I've noticed over my time here at the forum that one of the largest problems is trying to locate where the deals exist. I recently had a problem locating an existing deal in my area, Massachusetts. So I propose this topic is for Massachusets Cheap Ass Gamers who want to help and can request it here. Here we go!d by

So far I've found that the Circuit City in Natick has the really cheap prices. What I mean is I've bought both Breath of Fire V and Freaky Flyers for $7 each.

I've checked out the Circuit City in Braintree, and they too have Breath of Fire V for around $7, although I don't know what other deals they have.

Target in Westboro has some cheap titles, although their selection is dominated by newer releases. I was able to pick up Summer Heat Beach Volleyball for $5.23.

I'm heading to the Marlboro Target tomorrow to see what they've got. I heard someone was able to purchase Arc the Lad for $5. If this is true, and I can find it, I'll be extatic.

For all the Cheap Ass Gamers in Massachusetts, let's give eachother a big hand. Thanks.

Anyway, to the moderators, if this topic doesn't belong here please move it.

Circuit City deals should be the same nation-wide....it's just a matter of whether you can find the games or not and also whether they are marked correctly or not. Mine marked like 0 of the clearanced games correctly which worked to my advantage as there were plenty of the cheapies to go around. My copy of BOF:DQ was marked $50 and rang up $5 (this was before the recent price increases).

Ker-bump.

I live in Watertown, MA. I've been looking for good brick-n-mortar places near me lately and haven't found much. There's one tiny little independant place in a building called the Garage in Harvard Square, basically a little niche in the stairwell with a counter and a guy who plays Sega Saturn games all day. The prices aren't especially awesome but if you wanna support a local business instead of a big chain, check it out.

I'll keep an eye out at places like Circuit City for the time being, thanks for the tips.

It's official, the Target in Marlborough, MA has a crap load of games. I can't remember which games exactly, but I can tell you that I picked up Arc The Lad AND Ape Escape 2 for $11.51. That's a good deal no matter how you look at it.

So if you live in the area, get your rear ends there.

In Malden MA, just up the street from the T station in Malden Centre, there is a small store called 'Krazy Jims'. I haven't been there in almost a year but I think it's still there.

The prices aren't the greatest honestly but you will occasionally find some sweet deals. It's all about timing, I used to go and buy out the guy's stock of Sega Master System games (complete and $4 each) as well as $1 NES games. I have also seen NEO GEO CD's for sale there as well as stuff from Sega CD, 3DO, and Turbo Graphx.

The store does carry quite a lot of games from the SNES to Ps2/X-box but the prices are comparable to those at EB or Gamestop.

Yeah, I work right off of Rt.9 and get an hour or so for lunch and at least once I week I go to the new Target by the Solomon Pond mall or the one down by the Wal-Mart off of Route 9. I think that's still Westboro.

I should go to one of them today but I'm not sure if I will.

I do need to pick up Dave Chapelle's new DVD at Best Buy.

Oh yeah, and if you live in Boston, check out some of the local corner stores to see if they sell games. If they are selling DVDS then they are also more likely selling videogames such as old Genesis carts or brand new Ps2/X-box games, which usually are $35-42.

More news fellas. Went back to the Marlborough Target and picked myself up a copy of Auto Modelista for $7. They had a few copies left there.

Also found out that Tenchu 3 was $7.
Found out that Chaos Legion was $9

If you guys live close enough and these are games that you want, you may want to get your asses there now!

Also found out that the Westboro Target's selection is freaking horrible. They had a few copies of Silent Hill 3, but they were all still $29.99. No real games worthy of note.

Hope this helps.

Whoa! Always a good thing when people from MA represent.

I'm currently at NEU in Boston, and there aint no deals in boston!

Let's see....back in the hayday of the CC sale, Me and my gf hit up every CC in the state (minus Dedham and.....that might have been it), and we found selection and price to both be fairly consistant.

The Target at the Liberty Tree mall in Danvers usually doesn't have anything, although I'm gonna make a UPC check this weekend. The Target in Natick off of Rt. 9 usually has even less. Hey KidTrunks, did you say you got the last copy of Evil Dead? I think that was the one I reported on! (Check the target thread a few pages back). You probably own the same copy that I passed up! (I find things like that funny)

Lets see....the CC in Somerville is always a choice stop, since it's right next to Good Times. That's it I think.

Also, a suggestion to CheapyD. Could you add a section to the forums that deals with local deals? Like a thread for each state?

