My Xbox has been crapping out as of late. Every 15 minutes I get a DDE and nothing I can find helps. I tried cleaning the laser and mirror as well as readjusting the laser and nothing works. So I am looking for the cheapest way to fix my Xbox.

I need either a new laser for my drive or a new drive.

Oh and if any one knows : Is the drive type tied to the Xbox BIOS? I don't care about which drive I have I just want the cheapest option and of the cheapest thing end up being a Samsung I just want to know that it will work.

The answers ye seek lie here (http://www.llamma.com/xbox/Repairs/repairs.htm). They sell parts as well. Good luck.

I was looking into this a few months ago because I wanted to replace the crappy Thomson drive in my modded Xbox. From what I've read, you can easily swap all 3 Xbox drives in and out since they aren't tied to the BIOS at all. The only time you'd need to worry about the BIOS is if you're putting a PC dvd drive inside it.
