Thanks for the help guys, I'm about halfway through Arcadia playing on easy. I'm loving the story and the environment, but the gameplay is starting to feel a little repetitive. (It is still a nice break from COD4 MP). I've played about 3 hours on easy (switched when I was getting annoyed killing all those crazy people and turrets) and I am just wondering how long the game is/how far am I. It is just a rent so I need to finish in a timeframe.

You can't kill them, you can either harvest them or save them.
Save them for the good ending.

Do you mean the BD's that guard them? If so just try to keep your distance, plug em with armor piercing rounds and alot of people have luck with electrick buck early on. The first couple are tough but as you progress, you get better weapons and can use, let just say "STrategy" more.
Also have a plan and be aware that you can make the BD's fight on your terms. They wont attack you unless you attack them or threaten the LS first, so I suggest hacking some turrets, bots, rpg's whatever, and then lay into the BD with a fierce initial barrage (like a full clip of electrick buck or armor peircing). This is sort of like a blitzkrieg tactic. You CAN run away from them and lose them in pursuit, keep in mind also that their health does not degenerate.
Have telekenesis? Use the exposive red metal canisters to get a hit in and then run away. Lure the BD into turrets and bots and he will stop fighting you and focus on the harassing turret. Combine these tactics, hit one with a canister, unload your weapon barrage, then retreat/lure the BD into turrets to help you.
Like I said though, its really only necessary for the first two as you get better and better weapons which make em MUCH easeir later in the game.
Baseball, Aradia is perhaps VERY ROUGHLY 1/3rd into the game. Some of the next levels are pretty long but the last 3 or 4 are much shorter. General consensus is that, if you take your time to explore/experiment it takes roughly 25 hours.

Whoops, yea I ment "BDs.." I knew of the armor peicing rounds, but I never had much success anyway...
These tips will help. Thank you.

Wow! I just got my replacement big daddy figurine in the mail! It came via UPS.
It came with the art book as well, I'm amazed that they followed through with this. It had been so long that I had forgotten about it!
Good job 2k for a great game and for keeping your promise with this figurine!

I don't think it matters now. Pretty sure if you harvest even one, your stuck with the bad ending and can't get the "Little Sister Savior" achievement.
Harvesting the rest will give you more Adam and make the game a bit easier though since you can buy upgrades sooner.

You guys should know that the game does allow you to harvest one, and only one LS. If you stick to just one, and rescue ALL the rest, you will still get everything (story and ach wise) that you would have if you rescued every single one.

Wow, I am so pissed, I was about to go kill that son of a bitch, Ryan, and I had to stop playing. This game is so exciting and has the best story of any game...ever. The more I play it and the more I get used the the gameplay, the more I like it. I definatly havn't played close to 20 hrs yet, after you kill ryan does a lot more happen?

A good bit more, but not a ton.
I beat the game in 16 hours. I did a lot of exploring, saved all the little sisters and so forth, but I didn't go out of the way to find every audio diary etc.

Since I'm almost done with the game, will I be able to go back and do more research and find the gun upgrade stations. I don't want to play the game again and its only a rental, but I want to get as many achievements as possible.
Also, I'm still thinking about what happened after I killed Ryan. Absolutely amazing. This game could easily be a movie. (They better not make it one though!)

You get to a point where you cannot go back, so do what you need before getting too close to the end.

My replacement that I received today most definitely feels heavier. It stands firm as well, my old one wobbles a little bit. Coloring on the replacement is a little different too - they look almost hand painted, so there's some variation.

I can't find a Big Daddy!!!!! I just walked around for 30 minutes looking for him. I just turned myself into a big daddy and the LS let me through the door, then I got the message saying I haven't dealt with all the LS's and I need the ADAM. I went on a hunt, feel like I've covered the whole place 3 times and never heard a BD or LS... Very annoying! Did this ever happen to you? what did you do?