I live in the Boston area and have access to 5 different targets between my office and home. Medford, Somerville, Saugus, Danvers, and Woburn. I have not found any decent deals outside of Clock Towers. I am looking for Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow. Target used to have it for 7.50. Has anyone had any luck at these stores for anything? I read about all these deals and never have found any.

In my experience, a mall to avoid is Cambridgeside Galleria...unfortunately it's the only mall I can go to regularly (I live next to the Fleet Center) and the games stores: KB, EB, Sam Baddy, and BB are devoid of deals (I assume because of proximity to the city).

I'm predominantly a Cube player and must say that selection in each of those stores is poor-piss poor. I did manage to find Timesplitters 2 for $15 at KB, but that is the only place I feel I have succeeded in that mall.

There's a Gamestop in the Pru that I go to about every week but again, you're buying games with the Prudential Center markup.

Does anyone know of any other good places that are in the city or have good T access? I haven't been to Landmark Centre yet...any idea how the BB there is?

I went to Westboro target last Friday and I didn't see any good deals. well.. I guess I could always check out marlborough target.

I am in Malden and like you guys in greater Boston, I rarely find any good deals around here. Seems from the posts that the further west you go the better chance you have of getting deals. My only big score was a few months back I bought Paper Mario for my N64 for 10 bucks brand new. I am always on the lookout for PS2 game deals and they have been hard to come by.

Marlboro Target. nothing. I don't know where you found the Auto Modillesta but it wasn't on the cheap rack. They did have a bunch of Midtown Madnesses for 14 bucks and Hulk for 10 but not all the other Arc the Lad stuff you were saying.

Oh well.

But... I did get Best Buy down the street to 110% price match the Rainbow 6 that Target had on sale this week and in using a Gamer Gift Card and 2 $5 dollar Reward Zone coupons I did get the final price down to 19 bucks. So the day wasn't shot. I also popped into the Borders to get Kevin Mitnick's Art of Deception, the Winter edition of 2600 and an Action Pursuit Games magazine.

Did you need to know all that? No. No you didn't.

You must've not looked carefully enough. They're in the glass cases. Arc the lad is in the top row in 2nd or 3rd case from the left. Auto Modelista is in the bottom row in the 2nd case from the left. Tenchu 3 is in 2nd or 3rd row in the first glass case from the left. I'm CERTAIN they had more copies of these unless someone went and bought them all some time between last night at 8PM and whenever you went to look for them.

Someone mentioned Best Buy in the Cambridge Galleria Mall not having many cheap games. I can tell you now that the reason for that is because if a game is marked down dirt cheap, the employees will scoop 'em up and sell them on ebay.

I also remembered another place to look for some games~ Newbury Comics (Back Bay, down the street from the Prudental). I haven't been there since Oct. but they had quite a few new and used games with widely varying prices. I remember used copies of Metroid Prime, Dragon Ball Z Budokai, Shinobi, and Way of the Samurai were $11.

Strider Turbulence

One of my friends works at the BB in Cambridge and he usually sells me one of his discounted items.

I went to Newbury Comics today and saw some pretty good deals.
Rez--$20
Freedom Fighters (X-box) $30
Killswitch (X-box) $25
Deus Ex: IW, Star Wars: KOTOR-- $35
Star Fox Adventures: $12
Wrestlemania: Arcade (psone) $4

I also found a store that is near Newbury Comics that sells games. Nothing too great in there but there was a fairly large selection and the prices were generally lower than EB or Gamestops (ex: Contra: Shattered Soldier is $18 as opposed to $28 at Gamestop).

There were some Dreamcast games there but I didn't see the rpices and they didn't look to hot.

If you're in watertown, your best options are the EB at the arsenal mall (shitty little one though) and the bestbuy across the street. And if the KB toys is still open there, that too.

I usually go to the burlington mall for EB, Funco/Gamestop, CC, KB. I do most of my shopping online now though, 25% off used at EB is usually better than most. Though I think they try and stick you with the cases with more stickers on them and the more scratched up games if you use the coupon (been my experience anyway).

Anyone remember the EB trade-in deal where you could trade in a ps1, 64, etc and get $10 a game? I traded in an old ps1 and a bunch of worthless old ps1 games (crappy ones)... Got a new PS2 for $40.

Alright alright. I started this topic and I haven't posted here in a while. Here are my findings:

Since I'm situated in between Worcester and Framingham I typically only travel to those Target's. Westboro, Marlborough, Worcester, and Framingham. From my experience, the only store that had anything worth purchasing for the PS2 was the Marlborough one, as I've mentioned earlier.

