When do you get the camera in this game? Right now I'm trying to kill the Big Daddy so I can save the freaking little sister. Armour piercing bullets are a nice touch, is there anyway you can avoid his drill attack? Its madness.
Also, do you need to kill the BD before you can get to the Little Sister?

You get the camera in the next area you visit after the Med Pavillion, In Neptune's Bounty.
Yeah you need to kill the BD that is protecting the LS, if you didn't they'd be pretty useless, duh.

Got this email from 2K today:
BioShock Figurine Replacement Program Update
The BioShock figurine replacement program is nearing completion after some delays due to production of the replacement figurines. We appreciate your patience and in order to speed things up, 2K Games is eliminating the step in which you are required to return the broken figurine (we've figured you've waited long enough!).
In the next two weeks, we will begin shipping out a single package containing both the replacement figurine and the art book to customers who enrolled in the program by November 12th. There will be no return box or need to return the broken figurine to our attention.
Thanks for your support and interest in BioShock, and for your patience during the replacement figurine program.

Played all day, now I'm in Arcadia. Saved 6 of 6 Little Sisters so far. Looking good.
How many are in the game?

I thought I read somewhere that there were 21 total but I'm not sure. I'm also in Arcadia - right at the beginning. I think I need to spend some ADAM - I'm so stingy. I've got like 300+ of it but I don't know what to buy...

Save it and wait till you get enough for some slots. They are the first things you should buy IMHO, it helps out alot being able to have more tonics/plasmids.

I bought one extra slot so far - I've got 3 plasmids equipped (electrocute, telekinesis and incinerate). I've only got the standard two slots for the other tonics though.
I really like the achievements too - I feel like I have a realistic shot at getting most of them for once.

Summary of gaming today:
1st day played of Bioshock ever!
Time: 7HRS, 52MIN (yay Liveeye!)
Location: Sander Cohen's place (Atrium).
Little Sisters: 8 of 8 saved (so far)
I LOVE this game. This breaks for the longest gaming session of 1 game I've ever had (possibly beaten by Blue Dragon, but I don't think so).
Can't wait to play more (probably finish it this weekend).

Damn thats a big gaming session. Yeah this game is def GOTY material.
There are 21 little sisters, you need to rescue 18 to get the tonic collector acheivement.
You can get all of the ach in one playthrough if you started on hard, otherwise you can get 49/50 (or now 50/51).
That new ach really pisses me off b/c I had 1000/1000. Its the only game Ive ever done this for.
I really need to finish this game, I'm on the last part, but I have just been putting it off. And with Mass Effect getting here tommorrow I probably won't finish it till the end of the month or even next month.

I'm about 3/4 of the way through Arcadia now. The Houdini Splicers are a pain in the ass (and creepy). I'm getting the hang of things a little more since the last Big Daddy I killed only killed me once. I saved right in front of the final Little Sister on this level - I'm going to save her tonight. I also got another 200 ADAM as a gift and bought some stuff. The plasmid where the Big Daddy protects you is pretty good. Is there a wallet upgrade? I'm guessing there definitely is because I can only carry around $500 but the counter looks like it goes up to $9,999. It is a lot easier when you can buy EVE, First Aid Kits and ammo without worrying about going broke. Oh yeah, I also invented a few things... it's not done how I thought it was going to be. I thought I'd actually get to combine random shit and make something completely unique.
Is there a way to tell how much research I've done and what I'm missing as well as which things I haven't invented yet (now that's counterintuitive) because I want to be sure I'm headed in the right direction for the achievements... I can't wait to play again tonight...

- No wallet upgrade. It's not really a problem, you get to a point in the game where you always have a full wallet if you search enough.
- Research: Every time you take a pic of something, it tells you how much you've done on that thing. Tip: You can take pics of little sisters, security cameras, bots, etc... and different big daddy types count as different research items. DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE the power of research! : )