Same. About damn time.
The artbook is fantastic. :D
It's much nicer to have in my hands than to have the digital version.
I am getting ready to start this game (probably tomorrow).
I don't really want to read through this and spoil anything, but I would like to get all the achievements in one go through.
So, what's the deal with the Big Daddy achievements? Can somebody tell me without spoiling anything else? Am I supposed to harvest one and save all the others? Is it a particular one?
Thanks.

As someone who is also currently playing the game and trying to do the same thing, I've got one tip that you might like. Its about a setting and a style of play, so this shouldn't spoil the game, but I'll enclose it in the tag just to be safe.
Play on the Hard Difficulty and don't use Vita-Chambers, just save a lot. This is worth 140 points. I had decided not to use the chambers because I heard it was too easy with them. I typically just play on Medium so as to not aggrevate myself too much and I was really bummed when I learned that I could have gotten a bunch more points if I had just played on hard.

It is technically not possible to get all the achievements on one playthrough, but you can get almost all of them (all but one actually) by:
1) Playing on Hard
2) Not respawning (turning off Vitachambers)
3) Saving all the Little Sisters
I haven't done it yet, but I printed up a few checklists to make the 100% playthrough a bit easier:
- A list of all audio tapes
- A list of all tonics
- A list of all plasmids
- A list of all the weapon upgrade locations
A bit more spoilerish, are the two achievements that you can't get on "one playrthrough":
- Killing Cohen and taking his picture for "Irony"
- Letting Cohen Live, unlocking his room for "Found Cohen's Room" as well as a few others (as there's some stuff you need in his room for other achievements).
You can easily get the first by saving right when you face him, and choosing the other option after loading the save.

One of my favorite moments in the game is when
Sander Cohen comes out of his apartment and he screams "I'm Fucking Sander Cohen!" - and then you put a shotgun blast in his face
What a great game

You can get everything in one playthrough (although I would NOT recommend trying to do it without vita chambers - talk about an exercise in frustration). You let Cohen live but kill him in his apartment later and snap the pic of his dead body. I played through once and got 960 points (I played on Medium and used vita chambers like a mofo).

Probably. Every game I've seen with difficulty achievements for beating it required playing from start to finish on that difficulty level without changing it.

Still looking forward to getting back to Rapture on hard in the near future.

going back a few pages about being scared, they definitely got me 2 or 3 times. the first i remember being in that one shower area where it gets steamy and when the steam disappears a splicer is just standing right in front of you. another time was when a splicer was playing dead and i tried to search, only to have her come at me. i also loved those white statued splicers, i give irrational bonus props for pulling those guys off so seamlessly.

The only reason I didn't kill him the first time was because he didn't try to kill me... well other than everything else in the mall he tried to kill me with... I was waiting for him to attack after his little speech and he never did so I never did. The second time you meet him in his apartment there's no choice - and he's pretty tough to bring down.

Yeah the bit about Sander was tough to know without finding out about it the first time. I got 1000/1000 (before the DLC) in 2 playthroughs. I suppose it is possible to do it on one.
If you're using lists, be careful: One of the diaries is listed in an incorrect area, like its in the markets or something when its listed under Arcadia. My second playthrough I just made sure I had all the diaries in the location I was in before I accessed the bulkhead door to a new place.
Also be aware that there are 3 areas you cannot return to, so be sure to ge teh diaries there: Welcome to Rapture, Central Control, and Smugglers Hideout.
To the person that asked about BD's and LS's, on teh start screen across the middle of the bottom there are pictures of each LS for the area you're currently in, If they are represented with a BD over their shoulder and behind them, you have not dealt with them yet, if its just a LS face then you've already taken care of it. Go to different areas (via bathysphere stations) to see what LS's you have not dealt with if you're concerned about the achievement.

thanks for the Cohan infoThe first one, I think we're talking about the same place, there should be a room with a bar. I forget what it's called, but there's a statue of a guy on a table in there. Behind the bar, towards the opening where you enter, there's a switch to open up that grating so you can access the area. Be careful down there, though. Be quick with your trigger finger on the crossbow.
As for the second, the door is barred going into that specific balcony, right? You can still access other balconies, but you can do some platform hopping and get across to it, skirting on the edges of the balconies. Alternatively, you can use your Telekinesis.

yeah - that final achievement is a joke. Talk about trial and error - you'd have to save and reload about a billion times which really isn't indicitive of any skill - just insanity and nothing better to do with your time, IMO.