The Westboro and Framingham Targets have nearly nothing for PS2. I don't own an XBox, GBA, nor GC so I don't look at those games. The Worcester Target had plenty of games, just none for real cheap.

Auto Modellista is a mediocre game. GT3 eclipses it in every way except for the 'cool cell shading'. Also, the game is SHORT. What I mean by 'SHORT' is that it won't take you very long to go through the 1 player story mode. I mean it'll take you 1 weekend if you're good at racers. I don't have a modem so I've never played it online.

Ape Escape 2 is a GREAT game although a little childish. It isn't difficult, it isn't easy, it's just plain old fun. One of those 'gotta catch 'em all!' feeling sto it with 300+ monkeys to catch.

If anybody has gone to the new Target that opened up at the South Plaza(or whatever it's called) in Boston let us know! I intend on going there some time within the next week or so, but if anybody gets there before I do feel free to share what information you've gathered.

Nice finds at BB, Strider. I've never tried the one at Landmark Center (green line = yuck).

I've found some stuff you Boston guys might been interested in.

-Circuit City in Dedham has 1 copy of Disgaea at full price.

-EB in Copely Mall has a used and complete copy of Skies of Arcadia on Dreamcast for $25

-CD Spins, a record store behind the Firestation in Copely had--
Splinter Cell: Pandora Tommorow--$27
The Sims: Bustin' Out $25 on XBOX $22 on Gamecube
Final Fantasy X2 $27
NFL Street $27
Panzer Dragoon Orta $15
50% off all PSONE games until April 30. Kinda pissed 'cuz someone bought that complete copy of Street Fighter Collection I wanted. :?

This seems like a good store in general to buy used copies of fairly new games because they are very strict with disc condition and most games never go over $30. I'll be checking back at this place until I see an XBOX Hitman Contracts for $30 or under!!

But does anyone here know of a store in Boston that will buy strategy guides? Cash or credit, I don't care which 'cuz I have a closet full of guides from as far back as the psone days and I really need to get rid of them.

There is a place in Cambridge, Harvard Square that buys Strat. Guides for 50 cents to a $1.00. It is in the Garage. The store is called All Your Game, and it is located in a little snook of the stairwell. When you stop by the little shop, tell him that the guy upstairs @ Tokyo Kid sucks. It's an inside joke.

I went there last summer, didn't know that guy would buy strategy guides. I have a whole bunch, some even from the .01 BB sales (I hope he doesn't know about those :P ) and there was lots of stuff I wanted to buy from there.
There was a kick ass mint Turbo Graphx 16 there, if I see next time I go I'm scoping it.

And I didn't know there was CD Spins in Downtown crossing, I'll check that place out on Saturday.

Hey I've been there a couple times! Did you know they closed down Chibi Toys? Tokyo Kid is a really good store, and All Your Game is a tiny, tiny, hole in the wall (literally) place. Prices = decent, nothing to leave home for, but if you're around, interesting to check out.

For anyone interested, here is what I found at Gamestop in Field's Corners

PSONE
Suikoden I--$30
Vandal Hearts II $20 (there were two copies out in the racks, one had a real mint looking original case I assume they have at least one mint and complete copy)
Guilty Gear $15
Xenogears Greatest Hits--$18
Kartia--$13
Hosigami: Ruining Blue Earth $35 NEW!!!
Legend of Mana $25 NEW!!!!

They have used copies of Disgaea for $45. It could be less as the box may not have the updated price. Something to remember when they have their buy two get one free sale again.

All Dreamcast items are 30% off. Not much of a selection but they did have Marvel vs Capcom 1 (just the CD) and part 2.

CD Spins in Downtrown crossing (just a brief walk up the street from Sam Goody) had Power Stone (DC), Destrega, Fighters Impact (import) and some other stuff I can't remember.

The one in Copely had Red Dead Revolver for $22 on XBOX.
Strawberries in Downtown Crossing has a neat deal where you save $5 on each game when you buy 4 or more. This a good way to get PH/GH/PC titles or some of the 9.99 psone games.

I've seen Mobile Light Force, Wu Tang and Wild 9 for $10 and Arc the Lad Collection rung up at $30 (new copy I suppose).

I guess that's the price you pay for living in/near large metropolitan areas. Between Saugus, Cambridgeside, and Landmark, all the millions of people with disposable income (or $5.24 in this case) all can get to the punch pretty easily.

I live like 10 minutes walk from Cambridgeside and have yet to buy a game there, because, between all the damn people in the city and greedy employees, there's hardly ever anything worth buying, left.