QFT as to the above post. It is easy to go through the game and really just completely forget about the camera.
Jav, here is a couple of tips if you're concerned about achievments:
1. Beware beware beware, of areas that you cannot return to. THere are THREE: (1) Welcome to rapture, (2) Rapture Control Room, (3) The smuggler's hideout. Be absolutely sure to get every diary in these areas (no tonics i dont think) becasue you cannot return here.
2. Photograph photograph photograph. Not only does this affect the individual photog. achs, but it also affects the Tonic Collector acheivment. Don't forget bots, turrets, everykind of splicer, both types of BDs, and LS. I seriously mean this when I say snap away, zap em then take 4-5 pics of every enemy RAPID FIRE, before you know it you'll be halfway through the game and have all the research done. THere are some tonics that help you get you a higher % of research completed with each pic, EQUIP THESE ASAP!!! TIP: (minor)Equiping natural camoflauge really helps when security cameras go off, just hold still and snap away. Obviously keep in mind the bonuses for getting mulitple subjects and action shots.
3. Invent Invent Invent (even if you can't carry everything). There is an ach. for inventing 100 items so when you can, do it, even if you have to leave weapons laying there (you can come back and pick them up too). The inventing is kind of weak, i too though you were going to be able to actually INVENT, instead of combine. They should call it a U-Combine instead of a U-Invent machine.
4. Be wary of spending your adam at the gatherers garden. Here is the order (if you're going for max achs, and if you want to make the game easeir for yourself) of upgrading:
First: Max out all your slots! You'll need to get this done for the ach.
Second: Buy every tonic! You'll need to get this done for the ach.
Third: Patience pays, if you can hold off on gettign that newer, more powerful plasmid, you'll save a lot of Adam for getting it later. They go down in price.
Fourth: Be careful of the eve and health upgrades, they zap your adam and don't go towards any achs. I think at the end of my 1000/1000 run through I upgraded health and eve capacity twice each.
5. Last but not least: BE THOROUGH, not only does the magesty and beauty of this game demand it, but it will make you richer, healthier, and save you some backtracking. Also when you're about to leave a level, smash the health machines for medkits.
Ign has a great walkthrough by nimerjim and FAQ's to help you find straggling diaries tonic etc.

That it is. I hardly took pics at all during my playthrough. But still found the game fairly easy (on normal anyway) and don't give rat's ass about achievements, so no skin off my nose I guess.

No it isn't required but it does help with some things. Photog equipment (turrets, cameras, etc) enough and they become hackable with one button. No more mini-game to play through.

The nitro splicers and big daddy were the last research acheivements I got as well. I mean it when I say just snap 4-5 pictures of everything as soon as you get the camera to just get it overwith. Buy film if you have to but even snapping this much I dont remember having to buy much film, its only 12 bucks anyway so it's dirt cheap.
TO a beginner I would just say to remember that you really dont have to fight a big daddy until you want to, this is something I didnt catch on to until later in teh game b/c i woudl just start laying into them as soon as I saw the first few.
Follow my tips before, esp about being thorough, buying slots first. Combat is easy, zap and shoot then repeat. It gets easier as you improve and get more abilities. I thought the enemy AI was some of the best I've ever seen, I never before have seen enemies use healing stations. As to fighting BD's, use bots to help you, lure them into the line of fire of hacked turrets and RPG's or cameras. Get a posse with you and the BD focuses on the bots, not you.
Also don't just run around at full speed constantly or you may find yourself gettin mowed down by security bots alot b/c you get caught on camea. This is important as well: HACK EVERYTHING!
ELECTROSHOCK AND TELEKINESIS ARE YOUR FREINDS! Don't ever trade these plasmids out.
My advice to anyone going for 1000/1000 ach pts would be to rescue every LS, and be careful about the three areas i mentioned that you can't go back to. Other than that use nimerjim's FAQ's on IGN w/ his walkthrough to find stuff you missed before you leave each level. Withh about 118 diaries you WILL miss some. YOu have to check your inventory and count up how many diaries you have and cross check them with a list of each diary in an area. This can be kind of a pain as there are about 10-18 in each area. One of them in particular I remember was not even listed in teh correct area, this was a big pain for me at the time but I found that I had already gotten it, the diary entry just happend to be listed under the wrong area. Oh and this is important, when you get to fort frolic DONT KILL SANDER COHEN, only kill him once you get to his pad in olympia heights. IF you do you will ruin 2 achievments (Tonic Collector and A secret one about acessing is apt.

about fort frolic, i did exactly that on a whim, but i saved right before. i then went online to see if i screwed up anything by doing that and sure enough, i did. lost about an hour of play so it wasn't a big deal.
and when fighting big daddy's i find the electric bucks to work fantastic against them. you'll have to get them a dozen or so times, but if you keep a good enough decent from their charging, you wont get killed.
and another tip for beginners, if you're a fan of winter blast, i know i am, use them against cameras and turrets to slow down the liquid even more. they work good on enemies too, but it prevents you from looting their corpse, which is why electroshock is the better alternatives for splicers.

Yeah, for the big daddies electric buck is great early on, later on grenades are great.
Best is Electric gel in the chemical launcher. If you have enough ammo, you can totally kill them with them not even getting a chance to hit you (well, think you have to reload once so they have one chance to get you).

With a bit of devotion and without trying to find every little thing, I'd say so.
The plasmid that lets you "paint" enemies as targets for cameras and turrets is wonderful too. Nothing like leading them directly into an ambush.
Using Incinerate on the Daddies is always a good idea as well. It's bonus damage, and goes well with exploding buck for the shotty.
The tonic that gives off an electric shock whenever you're hit is a lifesaver.

just keep taking them till it tells you the research is complete...if the pictures registers then its high enough to fill the bar a little and if you have any of the tonics giving you more value for your pics i suggest you use them
The A Rating is obviously higher then the others but its not necessary

Took me around 20 hours, but I tried to explore a lot and saved all 21 little sisters.
So probably could be done in 16-17 hours if you go straight through and much longer than mine if you do the photos, try to find all diaries etc.

