered this game and am already sold on it, so I think i'm gonna pass on the demo.