Damn..the strawberries downtown rejected like 7 of my games yesterday (apparently having more than 1 copy of a game means they are full). I'm trying again today, if that doesn't work then fuck it, I'll go to another FYE store and settle for store credit.

And the best buy in Landmark center has some double pack ps2 games for $5!

Spyro/Pac Man World 2
Crash/Splashdown
Ace Combat 4/Midnight Club

Not the best set of games but you can't beat 2 for $5 and they have like at least 8 sets for each.

Somene let us know if you find something similar in the Dedham, Cambridge, or whatever BB you go to.

I also seen
Ultimate Muscle (GBA, jeez nobody wants this I take it?)
Big Mutha Truckas (XBOX, 1 copy)
Disney Extreme Skate adventure (1 copy on XBOX, 3 on GC)
I-Ninja 1 copy (GC)
Star Wars: Clone wars (GC, about 3 copies)
Star Wars Starfighter (XBOX, 2 copies)
Jimmy Neutron (GBA) 1 Copy
Smash Cars (PS2)

For 9.99
Jurassic Park Operation Genesis (plenty of copies) PS2
Tony Hawk 3 (GC)

They also had some ps1 games for $5 like Tomb Raider 3 and Crash 3, didn't pay much attention. They still have one copy of Putter Golf, which is .99 cents. Some bastard bought like 8 copies of 102 Dalmations on Tuesday when it was .99 cents.

Star Wars/Tetris worlds (XBOX)
Tony Hawk 2X (XBOX)

$15

Future Tactics (PS2)
Max Payne (XBOX)

Command and Conquer 2 (PC)$3

If you can score a copy of NCCA Football 2004 on Gamecube ($5 at Best Buy) you can get it in for $26 and just pay tax to get it.

Or you can buy Go Go Hypergrind at an EB store for $13 and trade it in for $26 credit. Roadkill on Gamecube is $4.98 at TRU and went for $24 s couple of months ago....

They were starting to move them into 4.99 bins while I was there, so there might not be much left by now. I did also see some MGS2: Substance for the X-Box that they missed when putting the bins together, so good chance those are still there. Star Wars/Tetris World 24.88 This is actually a rip off as the game aren't sealed. I don't know why I'm posting it.

PSONE car adapter was in a clearance bin. 75% off it's marked price. They also had some controller for psone for like $5.

Blockbuster (Dedham, in the same strip mall as Strawberries)
No Buy one Get 50% off the second game but lots of games were put out.

Marvel vs Capcom 2 (XBOX) $13
Mega Man Anniverary Collection Gamecube $20---I'm not sure if this is new or used. I think it's new.

Nah, I just went to the South Bay Mall store. No Rez or Disgaea but still some $10 goodness.

Soul Calibur (GC)--a few copies $10
King of Fighters 2000/2001--few copies $15
Deus Ex (XBOX) Plenty of copies $10
Wario World $15..I think I got the last copy
Prince of Persia XBOX 1 copy I seen $10
Beyond Good and Evil PLenty of copies $10 (XBOX)
Zoocube (GBA)
Sneakers
Dark Angel
Can't remember the rest I seen in the bins, mostly left overs from the BOGO sale.

I heard that in October they will reduce these prices even more so I'm going to get what I really want and wait for the others to drop.

Went to Alewife and South Bay Toys R Us's.

Alewife had next to nothing. A few Dreamcast leftovers, picked up Death Crimson OX and Typing of the Dead, rang up b1g1 free but at $10. They did have VF4 Evo but I didn't buy it.

South bay had a few copies of Deus Ex, Silent Hill 3, Clock Tower 3, Crimson Skies... However, the cashier demanded to see an ID before I could buy the games. ID? What the hell? I didn't have my ID on me so she only let me buy Crimson Skies. I've never heard of such bullshit in my life. I'm 21 and I look old. This is not beer and cigarettes here... Is being an asshole a prerequisite for working at Toys R Us?

Only non-sports DC title I saw there was Illbleed. Again, couldn't buy it.

Didn't see King of Fighters or Beyond Good and Evil.

They did have Secret Weapons Over Normady but I already have a copy.

Toys R Us can kiss my ass, and this sale aside, I'll never shop there again.

UPDATE: Had a friend pick up Silent Hill 3 and Clock Tower 3, they seemed to be out of Deus Ex. And they didn't ask her for her ID.

If anyone is interested, Strawberries downtown had a couple of (new) copies of Castlevania: Circle of the Moon for $15.

Just my luck I don't have any money for another 2 weeks.