It really depends on how much you want to explore. In my opinion I think you should take your time with it, and rent it again a second week if you dont finish it. This isn't a game you would want to rush and finish ASAP.

Later on I came to love setting up a couple of trip wires with the crossbow, then dropping about 3 proximity mines on the floor. I don't think they ever made it through it and if they did it was only 1 shot from the electric buck to bring 'em down.

You do know about the smoke machine right? Just before you get into the area with the beehive, go to the smoke thing and press A. You hear a ticking noise and it gets faster and faster, when it stops the bees come out. Just keep turning it on and you'll be fine.
And if you knew about it, yes, that part is obnoxious.

Yeah, it's a splicer factory in there... I got to Fort Frolic or whatever it's called and my 360 started overheating (again) so I had to quit.
After an hour or so the thing just gets too hot and the sound starts to cut in and out - also the light on my HD-DVD drive turns red and my camera ceases to function too. I can't even watch a movie all the way through. When I turn everything off and leave it for an hour I can play again for another hour... it's so annoying and I'm on my 3rd 360 and it's almost Christmas so I don't want to be without it. God what a piece of shit system.

Amazing game, the first since RE4 to give me this kind of a rush/fulfillment by the time i got down with it. I'm not that good at fps, so it took me a while to get decent, but by 6 hours in I was tearing through everything. My game of the year, and totally justified my 360 purchase of a month ago.

I too have 1000/1100 achs. The last ach for 100 is for beating the game on hard without ever using a vita chamber.
I beat the game on medium getting 585 of the achievement points. I haven't played this game in months since I just rented it when it came out and didn't get to borrow it from a friend until a couple days ago. The ending wasn't as awesome as I was hoping for, but he game as a whole was fantastic.
I'm replaying it now on easy, and it's a lot of fun with the decreased difficulty. I've never died, and all of my ammo and health kits/eve hypos are full after just killing Steinman. I'm going to try and get the other 415 points with this playthrough.
EDIT- As hohez said, except for that one achievement.

one of the achievements is beat the game on hard difficulty, so you wont be able to get them all on an easy play through.
Think we'll ever see any DLC for this game or are they saving it for the inevitable sequel?

Almost at the end of the game. About 16 hours, and 650 achievement points (with 200 G 100% guaranteed to be mine at the end of the game). Not sure if I'll get the diary one, but I'm going back through all the levels so hopefully I don't miss anything.
I saved all of the Little sisters!
And I'm seconds before the Little Sister escort mission
The only non-story achievements I don't have are: (invent 100 times-(can still get), 53 tonics-(really close), and the diaries-(how do you know how many you have/missed), and Hard Difficulty ones (playing on normal) ). Hopefully I'll end with 960 :D
Later on, I'll definitely play the game again.

I'm about 1/2 way through Fort Frolic right now. I stopped right at the part where I think I'm meeting up with Sander Cohen. I can see a dude playing piano through a glass door... I still have a lot of research to do - I'm taking pictures of everything but I'm not getting much out of them. I've also upgraded my machine gun and shotgun to maximum capacity (meaning I've found 4 Power to the People stations). I hope I haven't missed any so far - I've been looking EVERYWHERE though so I think I'm OK. This game is seriously awesome. I am loving every second...

I'm at about the same point, javery, getting thru the Sander Cohen bit. My 360 froze up yesterday when I tried saving. No red rings yet, but I'm getting the feeling that it's coming soon. Grrrrr.
And as for the weapon upgrade stations, I've been using this youtube vid for all the locations....I guess this could be considered a spoiler so I'll just post the link to it. I've gotten four of them as well, so I don't think you've missed any:

Don't worry about the research jav, if you've been following my advice and snapping 4 photos of every new enemy it won't be long before you'll have everything done. THe last two to get completed are the nitro splicer adn the BDs.
Regarding dairies, youc an hit start, then scroll over to a diary list that groups them by category. You basically need to get a FAQ to find out how many you're supposed to get in each area, count the ones you have, then by process of elimination find which ones your missing and go diary hunting using an faq or something. If you're against using faq's to help you get 1000/1000 ach pts, well then have fun roaming around aimlessly scouring every single corner.
EDIT: I feel that I should repeat this because it was so G-ddamn ubeleivably fucking frustrating when it happened to me. If you're going to attempt to get every tonic and diary (1) Dont harvest more than one LS, and (2) Make sure you get the diaries from the three areas you cannot return to, which are (a) Welcome to Rapture, (2) Control room and (3) SMuggler's hideout.
As to the Avid Inventor Ach, just keep inventing inventing inventing, you'll get it eventually. Invent stuff even if you don't need it, just leave it lying there on the floor if you're full and grab it later or don't ether way it makes teh ach easier.
hohez
11-27-2007, 02:11 PM
Inventor was easy for me. i basically invented one of each ammo and then the 3 tonics you can invent and held onto everything after that. at end game the 2 invention tonics, one makes everything cost 1 less and one doubles the results, made it very easy to hit 100. the double results counts as 2 each, and i only had to do 45 or so combines before the final boss and i got it.
I was so paranoid about using my adam and not being able to get all of the tonics, I ended the game with about 950 left over adam. I went almost exclusively wrench through the entire game.
Javery
11-27-2007, 02:30 PM
I'm low on ADAM right now (55) and I haven't bought much. I've been saving the Little Sisters as I go and I've saved them all up to Fort Frolic (haven't seen any in there yet).
pittpizza
11-27-2007, 02:58 PM
Some tips on spending ADAM:
You need to conserve SOME ADAM to get the Tonic Collector Acheivement, but so long as you have enough to purchase all the tonics avail at the gatherer's gardens (GG) then you will be fine. Buy all the tonics from GG's as soon as you can even if you don't use em, you'll need to get em anyway if your going for the ach.
Also keep in mind that things go down in price. For instance if you hold off on upgrading your plasmids, you may even be able to skip a level or get them cheaper at the next GG you come across. WHen you get to the last level (you'll know it) just be conscious of having enough adam left to buy the last tonics.
At the end of the game I think I bought everything except a plasmid or two (I saved up and bought some later for about half the adam) and I upgraded health and eve twice.

Just beat it myself on a rental. Got about 800 points if I remember right. Missed a couple of audio diaries, some research, and an upgrade station. Was more focused on finishing the game than 100%ing it. Awesome game, I'd put it on par with the Half-Life single-player games. Really easy final boss though.
My only gripe, which I feel is more of an overall game design theory problem, is the illusion of choice. I mean, the game handled it pretty well with the story, but for a game that was promoted as all about moral choice I never felt I had a hard choice to make. Everythng was linear as usual. But, I understand it's tough to properly design a game that actually allows meaningful choice, so.... *shrug*

Man the game was great, but like everyone else I thought the last boss was a joke, I used one medikit, and that was because I thought he might do some crazy move that would take half my health. Still a great game, its up there with mass effect and orange box for my game of the year.

I think it really depends on how you look at it: at first I thought the same thing, but then I realized that it really fit with the theme of the game, considering your character himself is under the illusion of choice, and, once you're freed from that, there's really only one course of action.
That aside, the biggest gripe I had was the final boss. He felt like a joke compared to the first Big Daddy battle.

You don't have to kill any solo Big Daddies. Once you've harvested the Little Sisters in a level, they're nothing more than scenery.
Well, scenery that'll murder you eight ways from yesterday if you accidentally graze them with a bullet.

They can be valuable allies if you hypnotize one and take it into a room full of splicers...
I played some more last night - Fort Frolic is a long (and damn cool) level. I've taken 2 of the 4 requested pics to complete the "masterpiece" and I've saved all three little sisters on this level. Also, for the first time in the game, I took down 2 Big Daddies without dying! I just went into the strip club and found an audio diary under the bed... I'm not keeping track of the ones I've found but maybe I should. I also finished researching two more things (Houdini and Spider Splicers) and found another Power to the People vending machine - this one was pretty well hidden in a back room in a bar that you had to push a button to access. I really didn't want to put it down last night but it was midnight and I wake up at 5:45... so tired...

More progress last night! I finished Fort Frolic (completed Cohen's masterpiece) and made it to just outside Andrew Ryan's office on the next level. I'm having so much fun. The splicers are getting easier and easier to kill but I can't seem to find anymore Nitro Splicers to take some pictures of. Also, I have a ton of tonics but I seem to be doing OK with the ones I have equipped so I'm not experimenting as much as I should. Also, I use the machine gun way too much. I barely touch the crossbow or the chemical thrower. I've got about 155 ADAM left but I'm holding off on buying stuff because people have said prices go down later in the game and I want to be sure I have enough to buy everything for the achievements. Tonight I'm going to do an inventory of all the audio diaries I've found so far to make sure I'm on the right track...

Well, I was kinda relieved to have an easy final boss, after the number of Big Daddies I dealt with (and died at). The whole ending felt rushed honestly, between the escort mission and the boss. But oh well.
And yea, my complaint about choice is really more accurate on non-Bioshock games. Fable comes to mind. At least Bioshock's ending is affected by multiple actions, even if they are essentially the same action.

They shouldn't have had an end boss. End bosses are cliched and boring, and they could have spent the time wasted on the end boss improving the final escort mission, which showed real potential.
Then again, escort missions usually suck, and there was something amazingly awesome about [endgame spoiler]watching all the little sisters jump out and save your life by attacking the final boss (won't call him by his name: no need to put that spoiler in here).