These are precisely my sentiments about beating COD4 on Veteran. Some amorphous combination of luck and skill. (Mostly requires time/determination/luck IMO).
Now, believe it or not, I'm playing Endless Ocean. QUite the change of pace from Bioshock eh??? I can't put the game down, I always want to find one more fish, one more new area to explore. It's really addicting, though I doubt I'll log close to the 90 hrs i put into two playthroughs of Mass Effect.
Now that I took a break, I really don't see myself going for a third playthrough.

While CoD on Vet is completely trial and error, IMO you develop skill...at least I did. In order to get past those tough parts you had to string together head shots and make use of cover. But you right, it is trial and error.

Eh. I was mesmerized by Bioshock immediately and couldn't put it down. Fabulous powers to use, a gorgeous environment, and a solid plot (although i think people kinda got overexcited about the story). I got bored with Darkness after 2 hours. Darkness seemed very generic with cookie-cutter mob characters, bland scenery and a sort of uninteresting demonic aspect. Apparently your demon powers get cooler as the game progresses, but I didn't give it that much time.

CoD4 was nuts on veteran...pity so many achievements are tied to it. The last stretch going through the bunker with the timer is just nuts. The game won't give you a checkpoint if you're not going quickly enough, so if you die you're fucked. Granted, it may save you frustration from running out of time later, but even so it's ridiculously annoying...and then soon after that you get Mile High Club, which is a whole additional barrel of fun.
I didn't find Gears too bad on insane other than the fucking mine carts and RAAM...although RAAM was more because I did it solo than because of any intrinsic difficulty.
As far as taking Sander out in his apartment, I may have just gotten a lucky shot, but when he ran out of his secret room I hit him with 4 quick shottie blasts, then drilled him in the head with a crossbow shot and he was finished almost before he even got out of the doorway. Seemed MUCH easier than when I took him on earlier in the game the first time around.

Yeah the brass balls achievement never really seemed that difficult to me because you can easily accomplish it if you know you're going for it from the beginning.
Once proficient, the game is not that difficult to begin with (esp. if you research and pick and choose and map out your BD fights) and if you save often, like really often, vita chambers aren't even necessary.

I was in unbridled love with BioShock at the outset, but that feeling subsided bit by bit until the end. By the last half, I felt like I was fighting the same fights, using the same tactics, and completing the same fetch quests. Even the level design seemed a little sloppy. Why would they load me up with two non-combat Plasmids right before the final fight.
Overall, BioShock was an incredible experience, but I can't stand behind the perfect scores that some reviewers gave it.

I'm one of those people who bought a 360 late and missed the Bioshock bandwagon. Now that that is has been announced for the PS3 (with additional content and improved visuals), would anyone recommend waiting for that release, or would I be just as well off buying the 360 version now?

Nobody really knows what "improved visuals" means, other than they have gone back and spent a little extra time on stuff they didn't have time for.
I doubt the experience will be any different on either system, except you have achievements on 360.

I have a question about the Big Daddys. The first one that you ever get to fight killed me. I wound up in a Vital Chamber and now can't find him and the Little Sister again. Where are they? I looked everywhere but can't seem to find them.

They roam around. If you come across him again and the LIttle Sister isn't with him, just hang out for a few. He'll walk up to a hole in the wall and bang on it and she'll come out. On a positive note. All of the damage that you did to him should still be there when you meet up with him again.

Yeah I found him again. He was in a different location though. It's cool that the damage you did to him previously still holds over.
When can I start upgrading weapons?

You will come across "Power to the People" stations, there you can upgrade your weapons.

Oh ok. I am really enjoying the game so far. It has really drawn me in. Bioshock is probably one of the coolest games I have played in a long while.