I went to the TRU in Dedham last weekend and they had plenty of .1 guides and several 50% off games including Prince of Persia, Deus Ex, and Beyond Good and Evil, and Fatal Frame (all XBOX). The woman behind the counter said she saw Rez recently but neither of us could find it on the floor or behind the counter.

Outside of Target Rainchecks and trades in I can't think of any. FYE should carry SF: AC so you might want to go to EB or Gamestop and get either Black & Bruised (Gamecube only), Go Go Hypergrind, Pro Race Driver (XBOX only), or Motor Trend Lotus Challenge (XBOX only). These bad boys cost no more than $15 at EB or Gamestop and FYE takes them for $27 dollars in credit. Just add the additional $4.50 to cover the rest. that's what I plan on doing later on this week.

Kidtrunks1128

So you're telling me that if I go to EB or Gamestop, buy a copy of Black and Bruised (GC) for $15, and then take it to FYE and trade it in, I'll get $27 in return or a $12 profit?

So, in essence, I could do that 3 times and then I would have made $36 in profits and then pick up SF:AC and still walk away with about $4 in profit?

That sounds too good to be true. The only problem is that I don't know of any FYE in my area. The closest one I can think of is in the South Shore Plaza Mall. Conveniently, there's an EB right next to it, haha.

But thanks for your input man, that was great. If I was a girl I'd let you do things to me. AHAHAHA

It's nothing to get too exicted over but if your ever in the area, you might wanna check out the Circuit City in South shore Plaza.

They still have games from the $5 clearance in stock....and they still have their outdated price tags.

The selection of games aren't worth going crazy over. It's more like a bunch of Dreamcast games, Soul of the Samurai, New Legends, Evergrace, etc.

I did see some copies of Silent Scope Complete there. Still marked at $29.99 and it will ring up as $10 at the registers.

Sam Goody in the mall also has a selection of used games.
A couple of used Breath of Fire 5's for $13
A used Castlevania: COTM for about $13
A used R.A.D. for $14.

FYE in Arsenal Mall has a new Marvel vs Capcom 2 (PS2) for A$30. A new XBOX version is $70 (!) No, I don't know why either.

I don't think they had much to begin with. I went there last Wednesday and they had a bunch of Black & Bruised, 1 Colin Mcrae 03, and that was about all I saw. The guy working in the department seemed like he was stilling putting stuff out but I couldn't wait around.

I was in that area yesterday but I didn't go in. The only reason I was down there was to buy a new bass amp at Guitar Center and trade in some old equipment.

I guess a lot of people bought what they wanted in advance and tried to PM later because many shelves were barren in the morning.

Best Buy in the Cambridge Galleria Mall had (at around 7 pm)

Bloodrayne 2 (xbox) $9.99
Otogi 2 $9.99
Midway Arcade Treasues 2 $9.99
Yager $0.99 ( only 1)
Bard's Tale $9.99

Plenty of copies of everything 'cept Yager and they aren't marked at the right price.

Best Buy in Watertown Mall (at around 8 pm)

2 copies of Mr Driller DS marked at $29.99 (should ring up at $9.99)
2 copies of the Urbz on the Gameboy Advance $9.99
1 copy of Breakdown marked at $19.99 but pretty sure it'll ring up at $4.99 (this is actually pretty old)

Shopper's World TRU didnt have either of those last time I was there. Frankly I've been to 8 TRUs and not seen any of either of those games. I have looked for them too, especially Halo 2 LE

I'm not so sure about the Salem, NH TRU still having a lot of 9.98 games. I just called them, to see if they had RE4. They said they had about 14 of them in today, but some guy came in and bought all of them and about half of their entire stock of other 9.98 games.

Any update on MA sigs?

I'd do them if I had any semblance of competency.

I tried

Persona 2, Breath of Fire 4, Resident Evil 2 (GC), Resident Evil 3 (GC)

Persona 2 and Breath of Fire 4 have been spotted at the EB Games in North Attelboro, MA 2 copies each, mint condition.
They also have Resident Evil 2 and 3 mint for 39.99 each.
All 4 are used but are like-new.

Does the Shoppers World TRU have anything left?

I went last week and I didn't find anything I considered good, but I forget what they had by now, and obviously they'll have less since then. North Attleboro has nothing and Bellingham is also pretty dry.

At the Liberty Tree Mall Comp USA in Peabody, MA:

There was one copy of Robot Alchemic Drive (R.A.D.) in the value bin, which rings up for $20. The bin is to the left of the registers when you walk in.

bah. I waited too long for the TRU going out of business sale, and missed out on cold fear, VJ2, and bloodrayne 2 for less than 8$ each.