To answer the above question, about one third of the game is left after Fort Frolic. It may seem like more judging by the number of areas, but the last couple areas are much smaller.
Glad to see you're progressing Jav, don't forget to be sure to get all the diaries from the areas you can't return to.
Itdefex, you absolutely should finish the game. Lots of people bitch about the final boss fight and the endings but I liked em both (even though I did think it was pretty easy). I'm still in Fort Frolic, but am also a little worried about getting all the diaries. I've been really good about checking out every corner and corridor (and crate) in all the rooms/areas thus far. But I have a question - when can I no longer use the bathysphere to visit the other areas? Can I still go back after the "final boss or mission" is complete? Or is Bioshock one of those games that completely closes the world off after a full playthrough?

More progress last night. I'm right outside Andrew Ryan's office. I went inside a crawl space and found two audio diaries but I missed one that was supposed to be in the giant room right before the crawlspace so I quit playing because I don't think I can go back and get it. Plus, I didn't get a chance to fully explore the room. The fetch quest in this level was actually really fun for a change because it fit in with the story and didn't take too long to complete. I think the finish line is in sight even though I don't want it to end. I'm also not sure how many tonics I have or how many I'm supposed to have at this point. I don't think I've been finding that many of them....
pittpizza

Fear not tonic seekers! You can go back to all of the areas in the game except for (1) Welcome to Rapture, (2) Rapture Control Room, and (3) Smuggler's Hideout. (I may have 2&3 switched in order). There are only 2 or 3 diaries each in these areas and they are IIRC placed in fairly obvious places.
Be sure to save before the final boss fight, or even before you escort the little sister and you will have no problem returning to areas other than those three via the bathysphere.
Jav, do what I did when its over your first playthrough: Replay it on hard. I hardly ever do this with videogames and I can say with all sincerety Bioshock was the only one I ever began replaying immediately after I beat it the first time. Sweet!! Here's the press release for the lazy:
Publisher 2K Games sends word that a few BioShock patches will be released next week, in addition to a free downloadable content pack for the hit game.
2K community manager Elizabeth Tobey tells Shacknews that the DLC will at least include extra plasmids for players to mess around with, a way to disable Vita-Chambers for hardcore play, and bug fixes.
The patches will also address the game's field-of-vision perspective, following an intense bout of controversy (http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/48621) over the way BioShock handles its widescreen display.
A title update to the Xbox 360 version will be released alongside the DLC, while the PC patch will come bundled with the content.

Sounds pretty sweet, especially the fact that the DLC will be free. I wonder how the new plasmids will be added to a player like myself who is currently midway through the game. Will they be available at all Gatherer's Gardens from the point when the DLC is installed? And will these plasmids affect the achievements that I have yet to get (i.e. all plasmids)? Hmmmm.

Anyway to answer your earlier question triforcer, you still have to buy the tier 2 tonics to get the Tonic Collector achievement. Keep in mind that some of the tonics will compound each other, meaning that if you have electric flesh equipped with static shock 2&3, pretty much anybody that ever touches you is dead meat, well-done.

Ya, the "would you kindly" thing knocked me out of my chair, after that I was like wow this story is awesome. I know the Atlis thing was going to happen, but I never saw that coming.i knew something with atlas was going on too, i did notice atlas saying that a lot, but i thought that was just his irish way of speaking.

I really didnt notice it until it was pointed out to me, then in recollection I remembered that it was said alot.
Regarding gettin your health back, feel free to go ahead and spend some of that adam on two health upgrades. Eventually the sapping stops. Just keep pressing forward. If you have more than 200 adam left over at any given time you're saving too much and should get to spending some of it on tonics plasmids upgrades in that order.

Well, I'm on the last level. I saved before starting it but it looks pretty big so I'm guessing I'll be playing it over 2 or 3 nights. I actually have a work function tonight so I won't be leaving NYC until at least 10 p.m. which likely means I won't play at all tonight. I did manage to snag two more achievements - upgrade 5 weapons (I found my 10th Power to the People machine) and Avid Inventor (I finally hit 100 things invented).
I also haven't taken the time to do an audio diary inventory although I'm 100% positive I got the "one time only" ones. Maybe I'll print out a checklist right now...
Also, I have 42 out of 50 achievements yet I only have about 550 achievement points. That seems a little... off. I only expect to get 900 though since I'm not playing on Hard. I don't have 1,000 points on any game yet so maybe I'll replay to try and snag the last 100 achievement points (the extra one doesn't sound remotely fun to try and get).
I'm torn on which game to play next - Mass Effect or CoD4. I have them both in my possession...