I am going to pick Bioshock up tonight, seeing as it's $20 at my local Blockbuster. Been looking forward to it for a while.

Also if you run up against one without a little sister and you kill him, you'll have to kill him again when she's with him.
The first time I fought one, I got within one shot of killing him when he got me. I got excited, so I busted out of the vita-chamber and shot and killed him as soon as I saw him. I then realized he didn't have a girl with him, so I had to kill another one.
Then I accidentally did it again :)

Yeah, ignore them if they don't have little sisters with them. Or if there are still little sisters on the area follow it around until it knocks on the wall and calls one to him.
If there's not little sister with them they won't bother you at all unless you shoot them first.

Just started this game on Saturday and it is pretty amazing. Quick question, I received a thing (forgot what it was called), but it said whenever I hack a machine, I would receive some health. How do i equip this thing or is it already equipped?
Corvin
07-16-2008, 11:10 AM
That is a tonic. Early on you equip them as you get them but can only hold so many so later you have to find a tonic machine to change out which ones are equipped. Chances are that you equipped it when you got it.
It was a screen that had an old school elevator like dial at the bottom of the screen with 4-5 bubbles around it. You equip them there. Does that screen sound familiar? It's been about nine months since I played so I'm going on a fuzzy memory. :)

Is it the gene bank where you can equip them? If that's the case then they should be the spot on the maps with the DNA strands.
Corvin

IIRC it's not the gene banks but a different terminal. I think there are three kinds of stations, the gene/plasmids, tonics, & weapon upgrades.

Gatherer's Garden - You just buy plasmids and Tonics here with ADAM
Gene Bank - Swap out tonics configurations
Power to the People - Upgrade one weapon once per machine

Started Sunday, finished Tuesday. But since I already knew what to do from beating it already on Hard it took shorter than the first time (first time I did everything, 1000/1000). I couldn't tell you an hour estimate though because I was just enjoying the experience this time. Playing it again really made me appreciate how great of a game it is.

Just beat Dr. Steimen. Was not hard, had a flying securtiy thing that kept shooting at him and he was distracted with that and not my wrench hitting him from behind. Encountered my first big daddy and I am having a hard time beating it without multiple trips to the via...something champer.

Vita chamber. Yes the first one is a bitch but they never get anymore difficult while you get more powerful. So in a word they get a lot easier further in the game.
You will have a great sense of accomplishment after taking him down though.

Ive had this game since launch on the 360 and JUST today finished it. I played it halfway through a while back but got tired of the game and came back to it now many months later, finished it in one sitting from the halfway point.
Overall, i wish it was shorter and less fetch quests. That said, game is excellent and the graphics aged well even with todays standards. I also appreciated how you finish the game and get the majority of the achievements. Games like blue dragon which i think i have 30 points for and i played it for over 40 hours till its completion, thats ridiculous.
I saved every girl in the game so i watched all the endings including the ps3 ending as well, and what is different in the PS3 ending? They both ended the same! I liked the saving all girls ending better of the 2 tho.
Bioshock 2 should be pretty good as long as they cut down on the fetch quests and keep the production values as high as they were in the first. B+ game imo.

 The game is only a year old. Has there been anything besides MGS4 come out that has really moved the bar, graphically, since Fall '07?

In addition to MGS4, Uncharted/gears 2 blows away bioshock graphically. Oh and Dead Space as well. Amazing graphics.

I wouldn't say any of those* "blow away" Bioshock, at least to the extend to the point of referring to the graphics aging well. Not much in the gaming landscape has changed.
*haven't played Dead Space though

Gears of War 2 was much better than Bioshock graphically. Whether it blows away Bioshock's graphics is subjective though.

Is 2K still doing the replacement program for the Big Daddy Figures? I found a gamestop that has 3 of the LE's leftover with broken Big Daddys, figure it might be worth it to buy them and have them replace the figures.

IIRC, they set a time limit on it, but you can check the Bioshock site (http://www.2kgames.com/cultofrapture/home.html) for info. They also have a forum that you could ask in.
