Store Clearances

I looked in the CAG Wiki, but didnt find anything. Can someone explain why these store have these clearances. I know to make room for the new games, but why do they go so low in price? Also, those penny guides. I never quite understood how they eventually got $0.01

They are not intended to be sold, but rather defaced and discarded. In my area, I've had very little luck finding any penny guides.