Damn, deciding what to play next ME or COD4 is a dilemma I wish I had. Bioshock is the only game I've ever gotten 1000/1000, I'm by no means and achievement whore but with this game I figured I would try to do it once. When they added another after I sent it back I was pissed but ces la vie.
Anyway nice to have that inventor Ach out of the way, did you get Weapon's Specialist? I forget how many PtP machines there were but all are reaccessable and its a fairly easy ach.
Regarding diary hunting, if you're sure you got hte reaccessible ones, I found the best way was to (1) press start and check your diary log for the first area, (2) count them up, some areas are grouped so take this into acct (3) in an internet browser open up both a diary FAQ and a detailed walkthrough (I reccommend Nimerjim's on IGN) (4) compare and contrast to find which you have, which your missing. (5) Go to the area listed in broad diary FAQ, if you cant find it, use Ctrl +F and search the detailed walkthrough for a more detailed explan of its location. Keep in mind (this may save you like an hour) that one of the diaries (i forget where, sorry) the log misplaces in your log screen under a different location than where its actually located. I searched for like an hour only to eventually find out on GameFAQs that this one diary was misplaced in the log under a different area; basically I was searchign for about 45 minutes for a diary i already had.

Is there a recommended sequence on which power-up slots to fill up first? I've got one left to get in the plasmid slot, one left in the combat, and a few to get in the engineering and physical. Is it even possible to fill them up in one playthrough?

Definitely. I filled them all up a few hours of playtime ago (I think I was in Hephaestus when I maxed out all tracks). Not sure about a recommended order although I like the physical ones better than the engineering ones.

I think I fucked up with this one. For some reason, I was under the impression that I needed to purchase all plasmids and all tonics, along with all slots for both plasmids and tonics. It sounds like in reality, I was supposed to just buy up all the slots and then all the tonics, without worrying about buying every plasmid. Is that right?
I just made it to Olympus Heights yesterday, and I'm thinking that I probably won't be able to get one or both of those achievements. I haven't been focusing on buying every available plasmid, but I probably have more than I needed in the first place. Any idea if I'll have enough Adam from the remaining Little Sisters for those slots and tonics that I still need?

Yes it is possible (and probable if you're conscious of it) to get all slots unlocked; there is plenty of adam to do it. You should do this anyway especially with combat and physical tonics, engineering tonics are badass too b/c they can give you health and eve and make Hacking sooo much easier. At the beginning at least, and really throughout the game, you usually have more tonics than slots to put em in so I never understood why ppl wouldnt go for max all slots first since you have wasted/unused tonics in your inventory.
There is not an achievement for getting all of the plasmids in the game. Whoever said that is flat out wrong. You should get most of them by nature, but I never got some of the second level ones and I got 100% of the achs.

FYI:
Many of you have been asking me about the status of the BioShock PC Patch and Xbox 360 Title Update, and I have some good news for you.
Both the BioShock PC Patch and the 360 Title Update will be available next week. In addition to these fixes, we will be releasing downloadable content free on both Xbox Live and for the PC, with the DLC bundled into the PC Patch. A full list of bug fixes and everything included in the DLC will be put up on the Cult of Rapture when the downloads become available.

The non-vita chamber achievement seems ridiculous to me - and impossiblly frustrating. The first Big Daddy killed me like 5 times before I was able to bring it down. Even now that my character is fully powered up I find splicers very tough to deal with at the end of the game.... maybe I just suck.

I went full on wrench and about halfway through the game everything except big daddies became a cake walk. Even then i was able to sometimes kill big daddies with my wrench depending on my shock/ice going off at the right time.
but yeah, early on, before there is a lot of plasmid/tonic options, I'm not even going to attempt a no-death run.

You can just bypass all of the Big Daddies. Thats what I plan to do, and just save alot. The only time I ever died was when facing a Big Daddy.

This ach. is not really that hard, just save a lot and load up when you die. Set traps and strategically engage big daddies and you should have no problem at all. It is possible to take down the first few big daddies when you first encounter them, though it will prob take a few tries. If you dont feel like it, it is possible to wait until you get better weapons and return to them, or simply skip em altogether if you're on your second playthrough and already got the LS related achs.
dmaul1114
12-04-2007, 11:59 AM
Couldn't you just save a lot and keep reloading the save if you die. Still be a pain in the ass, but at least you could just save with full health right before a big daddy fight and keep reloading it until you beat it without dying or wasting to many first aid kits.
I won't bother as I don't care about achievements, but it seems doable for those who care and have patience.

Yeah It will be alot of cheap tactics on the big Daddies lots of run and guns. It sucks that you don't get the crossbow till later in the game. I could kill a big daddy in 15 seconds, with a electric crossbow. All you do is shoot it at the big daddy, it hurts him for the shot, then the wire shoots out. He moves the wire shocks him and 1/3 of his life goes down.

Its true you forego some plasmids/tonics/other ADAM expensive things, but just for a level or two until you get better weapons, you can then return to levels to harvest/rescue since there are no BD's in teh three areas you cannot reaccess.

More progress: I became a Big Daddy last night! It's kind of tough to see though... I hope the rest of the game isn't spent as one. Also, I know I didn't come close to finding everything in that level - it seems like the game pushed me along to become a Big Daddy and I didn't really explore at all - I only found like 2 audio diaries. I thought it was almost over but now it looks like I'm going to be escorting a Little Sister somewhere.
Oh yeah, I got the achievement for dealing with all the little sisters but NOT the one for saving them all. Should I be worried? I DEFINITELY saved them all but maybe that is reserved for the end of the game?

I hope so, it's awesome to see 2k pulling out all the stops when it comes to Bioshock. I mean, it got some incredible reviews but it also marked the beginning of the year-end videogame rush. It's like they're trying to keep it from being overshadowed by the other AAA games that have come out since then. In addition to even more free Bioshock stuff, my other Christmas wish is for Valve to really finish The Orange Box and release Half Life 1 as DLC. Hell, I'll even pay for it if I must.

I think I will wait until the remaining points/content becomes available before going through this game again. It was a great first time experience, but it took me about 18 hours the second time through and I felt it became like work. I am addicted to the achievements though, so I will probably return to rapture at a later date.

12-08-2007, 09:13 AM
OK, last night instead of finishing the game I went and got the remaining tonics (I was only missing EVE Link and Human Inferno - not bad). I also went and got the last audio diaries on the other levels so now I only have 5 to go on the Port Prometheus level to collect them all. Going from place to place made me really appreciate how well Rapture is designed - everything is extremely well marked and I really felt like I knew where I was going and if I didn't I could just look around for a sign instead of consulting the map.
I still need to find one or two more Power to the People stations and I think that's it. I'll be short the 40 points for playing on Hard (I'll get that if I play again) and the new 100 points for Brass Balls.... which I'm not even going to try to get. This is easily the most achievement points I've ever got on one game.

Oh, I forgot to mention - I have 600+ ADAM and I've saved every LS. I'm thinking of buying the Insect Swarm 3 Plasmid - it looks cool.
Does anyone know if I can start a second game and not lose the first game's save data? I think I'll be OK because of all the save slots but for something like Gears of War you can only have one campaign going at a time... I want to be sure because a friend is coming over and he wants to see the game from the beginning.

BIOSHOCK WINS GOTY and nobody posts about it for 3 days!? FOR SHAME!!!
Anyway, I called it and was right. GOod for you Bioshock, you deserve it!
PS! Way to go Jav! Like I said before, Bioshock was by far my highest ach pt game and getting 960 on your first playthrough is perfect. As to your ability to save previous games, the answer is YES! Feel free to start a new one and just be cognizant of the dates and save files so you're certain not to save over an old file. Congrats man, Now move on to COD4 and send me a freind reqest!

This was not just some website's GOTY award, do they even have them? This was "THE GOTY" award, awarded at the 5th Annual Video Game Awards hosted by Spike TV. Google it for news and links.

TIME magazine is even in on the fray, from Wombat's Blog (http://gamesblog.ugo.com/index.php/gamesblog/more/let_the_lists_begin/) Bioshock nabs #5.
There is no single, all encompassing GOTY like the Oscars or Grammy's for games. Rapture will garner some love from some sites and not others, simple as that.

I thought Bioshock was amazing, and im not one to like first person shooters. I would give it game of the year. Though i havent played COD4, but i heard the game is very short, and i dont know if you can give a game GOTY honors just for online play since not everyone plays online. Same thing with Halo 3. Bioshock was overrated. The demo was awesome but the game was a 8.5 at best. Mos Def not a perfect 10.
I finally have all 1000 achievement points. I can't be bothered to go through the game a third time for Brass Balls, I think I'd start getting sick of it if I did. Time to trade it in.

I started over on HARD. I'm at the beginning of the Medical Pavilion and I can already tell it's going to be way tougher to beat. Splicers don't take nearly as much damage. I guess I could try playing it a little differently though since I don't really need to collect the audio diaries or anything else.
Also, I'm already having a much greater appreciation for the story and really how well everything was thought out and designed. Did anyone notice the two glowing red eyes of the Little Sister before going into the bathrooms on the first level? If you listen carefully you can hear her scamper away - it's creepy and cool and I didn't notice it at all on my first play through or even the 4 or 5 times I played the demo...

I use the Vending Expert (or whatever it is) to lower the prices of vending machines, but I was a bit disappointed by Sonic Boom...not worth a slot, in my opinion. Also, it could just be me, but I think the bodies actually twitch MORE now; and if a Splicer dies from electrocution, they tend to stay lit up like a Christmas tree. I didn't remember seeing that during my first playthrough.

I stopped playing it for a while and just picked it back up again a few days ago, so I don't know if it's the patch that's caused this or if this is an old problem:
Sometimes when I get a diary and play it, the previous one will play directly after it. A few times, the subtitles when I trigger the Alarm Bots would stay on screen as well. And I can't seem to notice the difference with the 16:9 aspect fix.

The two dairy messages playing at once, that may be user error. This happened to me a few times until I noticed that it was because I pressed and held A twice, so both of the last diaries played.
I think, IIRC, occasionally two would play but this may be the game trying to piece the story together for you chronologically. At least I thought so, so I just ended up listening to the diary entry again. The story was so good IMO anyway that I didnt mind. The voice acting was superb.

To get teh research tonics, just remember to take pics of everything as soon as you get the camera. Equip the physical tonic that makes you invisible, set off alarms, stay still (go invisible) until there is only a few secs left and take photos of the bots. Also zap em then photograph them.

Just wanted to chime in and say I beat the game myself. Only took three nights worth of playing, and probably would have been less If I went at it all day for one day.
Regardless, I can see why this game won so many GOTY nominations. Everything is so fresh and you really get immersed into the game and It's hard to put it down. The graphics are amazing, the gameplay is amazing and honestly multiplayer probably would have hurt the ratings and we would have another "The Darkness" multi player which would have sucked.
I can't wait for the sequel and I hope they take their sweet time with it, and then maybe we'll get the best of both worlds.

I managed to play and beat it on a 3 year old rig chugging out about 10-20 fps on low detail. I do plan on re-installing the game once I get my new system and play it on full resoultion.
Although I spoiled myself long ago on the ending battle/end scene, it wasn't that hard. Argh!!!
Protecting the little bitches while they stab some dead splicers while other splicers try to kill her is a real pain in the ass. I've tried setting up a protecting perminater around her with trap bolt wires, proxy mines, a hacked security system, and getting the splicers to fight each other when raged still doesn't prevent me from loosing one of them!!
argh!you try using insect swarm? i found that it works great when dealing with groups. it doesn't kill them, but distracts them long enough for the security bots to damage or for you to get back at them with a weapon.

Still waiting. I vaguely remember seeing a story saying that they are still sending some out. I put in my order as soon as the form was up, so they're clearly not going in order that replacement forms were received.

From 2k (http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/showpost.php?p=255071&postcount=158):
UPDATE!
while i can't give you a date on when the last Big Daddy will ship, I can tell you this: they are shipping, but each one is being individually inspected and packed to ensure they arrive to you in one piece. they are also being packed very, very securely this time, so each Big Daddy is getting a lot of love and attention.
i also quadruple confirmed that many have been sent out already.
and (http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/showpost.php?p=254895&postcount=157):
we don't have an email system in place to notify you when the figure ships. and i'm sorry if people are confused, but don't be alarmed if you don't have your figurine yet. they began shipping within 2 weeks after i emailed the confirmation (in fact i believe just at the end of those 2 weeks) and the process is still continuing. that was only the beginning of the process -- not the end. i'll let you know when they all have shipped.

Thanks for that. Have they said what carrier they are using?

No shame at all in admitting Fort Frolic scared you, it scared the crap out of me and i had to play most of the game at night while I was the only one awake.
As to to broken big daddies, I feel for all of the people who bought the CE and got busted ones, they're pretty cool looking though.

Hey guys,
I just rented bioshock and I am on my first play through. I am at the part where I have to go into the submarine and save some people at the fish place. (lol I really don't know what I'm talking about). I got a message saying I have not harvested/rescued all the little sisters but I have looked around and can't find the little sister/big daddy anywhere. Anyone know what I should do. Also, are Rosie's Big Daddys or a different creature, they look similar.

Big daddies, which come in two forms: rosies and bouncers, walk along pre-determined paths. If you follow one long enough, it will go to a vent (wierd metallic structures with a round hole inthe top) The BD will rap (not like Skee-lo rap, rap like in Edgar Allen Poe's "The Raven") on teh vent and a LS will come crawliing out, havest some ADAM, then get sleepy or perhaps a little orny, and eventually return to the vent. Once you get all the LS's BD's will still spawn, its just nothing will come out of the vents.
Just follow a BD for a while, you'll find any LS's that are still there to be found.
TIP: On the pause screen it will reflect how many LS's are in each area, when they have a BD helmet above their shoulder, you havent dealt with them yet (one way or the other). Usually harvested LS will appear a different color than Rescued ones.
BTW, if you're concerned about the moral implications (achievments) about what you decide to do with LS's YOU GET ONE FREEBIE!

Well I'm saving all the little sisters. I don't understand what you mean. I have killed two Rosies in the same room and never seen a LS. Should I walk around and go back to the room, kill another Rosie and hope I find an LS?

Just keep an eye on the Big Daddies that don't have little sisters. They'll eventually go tap on a vent, and a little sister will come out. The little sisters randomly "spawn through an area that way."
That or just run around the area in till you eventually find them all.
If you don't see a little sister with a big daddy, just leave the big daddy alone. No point wasting ammo etc. to kill it when it doesn't have a little sister with it. They won't attack you when they're alone unless you shoot them first.

Yea, I messed around a bit and waited to kill the Big Daddy, it knocked and the girl came out. Saved her and finished the level. Where in the pause menu does it say how many LS you have left to find.

It's just right on the bottom. Will have icons for however many they are, that differ by whether you've saved them or not.

Dude just do exactly what I said: follow a BD around, he will tap on a vent and (if there are any left) a LS will come out, Wait until she is all the way out until you attack.
BD's are just randomly strolling around looking for LS's to guard by tapping on vents.
